1. PSION 5 CONFIGURATION
If Psion Message Suite is not installed on your device, please download it from www.psion.com and follow the
installation instructions given there. Message Suite is an integrated set of applications which provides email, fax and
web-browsing capabilities for the Psion Computers Series 5 handheld computer. This guide is for Message Suite
version 1.52. After successful installation of Psion Message Suite you can proceed with the Nokia 6250 specific steps
listed below:
1.1 General Rules About Infrared in the Nokia 6250
When you are making a connection (call) first activate the infrared reception in the Nokia 6250 by pressing Menu and
clicking the up button once and then clicking "Select"; then you can start the dialing procedure in the Psion. The
infrared connection is released when the call is ended.
1.2 Psion 5 Modem Configuration
1. Select ControlPanel
2. Select Modems
3. Select New
4. Type Name: Nokia 6250
5. Speed: 57600 (if you encounter problems in establishing connection between your Psion 5 and Nokia phone
please try lower speed)
6. Connect via: Infrared
7. Fax class: Auto
8. Goto to Initialisation leaflet and set Init.(reset)string:AT&F&K4
9. Go to Advanced leaflet and set Flowcontrol:Software(XON/XOFF)
10. In Advanced leaflet check that the Carrierdetect (DCD) is not checked
11. Click OK.
12. Current modem: Nokia 6250 – click OK
1.3 Psion 5 Dial-up Connection Configuration
1. Select ControlPanel
2. Select Internet
3. Select New
4. Select Based Upon: Standardsettings.–Press OK
5. The "New Internet Service" window should appear on the Psion screen.
6. Edit Service
6.1. Type Name (internet service provider)
6.2. Connection type: Dial-Up
6.3. Type PhoneNumber
7. Select Done
8. Select OK from "Internet Service Settings".
Now you should be ready to start using the Web browser application. If you have already performed the configuration
and you would like to edit the connection configuration select Edit instead of New in point number three in the list
above.
1.3.1 Making a Dial-up Connection
1. From Extras select Web. If the web browser will not start and Psion tells you that something is wrong in the
configuration, follow the instructions given to you on the screen.

2. Lower down on the Web window you will see where you should write the URL you want to visit. After you have
written the URL press Enter on the keyboard. A pop-up window Connect to Internet should appear on the screen.
3. Check that the connection settings are correct. The modem is the one that uses the Nokia 6250 and check that
the phone number is also correct.
4. Before pressing OK check that the Ir-link is active in your Nokia 6250. If the link is not active, activate it from the
Nokia 6250. If the link is active press OK in the Psion.
Psion should now be looking up the host address you have chosen. When you want to quit browsing choose File from
the menu bar and from there Disconnectfrom the Network. After that you can close the Web browser (file– close).
1.4 Psion 5 Comms (terminal) Connection Configuration
When you are using only a terminal you will not need to download Message Suite.
1. Press system
2. Open menu–tools –remotelink…
3. Select off and pressOK
4. Press Extras
5. Select Comms
6. Open menu–tools –communicationsettings
7. Select: Use comms port: infrared
8. Select OK.
Now you should see "Online" in the right upper corner.
9. Activate the Ir-link from your Nokia 6250.
10. Type AT and press "Enter". Now you should have an active infrared connection and you can give AT commands.
1.5 Message Suite Configuration
1. Select Extras
2. Select Email
3. Set your email settings: Menu – Tools - Settings - Email…
4. Set your Fax settings: Menu – Tools – Settings - Fax…
Now you can send and receive email and fax messages.
Create new email or fax
When you have finished your message select "Done (put in outbox)".
1. Open local outbox
2. Select send
3. Select Sendfaxes or Send email

2. Send FAX
1. You will see the "connect" dialogue box. Check that the Fax number, Location and Modem (Nokia 6250) are correct.
2. Activate Infrared in the Nokia 6250 phone - This will activate infrared reception
Click OK in the Psion 5 dialogue box.
Now Message Suite will send the fax
3. Send Email
1. You will see the "connect to Internet" dialogue box. Check that the Internet service, Number to dial and Modem are
correct.
2. Activate Infrared in the Nokia 6250 phone - This will activate infrared reception.
3. Click OK in the Psion 5
4. Now Message Suite connects to the Internet.
