Before you can start exploring your new phone, you’ll need to set
it up.
Insert your Vodafone SIM card as shown. Make sure the gold•
contacts and the cut-off corner are positioned correctly.
Replace the battery and cover as shown, and charge it if•
necessary. See the User Guide for full details on charging.
You can also insert a MicroSD memory card in the side slot as•
shown (follow steps 1-2-3).
Press and hold the key to turn it on (or off).•

What the keys do
The navigation key. Press the edges to move around menus and icons.
Pressing the centre ( ) selects the centre option (usually Open) shown at
the bottom of the screen.

aroundtheedgeofthekeytomovethroughsomemedialesandotherlists.
The Call key makes and answers calls. In the Home screen, it opens Dialled
numbers (press tu for other calls).
The End key ends calls. Press it to return to the Home screen.
The left and right soft keys select the options on the bottom left or right of
the screen.
The Menu key. This opens the main menu.
The Clear key. Deletes text, numbers and other items.
The GPS key opens the satellite navigation program.

Highlight any of the toolbar icons and press to open it. Or just
press the key in the Home screen to open the Shortcuts menu.
You can then press the navigation key tuto move to the other
sections, or use pq to select an option from the menu – these
options change at different times.
Shortcuts
The easiest way to get to your most-used folders and applications.
To change the options, click on the Shortcuts name.
Messages
To quickly check your inbox or to send a message. If there are any
unread messages, the icon in the toolbar will change to .
Missed calls
Any missed calls will automatically show as in the toolbar. You
can then select it to see the call details and return the call.
Mobile Internet
For quick and easy access to
Vodafone live!, and other useful
internet applications.
Music
For easy access to your music
player and the music store.
Proles
Use this to turn your phone to silent mode, and to change your
otherprolesettings,suchasringtonesandmessagesalerts.If
silent mode is selected, the toolbar icon will change.

Symbols and numbers
Press the• 1key for commonly-used symbols. For more symbols,
press *.
Press the• 0key for a space.
Press and hold a number key to enter that number.•
Press• Options for a further text option menu.
Switching text entry modes
Pressing the• #key scrolls through the predictive text
[ ] and multitap [ ] text entry modes, as well as the
different upper and lower case options, and number mode [123].
Predictive text
If you’re happy with a word or letter combination, press the•
navigation key uto OK it.
To see the other word or letter options, press the• *key.
Entering text
Different phones sometimes use different ways
of entering text, but it doesn’t take long to get
used to it.

Key lock
Pressing the left soft key , then *turns on the key lock. To
unlock it, press Unlock then *.
Or just slide the phone closed to lock the keys, and open it again to
unlock.
Menu key
Pressing the menu key at any time opens the main menu.
Hereyoucanndallyourapplicationsandfolders.Youcanusethe
Options menu to move, rename or create folders.
More than one application can be open at the same time. To switch
between open applications, press and hold the key. To close an
application, choose Options > Exit.
Silent mode
You can switch Silent mode on and off by pressing and holding the
#key.
Other differences
Here are some more differences you may nd
between this phone and your last one.
3G (also known as UMTS)
The Vodafone 3G network is a more modern, faster mobile network.
Aswellaslettingyoumakevideocalls,youshouldalsondthat
downloadsaresignicantlyquicker,videosandmusiccanbe
streamed straight to your phone, and browsing in Vodafone live!
and the mobile internet should be much snappier.
Tondoutifyou’reina3Garea,lookforthe• 3G symbol in the top
left corner of the screen.
Your phone is also able to use the even faster HSDPA data•
connection, for faster browser and downloading – the 3G symbol
will change to 3G+ when it’s available.
You’ll still be able to use the existing 2.5G network at all other•
times.

Choose a contact or enter a number
In the Home screen, choose• Shortcuts > Contacts to
open your contacts list, and choose a number to call.
Or press the key. This opens your call history, so you can•
choose a recent number.
Or enter a number using the keypad.•
Make a voice call
Press the key to make a voice call.•
Make a video call
Press• Options > Make video call to make a video call (the
person receiving the call must be using a 3G mobile, and be in
a 3G area). If the 3G network isn’t available, you can choose to
make a voice call instead.
During a video call you’ll automatically be on speakerphone.•
Adjust a video call
Press Options for settings and other options, such as swapping
screens, and turning the camera on and off.
Answer a call
Press the key (or slide the phone open).•
You’ll see an on-screen alert if there’s an incoming video call.•
Making voice and video calls
Even though you’re miles apart, now you can
talk face to face.

Sometimes, a picture can say more than a thousand words. With
your phone’s 3.2 megapixel camera, now it’s easy to capture that
moment. And it’s just as easy to share it.
Turn the camera on
Turn the phone sideways, then press and hold the camera•
key . To take a video press the right of the navigation key
uor press Options > Video mode.
Press the volume/zoom keys to zoom in and out.•
The• Options menu lets you change the Settings for image
quality and video length, or choose sequence (multi-shot)
mode,panorama,ashsettingsandself-timer.
To quickly change the settings , press• Options > Show Toolbar.
Pressing• 1activates photo night mode, or press 4for multi-
shot mode.
Using the camera
Take a photo or video
Press or to take a picture or start recording (press• Stop
to stop recording). Photos and videos are saved automatically in
> Gallery > Images or Video clips.
Send the photo or video clip
Now press• Options: choose Play to see your video clip. Select
Delete to delete what you’ve taken and try again. Otherwise you
can choose Send, then select Via multimedia.
You can also add it to a picture or video message later (see•
page 10).

Create your message
Press• qto highlight the Text
box, and write your message
using the keypad.
Press• > Insert content,
then choose a photo, sound or
videole.You’llnowseeitas
part of your message. You can
add more than one, as long as
it doesn’t go over your size limit. Note: if you add a video clip then
you may not be able to add anything else.
To add new objects, press• Options > Insert content. To delete
something, press Options > Remove.
Send your message
Press• Options > Send.
Note:
If you’re sending an MMS to someone whose mobile isn’t MMS•
compatible, they’ll be sent a web address that they can view your
message on.
To send to more than one person, choose• Options > Add
recipients.

Sending messages and emails

Creating a multimedia message (MMS) is just like writing a text
message – but you can add photos, videos or sounds as well. So now
you can show as well as tell...
Multimedia messaging (MMS)
In the Homescreen, choose Messaging from the toolbar.
Then choose Create message.
You can choose to send an MMS to a mobile number or an email
address.
In the• To: box, enter the mobile number you want to send to. To
enter an email address, press and hold the #key to switch to
text entry mode.
Or press• to open your Contacts list and choose a mobile
number or email address from your contacts. Press again to
enter the number or address.

To view your messages, go to• Messaging > Inbox.
My Mail
My Mail is a new service from Vodafone that delivers your email
straight to the inbox on your phone. It works with Hotmail, Yahoo,
AOL, Googlemail and almost every other email provider.
To set up the service, press in the Home screen Toolbar,•
choose Vodafone live!, then click on Web & email > Manage
My Mail. Enter your email account details (you may need to
contact your email service provider).
Once the service is set up, you can send and read your emails in•
Messaging > My Mail.
Vodafone Email Plus
With Vodafone Email Plus you can access your personal email (ie.
Yahoo!, GoogleMail. or any POP3 or IMAP4 email service) and your
corporate email (using Microsoft® Exchange® or Lotus® Notes®).
If you haven’t yet signed up, please contact Vodafone customer
services on +44 (0) 8700 746464.
To set up your phone to receive email, please follow the steps
below. Make sure you’re in an area with good mobile coverage,
and are signed up for the service.
Go to the main menu with the key, select the• Applications
Folder. Click on the icon Vodafone Email , select Install,
and follow the screens.
First you need to agree to download the sync manager software•
on your phone. Once the software is downloaded you’ll be
asked to accept the licence agreement, and then it will install
automatically.
Thenyouneedtoagreetocongureamailbox.•
Follow the on screen instructions, and once successful select•
Done.
Whenyouhavenishedtherewillbeanewemailinboxfolderinthe
Messaging menu. Warning! When you delete emails in this inbox
you will also delete them at your email account!

If you have already set up an account please log in using your
mobile phone number and the password which will have been sent

If the page you’re viewing is larger than can be shown on the•
screen, the Page overview feature shows an overlay of the
whole page (press 8to enable or disable this feature).
Press• Options for the Browser Option menu. From here you can
bookmark a page, enter a new URL or even send the URL of the
page you are on as part of a text message.
To exit Vodafone live!, press• Options > Exit.
Shortcuts
Press 1to open your bookmarks.
Press 3to go back to the previous page.
Press 9to go to a different web page.
Press *#to zoom in and out.
My Internet
For more internet applications, go to in the toolbar.
So now you can use Google Maps for Mobile, bid and buy on eBay,
and use your browser to get the latest news, watch TV, search using
Google, check out your favourite blogs, and do much more...
Now when you go to Vodafone live! on your phone, you’ll get
access to the whole of the mobile internet!
You’vegot Google™whenyou needit. You’ve gotlivesport.And
you’ve got your email on tap. You can catch breaking news from the
back ofa cab.YoucanwatchLostonthe bus. Youcan evenbid on
eBaywhenyou’reout forlunch.
And you can do all of this on phone-friendly web pages that look as
good on your mobile as they do on your PC.
Connect to the mobile internet
In the Home screen Toolbar, press• > Vodafone live!, or
select Web in the main menu.
Browsing
Use the navigation keys to highlight the item you want to select,•
then press to open that page. Press Back to go back a page.

You can either download stuff while browsing Vodafone live!, or by
using your phone’s built-in links. Either way, the process is simple, as
any charges are billed to your phone.
Don’t worry, you’ll always see how much it is, and you’ll always be
askedtoconrmthatyouwanttogoahead.
Download from a built-in link
Each folder in the Gallery contains links to the appropriate
downloads section in Vodafone live!.
For example, to download a new ringtone:
Open• >Gallery > Sound clips.
Select• Download sounds, then choose a ringtone to download
fromthethousandsavailable.You’llusuallybeabletohearitrst.
Follow the onscreen instructions to download it. It will be saved•
on your phone in Gallery > Sound clips.
Downloading stuff
Make your phone all your own by
downloading new ringtones, games, music,
wallpapers and more.
Use your download
Find your download in• the Gallery.
To set a sound as your new ringtone, highlight it and press•
Options > Use tone > Set as ringing tone.
To set a picture as your new background wallpaper, highlight it•
and press Options > Use image > Set as wallpaper.

To keep your music playing in the background, press .•
Then select Music to see the track playing, and other
information.
World clock
Press > Ofce > Clock to open the Time application. Press u
[Alarm] for alarms (these will sound even if the phone is switched
off).
Press• Options > Settings to set time and daylight saving status.
Press• utwice in the Clock application to open the World view.
To change time zone, select Options > Add location.
Other features and services
Find out about a few other things you can do
with your phone that you might not discover
otherwise.
Music player
Your phone is also a portable music player. You can download music
from Vodafone live! or transfer it using a USB cable. The best way to
play your music is to connect your headphones to the top socket.
To download and own more music, choose from the•
Toolbar, and go to Download music.
Note:• to see your downloaded music, go to Music > Music
player.
To create a new playlist, go to• Music > Music Player > Music
> Playlists > Options > Create playlist. Give it a name, then add
the tracks you want.
To play your music, simply click on a playlist, and use the navigation
key to control the playback.
To exit the music player, press• Options > Exit.

Mobile TV
A great way to get video news and entertainment, TV shows and
sport.
When you’re in a 3G area, go to• > Mobile TV, then choose a TV
Pack to subscribe to.
Choose a channel – this will be streamed to you directly, so you•
don’t have to store it. See the Vodafone website for more details.
Other features and services
There are many other Vodafone services that you may be able to use with your phone. Some
services are not yet available in every country or on every phone. Please see the User Guide or
your local Vodafone website to nd out more.
