1. Introduction
Withthe NokiaWireless GPS Module, you candetermine yourcurrent position
anddirection easily. TheGPS moduleis a battery-operateddevice that uses
Bluetoothwireless technology to communicate positioninginformation to
compatiblemobile phones, PCs, PDAs, andother devices.
Read this user guide carefully beforeusing the GPS module.Check also http://

■Global Positioning System
TheGlobal Positioning System(GPS) is aworldwide satellite-basedradio
navigationsystem.
AGPS terminal can calculate itslocation to an accuracy of 25 meters. The
accuracy depends on the number of satellites, the signals of whichthe GPS
modulereceives. In optimal conditions, the accuracy may be withina few meters.
Theantennaofthe GPS moduleislocated under theNokialogo, andit shouldface
upwards.Somecarwindshieldsandwindowsmaycontainmetal,whichmayblock
orweaken the satellitesignals.
If you stand still, GPS cannot detect whichwayyou are facing, because it
determines your direction on the basis of your movement.

Note: The Global Positioning System
TheGlobal Positioning System (GPS) isoperated bythe United States
government,whichis solelyresponsiblefor accuracyandmaintenanceof
thesystem. The accuracy of locationdata canbe
affectedby adjustmentsto GPS satellites made bythe UnitedStates
governmentand issubjectto changewith theUnited States Department
of Defense civil GPS policy and theFederalRadionavigation Plan.
Accuracy can also be affected by poor satellite geometry.
Availability and quality ofGPS signals maybe affectedby buildings and
natural obstacles, as wellas weather conditions. The GPS receiver should
onlybe used outdoors to allowreception ofGPS signals.
Therefore, GPS should notbe usedfor precise locationmeasurement, and
you should never rely solely onlocationdatafromthe GPSreceiver. This
GPSreceiver does not support locationof the phoneby emergency
operators.

4. Battery information
YourNokia Wireless GPS Module ispowered by a rechargeable battery. The full
performanceof anewbatteryis achievedonly after two orthreecomplete charge
anddischarge cycles. The batterycan be charged and discharged hundreds of
times, but it will eventually wearout. Whenthe talkand standby times are
noticeably shorter than normal, buy anewbattery. Useonly Nokia approved
batteries, and recharge batteries only with Nokia approved chargers designated
forthis.
Unplugthe charger fromthe electrical plug and thedevice whennot inuse. Do
not leave the battery connectedto a charger. Overchargingmay shorten its
lifetime. If left unused, a fullycharged battery willlose its charge over time.
Temperatureextremes can affectthe ability of your battery to charge.
Usethe batteryonly forits intended purpose.Neveruseany charger or battery
that is damaged.
Do not short-circuit the battery.Accidental short-circuiting can occur when a
metallicobject, such as a coin,a clipor a pen, causes directconnection ofthe
positive (+) and negative (-) terminals of thebattery(these looklike metal strips
onthe battery). Thismight happen, forexample, whenyou carryaspare batteryin
your pocket or purse. Short-circuitingthe terminals may damage thebattery or
theconnecting object.
Leavingthe batteryin hot or cold places, such as in a closed car in summer or
winterconditions, willreduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery. Always try

17Copyright © 2004 Nokia. All rights reserved.
tokeepthebatterybetween 15°C and25°C(59°Fand77°F).Adevicewith ahotor
cold battery may not work temporarily, even whenthebattery isfully charged.
Batteryperformance is particularly limitedin temperatureswell below freezing.
Do not dispose of batteries in a fire! Disposeof batteries according to local
regulations. Please recycle when possible. Do not disposeas householdwaste.
