and are sufficient y qua ified to perform the work.
The NOVAP 3000 steam humidifiers have been designed and constructed in
accordance with the atest techno ogy and the accepted safety regu ations.
However, if misused, the humidifier can present a danger to both the user
and third parties.
Apart from these safety instructions, you shou d observe a nationa and
oca regu ations.
The NOVAP 3000 steam humidifiers are intended so e y for indirect (via a
steam-distribution pipe in a venti ation duct) or direct (with either a
separate or a humidifier-mounted fan) humidification. Used in any other
way, or in a way that goes above and beyond the one described above, is
contrary to its intended usage. The manufacturer/supp ier cannot be he d
responsib e for any damage resu ting therefrom. The user sha bear the risk.
Without NORDMANN’s written approva , no a terations may be made to

1.2 Steam nozzle
1.3 Fitting the humidifier
Positioning the humidifier
For sma er outputs of up to 4 kg/h, we offer a steam nozz e which can
be either fitted in air ducts, for instance, or used for direct room
humidification. The ru es for vaporisation ines ( ines needed to mix
the steam adequate y with air) must be observed here, too.
When the steam nozzle is employed, the length of the steam hose
should not exceed 1.5 metres.
All installation ork must be performed by trained personnel.
The customer himself is responsible for verifying their qualifications.
When fitting the humidifier, use on y the materia supp ied with the unit
and observe the various minimum distances that have been stipu ated.
To open the humidifier, turn the screw, using the correct screwdriver,
in an anti-c ockwise direction; the door to the water componentry or the
e ectrics then opens. To c ose, simp y push back into p ace (no screwing
down is necessary).
Ensure that there is sufficient room to perform servicing
and maintenance work, and that the unit is easi y accessib e.
To faci itate such work, mount the unit at eye eve .
We recommend that you fit the humidifier as near as
possib e to the steam-distribution pipes. The highest degree of
efficiency is attained when the humidifier is inked to the
steam-distribution pipe by the shortest possib e steam hose.
When insta ing the doub e units sizes 64 and 90 kg/h next to
each other, ensure that each drainage pipe is fed to a funne of
adequate size.

1.4 Fitting the steam-distribution pipe
Guidelines on fitting the steam-distribution pipes
Various fitting methods
All installation ork must be performed by trained personnel.
The customer himself is responsible for verifying their qualifications.
The visib e jet of steam issuing from the steam-distribution pipe
dissipates in the air on y after a certain distance. In order to prevent
condensation, a certain minimum distance to other parts of the
insta ation (such as venti ators, fi ters or pipe bends) must, therefore,
be maintained.
The steam-distribution pipes can be fitted either vertica y or horizonta y,
though you must ensure that the steam out ets are a ways vertica
to the air f ow. If fitted horizonta y, these apertures must be at the top.
An adhesive temp ate is supp ied with each steam-distribution pipe
to faci itate insta ation in, for instance, an air duct. NORDMANN’s
steam-distribution pipes are designed so that, if fitted straight, there
is automatica y a s ight dec ine of 3% which ensures that any condensate
f ows back again.
The ends (reverse side of mounting p ate) of the onger steam-distribution
pipes (types 35-900, 35-1200 and 35-1500) are equipped with an M6
fixing bo t.

1.6 Laying the steam hose
Installation material
11
The steam hose shou d be kept as short as possib e. It shou d not be
possib e to b ock or obstruct the steam supp y ines in any way.
Furthermore, they must be protected from outside interference (e.g.
deformities, kinking etc.).
After the hose has been aid, it is advisab e to re-check everything when
the hose is warm.
It is equa y important to avoid condensation pockets in the hose.
Any curves shou d have as arge a radius as possib e.
If a hose is used for the steam ine, it must be the origina one supp ied
by NORDMANN. If other hoses are uti ised, NORDMANN cannot be he d
responsib e for any damage that may occur.
A hose c amp shou d be used to ink the hose to the steam-distribution
pipe.
When aying the steam hose in pipes, cab e ducts etc., you must verify their
resistance to high temperature (min. 100 °C). A insu ation materia must
a so be checked for its resistance to high temperature.
If the steam ine insta ed is of copper, sma radii shou d be avoided
wherever possib e. Every bend causes an additiona resistance. A steam ine
of copper must have the same diameter as the hose.
If the steam ines are ong with a ot of bends and a re ative y high interna
duct pressure, water may be continuous y forced out of the steam cy inder,
which impairs performance.

1.7 Laying the condensate hose
It is advisable to lay the condensate hose as near to the vertical
as possible and to feed the condensate either directly into an open
funnel or belo the siphon.
If the steam-distribution pipe is fitted above the humidifier, the con-
densate can be fed back to the unit by p acing the end of the hose in the
fi ing cup. In this instance, a sma siphon shou d be formed with the
condensate hose.
If the condensate is drained off direct y, it is advisab e to feed back
the condensate hose separate y. The end of the condensate hose shou d
be in the open air. If the end of the hose is submerged in water, the
condensate is prevented from draining away.

NORDMANN humidifiers use ordinary tap water for the production of
pure steam. The e ectrica conductivity shou d be between 125 and 1250
microsiemens per cm.
The hardness of water is measured in accordance with the internationa
unit mi imo , ca cium and magnesium ions per itre (mmo / ), previous y
the degree of German hardness (DH):
Soft water: up to 1.3 mmo / ; up to 7° DH
Fair y hard water: 1.3 to 2.5 mmo / ; to 7-14° DH
Hard water: 2.5 to 3.8 mmo / ; 14 to 21° DH
Very hard water: over 3.8 mmo / ; over 21° DH
Other internationa units: 1° DH = 1.79° French hardness
1° DH = 1.25° Eng ish hardness
1° DH = 1.05° American hardness
1° DH = 10 mg/ CaO
1° DH = 17.9 mg/ CaCO3 (ppm)
NORDMANN’s e ectrode steam humidifiers a ow you to use water ranging
from soft to very hard, without the need for prior treatment. However,
for fair y hard water and above, we recommend the use of the SC system
(NORDMANN’s se f-c eaning system), since this great y reduces the
amount of maintenance required for the cy inder.
All installation ork must be performed by trained personnel.
The customer himself is responsible for verifying their qualifications.
P ease observe oca regu ations concerning the connection of app iances
to the pressure and drainage systems.
The humidifiers are designed to operate on ordinary tap water. If you
intend using treated or de-minera ised water, consu t your NORDMANN
representative beforehand.
Where the water pressure is between 1 and 10 bar (0.1 to 1 MPa), the unit
can be connected direct y to the water supp y. If it is over 10 bar (1 MPa),
connection must be via a pressure-reduction va ve (set to 4-6 bar,
= 0.4-0.6 MPa).
!
2. Water connections

3.1 Safety instructions
In any case, the water feed pipes that you have aid
must be f ushed thorough y before connecting them
to the humidifier. You shou d use copper piping on y.
Note that the drainage faci ity shou d provide the
possibi ity of performing c eaning and maintenance.
The drainage pipe shou d have a dec ine to the
drainage system of at east 5%.
A fine fi ter shou d be fitted at the water intake
to the humidifier; this prevents the rapid bui d-up of
impediments in the in et fi ter of the in et va ve.
All ork pertaining to the electrical installation must be carried out
by qualified personnel only. The customer is responsible for verifying
the qualifications of the technicians concerned.
Before performing any e ectrica work, a power to the humidifier must be
disconnected.
P ease observe oca regu ations concerning e ectrica insta ations.
The insta ation must be fitted with a device which disconnects the unit
(with a contact opening of at east 3 mm) on a phases from the mains
power supp y.
NORDMANN humidifiers are designed to be connected to the earth
ead and are categorised as be onging to Protection c ass 1 for e ectrica
equipment.
The connection detai s are provided in the wiring diagrams for each type
of unit. Each unit is supp ied with the appropriate wiring diagram.

4.1 Ho the humidifier orks
NORDMANN humidifiers use ordinary tap water to produce steam.
The water is converted direct y into steam in a steam cy inder by
e ectrode heating using e ectrica energy. In so doing, the water acts
as the e ectrica resistance. Vaporisation occurs at atmospheric pressure
(non-pressurised).
The e ectronic contro system, with its high y-integrated microcontro er,
regu ates the vaporisation process in accordance with a new princip e
deve oped by NORDMANN which a ows rapid output changes to be made.
The humidifier adapts itse f fu y automatica y to the qua ity of the water
used. Due to this abi ity to set the optimum water concentration in the
steam cy inder, the sma est of adjustments to the water eve can effect
a change in the steam output. Therefore, the unit reacts quick y and
accurate y to any setpoint changes. Because of its u timate degree of
efficiency, this new type of contro system ensures perfect drainage,
i.e. the process of water deconcentration in the cy inder.
The use of fuzzy ogic techno ogy improves the contro abi ity. The
microcontro er of the NOVAP 3000 series works with fuzzy- ogic
a gorithms. This regu ates the conductivity or minera concentration in
the steam cy inder and achieves idea operating conditions whi e,
at the same time, maximising the operationa re iabi ity. Furthermore,
the output f uctuations which occur during norma operation are kept
to a manageab e minimum by the automatic water-intake and drainage
functions.

4.2 The steam cylinder
A regu ar check of the steam cy inder ensures troub e-free operation.
If the humidifier indicates U1 (LED f ashing green), it can sti be run for a
few days before the steam cy inder needs to be rep aced. We recommend
that you keep a spare cy inder in stock for each unit.
NORDMANN’s steam cy inders are so economica that it is usua y cheaper
to rep ace the cy inder than to c ean it. To c ean the cy inder, it shou d first
be emptied by pressing the b ack button for manua drainage ocated on
the e ectronic print (see Fig. 34) and then removed. After the drainage
fi ter has been taken out, the cy inder can be we f ushed with tap water
(using no chemica substances).
The SC-System is a patented se f-c eaning system deve oped by
NORDMANN for its e ectrode steam humidifiers. Because the minera s are
kept in suspension, there is itt e accumu ation of deposits on the f oor of
the cy inder. The oose minera s are f ushed away during norma drainage
operations. The steam cy inder’s service ife is considerab y engthened and
the time spent on maintenance is reduced.
The serviceab e ife of a steam cy inder is dependent on both the qua ity of
the water supp y and the unit’s actua operating hours.

4.4 Putting the humidifier into operation
4.5 Automatic operation
4.6 Setting the output limitation
After the steam hose, water feed pipe, drainage pipes and e ectrica cab es
have a been correct y connected, the NOVAP 3000 humidifier can be
switched on using the b ack power switch. As soon as the humidistat or
humidity contro er demands humidification, the green Humidification LED
ights up, the contactor is activated and, soon after, water is fed into the
steam cy inder, whereupon fu y automatic operation commences.
Of course, the humidifier wi operate automatica y on y if (a) it was
insta ed by a specia ist and (b) the shut-off va ve in the water feed pipe is
open.
After the water in the steam cy inder has been heated up, the production
of steam begins.
During the start-up phase, or after a new rep acement cy inder has been
fitted, the maximum water eve , or Niveau max. can be attained. When
Niveau max. has been reached, the in et va ve c oses brief y; this is a
norma occurrence during the steam cy inder’s concentration phase. The
ength of this phase can differ; it asts unti the cy inder has reached
the nomina rating. When the Niveau max. is attained, it wi be indicated
by a red f ash in the green co our of the LED.
The NOVAP 3000 series’ specia e ectronic contro s unit with microcontro er
regu ates a operations automatica y, so that the user does not need to
take any action or make any settings during norma running.
The NOVAP 3000 series enab es an adaptation of the steam
output. The steam output can be set from 20% to 100%
capacity. For setting the output imitation, you must open the
e ectric compartment and turn the potentiometer on the
e ectronic print. Turning c ockwise increases the steam output
and turning antic ockwise reduces the steam output. A
humidifiers are set ex works to 100% output.
