RhinorSD3/XD3 Air Motor Sensors
Description
See Figure 1.
The RhinorSD3/XD3 sensors monitor pump strokes and runaway pump
conditions for 24 Vdc unloaders with air motors. The sensors include a pump
stroke/runaway sensor (1) and an optional stop position sensor (3) that connect to
a 4-pin Y cable for connection to the unloader. Refer the unloader electrical
schematic in the unloader manual for the correct connection location. The system
controller supplies the logic and control voltage to the sensor. The system
controller indicates a runaway fault condition when the sensor senses a pump
cycle rate greater than 10 strokes in a 20-sec period.

Installation
WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Follow
the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation.
See Figure 2.
1. Install the sensors by sliding the sensor clamps (1) over the tie rod (2) of the air
motor. Ensure the sensing area (7) is touching the air motor cylinder (9).
2. Secure the sensor clamp (1) on the pump stroke/runaway sensor (5) 5.25 in.
above the bottom air motor casting using the set screws and jam nuts (8). If
equipped, secure the sensor clamp (1) on the optional stop position sensor (3)
2.50 in. above the bottom air motor casting using the set screws and
jam nuts (8).
3. Use the cable ties to secure the cables on the sensors (3 and 5) to the air
motor tie rod (2).
4. Connect the the pump stroke/runaway sensor (5) and optional stop position
sensor (3) to the 4-pin Y cable.
NOTE: If optional stop position sensor is not equipped, connect the cable from
the pump stroke/runaway sensor directly to the hose module.

Repair
See Figure 3.
1. Unplug the stop position sensor (3) and/or the pump stroke/runaway sensor (5)
from the 4-pin Y cable (4).
2. Loosen the set screws and jam nuts (9) securing the stop position sensor
clamp (1) and/or the pump stroke/runaway sensor clamp (1) to the air motor tie
rod (2) and remove the applicable sensor(s).
3. Install the sensors by sliding the sensor clamps (1) over the tie rod (2) of the air
motor. Ensure the sensing area (8) is touching the air motor cylinder (7).
4. Secure the sensor clamp (1) on the pump stroke/runaway sensor (5) 5.25 in.
above the bottom air motor casting using the set screws and jam nuts (8). If
equipped, secure the sensor clamp (1) on the optional stop position sensor (3)
2.50 in. above the bottom air motor casting using the set screws and
jam nuts (8).
5. Use the cable ties to secure the cables on the sensor(s) (3 and/or 5) to the air
motor tie rod (2).
6. Connect the stop position sensor (3) and the pump stroke/runaway sensor (5)
to the 4-pin Y cable (4).
NOTE: If optional stop position sensor is not equipped, connect the cable from
the pump stroke/runaway sensor directly to the hose module.
