NOVAK HAVOC 1S - ADDENDUM 11-2009 Guide

Unlike the Havoc Sport ESC, the Havoc 1S Brushless/Brush ESC contains
specialized internal Novak Smart Boost™ circuitry. This innovative technology
allows drivers to power their vehicle’s electronics on a single 1S Li-Po battery
pack without installing additional external boosters or receiver packs.
Unlike the Havoc Sport ESC, the Havoc 1S includes an installed Racing Power
Trans-Cap Module – 2S Li-Po and 4-6 cell Ni-MH (#5679).
A cooling fan is not included with the Havoc 1S, nor is one necessary when the
ESC is operated properly.
This Havoc 1S addendum accompanies Novak’s Havoc Sport ESC Basic Set-Up
Guide. Please follow those instructions carefully for Havoc 1S ESC installation and
operation information. The below instructions should be considered along with the
Havoc Sport instructions.
To benefit from the technical features of the Havoc 1S Brushless/Brush ESC,
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE OPERATION
PRECAUTIONS
(replaces
battery information in “Precautions” section on page 1 of Havoc Sport instructions)
1-CELL LI-PO ONLY
ONLY use a 1-cell (1S) pack for the vehicle’s main battery & be sure
the Li-Po Cut-Off programming option is turned ON (refer to page 6).
Four-cell Ni-MH batteries are not compatible with the Havoc 1S.
GOOD QUALITY LI-PO BATTERIES SUGGESTED
Using a 1S Li-Po battery that cannot supply the amount of current required by
this system will result in possible battery pack, ESC and motor damage, and will
void the warranty. It is recommended to use a 25°C or higher battery rating.
SPECIFICATIONS
Input Voltage ....................... 1S Li-Po Only
On-Resistance (brushless) ....... 0.0007 ohms

NOVAK HAVOC 1S ADDENDUM
56-1731-1 11/2009
INCLUDED GLITCH BUSTER CAPACITOR
(in addition to “Optional Accessories” section on page 1 of Havoc Sport instructions)
The Havoc 1S includes a Novak Glitch Buster Capacitor (#5626) to
eliminate noise generated from the servos. It is highly recommended to
install the Glitch Buster when using a 2.4GHz radio system.
To install, simply plug the Glitch Buster directly into any open channel or
battery slot on the receiver. Remember to match the polarity of the Glitch
Buster plug and the other components plugged into the receiver.
Reversing
the polarity will cause damage to the electronics and void warranty.
GEARING
(in addition to “Proper Gear Selection” section on page 5 of Havoc Sport instructions)
Neither the Havoc 1S nor the brushless motor should be hotter than 160°F
after a 5 min. run. If either temperature is higher, the gearing should be
lowered until both the ESC and the motor are under 160°F. The cooler the
ESC runs, the better the performance of the system.
Refer to the gearing chart below for 1-cell Li-Po battery recommendations.
LI-PO CUT-OFF CIRCUITRY
(in addition to “Li-Po Cut-Off Circuitry” section on page 5 of Havoc Sport instructions)
The Havoc 1S is equipped with built-in Smart-Stop Li-Po Cut-Off Circuitry that
prevents the battery from going below the critical voltage level of 3.125V.
MOTOR COMPATIBILITY
(in addition to “Precautions” section on page 1 of Havoc Sport instructions)
The Havoc 1S ESC will operate with any brushless motor that has built-in
thermal protection that follows ROAR guidelines, down to 8.5-turns, such as
Novak’s Ballistic and SS Pro Brushless Motors.
PRODUCT WARRANTY: (in addition to the “Product Warranty” on page 1 of Havoc Sport instructions)
Warranty does not cover damage caused by the use of Ni-MH battery packs, using more than 1-cell
Li-Po batteries, or reversing the polarity of the Glitch Buster plug and other components plugged into
the receiver.
