Introduction
The Surface Control Unit (SCU) is a 19-inch aluminum case that can be mounted in standard 19-inch racks. It contains
camera and light control for up to 4 channels. This unit is best combined with other Novasub rack units.
Camera & Light Control
This system has integrated camera & light control. That means that the system provides power and control via cable to
light and camera. For this, the system has a Novasub video transmission converter integrated. This converter makes it
possible to transfer a video composite signal over a standard twisted pair cable. The latest converters are Auto tunable for
cable length up to 600 m. The converter can set up either as balanced (twisted pair) or unbalanced (Coax), this means it
can be used with both types. Balanced video signal using screened twisted pair has a few advantages:
•More reliable video transmission through less interference( electromechanical- or radio frequency interference)
•Screened twisted pair is a more robust cable than Coax
•Higher flexibility in applications, twisted-pair cabling is the standard in data transfer worldwide
•Easier to install/repair/handle
The lights are dimmed by changing the amperage with potential meters on the system; maximum clockwise rotation
corresponds with a maximum amperage as specified below. The cameras can be turned on with either a switch on the
system or in the DVR3 software (Only when another system with DVR3 is connected over NovaBus).

CAUTION: Disconnect power cable before opening the system
To change the video input signal from Balanced to Unbalanced, you must switch two switches on the PCB. Make sure you
disconnect all power before working in the system. Then you can open the system by opening the lid. Now you need to
find the switches on the PCB to change them:

Maintenance
The system is semi ruggedized. Although it is designed to withstand rough circumstances, you must treat it with the same
proper care and caution as any other electronic instrument.
Have your system serviced each 2 years by a Novasub Authorized Service Center. This service will include a general
operational check, replacement of the battery, and overall upgrade of firmware. The service requires special tools and
training.

WARNING
•It is not allowed to disassemble the system or to repair the product by unqualified personal or disassemble part, in that
case all warranties are void.
•Avoid large amount of water on the control and monitor panels.
•DO NOT use the system if you detect any moisture or water inside.
CAUTION
•Protect the unit from shock, extreme heat, direct sunlight, and chemical attack.
•The system cannot withstand the impact of heavy objects like air cylinders, nor chemicals like gasoline, cleaning
solvents, aerosol sprays, adhesive agents, paint, acetone, alcohol, etc. Chemical reactions with such agents will
damage the seals, case and finish.
•Do not use compressed air to blow water off the unit.
NOTE!
•The system is not fully waterproof, it can withstand some water drops on the control panel. Be sure to whip off any
water drops or moisture from the panels.
Disposal of the device
Please dispose of the device in an appropriate way, treating it as electronic waste. Do not throw it in the garbage. If
you wish, you may return the device to your nearest Novasub dealer
