those specified by the producer in the devices technical datasheet. Therefore, it is forbidden to
supply the devices from a power sources with unknown parameters, unstable or not meeting
producer’s requirements;
11. You cannot allow any metal objects get inside the recorder. It might cause serious damage. If a
metal object gets inside the device contact the authorised Novus service immediately.
12. The manufacturer does not bear responsibility for damage or loss of data stored on HDDs or other
media occurred during the usage of the product.

1. DVR OPERATING
1.1. Front panel description
Front panel allows user to navigate and run DVR functions. Front panel appearance varies by model.
Each DVR has LEDs indicating the operation of the device and the USB connector.
Some models have touch panel with buttons described below.
User can run the same functions using the IR remote control, or DVR menu.
Display selected channel in fullscreen mode.
Switching between active channels in fullscreen mode (next, previous).
Toggles between different display formats. The available formats are: 1, 4, 9, 16,
(depending on the model).
Open Record Search menu.
Turn on / off audio.
Switch on playback mode. Open Record Search menu.
Switch on / off manual recording.
Enter to main menu. Pressing this button cancel the selection and leaving the menu also.
Enter the PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) mode which allows to control connected PTZ cameras.
Button is also used for confirm the selection and start to editing fields.
Navigation control „left”, „right”. In live mode open the Popup menu. In playback mode
change the playback speed.
Navigation control „up” , „down”.
HDD LED. Flickering indicates that the recording or searching / playback is in progress.
Power LED. When the LED is light on, it means DVR is working.
USB 2.0 port for external HDDs, Flash memory or USB mouse connection.

1.2. Controlling via IR remote controller
The set includes an IR remote controller. Its range depends on battery status and may vary
between a few and few tens of meters. Controller is supplied by two AAA batteries. Buttons functions
are listed below.
0 - 9 Numeric buttons are used for channel selection. For channels from 10-
16 press the button combination. F.e. to open the channel 15 press „1” then „5”.
ALL Toggles between different display formats: 1, 4, 9, 16.
MENU Enters to main menu. Pressing this button cancel the selection and
leaving the menu also.
SUBMENU In live mode open the Popup menu.
Navigation control „left”, „right”. In live mode open the Popup menu.
Navigation control „up” , „down”.
SEL Button is used for confirm the selection and start to editing fields. In
live mode open the Popup menu.
Switch on playback mode. Open Record Search menu. In live mode
open the Popup menu.
Slow down playback speed.
Fast up playback speed.
Turn on manual record.
Playback pause, press again to play frame by frame.
Stop the playback. In live mode stop the manual recording.
1.3. Controlling via USB mouse
It is possible to control DVR via an USB mouse connected to the USB port. Double-clicking on any
camera in 2x2, 3x3 display mode switches the display to full-screen mode. Subsequent double-click
returns to previous display mode. Move cursor to the bottom of the screen displays popup menu. Press
left mouse button on the channel video to display channel menu. Certain positions allow to select them
via mouse scroll. Depending on DVR operating mode, pressing RMB display popup menu, or leave the
menu.
1.4. Main screen
To start the unit, connect the AC adapter, turn on the switch on the rear panel of the unit. After the
initialization process Main screen and Startup wizard will appear. You can follow the Wizard and
configure basic DVR settings. Detailed information about Wizard is in chapter 1.8 in user’s manual. If
you cancel or finish the Wizard, main screen will be available. It is shown on next page, with its
components.
Note! Default user is admin and password protection is disabled (leave password field empty).
Activating at least one user (except admin), result displaying login window.

Main screen displays division screen as default. Some of the video channels may be displayed,
depending on camera connection. There is displayed date and time set in DVR, names of the
channels.
DVR may displays icons on each video channels:
means normal record is on (depend on schedule or turned on manually).
means record cause by motion detection.
means record caused by alarm input activation.
means motion detecion without record.
means alarm input activation.
Move mouse cursor at the bottom of the screen to display Popup menu (chapter 1.5).
Press left mouse button on the video channel to display channel menu (chapter 1.6).
Move the cursor to left or right edge of the screen to display navigation button for switching to
previous /next camera (in full screen mode) or division (in division mode).
Positon of the channels can be changed. Press and hold left mouse button on the video channel.
Then move the cursor to preferred position, then drop it. Positions of the video channels will be
changed.

1.5. Popup menu
Recorder has a popup menu which provides easy access to the functions assigned to the front panel
buttons. To display the menu, use the or button located on the front panel of the DVR,
SUBMENU button IR remote control or move the mouse over the bottom edge of the screen. The
menu will appear as below.
The buttons have the following functions:
-Enters to main menu of the DVR
-Manually lock screen, unlocking will request login. (displayed when more than one user is
enabled)
-Displays 4 cameras division
-Displays 9 cameras division
-Displays 12 cameras division
-Displays 16 cameras division
-Displays other divisions: 1+4, 1+7, 1+9, 1+12, 2+8, 4+9, 1+1+12
-Switches the stream of IP cameras, HD means main stream, SD means substream.
-Preview policy - allow to select Realtime, balanced, Smooth. Mode define buffer used for
smoothness.
-Runs the full screen sequence display. Default time between channel switching is 5
seconds.
-Changing the audio volume or mute.
-Runs playback mode.
1.6. Channel menu
In live mode press left mouse button on the channel video to display channel menu as shown below
It allows to:
Manual Capture - taking photo from the video stream.
Record -turning on / off manual record of the channel.
Stream Type - switches the stream of IP camera, HD means main stream, SD means
substream.
Instant playback - open quick playback including last 5 minutes of the recording.
Zoom - turn on digital zoom.
Color settings - allows to adjust hue, brightness, contrast, saturation levels.Turns on/off
PTZ: open panel for controlling PTZ cameras.

1.7. PTZ control
Press the button on the channel menu, or PTZ button on the front panel of the DVR to open
PTZ control panel. Before start using it make sure that PTZ camera is connected ( please read
chapter 2.6 Connecting PTZ cameras of the short manual ), and DVR is configured (please read
chapter 2.3.2. Device / PTZ submenu)
1. Channel selection
2. Pan / Tilt navigation buttons: moves the vertical / horizontal camera module.
3. Run Pattern (no1) saved in camera.
4 Speed: Change the speed of the camera module movement.
5. Operate Zoom of the camera.
6. Operate Focus of the camera.
7. Operate Iris of the camera.
8. Expand the PTZ window.
9. Preset number, can be used to call or set camera preset. Enter the number and press Set to
define preset. Go to calls the preset.
10. Display camera menu (concerns UTC cameras, chapter 1.8.)
The presets saved via this panel contain create PTZ Cruise. Set the Time of each preset. Total
means number of saved presets. Press Save to remember the settings. PTZ Cruise can be started
from the popup menu.
1.8. UTC camera management
UTC technology (up the coax) allows to controlling the camera via coaxial cable. The feature
simplifies installation process and allows for remote managing at any time of the camera operation.
Caution! UTC feature is available with certain pieces of the NHDRs. The presence of the
function can be determined by the serial number. For verification, please visit the website
www.novuscctv.pl, and display the subpage of the particular model.

For using the UTC feature:
 Select COAX from DEVICE /PTZ / Protocol menu for UTC camera channel.
 Press right mouse button in video window, choose PTZ panel from the channel menu
 PTZ panel allows for handling UTC camera in similar way to UTC controller.

Caution! Execution of the commands depends on implementation UTC protocol in the camera.
1.9. NHDR operating by NV-KBD50 keyboard.
NHDR-xxxxAHD and NHDR-xxxxAHD-II recorders can be operated throught a system keyboard
NV-KBD50 (N-Control protocol).

Connection scheme for RS485 line
Keyboard settings are located in Main menu / Device / Keyboard.
Turning on the function (Keybord - Enable) results the RS485 port is used for keyboard operation.
Disable keyboard function (Keyboard- Disable) for controlling PTZ cameras. There is no
possibility of simultaneously operating the DVR by the keyboard and PTZ cameras by the DVR.
DVR address (Device ID) is located in the Main menu \ System \ Information (default value
is 1).

1.10. Start-up Wizard
To start the unit, connect the AC adapter, turn on the switch on the rear panel of the unit. After the
initialization process Main screen and Start-up Wizard will appear. It allows to configure the basic
parameters of the recorder. For switching between screens press Next or Previous button.

1.11. Language changing
This chapter gives the instruction how to change the language in the NHDR-AHD series DVR.
Please follow the instruction:
1. Run the device. When system starts up main screen will appear. Press 1 button to close the Wizard.
2. Move the cursor mouse to bottom of the screen, menu will appear. Press 2 button to open the Menu.
Or press the
button on the front panel of the DVR to open the Menu.
3. In Main menu press the 3button to switch the panel.

4. Press the 4button to open the language list. Select the preferred language from the list and press
the 5button to save and 6to exit from Main menu.
1.12. Connecting the IP cameras.
Novus NHDRs allow for connecting AHD and IP cameras in hybrid mode. Sub menu for IP
cameras is located in Main menu \ Parameter \ Display \ IP Channels. Menu is shown below.
Caution! Dvr may need updateing firmware, then hybrid mode will be available.
IP channels list may contain more than available channels. Number of available IP channels depend
on number of active AHD channels. In particular models user can disable some AHD channels to
expand availability of IP channels.

IP cameras can be added in many ways.
Press the button to add IP camera to particular channel. It will display search window.
Press the Search button to list found IP cameras. Select camera on the list to fill the fields on the right.
They allows for manual editing parameters: IP address, port, alias (name displayed in OSD), position
of the alias, protocol, username and password. Press Add to confirm setting.
- press this button to change IP setting in camera.
Caution! NHDR could find camera in other subnet. It can be added, but won’t work properly
until correct IP settings (IP address, subnet mask).
Add All - automatically filling the list by found IP cameras. Pressing the button display window for
typing login and password for all cameras.
User-defined Add - display advanced window. It allows for adding and editing many IP cameras
manually. On the top of the window there is a list of found IP cameras. On the right there is a list of
added IP cameras.
Many camera can be added simultaneously. Select them on the list and press Add selected. Selecting
the camera on the list, displays parameters for edition such as IP address, alias, position of the alias,
protocol, port, username and password. Press Add to confirm.
Protocol Manage - allows for creating own protocols on RTSP stream path.
Search - refresh list of the IP cameras.
Add - add IP camera based on typed parameters.
- inform about connection status. Green icon means proper connection. Gray icon means problem
with the connection. Check the cable connection, IP address, subnet mask, login, password then.
- edit connection parameters.
- delete selected camera.
- edit IP address in the camera.
Channel Delete - delete selected channel.

2. DVR MAIN MENU
NHDR-AHD series feature a multilingual OSD menu allowing to adjust the settings of the device.
Differences between models depends to number of inputs (video channels, audio, alarm inputs) or
technical parameters (recording speed, playback, substream parameters).
To enter to main menu :press the MENU/ESC button on the front panel, press Menu button on IR
controller or select MENU button in popup menu (shown below, described in chapter 1.5.).
Navigate around menu using IR controller, front panel, computer mouse.
Main menu consist of panels located in the top. Each of them display setting window with sideway
submenus. They are described in further chapters this manual.
To modify the parameter value in menu and make it effective, click Save after modification. Press
Cancel to exit the menu. If you want to abandon changes don’t press the Save, just press the
Cancel button. Default button restoring default settings.

2.1.1. Parameters / Display submenu
Consist 5 sections described below.
2.1.1.1. Analog channels
Availability this section depends on NHDR model. It allows for disable analog channels, to
expand availability of IP channels. NHDR allows to connect more IP channels then. Setting is made
after restart.
2.1.1.2. IP channels
Section allows to connect and manage IP cameras in hybrid mode. Menu is detailed described in
chapter 1.12 Connecting the IP cameras.
2.1.1.3. Live section - OSD
Live section contain OSD settings.

DVR MAIN MENU
Channel - select the channel from the drop-down list.
Channel Name - enter the channel name, which will be displayed at the OSD. Support up to 8
characters
Show Name - turn on/off displaying name.
Record Time - enable or disable displaying system time in recording.
Position - sets the position for the channel name on the display.
Color - click “Setup” to enter into the color setting menu. It allows for channel selection, and
changing parameters such as Hue, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation of the video.
Covert - enable or disable hiding the video channel on the display screen.
Show Time - enable or disable the system time display in live mode.
Copy - copy the parameters from selected channel to any other channel or all channels.
2.1.1.4. Output section
Output section allows to set:
Video Output - live output.
Sequence Mode - set sequence division.
SEQ Dwell Time - sequence time is set 5 seconds by default. User may set it as required, maximum
time is 5 minutes.
VGA/HDMI Resolution - monitor output resolution: 800×600, 1024×768, 1280×1024,
1440×900, 1280×720, 1920×1080
Transparency - adjust menu transparency in the range of 0-128.
Support overscan - change display format, in case of displaying problem.
2.1.1.5. Privacy Zone
Privacy Zone is for setting blacked out areas of the video in the selected channel. NHDR allows to set
4 privacy zones per channel.
