Use these instructions to familiarize yourself with the device before you use
it for the first time. It is absolutely essential that you observe the safety
guidelines on the proper and safe use of the device.
For safety reasons, children and young people under 16 years of age, as
well as people who cannot recognize potential hazards or who are not
familiar with these instructions, must not use this device!
Please keep these instructions in a safe place! In the event of a change of
ownership, please pass these instructions on to the new owner along with
the product.

2. Appropriate use of device
The Bitron model range is suitable for cleaning normal pond water between
40°F and 95°F. Irradiation of the pond water with short-wave UVC light
results in algae being flocculated. Optimum cleaning of ponds is achieved in
combination with OASE pond filters and OASE pumps.

3. Important Safety Instructions
WARNING – To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should be
observed, including the following:
1. READ AND FOLLOW ALL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS.
2. DANGER - To avoid possible electric shock, special care should be taken
since water is employed in the use of this equipment. For each of the
following situations, do not attempt repairs yourself; return the appliance
to an authorized service facility for service or discard the appliance.
– lf the appliance falls into the water, DON’T reach for it! First unplug it and
then retrieve it. lf electrical components of the appliance get wet, unplug
the appliance immediately.
– Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, or if it is
malfunctioning or if it is dropped or damaged in any manner.
3. Always unplug an appliance from an outlet when not in use, before
putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never yank cord to pull
plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
4. Do not use an appliance for other than intended use. The use of
attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer
may cause an unsafe condition.
5. Read and observe all the important notices on the appliance.

4. General Safety Instructions
–Caution: Dangerous ultraviolet radiation. The rays from the UVC
lamp are a danger to your eyes and skin! Never operate the lamp
of the Bitron outside the casing!
– For your own safety, contact an electrician if you have any questions
or problems!
–Never immerse the device in water!
–Always disconnect the plugs of all devices that are in the water and of
this device before you carry out any work on the device!
–Only operate the Bitron in a horizontal standing/hanging position with the
supports at the bottom.
–Please note: the Bitron is fitted with permanent magnets.Their magnetic
fields can:
–affect pacemakers. People with pacemakers should therefore avoid
contact with the Bitron.
–interfere with electrical and electronic components. Such equipment
should therefore be kept away from the Bitron.
– delete data on data carriers. These should therefore be kept away
from the Bitron.

Do’s
–Make sure that the unit is installed in accordance with all National and
Electrical Codes.
–Make sure to install the Bitron at least 6 feet from the edge of the pond.
–Make sure to keep the outlet system free of dirt and debris.
–Make sure to unplug the unit before servicing the unit.
–Make sure to keep the plugs and connections dry at all times.
–Make sure to return the unit to an authorized service dealer for any
repairs.
Don’ts
–Do not exceed the “Maximum Operating Pressure” of 7 psi.
–Do not carry or pull the unit by the power cord.
–Do not tamper with or operate unit without the proper grounding plug.
–Do not operate the unit if the power cord appears to be defective.
–Do not operate the lamp outside of the housing.
–Do not operate the unit without water flowing through the unit.
–Do not expose eyes or skin to the lamp’s rays.
–Do not attempt any repairs on this unit.
–Do not open the casing of the Bitron or its accessories unless expressly
directed to do so in the instructions
5. Electrical connection
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
This product must be grounded. If it should malfunction or breakdown,
grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce
the risk of electric shock. This product is equipped with an electrical cord
having an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug
must be plugged into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and
grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
DANGER – Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can
result in the risk of electrocution. Check with a qualified electrician or service
personnel if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded.
Do not modify the plug provided with the product – if it will not fit the outlet,
have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. Do not use any type of
adapter with the product.
6. Ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protection
To comply with the National Electric Code (NFPA 70) and to provide additional
protection from the risk of electrical shock, this unit should only be connected
to a receptacle that is protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).
WARNING – To reduce the risk of electrocution, keep all connections dry and
off the ground. Do not touch plug with wet hands.

7. Installation
– Be sure to read and observe the safety instructions prior to installation!
– Compare the electrical data of the supply grid with that of the type label.
This data must be consistent.
– Install the Bitron at least 6 feet from the edge of the pond!
– Position the Bitron so that it will not be emmersed in water.
– Put the Bitron where it will not be exposed to direct sunlight!
– Lay the hoses and the connecting lead in such a way that they do not
present an obstacle and cannot be damaged!
– You must read and follow the safety instructions before the installation!
– The Bitron devices 18C are suitable for a pump capacity of up to
3960 Gph (15000 l/h). The flow rate on the UVC bulb should not exceed
– 580 Gph (2200 l/h) for Bitron 18C
(see “8.1 Bypass setting”)
– The Bitron devices 36C/55C are suitable for a pump capacity of up to
7920 Gph (30000 l/h). The flow rate on the UVC bulb should not exceed
– 1190 Gph (4500 l/h) for Bitron 36C
– 1720 Gph (6500 l/h) for Bitron 55C
(see “8.1 Bypass setting”)
– Please select the filtration system according to Table 7 (page 47).
Selection criteria: Pond size and with/without fish stock).

7.2 Setting up the Bitron
7.2.1 Single-unit setup with hoses (Fig.3)
1. Anchor the Bitron horizontally on a suitable substrate with the feet down.
Use four countersunk head screws (not supplied with the product) to
anchor the Bitron.
2. Hand tighten the screws.
3. Connect the hoses (see “7.3 Hose connection”):
– Water intake D
– Water discharge A(UVC)
– Water discharge C(bypass)
Note: If the pump capacity is less than the maximum water flow of the
Bitron (see “7 Installation”) then the water discharge C(bypass) can be
closed with the sealing cap and flat gasket.
7.2.2 Connection to Biotec 5/10/30 and Biotec 5.1/10.1 (Fig. 1 and 4)
1. Adjust feet so that they are in the correct position (see table and Fig. 1).
To do this, press the grip surfaces of the feet together (see fig.) and slide
the movable portion into the correct position.
2. Place a large flat gasket on each of the water discharges (A, C).
3. Place the Bitron onto the Biotec as shown in illustration 4.
4. Insert an O-ring from inside on each of the water discharges (A, C).
5. Screw the inlet nozzles from inside on the water discharges (A, C). The
inlet nozzle opening must point downward after mounting.
6. Connect the hose to water intake D(see “7.3 Hose connection”).
7.2.3 Connection to Biotec 12/18/36 (Fig. 1 and 5 )
1. Adjust the feet so that they are in position 0 (see Fig. 1). To do this press
the grip surfaces of the feet together (see fig.) and slide the movable
portion into position 0.
2. Place a large flat gasket on each of the water discharges (A, C).
3. Place the Bitron onto the Biotec as shown in illustration 5.
4. Screw the Bitron on tightly with the anchoring nuts of the water distributor
and the O-rings.
5. Connect the hose to water intake D(see “7.3 Hose connection”).
7.3 Hose connection
– Only operate the Bitron with pressure hoses that are approved for at
least 0.5 bar, or for the maximum pump pressure.
– Select the largest possible hose diameter for the connection between
pump and Bitron.

–Note: We recommend warming up the hose with hot water, pushing it or
twisting it onto the hose adapter and securing with the appropriate hose
clamp. This improves the seal of the connection.
– To avoid pressure loss, saw off the stepped hose adapter at the
appropriate point for the respective hose.
Note: At the end of each step of the hose adapter there is groove for
shortening (see arrow in the fig.).
– Avoid unnecessary angles and curves that lead to additional pressure
loss.
7.3.1 Water intake D
To ensure proper cleaning rotor function, the flow nozzle must be inserted in
the intake duct if there is low water flow and/or a large height differential
between pond surface and the Bitron’s water discharge (see Table 8 and
Fig. 6).
Legend for Table 8 (page 47):

– Flow nozzle not required.
Due to the excessively low water flow, the cleaning rotor will no
longer function even with flow nozzle inserted.
1. To avoid pressure loss, saw off the stepped hose adapter at the
appropriate point for the respective hose.
– Bitron 18C/24C: Stepped hose adapter 1" to 1½”
– Bitron 36C/55C: Stepped hose adapter ¾” to 2"
2. Insert the flow nozzle in the water intake – if required according to Table 8.
The triangular protrusion in water intake D fits into a corresponding
aperture in the flow nozzle.
3. Push the threaded collar over the stepped hose adapter.
4. Push or twist the hose on and secure it with a suitable hose clamp.
5. Insert the flat gasket in the threaded collar. Firmly screw the stepped
hose adapter with threaded collar onto the water intake D of the UVC
device.
6. Layout the hose all the way to the pump in such a manner that it cannot
be stepped on and has no kinks.
7. Connect the hose to the pump according to the pump’s operating
instructions.
7.3.2 Water discharge A and C (only for single-unit setup)
1. To avoid pressure loss, saw off the stepped hose adapter at the
appropriate point for the respective hose.
2. Push the threaded collar over the stepped hose adapter.
3. Push or twist the hose on and secure it with a suitable hose clamp.
4. Insert the flat gasket in the threaded collar. Firmly screw the stepped
hose adapter with threaded collar onto the water discharge A and C of
the UVC device.

5. Layout the hose all the way to the pump in such a manner that it cannot
be stepped on and has no kinks.
Note: We recommend not channelling the water discharge directly into
the pond, rather that you channel the cleaned water indirectly for instance
via a small watercourse. In this case the water is additionally enriched
with oxygen.

8. Placing in service
– First turn on the pump and wait until the Bitron is filled with water.
– Check all connections for leaks. Resolve all leaks.
– Plug the Bitron’s power plug into the power outlet.
– Check the function of the UVC bulb and the cleaning rotor via the view
glass F. If there is blue, flashing, shimmering light alternating with dark,
then both functions are OK.
8.1 Bypass settings
The water flow rate can be adjusted with the bypass system.
Water flows into the device from water intake D. Some of the water can flow
out directly via water discharge C (bypass), while the rest is irradiated with
UVC light in the device and then flows out via water discharge A. The water
will only be optimally cleaned if the water flow is correctly adjusted.
– The correct setting corresponds to the capacity [l/h] of your pump.
Move the two rotary handles B to the same setting.
9. Maintenance
Ensure that the Bitron is never operated without water flow! Always keep the
Briton’s water discharge free! Regularly remove coarse pollutants in the Bitron’s
discharge/intake hoses. Check the UVC bulb function and cleaning rotor function
with the inspection glass.
You should check the wear on the foot of the cleaning rotor each time you clean
the quartz glass sleeve or change the UVC bulb (see “9.2 Replace cleaning
rotor”).
9.1 Replacing the UVC bulb
The UVC bulb must be replaced after app. 8000 operating hours to maintain
optimum UVC performance.
1. Unplug the Bitron’s power plug.
2. Switch off the pump and safeguard it from being turned on again
unintentionally.
3. Press the safety engaging lever, turn the Bitron device head in the direction
of the arrow until the stop, and pull it out carefully with the cleaning rotor.
4. Pull cleaning rotor off of the quartz glass.
5. Unscrew the clamp screw counter-clockwise and pull off the quartz
glass sleeve with the O-ring using a light turning movement. Attention!
Do not tilt the quartz glass sleeve when pulling it off! There is a hazard of
the quartz glass breaking. Note: The quartz glass sleeve can be quite
firmly seated due to lime scale and pollutant depsoits.

6. Pull out the UVC bulb and replace it. Note: The UVC bulb can be inserted
in the setting in any position. Note: The rubber band on the original UVC
bulb is for protection during transport and does not need to be replaced.
Note: Because of the built-in safety switch the UVC light only comes on
after the UVC is completely assembled.
Attention! Only use bulbs whose designation and wattage agree with
the specifications on the nameplate.
7. Remove the O-ring from the quartz glass, clean and check for damage.
8. Clean the quartz glass sleeve from the outside with a damp cloth. Check
the quartz glass sleeve for damage before putting it back.
9. Replace the O-ring on the quartz glass sleeve and insert the quartz glass
sleeve in the device head until the stop. The O-ring must be pressed into
the gap between the device head and the quartz glass. The O-ring is later
forced into the correct position by the clamp screw.
10. Screw the clamp screw on clockwise until the stop (see fig.). Note: If the
clamp screw is not screwed on until the stop, then the device head
cannot be mounted with the device.
11. Push cleaning rotor onto the quartz glass sleeve (see illustration).
12. Check the O-ring on the device head for damage and correct seat. The O-
ring must sit in front of the recess on the device head (see fig.).
13. Push the device head carefully into the housing. The cleaning rotor and
the quartz glass sleeve will be pushed into the rear receptacle inside the
housing in this process.
14. The interior marking on the device head must agree with the marking on
the housing (see fig.). Push the device head carefully into the housing
until the stop. Note: If the device head cannot be completely pushed on,
then check whether the clamp screw is screwed on until the stop.
15. Turn the device head in the opposite direction of the arrow using light
pressure until the stop (markings on the device head and housing point to
each other). The safety engaging lever must click to place.
16. First place the pump in service again, then plug the Bitron’s power plug
into the power outlet (see chapter “Placing in service”).
9.2 Replace cleaning rotor
To check the wear on the foot of the cleaning rotor there are several wear
marking ribs attached to the foot of the cleaning rotor (see Fig. 2).
If the running area is rubbed off up to the wear marking ribs, then the cleaning
rotor must be replaced.
1. Unplug the Bitron’s power plug.
2. Switch off the pump and safeguard it from being turned on again
unintentionally.
3. Press the safety engaging lever, turn the Bitron device head in the direction
of the arrow until the stop, and pull it out carefully with the cleaning rotor.
4. Pull cleaning rotor off of the quartz glass sleeve and replace it.
5. Check the O-ring on the device head for damage and correct seat. The O-
ring must sit in front of the recess on the device head (see fig.).
6. Push the device head carefully into the housing. The cleaning rotor and
the quartz glass sleeve will be pushed into the rear receptacle inside the
housing in this process.

10.Cleaning
10.1 Automatic cleaning
The cleaning rotor is continuously guided around the quartz glass sleeve by
the water flow. This directly prevents sludge and slime from settling.
The result is a quartz glass sleeve that is always clear, which ensures 100%
efficiency of the irradiation.
– The Bitron must be in permanent operation.
– Intermittent operation can produce tough dirt and lime scale deposits that
must be removed through manual cleaning.
– The rotary movement produces noise which increases as the water flow
increases. Remove the flow nozzle as needed.
10.2 Cleaning the quartz class sleeve
1. Unplug the Bitron’s power plug.
2. Switch off the pump and safeguard it from being turned on again
unintentionally.
3. Press the safety engaging lever, turn the Bitron device head in the direction
of the arrow until the stop, and pull it out carefully with the cleaning rotor.
4. Pull the cleaning rotor off of the quartz glass sleeve and clean it thoroughly.
Likewise, thoroughly clean the housing inside and outside.
5. Clean glass sleeve with a damp cloth.
6. Push cleaning rotor onto the quartz glass sleeve (see fig.).
7. Check the O-ring on the device head for damage and correct seat. The
O-ring must sit in front of the recess on the device head (see fig.).
8. Push the device head carefully into the housing. The cleaning rotor and
the quartz glass sleeve will be pushed into the rear receptacle inside the
housing in this process.
9. The interior marking on the device head must agree with the marking on
the housing (see fig.). Push the device head carefully into the housing
until the stop. Note: If the device head cannot be completely pushed on,

10.3 Clean inspection glass
1. Unplug the Bitron’s power plug.
2. Switch off the pump and safeguard it from being turned on again
unintentionally.
3. Press the safety engaging lever, turn the Bitron device head in the direction
of the arrow until the stop, and pull it out carefully with the cleaning rotor.
4. Clean the inspection glass from inside and outside. Note: The inspection
glass cannot be removed!
5. Check the O-ring on the device head for damage and correct seat. The
O-ring must sit in front of the recess on the device head (see illustration).
6. Push the device head carefully into the housing. The cleaning rotor and
the quartz glass sleeve will be pushed into the rear receptacle inside the
housing in this process.

14.Troubleshooting in case of malfunction
If there is no improvement in the water quality 4 weeks after turning on the
Bitron, take the following measures:

Dispose of your Bitron device in an environmentally responsible manner.
Obtain disposal information from your local authorities.
UVC bulbs should not be disposed of in household garbage! Remove the UVC
bulb from the device and return the UVC bulb to a collection point so that it can
be picked up for environmentally responsible disposal.
11.Storage/winter care
If frost is expected then you must deinstall the device! Thoroughly clean the
device (see section 10. Cleaning). Check the Bitron for damages. Store the Bitron
in a dry and frost-free location. Children must not have access to the storage
location.
12.Repair
Please return the Bitron to an authorized OASE dealer for repair. The power
cord of this device cannot be replaced. If the power cord is damaged, the
device must be disposed of.

18. LIMITED WARRANTY
This OASE Bitron UVC Clarifier is covered by a 2-years limited warranty by
OASE. The limited warranty period begins from the date of purchase and
covers material and manufacturing defects or failure of the product to operate
as specified by OASE during the limited warranty period.
This limited warranty does not cover failure or problems related to:
– Improper installation - see this manual for proper installation procedures.
– Any modification or repair of the product in any way other than by OASE
trained and authorized repair technician.
– Failure to follow proper safety, care and maintenance guidelines – as
outlined in this manual.
This limited warranty does not cover those parts of the product that are
subject to normal wear and tear during usage of the product, such as:
– Impellers on pumps
– Filter pads and filter medium in filters
– Lamps in lights and UV clarifiers
OASE¹s sole liability shall be to replace or repair the product covered by this
limited warranty. OASE shall not be liable for any consequential damage to
any other part of the water garden, pond, water feature, landscape, structure,
or the contents of any structure where the product is located or used -
including no liability for damage or harm to fish, animals, or plants in or around
the water garden, pond or water feature. THE EXPRESS WARRANTIES SET
FORTH HEREIN ARE THE ONLY WARRANTIES WITH RESPECT TO THE
PRODUCTS, AND THE REMEDIES SET FORTH HEREIN ARE THE EXCLUSIVE
REMEDIES IN THE EVENT OF A BREACH OF SUCH WARRANTIES. OASE
EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY

2. Utilisation appropriée
La série Bitron est concue pour le nettoyage d'eau de bassin normale d'une
température entre +4°C et +35°C. Par l'irridiation de l'eau du bassin avec des
rayons UVC à ondes courtes s'effectue la destruction de germes et de
bactéries ainsi que la floculation d'algues.
En combinaison avec les filtres de bassin OASE et les pompes OASE, un
nettoyage optimal des bassins est réalisé.

3. Consignes de sécurité importantes
AVERTISSEMENT – Afin d'éviter les blessures, il est nécessaire d'observer
les mesures de sécurité standard suivantes :
1. VEUILLEZ LIRE ET RESPECTER LES CONSIGNES DE SECURITE
SUIVANTES.
2. DANGER – Afin d'éviter le risque d'une décharge électrique, une prudence
particulière est de rigueur, étant donné que de l'eau est nécessitée pour
l'exploitation de cet appareil. Dans chacune des situations suivantes, ne
tentez aucune réparation par vous-même ; retournez le produit au service
certifié ou débarrassez-vous en.
– Si le produit tombe à l'eau, NE TENTEZ PAS de le repêcher!
Débranchez-le dans un premier temps pour le ressortir ensuitede
l'eau. Si des composantes électriques ou le produit se
mouillent, débranchez immédiatement.
– N'utilisez aucun appareil à câble ou prise endommagés, en cas de
panne technique ou s'il est tombé à terre ou endommagé.
3. Débranchez toujours un appareil hors service avant de monter ou de
démonter des éléments de construction et avant le nettoyage. Ne tirez
jamais le cordon de force hors de la prise. Débranchez en tirant à partir de
la fiche.
4. N'utilisez pas le produit pour un autre objectif que celui intentionné par
OASE. L'utilisation de pièces rapportées non recommandées ou vendues
par le fabricant de l'appareil sont la cause d'éventuelles pannes.
5. Lisez et respectez les consignes importantes sur le produit.
6. RESPECTEZ CES CONSIGNES
4. Consignes de sécurité générales
– Attention : Danger de radiation par rayons UV ! L'exposition des
yeux et de la peau aux rayons UV peut causer des blessures.
N'utilisez jamais la lampe du Bitron hors de l'embase!
– Pour votre propre sécurité, adressez-vous à un électricien certifié en
cas de questions ou de problèmes !
– N'immergez jamais l'appareil !
– Débranchez toujours tous les appareils se trouvant dans l'eau et de cet
appareil avant de procéder à des travaux !
–Utilisez le Bitron uniquement en position horizontale / de suspens, les
supports vers le bas.
–Notez que le Bitron est équipé d'aimants permanents. Leur champ magnétique
peut :
–affecter les stimulateurs cardiaques. Les personnes concernées sont
priées d'éviter tout contact avec le Bitron.
–créer des interférences avec des composantes électriques et
électronniques. Il est donc recommandé de les tenir à l'écart du Bitron.
– effacer des données sur les porteurs de données. Tenir ces derniers
à l'écart du Bitron.

–Assurez-vous que l'unité soit installée conformément aux normes
nationales et électriques.
–Assurez-vous que le Bitron soit installé à mini. 2 m du bord du bassin.
–Assurez-vous que le système d'écoulement soit exempt de salissures.
–Assurez-vous que l'appareil soit débranché avant l'entretien.
–Assurez-vous que les fiches et les câbles soient toujours exempts d'eau.
–Assurez-vous que l'appareil soit retourné à un service certifié en cas de
réparation.
A éviter
–Ne dépassez pas la “Pression Maximale d'Exploitation” de 7 psi.
–Ne portez ou ne tirez pas l'appareil à partir du cordon électrique.
–Ne modifiez pas les caractéristiques de la prise de mise à la terre ou
n'exploitez pas l'appareil sans prise de mise à la terre appropriée.
–N'exploitez pas l'appareil si le cordon électrique paraît défectueux.
–N'exploitez pas la lampe hors du boîtier.
–N'exploitez pas l'appareil à sec.
–N'exposez pas vos yeux ou votre peau aux rayons UV de la lampe.
–Ne tentez pas de réparer l'appareil par vous-même.
–N'ouvrez pas l'embase du Bitron ou des parties attenantes si ceci n'est
pas expressément mentionné dans les instructions de service
5. Connexion électrique
CONSIGNES DE MISE A LA TERRE
Ce produit doit être mis à la terre afin de réduire une décharge électriqueen
cas de défaillance ou de panne. Ce produit est équipé d'un cordon avec un
dispositif de conduction à la terre et d'une fiche de mise à la terre. La fiche
doit être branchée sur une prise correctement installée et conforme aux
normes et décrets locaux sur l'électricité.
DANGER – Tout branchement incorrect du dispositif de conduction à la terre
peut provoquer une électrocution. À l'aide d'un électricien certifié ou du
personnel de service, contrôlez en cas de doute la bonne mise à la terre de
la prise. N'échangez pas la fiche fournie avec le produit. Si elle ne peut pas
être branchée sur la prise, demandez à un électricien certifié d'installer une
prise appropriée.
6. Protection par prise disjoncteur de mise a la terre (GFCI)
Afin d'être conforme aux normes électriques nationales (NFPA 70) et d'apporter
une protection supplémentaire contre le risque d'une décharge électrique, il
convient de connecter cet appareil uniquement à un receptacle protégé par
une prise disjoncteur de mise à la terre (GFCI).
AVERTISSEMENT – Afin de réduire le risque d'électrocution, gardez toutes
les connexions au sec et au dessus du sol. Ne touchez pas de fiche les
mains mouillées.
