1.1 INTRODUCTION
This service manual contains the information needed to perform routine maintenance and
service on the Ohaus SF40A Printer. Familiarity with the printer’s Instruction Manual is
assumed.
1.2 SERVICE FACILITIES
To service a printer, the service area should meet the following requirements:
Should be temperature controlled and meet printer’s specifications for temperature
environmental requirements.
Area must be clean and free of excessive dust.
Work surface must be stable and level.
Printer must not be exposed to direct sunlight or radiating heat sources.
Use an approved Electro-Static Device.
1.3 TOOLS AND TEST EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
The service shop should contain the following equipment:
1. Standard hand tools.
2. Digital Voltmeter (DVM).
3. Standard Electronics tool kit.
4. Grounding mat and clip.

1.4 Open Unit
1 Disconnect Line and Interface
Cables.
2 Remove Top Paper Cover and Paper
Roll/Rotary Axis.
3Remove screw Aand flip Top
Housing to the front.
4 Disconnect Keypad B.
1.5 Replace Print Head, Rubber pads
1Open Unit, (see section 1.4).
2Disconnect Print Head Cfrom Main
PCB D.
3Remove the ribbon cartridge E.
3Loosen the 2 front screws, remove
the 2 rear screws and replace the
Print Head.
4 The Rubber Pads Fare pressed
into their respective sockets. To
replace, pull pad off and press new
one into socket.

1.6 Replace Main PCB
1Open Unit, (see section 1.4).
2Disconnect RS Cable G.
3Disconnect power (red) and ground
(black) cable Hon Power Supply
PCB.
4 Remove Print Head C, see section
1.5.
5Unscrew and remove/replace Main
PCB I.
1.7 Replace Power Supply PCB
1 Open Unit, (see section 1.4).
2Disconnect 4 cables J1 to J4 K.
3Unscrew Land remove/replace
Power Supply PCB.
1.8 Replace Interface PCB
1Open Unit, (see section 1.4).
2Disconnect Interface Cable P on
Interface PCB R.
3Lift out and remove/replace
Interface PCB.

1.9 Replace DC Power Socket, Power Switch
1Open Unit, (see section 1.4).
2Disconnect affected cables.
3Pinch retaining clips and lift
switch A out.
1.10 Replace Keypad Overlay
Note: Once removed, the keypad cannot
be reused.
1Open Unit, (see section 1.4).
2Use a knife to prize up a corner of
the keypad and slowly pull it off.
3 Remove any residual adhesive (use
acetone if need be).
4On the new keypad, remove cover
film of adhesive surface.
5Insert ribbon cable in top housing
and line up the keypad with the edge
of the bottom rim of the depression in
the top housing. Now lay keypad in
the depression and press down.
