ThankyouforpurchasingourDRAGOGoldhead.
Beforestartingthemachineandbegingathering,pleasereadeachsectionofthismanualforcorrectuseof
themachine,topreservethequalityoftheequipmentandespeciallytoprotectthesafetyofpersonnel.
Thismanualcontainsthedescriptionoftheoperationandtheinstructionsneededtoproperlyperformthe
mainoperationsofuse,routineandperiodicmaintenanceoftheMachine.
Forpracticalityandconsultationpurposesthismanualisdividedintoeasilyidentifiablechapters.
Theinstructionscontainedareintendedforusebyaprofessionaloperatorwhomusthavespecificknowledge
ofhowtousethemachineandmustbeauthorised,instructedandappropriatelytrained.
Theleftandrightsideofthemachineareintendedasseenfromthedrivingpositionofthecombine
harvester.

2. SAFETY
Assumingthattheequipmentcalled"DRAGOGold"hascharacteristicsthatimplyaconsiderabledegreeof
danger,giventhenatureofthegatheringsystem,theoperatorandanypersonswhowillbewithinrangeof
theequipmentmusttaketheprecautionsoutlinedinthismanualandthoseincludedinthecombine
harvesteroperator'smanualintoextremeconsideration.
Beforeworkingwiththesunflowerhead,readthismanual,themanualofthecardanshaftssuppliedwith
themachineandtheoperator'smanualofthecombineharvestercarefullyandaccurately.
Throughthismanualyouwillbeabletoacquirealltheinformationregardingthegeneral
characteristicsoftheequipment,essentialforthetrainingofpersonneltoensuresafeuse.
Important:payattentiontothedecalsplacedvisiblyontheequipment,thatidentifythedangerous
elementsandbehaviours,recommendedforyoursafety(Danger‐Attention‐Warning)followed
byspecificinstructions.Theseprecautionsareintendedtoachieveprotectionofthepersonal

AVOIDENTANGLEMENTS:
Toavoid"entanglements":
-Noactivityoroperationmustbeperformedwithpersonnelneartheheadwhenitis
operating.
-Personnelmustnotwearunsuitableclothingsuchasbeltsorlooseor
flutteringfabricparts.
-Itisabsolutelyforbiddentotrytointervenewithmakeshiftitemsduringthe
normaloperationofthemachineortoresolveanomaliespresent.
-Anyoperation,includingunscrewingofthehead,mustbecarriedoutwith
themachinestoppedanddisconnectedasdescribedinthefollowingchapters.
Failuretocomplywiththeaboveindicationscouldbefatal,asthegatheringsystemisaggressive.
Incaseofentanglementproceedasfollows:
-Securethemachinebyremovinganddisconnectingallsourcesofenergy;
-Dependingonthecase,proceedwithdismantlingandremovalofthepartsthatcreateentrapment
ormanuallyactuaterotationofthemovingpartsintheoppositedirection,makingsureinadvance
thatnofurtherdamageoccurs.

Beforeworkingwiththishead,readcarefully,understandandassimilatethecontentsofthismanual,aswell
asthatofyourcombineharvester.Sharethisinformationwiththosepersonswhoworkwith/for
you.
1. Beforestartingthesunflowerhead,checkthetrafficsafetyregulations.
2. Makesurethatallpersonsremainatadistancefromthecombineharvesterbefore
startingtheengine.
3. Payattentiontoalllocalsafetyregulationsinadditiontotherecommendationsalreadyprescribed
inthismanual.
4. Beforestartingwork,becomefamiliarwithallthedevicesandtheirfunctions.
5. Thecombineharvestershouldalwayshavesufficientweightontherearaxletoensuresafeuse.For
adequatestability,incertainconditions,moreweightmayberequiredontherearaxle.Gotosection
6forsunflowerheadweightsandrefertothecombineharvestermanualforthenecessaryballast.

10. ATTENTION‐Beforecarryingoutanyworkonthemachine,carryoutthesafetyoperations
describedinthefollowingchapters.
Avoidcontactwithrotatingcomponents
Payattentiontothemovinghead.Themobilepartsofthesunflowerheadcannotbe
completelyprotectedwithguards.Whenusingthemachinealwaysmaintainasafedistance
frommovingparts.
Donotinsertmaterialintothemachineusingyourhands.
Toavoidbecomingcaughtup,donotuseyourhandstoinsertmaterialintotheheadanddonotattemptto
freeorblockthemovingmachine.Carryouttheseoperationsonlywhenthemachineisturnedoffandthe
cardanshaftsaredisengaged.Theclutchsystemontheaugerandgatheringchainshaltsanymovement
whenthereisapeakintheloadpreventingthemechanicalcomponentsfromoverloading.Assoonasthe
obstructionhasbeenremoved,themachinestartsworkingagain.Iftheheadisfittedwithastalkchopper,
intheeventofanoverloadduetoanobstruction,theoilisdeviatedtowardsthedrainconnectedtothehead
insteadofflowingtowardstheengineoutlet,thushaltingthemovementoftheengine.Assoonasthe
obstructionhasbeenremoved,thehydraulicenginestartsupagain.Gatheringchainscomeintocontactwith
theplantandcollectthematerialmuchfasterthanyouareabletoreleasethegriponthematerialitself.

Prolongedexposuretoloudnoisescancauseproblemsorlossofhearing.
Thesunflowerheadcannotbeusedwithoutattachmenttoacombineharvester;thisoperating
conditioncausesthenoisetowhichtheuserisexposedtobeproducedmorebythecombine
harvesterthanbythesunflowerheaditself.
Thenatureofthemachineanditsoperatingprinciple,however,involvethepresenceofasignificantlevelof
noise.Actualexposurewillvaryaccordingtothecombineharvesterandconditionsofuse.
Withoutprejudicetotheobligationoftheusertoverifytheactualexposureoftheworkerintherelevant
conditionsofuse,OLIMACrecommendstheuseofsuitableprotectionssuchasheadphonesorearplugsto
protectagainstexposuretonoise.
2.3 PRECAUTIONSFORMAINTENANCEOPERATIONS
DANGERMOVINGPARTS
Gatheringchainsofthesunflowerhead,aswellascuttingdisks,augersandothermovingpartscannotbe
completelyprotectedtoavoidcompromisingthefunctionalityofthesunflowerhead.
Alwayskeepasafedistancefromthesemovingpartsduringtheiroperation.
Beforeperforminganyrepairormaintenanceonthecombineharvesterorcylinderhead:
1. Placethesunflowerheadonthegroundonastablesurfaceorraisetheheadcompletelyandlower
theductsafetystopsupports.
2. Applytheparkingbrake.
3. Turnoffthecombineharvesterandremovetheengineignitionkey.
4. Disengagethecardanshafts.
5. Hanga"donotoperate"signintheoperator'scab.
6. Ifthesunflowerheadbecomesobstructed,stopthecombineharvesterandenginebeforeremoving
theobstruction.Failuretodosocouldresultinseriousinjuryordeath.

Spurtsfromhigh‐pressurenozzlescanpenetrateskinandcauseseriousinjuries.
Storethesespurtdevicestopreventcontactwithyourhandsorbody.
Intheeventofanaccident,seekmedicaladviceimmediately.
1. Placetheheadonthegroundonastablesurfaceorraisetheheadcompletelyandlowertheduct
safetystopsupports.
2. Alwaysreleaseallhydraulicpressureandwaituntilthesystemhascooleddowntoambient
temperaturebeforeworkingonthemachinery.Otherwiseseriousinjurymayoccur.
3. Atleastonceduringtheseasoninspectallthehydraulicpipestocheckforcracksordamage.Ifthese
tubesshowsignsofwearordamage,replacethemimmediately.
4. Inordertocheckforleaksuseapieceofcardboard;neveruseyourhands.Ifanaccidentoccurs,
immediatelycontactadoctorwhoisfamiliarwiththistypeofinjury.Anyinjuryofthistypeshould
betreatedsurgicallywithinaveryfewhours,otherwisegangrenecouldoccur.Turnoffthecombine
harvesterandremovetheengineignitionkey.Disengagethecardanshafts.
Beforeweldingorheatinganysurfaceofthemachine,removethepaintto
avoidtheproductionoftoxicfumesanddust.
1. Beforewelding,disconnectallthebatteries.
2. Workonlyinwell‐ventilatedareas.
3. Removethepaintaroundtheareaaffectedbyoverheating.
4. Ifyouneedtosandorgrind,avoidbreathingdustbyusingsuitablevacuumcleanersand/or
respiratoryprotection.
5. Ifyouusesolventsorpaintstrippers,removethesolventswithwaterandsoapbeforewelding.Never
usechlorinateddetergentsbeforewelding.
6. Removeallsprays,combustiblefluidsandanyotherflammablematerialfromtheworkarea.
Letthesmokedisperseforatleast15minutesbeforeweldingorheating.
7. Whenusingflames,keepallhydrauliclinesandtanksawayfromtheworkarea.
Otherwisethepressurisedfluidscouldignite.
8. Placevarnishesandsolventsinspecialplacesandinsafety.
Flamescanbegeneratedbyoverheatingareasnearpipeswithpressurisedfluidsresultinginsevereburns
foryouandforthosenearby.

4. INTENDEDUSE
Themachineisdesignedandintendedforsunflower/sorghumharvestingfollowingattachmenttothe
combineharvester.
Themechanicaltransmissionandanyhydraulicandelectricalsuppliesderivefromthecombineharvester.
Duringuseofthemachine,theworkstationconsistsofthecontrolunitofthecombineharvester.
4.1 MACHINEOPERATINGRANGE

4.2 MACHINEWORKING
Useofthesunflowerheadrequiresconnectiontothedrivingforcebymeansofacardanshaft.Ifthereare
optionalaccessoriessuchassideaugersorstalkchoppers,theelectro‐hydraulicheadblockmustbe
connectedtotheoneonthecombineharvester.Ifanoptionalstalkchopperisfittedonmachinesuptonine
rows,theheatexchangermustbeconnectedtothecigarettelighterinthecabusingthespecialcable
supplied.Theoperatorworksfromthecabofthevehicletowhichthemachineiscoupledandfromwhich
theycan(andmust)carryoutallthenecessarycommandsforthefunctionprovidedbytheequipment.No
otherusersarerequiredorneededinpositionsotherthanthatofthecabdescribedabove.
Operationofthemachineconsistsof"taking"theplantinthespaceleftbetweenthebuffersofthetwo
gatheringchainsmountedonthegroups.Whentheplantisinthemiddleofthepathontherowassemblyit
iscutbythediskslocatedatthebaseofthegroupandtransportedtowardstheaugercompartment,where
itjoinstheproductflowfromtheotherrowsandisconveyedtowardsthefeedductofthecombineharvester.
Ifthereareoptionalstalkchoppers,thedevicecanberaisedandloweredbyoperatingtheliftcontrolsinthe
cab.Thestalkchopperlinkagesystemkeepsitatafixedheightdecidedbytheuseror,byfullyextendingthe
liftingpistons,allowsittofollowthecontouroftheground,ensuringtheplantiscutattheminimumheight
fromtheroot.Thebestcuttingresultisobtainedwiththestalkchopperontheground,butwerecommend
raisingitslightlyiftherearemediumorlargestonespresent.
