2. INTENDEDUSE
Themachineisdesignedandintendedtobeusedafterassemblyontoacombineharvesterforharvesting
corn/sunflowers.
Themachineismechanicallydrivenandhydraulicallyandelectricallypoweredbythecombineharvester.

Duringoperation,theworkspaceisthecabinofthecombineharvester.


Machineoperatingrange:
Environmental(Tmaxandmin,etc.):machinedesignedtooperateoutdoors.
MinimumOperatingTemperature=0°C
MaximumOperatingTemperature=45°C
Maximumhumidity=85%
MaximumStorageTemperature=70°C
MinimumStorageTemperature=‐20°C
Operationsenvisaged:machinedesignedforharvestingcorn/sunflowers.
Operator:readandunderstandtheuserandmaintenancemanual.
Powersupplies:theequipmentispoweredbyconnectingthePTOshaftstothedriveofthevehicle
onwhichitisintendedtobeinstalledbytheoperator.

MACHINEOPERATION
TheuseofthismachinerequiresconnectiontothedrivevehicleviaaPTOshaft.Theoperatorworksfromthecabinof
thevehicleonwhichthemachineismountedandfromwhichtheoperatorcan(andmust)issueallthecommands
neededfortheintendeduseofthecornhead.Nootheroperatorsareenvisagedorrequiredinpositionsothethan
thecabinmentionedabove.
Machineoperationconsistsin"taking"theplantanddraggingitdownwardsthroughapairofstalkrollersinstalledon
eachrow.
Thecobofcornisseparatedfromtheplantanddraggedtowardsthebottomofthemachinewherethescrew
conveyorcollectstheproduct.

OPERATORINTERACTIONSWITHTHEMACHINE:
Fromthecabinofthecombineharvester,theoperatorisabletoperformthefollowingtasks:
‐foldinglateralrows(dependingonmodel)
‐settingspeed(dependingoncombineharvestermodels)
‐startingandstoppingmechanicaltransmission,
‐lifting/loweringthecornhead.

‐inpotentiallyexplosiveandaggressiveenvironments,orwhereconcentrationsofdustoroily
substancessuspendedintheairarehigh;
‐byuntrainedanduninformedpersonnel;
‐whensafetydevicesareunavailable,havebeenremovedortamperedwith;
‐withanyelectricaljumperand/orothermeansthatexcludeutilities/partsofthemachine;
‐foroperationsotherthanthosespecifiedinthismanual.




4. GENERALSAFETYINFORMATION
Assumingthatthe"Drago"corn‐headhasfeaturescharacterisedbyaconsiderablelevelofdanger,given
thenatureoftheharvestingsystem,theoperatorandanypersonswithintheoperationalrangeofthe
machinemustmakesureallthesafetyprecautionsdescribedinthismanual,aswellasthoseincludedin
theusermanualofthecombineharvester,arecompliedwith.

Carefullyandaccuratelyreadthismanualandthecombineharvesterusermanualbeforeoperatingthe
equipment.

-Makesurethateveryoneisfullyawareofhowthemachineoperatesbeforestartingit.
‐Beforestartingthecornhead,checkitsfunctionalityandsafetyintraffic.
‐Payattentiontothesafetyregulationsexpectedtobeimplementedbytheoperatoraswellasthe
recommendationsmadeinthismanual!
‐Thewarningsignsaffixedhighlighthazardousoperations.Observethemastheyareintendedto
ensureyoursafety.
‐Beforestartingwork,getacquaintedwiththeimplementationelementsanddevicesandhowto
usethem!Donotwaituntilyouareworking.Itwillbetoolate!
‐Thecombineharvestershouldalwayshaveenoughweightontherearaxletoallowsafeoperation.
Inparticularharvestingconditions,moreweightmaybeneededontherearaxleinordertoensure
adequatestability.
‐Payattentiontotheadmissibleaxleloadsandtotalweights!
‐Thebehaviourofthemainmachineduringtheworkactivitiesandthesteeringandbrakingsystems
areinfluencedbythemachine(accessory)fittedtoit.Makesurethereisenoughspacetoallow
steeringandbraking.
‐Theoperatormustbetheonlypersonsittingonthecombineharvesterduringoperations.Donot
allowanyonetoclimbonthecombineharvesterduringoperation.
‐Keepalltheguardsandshieldsinplaceandneverworkaroundtheheadorthecombineharvester
duringoperation.
‐Donotwearlooseclothesthatcouldgetcaughtinmovingparts.




DANGERMOVINGPARTS
Thestalkrollersandthecornheadgatheringchains,thescrewsandothermovingpartscannotbefully
protectedasthiswouldaffecttheiroperation.
Alwaysstandatasafedistancefrommovingpartsduringoperation.


AVOIDENTRAPMENT.
Toavoidentrapment:
-noactivityoroperationistobecarriedoutwhileoperatorsarestanding
neartheheadduringoperation;
-operatorsmustnotwearunsuitableclothing,suchasbeltsorloose
piecesoffabric; 
-interventionwithmakeshiftelementsduringnormaloperationorinthe
eventofanomalies,isforbidden;
-anyoperation,includingtheuncloggingofthehead,mustbecarriedout
whilethemachineisoffandnotpowered,asdescribedinthefollowing
chapters.

Failuretocomplywiththefollowinginstructionsmaybefatal,astheharvestingsystemisaggressive.

Intheeventofentrapment:
-securethemachinebyremoving/disconnectingallpowersources;
-dependingonthecase,disassembleandremovethepartsinvolvedintheentrapment,ormanually
rotatemovablepartsintheoppositedirection,makingsurethatnofurtherinjuryiscaused.


NOISEPROTECTION
Prolongedexposuretoloudnoisescancausehearinglossordamage.
Thenatureofthemachineanditsoperatingprincipleinvolveasignificantlyhighlevelofnoise.Actual
exposurewillvarydependingonthecombineharvesterandconditionsofuse.

Notwithstandingtheuser’sobligationtochecktheactualexposureoftheworkerunder
therelativeconditionsofuse,OLIMACrecommendstheuseofappropriateprotective
equipment,suchasearmuffsorearplugstoprotectagainstexposuretonoise.














Flamescanbegeneratedbyoverheatingnearpipescontainingpressurizedfluid,resultinginsevereburns
totheoperatorandthosestandingby.
Donotuseweldingtorchesnearthesepipesornearotherflammablematerials.The
pressurizedpipesmaybeaccidentallycutwhenheatspreadsbeyondtheflamearea. 



PROTECTYOURSELFAGAINSTHIGH‐PRESSURESPURTS
Spurtsfromhigh‐pressurenozzlescanpenetrateskinandcauseseriousinjuries.
Storethesespurtingelementsinsuchaswayastopreventcontactwithyourhandsor
body.
Intheeventofanaccident,calladoctorimmediately. 

6. SUPPLY,TRANSPORTATION,INSTALLATIONANDCONNECTIONTOA
COMBINEHARVESTER

SUPPLY
TheOLIMACcornheadissuppliedwithfixedsupportsinstalledbelowtheframeforstandingitonthe
groundduringoperations,storageortransport.
Forspacereasons,aspecialstandcanbeprovidedtoallowstorageinanuprightpositionandeasyaccess
fortheadjustmentandthelubricationofthecornhead.


















Eachcornheadmustbesuitedtothecombineharvesterusedandthespecificationsarementionedinthe
deliverynoteincludedwiththecornhead.
Allcombineharvesterdrivepartsanduniversaljointsarepackagedseparatelyandincludedinthedelivery.

HOISTING
Whenperformingthemanoeuvresdescribedbelow,MAKESURETHAT:
‐anyoperationcarriedoutwithequipmentsuchashoists,cranes,slings,etc.,isperformedbyqualified
personnelTRAINEDtousesuchdevices;
‐noonestandsorwalksunderorclosetosuspendedloads;
‐thehoistingequipmentusedhasacapacity25%greaterthantheweightofthemachine,asspecified
onthemetalplateontheupperrightsideoftheframe;
‐staffappointedtocarryoutmanoeuvresuseappropriatePPE;
‐theanchorageiscarriedoutusingthesupportsprovidedforsuchpurpose.



TRANSPORT
Duringtransportoperationsusingtrucks,thecornheadmustrestonitssupportsoronasuitabletransport
racktokeepitvertical.
Theusermustguaranteethestabilityoftheequipmentduringallphases.Forthispurpose,itismandatory
tosecurethemachinewitharopepassingthroughtheholesinthedrawbar.

LoadingandUnloading.
Thecornheadmustbeharnessedintheappropriatecouplingpointsasshowninthesparepartscatalogue.
Tobalancetheload,securetworopesontopoftheexternalframe.




Caution:

-theremustbenoonewithintherangeofactionofthecrane.
-transportmustbecarriedoutusingsuitabledevices.
-beforelifting,checktheconditionoftheropesandtheconnectionsfastenedtothemachine.


Movingacornheadattachedtothefrontofthecombineharvester:
‐makesurethatthesafetysignsandlightsmountedonthecornheadandonthecombine
harvesterareefficientandthatthereflectingmaterialsarecleanandvisible.Replaceorrepairany
damagedorwornparts;
‐whenevernotprovidedforbythehighwaycode,duringthemovementofthecombineharvester
equippedwithacornhead,makesurethatanaccompanyingvehicledrives300maheadofthe
vehicletosignalthepresenceofthe"oversizeload";
‐thedrivingspeedmustbeappropriatetothetrafficand/orpotentialhazards,alwaysincompliance
withallroadtrafficregulations;
‐avoidanybehaviourthatmightbeanobstacleordangertoothervehicles,avoidingthecreationof
longtailbacksbehindthevehicle;
‐noonemustparkorstandclosetothemovingvehicleorwhentheengineisstartedduringthe
cornheadtestingphase;
‐keepchildrenandunauthorizedpersonsoutoftherangeofthemachines;

MOUNTINGTHECORNHEADONACOMBINEHARVESTER
IMPORTANT:beforemountingthecornheadonthecombineharvester,checktheefficiencyofallthe
movingpartsandthehoistingequipment,particularlythetyreload,thebrakesystem,thehydraulic
hoistingsystemandtheloadbalancetoensuretheefficiencyofthesteeringsystemmountedontherear
axle.(20%ofthetotalmassmustbeshiftedtowardstherearaxle).
Couplethecornheadtothecombineharvesteronaflatsurfacetoverifythecorrecttiltangle.
Carefullycleantheadapterandtheconnectiononthecouplingpointsinordertosecurecoupling.



IMPORTANT:thepipelockpin1mustbefullyinsertedinthepocketbelowtheupperbarofthecornhead.
Thecouplingiscarriedoutinthesamewayasforawheatreaper.












COUPLING
Beforemountingthecornheadonthecombineharvester,checktheefficiencyofallthemovingpartsand
thehoistingequipment.
Thecouplingoperationsmustbecarriedoutinopen,flatareasfreefromobstacles.
Lock 1
 DANGER:
allassemblyoperationsandpowerconnectionsmustbecarriedoutstrictlyafterthefollowingsafety
measuresareperformed:
‐alwaysturnofftheengine,
‐engagethehandbrake,
‐removetheignitionkeyandconnectthepipesafetylockinpositionontheliftcylinder,
‐hanga"DONOTUSE"signintheoperator'scabinonthecombineharvester.

Failuretoengagethesafetylockmayresultininjuriesordeath.

Alloperationsaretobeperformedwhenthemachineisdisconnectedfromanysourceofpowerand
whenallthemovingpartsareidle.




Aftermakingsurethattheareaisclearfrompeople:
‐startthecombineharvesterandcautiouslymovethefeedingpipetowardsthecornheadcoupling
point;
‐lowerthepipesothatitisafewcentimetresbelowtheheadsupportbar;
‐positionthecombineharvestersothatthepipeiscentredoverthecornheadopeningandmove
thepipeforwarduntilitcouplescompletelywiththecornhead;
‐slowlyraisethepipeuntilthecorn‐headiscompletelyofftheground(afewcentimetres).
Ifthecouplingisnotcorrect,lowerthepipebacktothegroundandliftitagain.Thisshouldcorrectany
misalignment.Beforeliftingthecornheadcompletely,makesurethattheadapterisproperlyattachedto
thehead.
Securethelowerhookstothecouplingpointonlyaftermakingsurethattheliftingoperationscanbe
performedsafely.Thenconnecttheuniversaljointsandthehydraulicandelectricalparts.


DANGERMOVINGPARTSANDCRUSHING
Duringinstallation,noonemustbeallowedtostandbetweenthecornheadandthecombine
harvester.


Theincorrectcouplingofthechanneltothecornheadcanresultinthedetachmentofthecorn
headandcauseittofall.Failuretocomplywiththeabovecanresultindeathorseriousinjury.


CAUTION:verifythecorrecttiltangleofthecornheadinrelationtotheground.Failuretocomplywith
thisinstructioncanresultinincreasedpowerconsumptionofthecornheadorthebreakageofastalk
chopper.Whenthefrontplatesoftheassemblytouchthegroundtherearsupportshouldberaisedby
70/90mm.




Ifthetiltangleisnotcorrect,uncoupletheheadandadjustthecoupling.
Ifthelevelislowerthan70mm,increasethedistancebetweenthetopcouplingpinandupperbeamofthe
frame;viceversa,ifthelevelishigherthan90mm,setthecouplingpointcloser.
Ifthetiltangleiscorrect,liftthedevicecompletely,makingsurethattheheaddoesnotknockagainstthe
cabinofthecombineharvester(thisappliestofoldingcornheads).



Alwaysturnofftheengine,engagethehandbrake,removetheignitionkeyandsetthepipe
safetylockinpositionontheelevatorcylinderbeforeworkingunderthecorn‐headorthefeeder.Failure
toengagethesafetylockmayresultininjuriesordeath.

Securethelowerpinsbetweenthecornheadandtheadaptersothatthemachineisfullylocked
intotheadapter.Failuretocomplywiththisinstructioncanresultinthedetachmentofthecornhead
andcauseittofall.

HYDRAULICCONNECTION(forfoldingheadsonly):
Thetwohydraulicpipesfortheforwardandbackwardadjustmentofthewheat‐barreel,mountedonthe
foldingcornhead,allowthefoldingofthelateralrows.

Beforefoldingthelateralrowsforroadtransport,cleantheupperbeamofthecornheadtoallowcorrect
coupling.

IMPORTANTPressthehydrauliccommandasthecornheadopensup,beforestartingworkinthefield,to
allowthetotallateralcompressionofthepistons.
Failuretodothiscancauseamisalignmentofthesupportofthescrewconveyor.

Thefoldingcornheadsmustbestoppedbeforebeingfolded.


RISKOFCRUSHING:thefoldingofthelateralrowsmustbeoperatedfromthecabinofthe
combineharvesteronly,onlyafterensuringthatnooneisstandingwithinthedangerzone.





















ELECTRICWIRING
Connectthewiringofsignallightstotheelectricalconnectorofthecombineharvester.
Ifthecornheadisequippedwithanautomaticworklevelcontrol,coupletheconnectorintotheconnector
ofthecombineharvester.IfthecornheadisequippedwiththeoptionalFieldDragfeature,couplethe
connectortotheconnectorofthecombineharvester.

ELECTROCUTIONRISK:regularlychecktheconformityand
integrityoftheelectricalinsulation.


UNIVERSALJOINT
SecurethePTOshaftfirsttothecornheadandthentotheliftpipeshaft,makingsurethatthepinofthe
universaljointcoupleswiththeshaftgroove.


DANGERMOVINGPARTS:themechanicaltransmissionmustnotbepoweredintheabsenceof
suitableprotections.
Regularlychecktheintegrityandconformityofthedriveshaftsandtheirguards.













