Onkyo CBX-500 User manual

CBX-500 All-In-One Audio System
Streamlined All-in-One System with CD, USB, and i od layback
If you’re looking for a versatile and compact music solution for smaller spaces, the stylish CBX-500 is a compelling choice. Despite its
modest size, this all-in-one audio system delivers a thoroughly vibrant performance. The key is the i od dock’s digital connection, which
gives far greater fidelity than analog. Located not on top but front and center, the retractable dock also helps to give the system a
streamlined profile. Naturally, the CBX-500 also handles the most popular CD formats, as well as M 3 and WMA files saved to disc or
stored on USB flash drives. The speakers incorporate proven Onkyo technologies such as OMF diaphragms and Aero Acoustic Drives,
while the remote adds i od browsing to the usual convenient control functions.
Slim Body with Top-Loading CD Slot
With its compact profi e, the CBX-500 is easy to p ace on a she f,
dresser, or desk—anywhere you want to add superb sound without
taking up too much space. The front-side retractab e iPod tray keeps
the unit ooking stream ined, as you don’t need to sit your device on
top. Meanwhi e, to protect the high-precision hardware inside, the top-
oading CD drive features a dust-proof s ot cover. A so id a uminum
finish on top gives the unit a sty ish and robust fee .
Built-in Dock for Direct Digital Connection of iPod
In addition to p aying CDs, you can s ot your iPod direct y into the
CBX-500’s retractab e s iding tray to access podcasts and music in
AAC and MP3 formats. As the audio signa s are transported in digita
form, rather than ana og, there is much ess chance for signa
degradation. The accompanying remote contro gives you greater
functiona ity, etting you se ect p ay ists, skip tracks, or switch to
shuff e mode.
Side-Panel USB Port for Flash Dri es
Using the CBX-500’s side-pane USB por t, you can access MP3 and
WMA fi es from USB f ash drives that support the USB Mass Storage
C ass standard. Once your device is connected, you can use the
CBX-500’s remote contro to p ay back your music.
Tone-Enhancing Construction with Isolated Speaker
Enclosures
The construction of the CBX-500 is crafted to get the best possib e
sound from a system with obvious size imitations. First y, the inside of
the CBX-500’s main housing is braced to prevent unwanted vibrations
from adverse y impacting sound qua ity. Second y, the speakers are
separated from the main processing section to further reduce
interference.
Speaker Technologies and Duct Tuning to Further
Impro e Sound Quality
Whi e one-box systems cannot be compared to arge, high-end,
separate components, there are opportunities to achieve higher sound
qua ity by focusing on specific detai s of the construction. One
examp e is the CBX-500’s u tra-fine cotton-weave OMF speaker
diaphragms, which absorb vibrations and enab e a fast, accurate
response. Another examp e is the Aero Acoustic Drive speaker ducts,
which reduce harmfu vibrations from within the speaker enc osures.
Carefu research into the shape and size of these ducts ed to a design
with enhanced reproduction of bass frequencies.
