Inverted Microscope
Instructions
This instruction manual is for the Invert microscope XD series. To ensure the safety
and obtain optimum performance and to familiarize yourself fully with use of this
microscope, we recommend that you study this manual thoroughly before operating the
microscope. Retain this instruction manual in an easily accessible place near the work desk
for future reference.

Before Using
ⅠNotice
1. Do not let the microscope emerge in the sun directly,
either not in the high temperature, damp, dusty or
acute shake place. Make sure the worktable is
horizontal and hard enough. [Weight: about 9 KG(19.8
P), about 9.6 KG(21.2 P).]
2. When moving the microscope, you should use both
hands to hold its stand①and illumination holder②
(See fig.1 ), and lay it down carefully.
3. The power wire should be disconnected if the bacteria
liquor or water dropped on stage, objectives, or
observing tube. And make it dry as soon as possible.
Otherwise it would be damaged.
4. When working, the surface③(See fig.1 ) of the lamp
holder will be very hot. Make sure there is enough
room (especially above it) for the heat dissipating.
5. Connect the microscope to the land to avoid lightning
strike.
6.Make sure the switch④ is “
○
” (disconnected) and the
power is off when changing the bulb or the fuse. It
would be better to do so after cooling the bulb and the
lamp holder.
★ Lamp selected only: 6V/30W HAL bulb (Philips
5761)
7. It can adapt wide voltage from 90 to 240V. There is no
need for transformer. Make sure the voltage is in this
range.
8. Use the special wire supplied by our company.
Ⅱ Maintenance
1. Wipe the lens gently with a soft lens tissue. Carefully wipe off oil or fingerprints on the lens surfaces
with tissue moistened with a little of 3:7 mixture of alcohol and ether or dimethylbenzene.
★ Alcohol and ether are flammable. Don’t place these chemical near to fire or fire source. For
example, when turning on or turning off the electric device, you should use these chemicals in a
ventilated place.
2. Don not uses organic solution to wipe the surface of the other components. Please use the neutral
detergent.
3、If the microscope damped by the liquid, you should cut off the power immediately and wipe it dry.
4. Never disassemble or service the microscope yourself. It will influence its function or damage it.
5. After using, cover the microscope with a dust cover.

Read the introduction before use. Unsuitable operation would lead to person hurt or
instrument faulty.

2. Assembling

Assembling scheme
Numbers denote the assembling order.
★ Before assembling, make sure there is no dust or dirt. Assemble carefully and do not scrap any part
or touch the glass face.
★ Preserve the hexagon spanner, and it will be used when changing the parts.

Assembling step
2-2-1 Assemble and change the bulb (See fig.3)
◎ Lamp selected only: 6V/30W HAL bulb (Philips
5761)
★ Don’t touch the bulb with finger. If there is a
fingerprint, wipe it with clean and soft cloth.
1. Hold the bulb ① with clean glove or gauze and
insert the pins ② to the jack ③. Make sure the
bulb is vertical. (See fig.1)
★ Insert the bulb gently, or it will damage.
2. Change the bulb
The bulb will become very hot when using or after
using. Whenever replace the bulb, cut off the main power
(make sure the power switch is “ ○ ”, disconnect the
power wire) and wait until the lamp holder and bulb cool
down.
2-2-2 Assemble the transmission illumination
groupware (See fig.4)
1. Unbolt the screw③ on transmission illumination
groupware①, and then insert the groupware into the
holder as figure shows.
2. Rotate the groupware① in clockwise 90°to face
“AS” on color filter holder④ forward. Meet the
bolt hole, which for screw③, to the counter bore⑤.
Then fix them with hexagon spanner.
2-2-3 Assemble the lamp holder (See fig.5)
◎ Insert the plug① to the socket② on the lamp
holder. Then meet the bolt③ to the bolt hole④,
and insert the lamp holder into the illumination
groupware.

2-2-4 Assemble the objectives (See fig.6&fig.7)
1. Rotate the coarse focusing knob ①, until the
condenser is in low-limit location.(See fig.6)
★ The condenser is set to the lowest location when
exworks, to make the instrument safe in transit.
Please turn the adjusting ring② of the coarse
adjustment knob to the proper tension. (See fig.6)
2. Install the objective into the microscope nosepiece
from the lowest magnification to the highest in a
clockwise direction from the rear.
◎ It is easy for use according to doing this assemble
method.
◎ It could be also assembled by aperture on the stage.
★ Clean the objectives periodically, cause the
inverted microscope objective is sensitive.
★ Cover the hole on the condenser with the dust
cap③ to avoid the dust and the dirt. (See fig.7)
★ Search and focus the sample by low magnification
objective(4X or 10X) when using the equipment.
Then change to the high magnification ones
according as the situation observation requires.
★ Turn the condenser when changing the objectives,
and make sure the objective is shift in the light
path until here a “click”.
2-2-5 Assemble the Stage extension board/
Attachable mechanical stage (See fig.8)
◎ Stage extension board could assemble on both left
and right to extend the work stage. But the stage
extension board and the attachable mechanical stage
can not use at the same side.
◎ Attachable mechanical stage generally assembles on
the right. It would be operated more comfortably to
do so.
1. Assemble stage extension board
Screw the lock-screw ① on the stage extension
board, then screw it from bottom right or bottom left,
and use small tools to screw it down till the board is
fixing firmly.(See fig.8)
2. Assemble attachable mechanical stage
Assemble it as the stage extension board.

2-2-6 Circular central stage (See fig.9)
1. Assemble the metal stage① on the stage aperture.
◎ Turn the metal stage to face V② to the user. It is
easy to make sure the objective.
2. Just lay glass stage flat when using it. There is
special direction.
2-2-7 Assemble Eyepiece (Fig10)
1. Take off the cover① of eyepiece tube.
2. Insert the eyepiece② into the tube thoroughly.
2-2-8 Assemble the color filter (Fig 11)
★ Make sure the color filter is completely cool
down before changing it. Take down the filter
holder①, and put in the color filter② which is
needed.
◎ Downward the color filter as③, make it vertically
in the bottom.
★ It would be fallen down from the filter holder if
the color filter is inclined or not in the bottom
as④.
◎ Color filter can overlap on the color filter when
needed, but the thickness must no more than
11mm.

2-2-9 Connect power wire (See fig.12, fig.13&
fig. 14）
★ Do not exert force to power wire. It is easy to
damage by twisting it.
1. Turn the power switch to “O” ① (OFF) before
connect the power wire. (See fig.12)
2. Insert the plug② into the outlet③, and make sure
the connection is well. (See fig.13)
3. Insert another end ④of the power wire to the
supply socket⑤, and make sure the connection is
well. (See fig.14)
★ Use the special wire supplied by our company.
Choose another suitable wire if it’s lost or
damaged.
★ 90～240V wide voltage
★ Connect the wire correctly. Make sure it’s
grounded.
2-2-10 Replace the fuse (See fig.12&fig.13）
Turn the main switch ① to “O”(off) before
replacing the fuse. Pull out the main wire. Screw
off the fuse group⑥from the fuse base⑦with a
“-”screwdriver. Install a new fuse and screw on the
fuse base.
★ Specification: 250V, 3.15A。

3. Adjustment device
★ The adjustment ring for adjusting coarse tension is on the right of the equipment. See XD30 for
its location.
★ Phase-contrast slide adopt phase center adjustable slide configured with phase center
presetting rod.

4. Using adjusting device
4-1 Stand
4-1-1 Turn on the light (See fig.15)
Connect the power wire, turn on the main
switch① to “ — ” (on) .
4-1-2 Adjust brightness (See fig.16)
Turn the button in clockwise to brighten the light,
and turn in anticlockwise to darken it.
◎ Use the bulb in low voltage to increase the
service life of it.
4-1-3 Adjust coarse tension adjusting ring
★ Make sure the coarse tension adjusting ring①
is being used to adjust the tension of coarse
adjustment knob②.
◎ How to adjust tension
Turn the coarse tension adjusting ring①. Coarse
adjusting knob would be tightening if it turns in
clockwise; on the other hand it would be loosen. If
the condenser down automatically or the sample is
still deviate from the focus after focusing the fine
focusing knob③, it means the coarse focusing
knob② is too loosen. So, it should be tightened
by turning as the figure show.

4-2 Stage
4-2-1 Place sample (See fig.18&fig.19)
Place the sample in the center of the stage.
★ Please select the container like Petri dish,
culture flask etc, with the thickness of 1.5mm
to get the best observe effects. Select specimen
slide with the thickness of 1.5mm when place
the sample on it.
◎ Use Petri dish ofφ35mm
1. Place theφ35mm Petri dish holder (attached) on
the circular central stage, and put φ35mm Petri
dish in its center.
2. Slip the whole Petri dish holder to move Petri dish.
◎ Use Attachable mechanical stage
1. Lengthen the sample clip②to clip the microtitration
plate when using 96 ＃ or 24 ＃microtitration
plate.
2. In order to clip board of any type tightly, please
use holder and attachable mechanical stage as
follows:

Use Terasaki holder③ which to place Terasaki
board
●
Useφ35mm petri dish holder④ which to
place φ35mm petri dish
●
Use specimen slide holder⑤ which to place
φ54 petri dish and specimen slide.
3. Turn horizontally shift ring⑥ and vertically shift
ring⑦ to shift the specimen to proper place.
(Work distance range: 120mm×80mm)
4-2-2 Shift the specimen
Turn the shift ring on attachable mechanical stage
or move specimen by hand to proper place.
★ Carefully changing the objective. The objective
may collide with the circular central stage or
the Petri dish holder when changing the
objective after observing in the short wok
distance.

4-3 Observing tube
4-3-1 Adjust diopter (See fig.20&fig.21）
◎
1. Turn coarse focusing knob and fine focusing knob
to focus the specimen when observing the left
eyepiece with left eye.
2. Then rotate the diopter adjustment ring① if the
image is unclear when observing the right
eyepiece with right eye.(See fig.20)
★ There is ±5 diopter on the ring. The number
level to the number on the base is your eye’s
diopter. The “·”on the side has a function for
marking. (See fig.20)
★ Remember your eye’s diopter, so that you
could use next time.
◎
1. Turn coarse focusing knob and fine focusing knob
to focus the specimen when observing the right
eyepiece with right eye.
2. Then rotate the diopter adjustment ring④ if the
image is unclear when observing the left eyepiece
with left eye. (See fig.21)
★ The user could select any side of the eyepieces as
a standard of reference if there has diopter
adjustment ring on both eyepiece tubes, then
adjust the other. The eyepiece which selected as
a standard of reference must line up with “0”.
4-3-2 Adjust Interpupillary distance (See
fig.21 & fig.22）
When using two eyes to observe, hold the base of
the prism and rotate them around the axis until
there is only one field of view. (See fig.22)
The “·”①on the side has a function for marking②.
The number is the interpupillary distance. (See
fig.22)
Range：50～75mm
◎ When use XD20, the pointer is below the right
eyepiece base, see ① in fig.22. When use XD30,
the pointer is above the left eyepiece base, see ⑤
in fig.21.
★ Remember your interpupillary distance, so that
you could use next time.

4-3-3 Use the eye-cap (See fig.23)
1. If the customer wears glasses, turn over the
eye-cap①. It can prevent the glasses touching the
eyepiece and avoid damaging the glasses and the
eyepiece.
2. If the customer doesn’t wear glasses, open the
eye-cap②. It can prevent stray light disturbing the
observation.
4-3-4 Shift optical way (See fig.24)
◎ Only to trinocular observation tube.
◎ Shift the optical way by moving the block① of
shifting the optical way.
◎ Shift the block to the right until hearing a click
when doing normal observation. Shift the block to
the left until hearing a click when taking photo or
recording video.

4-4 Illumination device
4-4-1 Use color filter
◎ Use color filter to increase the accuracy of the
observation and photomicrography. Suggest user
to adopt LBD color filter to get more neutral hue
when observing bright-field and taking photo.
◎ Color filters could overlay on the filter holder,
make sure lay them level, and the maximum of the
thickness is 11mm.
★ Place the color filter according to fig.11 and the
note.

4-4-2 Use the adjusting ring of aperture
diaphragm (See fig.25)
◎ The aperture diaphragm decides the numerical
aperture of the illumination when doing bright-field
observation. If the N.A. of illumination is matching
with N.A. of the objective; you can obtain better
resolution and the contrast and increase the depth of
field.
●
The objective could be moved if needed when
affirming the aperture diaphragm. (It could be
insert the centering telescope) Observing through
the eye tube, and adjust ring of aperture
diaphragm until see the view-field as fig.25.

Usually, adjust the N.A. to its 70%~80% when
observing the dyed specimen. Adjust the aperture
diaphragm to “ ” when observing the bacteria
specimen.

4-4-3 Shift the condenser lens away (See fig.26)
◎ Turn the parts① below the condenser in clockwise
to get larger operation space. It could get the height
of 150mm.
★ Remember it would not get well illumination
when operating. It only proper to use big Petri
dish when shift away the condenser.

5. Phase-contrast observation
5-1 Nomenclature
5-1-1 Phase-contrast objective
◎ Magnification: 10X, 20X, 40X.
◎ Replace the objectives with phase-contrast
objectives as 2-2-4

of adjustment.
