INTRODUCTION
Congratulations on your purchase of Jumbo Display Millen-
nium RF Countdown Clock (JM828CD).
The JM828CD is unique in that it has a long-range countdown
timer function. Ideal for the coming millennium, this device is
also an ideal reminder for any future date of importance. Special
dates such as graduations, birthdays or special events, can be set
and the alarm will activate on that day.
In addition the JM828CD is a clock calendar with two daily alarm
functions. A radio frequency (RF) controlled timepiece, JM828CD
can maintain superbly accurate time. It features a jumbo-size,
2-line, liquid crystal display (LCD) and has a bar graph that
shows the amount of time left to a set target date.

INSTALLING OR REPLACING
BATTERIES
This unit uses two UM-3 or “AA” size 1.5V batteries.
To insert batteries:
1. Pull the door tab and click open the door.
2. Insert the batteries strictly according to the polarities shown
therein.
3. Replace the door until it clicks in place.
[ ] Replace the batteries when the battery low indicator lights
up.
Note: Immediately after inserting the batteries, all the
segments on the LCD screen will light up briefly before
displaying the time and calendar modes.
Ifnot disposed ofproperly, batteries canbe harm-
ful. Protect the environment by taking exhausted
batteries to authorized disposal stations.
ABOUT RADIO RECEPTION
The JM828CD is designed to automatically synchronize its cal-
endar clock once it is brought within range of the Frankfurt
DCF77 radio signal [UK version, Rugby (radio signal MSF)].
When the JM828CD is within range, the radio-control mecha-
nism will override all manual settings.
Upon receiving a radio signal, the Radio Reception Icon will start
to blink. Generally, complete reception take 2 to 10 minutes
depending on the strength of the radio signal.
When the reception is complete, the Radio Reception Icon will
stop blinking.
For better reception, place the clock away from metal objects and
electrical appliances to minimize interference.

If you wish to disable the auto-reception feature, press the
button for three seconds. The radio reception signal [ ] will
disappear. The unit will not respond to radio signals.
To enable the feature again, press the button for three seconds.
The radio reception signal [ ] will start blinking to initiate
reception automatically.
HOW TO USE THE JM828CD

Note: The UK version will feature a 12-hour A.M. / P. M.
time display format.

Note: If no alarm time is entered, the device will automati-
cally return to the calendar clock display after about 8
seconds.
3. Enter the hour using and .
4. Press CLOCK/ALARM KEY. The minute digits will blink.
5. Enter the minutes using and .
6. Press CLOCK/ALARM KEY to exit. The alarm ON icon
[] , for the alarm chosen, will be displayed to indicate the
alarm is now set and will activate at the indicated time.
To set the second alarm, press CLOCK/ALARM KEY to enter
Alarm 2 Display. Proceed in the same fashion as mentioned
above.
When either alarm is set, it will activate at the time indicated.
The four-step crescendo function results in the alarm starting off
gently and stepping up the intensity at 20-second intervals.
Without interruption, it will alarm for a total of two minutes.
If the alternate alarm activates while the first alarm is sounding,
the first alarm will be automatically disabled.
DISABLING THE ALARM
At any time either Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 can be disabled.
Press CLOCK/ALARM KEY. Enter Alarm 1 Display or press
again to enter Alarm 2 Display.
Press AL ON/OFF. The respective alarm on icon will disappear.
Now, the alarm is not set.
HOW TO STOP AN ALARM
An alarm can be stopped but still set so that it will activate at the
same time the following day.
To stop an alarm, press AL ON/OFF. The alarm will be stopped
and will activate again at the same time the next day.
However, if the SNOOZE button is pressed, the SNOOZE
function will be triggered. The alarm will stop for eight minutes
before activates again.
NAVIGATING BETWEEN CURRENT
DATE COUNTDOWN TIME DISPLAYS
Press [MODE] to alternate between the current date and various
countdown timer displays on the second line.
The Current Date Calendar Display
The current date is in day, month, year, and day-of-the-week
format.
MANUALLY SETTING THE TIME AND
CURRENT DATE
If the JM828CD is taken outside of the range of Frankfurt DCF77
radio signal [UK version, Rugby (radio signal MSF)], it will need
to be manually set.
To manually set the clock:
1. Enter current-time display.
2. Press and hold CLOCK/ALARM KEY for two seconds, the
hours will flash.
3. Press or to enter the appropriate hour digit. Each press
will increase the digits by one. Holding down the key, the
digits will change in increments of five.
4. Press CLOCK/ALARM KEY, to advance the minute digits.
5. Again, press or key to enter the appropriate minute
digits.
6. Press CLOCK/ALARM KEY to confirm and advance to the
Calendar Setting display.
7. Proceed in the same manner to set the year, month, current
date, and finally the abbreviated day-of-the-week display in
one of 5 languages.
8. When complete, press CLOCK/ALARM KEY to return to the
current time Node.
Note: For the language display, you can choose among
English (E), German (D), French (F), Italian (I) and Spanish
(S). Day-of-week is in the usual sequence of Monday through
Sunday.
HOW TO SET THE ALARMS
The JM828CD has two alarms, Alarm 1 and Alarm 2. They can be
invoked together or independently. Alarm icons in the upper left
corner of the display indicate if Alarm 1 or Alarm 2 is active. No
icon indicates that the alarm has not been set.
To set an alarm:
1. Press CLOCK/ALARM KEY once to select Alarm 1 Display.
Press again to select Alarm 2 Display. The last selected time of
the alarm will be displayed. If you have never set the alarm
before, the time will be displayed as —:— .

The Start Date Display
Set the start date to any date after January 1st, 1998.
The Target Date Display
The target date shows the date that has been chosen for the target
of the countdown alarm.
Remaining Time [day / hour / minute] Display
The remaining time to a targeted date is shown in the number of
days / hours / and minutes.
Remaining Time [seconds] Display
The remaining time to a targeted date is shown in the number of
seconds.
In a display other than the Current Date Calendar Display, if no
key is pressed for about 8 seconds, the display will automatically
return to the calendar display.
SETTING THE DATE ALARM
The JM828CD is preset to countdown to the Year 2000 /1/1/
2000)
To change the countdown date:
1. In the Target Date Display, press and hold MODE for about 2
seconds. The year will flash. Use or to enter the appro-
priate year.
2. Press MODE, the month digits will flash. Use or to
enter the appropriate month.
3. Press MODE, the day digits will flash. Use or to enter
the appropriate day.
4. Press MODE to confirm and exit to other displays.
Note: The Date Alarm will sound regardless of whether the
daily alarm icons are displayed.
When the alarm is sounding, to turn off, press ON/OFF.
ABOUT THE BAR GRAPH
At the bottom of the LCD is a bar graph. This graph visually
shows the amount of time remaining between the target date and
the start date. When a target date is first set the graph will show
that 100% [FIG A] of time still remains. When half of the time has
passed, the graph will show 50% [FIG B]. As the target date
approaches, the remaining bar graph gets smaller.
Note: If the Start Date is disabled, the bar graph will also be
disabled. To enable the bar graph, both the target date and
the start date must be set.

MAINTENANCE
When handled properly, this unit is engineered to give you years
of satisfactory service. Here are a few product care instructions:
1. Do not immerse the unit in water. If the unit comes in contact
with water, dry it immediately with a soft lint-free cloth.
2. Do not clean the unit with abrasive or corrosive materials.
Abrasive cleaning agents may scratch the plastic parts and
corrode the electronic circuit.
3. Do not subject the unit to excessive: force, shock, dust,
temperature, or humidity. Such treatment may result in mal-
function, a shorter electronic life span, damaged batteries, or
distorted parts.
4. Do not tamper with the unit’s internal components. Doing so
will terminate the unit’s warranty and may cause damage. The
unit contains no user-serviceable parts.
5. Only use new batteries as specified in this instruction manual.
Do not mix new and old batteries as the old batteries may leak.
6. Read this instruction manual thoroughly before operating
the unit.
