ELECTRICAL SAFETY

4
GENERAL SAFETY RULES
Warning! Read all instructions. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may
result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. The term “Power Tool” in all of
the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool or
battery operated (cordless) power tool.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
1) WORK AREA
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the
presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which
may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions
can cause you to lose control.
2) ELECTRICAL SAFETY
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes,
radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if
your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging
the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) Replacement of the supply cord. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be
replaced by an electrician or a power tool repairer.
f) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for
outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of
electric shock.
g) Have your tool repaired by a an electrician or a power tool repairer.
This power tool complies with relevant safety requirements. To avoid danger,
electrical appliances must only be repaired by qualified personnel using original
spare parts; otherwise this may result in considerable danger to the user.
3) PERSONAL SAFETY
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a
power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence
of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power
tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as
dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

5
GENERAL SAFETY RULES (cont.)
c) Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before
plugging in. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in
power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on.
A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result
in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balanceat all times.
This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair,
clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or
long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection
facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these
devices can reduce dust related hazards.
4) POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your
application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate
for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.
Any power tool that can not be controlled with the switch is dangerous and
must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any
adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive
safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools, unplugged & out of the reach of children and do
not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to
operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of
untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools
operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use.
Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with
sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in accordance with
these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of
power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to
be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from intended
could result in a hazardous situation.
5) SERVICE

identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool
is maintained.

Remove the bench grinder and contents from within the carton. Sit the bench grinder down
on a table or bench with the switch side facing towards you. Ensure the bench grinder is
disconnected from the power supply during assembly and when making adjustments.
Refer to diagram on page 1
Eye Shields
1. Assemble eye shields (2) by placing the raised metal sides of the eye shield (1)
bracket to the upper guard (10) aligning the hole in the upper guard (10) and the
slot in the eye shield bracket (1).
2. Feed one of the screws supplied towards you through the hole in the upper guard
(10) and then through the slot in the eye shield bracket (1). Place a flat washer and
spring washer over the threaded end of the screw and secure with a nut.
Tool Rests
1. Assemble the tool rest (4) by placing it over the tool rest bar (5) (which is the part
of the tool that extends closest to you). Ensure the tool rest (4) is centred over the
grinding wheel (3). Raise the larger face of the tool rest (4), 45˚ to the grinding
wheel. The smaller slightly angled piece of the tool rest (4) should be closest to
you and facing down.

ASSEMBLY

7
ASSEMBLY (cont.)
2. Feed one of the bolts supplied through the tool rest bar (5) and then through
the tool rest (4) in the direction of the on/off switch (7). Place a flat washer and
star washer over the threaded end of the bolt and secure by fastening on tool
rest adjusting knob (6).
3. For the tool rest (4) to work effectively, it should be no more than 1.6mm away
from the grinding wheel (3). This will also aid in the deflection of stray sparks.
Note: As the wheel wears with use adjust the tool rest accordingly.
Mounting holes
For extra stability, we recommend securing the bench grinder using the mounting
holes (8) provided on the corners of the base. Secure to a bench or table by using
bolts (not supplied).
Removing/Installing Grinding Wheels
Disconnect the bench grinder from the power supply.
Note: Visually inspect wheels for damage or defects prior to fitting.
1. Remove the eye shield (2) and tool rest from the side of the bench grinder you
wish to change wheels.
2. Loosen and remove the 3 sets of screws, flat washers, spring washers and nuts
that hold the cover (11) over the wheel you wish to change. Remove the cover (11).
3. You will need to use a shifting spanner or socket wrench to loosen the wheel
lock nut. If you are removing the left wheel nut you will need to rotate the nut
clockwise. If you are removing the right wheel nut you will need to rotate the
nut anti-clockwise. Use one hand to lock the wheel in place and the other to
loosen the nut. Remove the nut, outer flange and old wheel.
4. If you did not get paper washers with your new wheel, re-use the old ones. Fit
the first paper washer over the spindle up against the inner flange. Fit the new
wheel. Fit the second paper washer over spindle up against the wheel, then
lastly fit the outer flange and nut back to the spindle. Use one hand to lock the
wheel in place and the other to tighten the nut.
Note: If you are tightening the left wheel nut; tighten anti clockwise until the right
wheel begins to turn. If you are tightening the right wheel nut, tighten clockwise
until the left wheel begins to turn.
5. Ensure the new wheel is secured and rotates freely before proceeding.
6. Re-assemble the wheel cover (11), eye shield (2) and tool rest (4).
7. Switch on the bench grinder and ensure that the wheels are running in
alignment before commencing use.
Abrasive wheels should be discarded when:
1. The diameter approaches that of the driving flanges.
2. The tool rest can no longer be correctly adjusted to the wheel diameter.
3. The wheel no longer grinds efficiently because of reduced peripheral speed.

8
On/Off Switch
Turn the bench grinder on by pushing the On/Off switch (7) to the “I” (On) setting.
Once depressed it will remain on. Turn the bench grinder off by pushing the On/Off
switch (7) to the “O” (Off) setting.
Operation
Turn the bench grinder on and stand to one side while the bench grinder reaches
maximum speed.
Warning! Do not grind with the eye shield raised: always wear safety glasses
when operating the bench grinder.
Guide the work against the tool rest and into the grinding wheel slowly and smoothly
without bumping.
Apply gradual pressure to allow the wheel to warm up evenly. Use only the pressure
required to complete the job.
By moving the work back and forth across the wheel you will prevent grooves.
Wheel Dressing
Dressing a wheel is done to renew sharpness or to true up the face of a wheel.
A build up of metals and dirt will become embedded in a wheel as it is used. Use a
wheel dressing tool (not supplied) to clean wheels. In so doing, it will also improve the
bench grinder’s performance.
Note: New wheels sometimes require dressing to true up their face.
Cleaning and Lubrication
Use only mild soap and a damp cloth to clean the tool. Never let any liquid get inside
the tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid. Self lubricating bearings are
used in the tool and periodic lubrication is not required.
Note: Ozito Industries will not be responsible for any damage or injuries caused by
repairing of the bench grinder by an unauthorised person or by mishandling of the tool.
