hourstestflying,theAddictwasborn.Ouraimwastoproduceahigh
performanceXCwingwellwithintheDHV2categoryandwefeelwe

Theglider'sevolutionsawseveraldifferentplanforms;manyline
plans,anddifferentconceptsofsailtension.Findingtherightbalance
betweenperformanceandthetrademarkOzonehandlingwas
difficult,buthasbeenachievedthroughcarefullymoderatingthe
amountofsailtensiontoprovideacomfortablefeelinginflight,and
bycreatingaturnthatispreciseanddirect,despitethewing'shigh
aspectratio.
TheAddictprovidesasensationofconstantlift:whetherinaturn,
calmair,orturbulence,theglidercutssmoothlythroughthe
atmosphere.Thisisaresultofcombiningahighliftprofileandclean,

Thebaghasbeenredesignedtobecomfortableanduseful(padded
hipbelt,ergonomicandadjustableshoulderstraps).Ithasalarge
volumethatwillallowyoutostoreallyourkit,whilststillbeing
comfortableforhiking.We'vealsoaddedsomepocketsontheside
andonthetop,handyforallthoseeasilylostaccessories.
Thebrakelinelengthshavebeensetcarefullyduringtesting.Wefeel
itisbettertohaveslightlylongbrakelinesandtoflywithawrap
(oneturnoflinearoundthehand).However,ifyoudochooseto
adjustthem,pleasebearinmindthefollowing:
•Ensurebothmainbrakelinesareofequallength.
•Ifabrakehandlehasbeenremoved,checkthatitslineisstill
routedthroughthepulleywhenitisreplaced.
•Whenthebrakehandlesarereleasedinflight,thebrakelines
shouldbeslack.Theremustbeasubstantial"bow"inthemto
guaranteenodeformationofthetrailingedge.
•Theremustbeaminimumof10cmoffreeplaybeforethebrakes
begintodeformthetrailingedge.Thispreventsthetrailingedge
frombeingdeformedwhenusingthespeedsystem.
TheAddicthasbeendesignedwith4risers.Eachriseriscoveredwith
colouredwebbing,thisallowsthemtobeeasilyidentified.
TheA'sareRED.YouwillnoticethattheA'saresplitintwoparts.
Thesmallriserontheback,holdingonlyoneline,isthe"BabyA";it
hasbeendesignedtomakeapplying"BigEars"simple.

Tosetupanacceleratorontheground,askafriendtopullyourrisers
intotheirin-flightpositionwhileyousitinyourharness.Nowadjust
thelengthofthelinesothatthemainbarsitsjustbeneathyourseat.
Youshouldnowbeabletohookyourheelintothesecondary(lower)
loopoftheaccelerator.
Theacceleratormustbeslackenoughtoensurethatthefrontrisers
arenotpulleddowninnormalflight,butnotsolongthatitis
impossibletousethefullspeedrangeoftheAddict.
Extendingthesecondary(lower)loopoftheacceleratorfullywilltake
theAddictthroughapproximatelyhalfitsacceleratedspeedrange.
Shouldyouneedevenmorespeedyoushouldhookyourfeetonto
theupperbar,whichyoucanthenextenduntilthepulleysonthe
riserstouch.
Oncesetup,testthefullrangeoftheacceleratorincalmflying
conditions:ensurethatbothrisersarepulledevenlyduring
operation.Fine-tuningcanbecompletedwhenyouarebackonthe
ground.
Itwillbeinyourharnessthatyouwillenjoyflying...Therefore,we
recommendyouspendthetimenecessarytoadjustyourharness's
differentsettings,whichwillmakeflyingmorepleasurable,because
youarecomfortable.
Theshoulderstrapsandthehipstrapsneedtobeset(makesureyou
donothaveyourshoulder'sstraptootight,oryoumightfindit
difficulttogetseatedafterlaunching).Youridealpositioninyour
harnessshouldbecomfortable,leaningslightlybackwardswithyour
headbehindtherisers..
Thecheststrapshouldbesetat42,44,46cm(betweenthecentres
oftherisers)forsizesS,M,Lrespectively.
EachAddicthasbeencertifiedforadefinedweightrange.We
recommendthatyourespecttheseweightranges.Ifyouare

betweensizesthefollowinginformationmayhelpyoumakea
decisionastowhichsizetobuy:
Ifyouwantbetterspeed,precisehandling,ifyougenerallyflyin
mountainsand/orinstrongconditions,youshouldchosetoflyinthe
toppartoftheweightrange.
Ifyouwantabettersinkrate,ifyougenerallyflyin flatlandsand/or
inweakconditions,youmaychoosetoflyinthebottompartofthe
weightrange.Remember,youcanalwaysaddballastforwhen
conditionsarestronger.
BASICFLIGHTTECHNIQUES
Tofamiliarizeyourselfwiththeglideritisagoodideatoperform
practiceinflationsandgroundhandling.Forpilotsalready
accustomedtoperformancewingsyoushouldhavenodifficulties
flyingtheAddictforthefirsttimeinsuitableconditionsthatyou
wouldnormallyflyin.Forthosepilotsmovingupalevel(egfroma
DHV1-2)thenwerecommendthatfirstflightsshouldbeinsmooth
conditionsonafamiliarsiteandwithyournormalharnesstoget
accustomedtoyournewwing.
LayouttheAddictonitstopsurfaceinapronouncedarc,withthe
centreofthewinghigherthanthetips.Layoutthelinesonesideat
atime.Holduptherisersandstartingwiththebrakelines,pullall
linesclear.RepeatwiththeD,C,BandAlines,layingthechecked
linesontopofthepreviousset,andmakingsurenolinesare
tangled,knottedorsnagged.Mirrortheprocessontheotherside.

YourAddictwilllaunchwitheithertheforwardorreversetechniques.
Whilstinflatingyourwing,youshouldholdbothoftheArisers(main
AandbabyA)oneachside.Onceclippedin,andyouhavegone
throughthetake-offchecklist(above),standcentraltothewingto
ensureanevenandprogressiveinflation.
Whenthewindisfavourable,moveforwardpositively:yourlines
shouldbecometightwithinoneortwosteps.TheAddictwill
immediatelystarttoinflate.Youshouldmaintainaconstantpressure
ontherisersuntilthewingisoverhead.
Don'tpulldownorpushtherisersforwardexcessively,ortheleading
edgewilldeformandpossiblycollapsemakingtaking-offmore
difficultandpotentiallydangerous.
Movesmoothlythroughouttheentirelaunch,thereisnoneedtorush
orsnatchatit.Youshouldhaveplentyoftimetolookupandcheck
yourcanopybeforecommittingyourself.
OnceyouarehappythattheAddictisinflatedcorrectly,accelerate
smoothlyoffthelaunch.
LayoutyourAddictasyouwouldfortheforwardlaunch.However,
thistimeturntofacethewing,passingoneentiresetofrisersover
yourheadasyouturn.NowyoucanpulltheAddictbyitsA-risers.
Oncethewingisoverhead,brakeitgently,turnandlaunch.
Instrongerwinds,bepreparedtotakeafewstepstowardstheglider
asitinflates.Thiswilltakesomeoftheenergyoutofthegliderand
itwillbelesslikelytooverflyyou.Thisreverse-launchtechniquecan
beusedinsurprisinglylightwindstoo.
Practicegroundhandlingalot!It'sgreatfun,andwillgiveyoua
muchbetterfeelforyourAddict'sflightcharacteristics.Itwillalso
improveyouroverallenjoymentofflyingbymakingyourlaunches
easier.

TheAddictisahighaspectratio,performance-orientedparaglider
andisintendedforexperiencedpilotswhohaveagoodfeeland
understandingofparaglidersandactiveflying.
YouwillnoticethegoodfeelingofliftandspeedoftheAddict;on
glidesitremainssolidandwellpressuredeventhroughthe
acceleratedspeedrangeasithasaveryhighresistancetocollapses.
ThehandlingcharacteristicsoftheAddictaretrulyamazing.Wehave
workedalotontuningthewingsothatitturnstightlybutalso
efficiently,astheabilitytoclimbinaturnisveryimportantforXC
andthermalflying.
TogetthemostoutofyourAddictweadviseyoutoconsiderthe
followinginformation.
Flyingat'trimspeed'(hands-up),theAddictwillachieveits'best
glide'speedfornormalair.Youshouldflyatthisspeedwhengliding
downwindorwhentheairisnotexcessivelysinking.
Forbetterpenetrationinheadwindsandimprovedglideperformance
insinkingair,crosswindsorheadwinds,youshouldflyfasterthan
trimspeedbyusingtheacceleratorsystem.Usinguptohalfbardoes
notdegradetheglideangleorstabilitysignificantlyandwillimprove
yourflyingperformance,asyouwillreachthenextthermalfaster
andhigher.AtfullspeedtheAddictisstable;howeverwerecommend
thatyoudonotflyatfullspeedclosetothegroundorinturbulence.
Byapplyingthebrakesapproximately30cm,theAddictwillachieve
itsminimum-sinkrate;thisisthespeedforbestclimbandisthe
speedtouseforthermallingandridgesoaring.
TofamiliarizeyourselfwiththeAddictyourfirstturnsshouldbe
gradualandprogressive.
TomakeefficientandcoordinatedturnswiththeAddictfirstlookin
thedirectionyouwanttogo,thenleanintoit.Yourfirstinputfor
directionalchangeshouldbeweight-shift,followedbythesmooth
applicationofthebrakeuntilthedesiredbankangleisachieved.To
regulatethespeedandradiusoftheturn,coordinateyourweight
shiftandusetheouterbrake.
Tominimizethelikelihoodofsufferingcollapsesinturbulent
conditions,itisessentialtouseactiveflying.
Allgoodpilotsreacttothefeedbackthegliderssendthem,andare
constantlyadjustingtheirspeedandpitchtomatchthemovements
oftheair.Thekeyelementsofactiveflyingarepitchcontroland
pressurecontrol:
Asthegliderpitchesinfrontofyou,usethebrakestoslowitdown.
Equally,asthegliderdropsbehindyou,releasethebrakestoallowit
tospeedup.
Flyingwithabitofbrakeapplied(approx.20cm)willgiveyou
feedbackfromthewing.Inturbulentconditionstheinternalpressure
ofthewingcanchangeandyoucan feelthisthroughthebrakes.The
aimistomaintainaconstantpressurethroughthebrakes.Ifyoufeel
alossinpressureapplythebrakesuntilnormalpressureisresumed
thenraisehandsbacktooriginalposition(thismustbedonequickly).
Avoidflyingwithcontinuousamountsofbrakeinroughairasyou
couldinadvertentlystallthewing.Alwaysconsideryourairspeed.
Thesemovementscanbesymmetricorasymmetric;youmayhave
toapplybothbrakesorjustone.Thesesubtleadjustmentswillkeep
thegliderflyingsmoothlyanddirectlyaboveyouanddramatically
reducethechancesofacollapse.Theseareskillsthatarebestlearnt
byplayingwiththegliderontheground!

TheAddictshowsnounusuallandingcharacteristicsbutasa
reminder,herearesometips.
•Alwayssetupyourlandingearly,giveyourselfplentyofoptions
andasafemarginforerror.
•Oncebelow30metresavoidturningtightlyasthegliderwillhave
todivetoacceleratebacktonormalflight.Ifyouareatlow
altitude,orifyouhitsink,thiscouldmeanyouhittheground
harderthannecessary.
•Instead,allowtheglidertoflyatfullspeedfor your finaldescent
until youarearound1 metreabovetheground.Applythebrakes
slowlyandprogressivelytoslowthegliderdownuntiltheglider
stallsandyouareabletostepontotheground.
•Becarefulnottoflaretoohardatfullspeedastheglidermight
climbagainbeforestalling.Ifthegliderdoesbegintoclimb,ease
offthebrakesuntilitstopsclimbing-butdon'tputyourhands
rightup-thenflareagain,butmoregentlythistime.Keepthe
brakesatmidspeed,standup,bereadytorunandmakesure
youbrakefullyasyouarriveontheground.
•Leanforwardoutofyourharnessbeforetheactuallanding
(especiallyifit'sturbulent),withyourweightleaningforward
againstthecheststrap,andmakesureyourlegsarereadyfor
thelandingandapossiblePLF.
•Choosetheappropriateapproachstyleinfunctionofthelanding
areaandtheconditions.
•Alwayslandheadingintowind!
•Inlightwindsyouneedastrong,longandprogressiveflareto
bleedoffallyourexcessgroundspeed.Instrongwindsyour
forwardspeedisalreadylowsoyouareflaringtosoftenthe•In
strongwindsyouneedtoturntowardsthegliderthesecondyour
feettouchtheground.Oncefacingthewingpullsmoothlyand
symmetricallydownonthebrakestostallthewing.Iftheglider
pullsyou,runtowardit.
•Ifthewindisverystrong,andyoufeelyoumightbedragged,
stallthegliderwiththeCrisers.ThisstallstheAddictinavery
quickandcontrollablewayandwilldragyoulessthanifyouuse
thebrakes.
•Spreadthegliderflatonitstopsurface,thenlaythelinesontop.
Therisersshouldbelaidontheground,atthecentreofthe
glider,nearthetrailingedge.
•Takeawingtipandfolditintothecentreofthewing.Repeat
thisuntilthegliderisfoldedupandapprox.60cm'swide.
•Dothesametotheothersideoftheglider.Alwaysmakesure
thattheleadingedgeiskeptinonestraightline,asitis
importantnottobadlycreasethereinforcingfabricsinthe
leadingedge.
•Don'tfoldtheglideralongthesamelineseverytime;anytypeof
foldingreducesthestrengthofthefabricovertime.
•Pushoutanyremainingairbyflatteningthefoldedwingfromthe
trailingedgetotheleadingedge.
•Foldtheglidersothatthebundleisapproximatelythesizeand
shapeoftheOZONErucksack.Neverrollthewingupasthis
introducesunnecessarystressesintothefabric.
•AlwayspackyourAddictaslooselyasyoucan,aseveryfold
weakenstheclothonanyparaglider.
•Finally,wraptheglidertiearoundthebundleandputitinthe
stuffsack.
•Packingyourgliderusingtheconcertinamethod,keepingthe
mylarreinforcementsflatmayprolongthelifeyourglider.
ADVANCEDFLIGHTTECHNIQUES
Ozonewouldliketoremindyouthatthesemanoeuvresshouldbe
learntunderthesupervisionofaqualifiedinstructorandalwaysused
withcaution.Neverforgetthatproperlyanalysingtheconditions
beforelaunchwillhelpavoidtheneedtousethesetechniques.
FoldinginthewingtipsoftheAddictincreasesitssinkrate.Thisis
usefulforstayingoutofcloudordescendingquickly.Topullbigears
ontheAddict,keepholdingyourbrakehandlesandtakethe
outermostA-line(BabyA)oneachside,thenpullitdownuntilthe
tipsofthewingfoldunder.
Donotusethebrakesotherthanforre-inflation.Fordirectional
controlwhileusingtheBigEars,youshoulduseweightshiftsteering.

Toreopenyourbigears,releasebothbabyAsatthesametime.To
helpreinflation,brakegentlyonesideatatimeuntiltipsregain
pressure.Avoiddeepsymmetricapplicationsofthebrakeasthis
couldinduceparachutalorfullstalls.
Oncethebigearsareinyoucanfurtherincreasethesinkrateby
pushingontheacceleratorbar.
