BrakeLines
The brakeline lengthshavebeensetcarefullyduringtesting.We feel
itisbettertohaveslightlylongbrakelinesandtoflywithawrap
(oneturn ofline aroundthehand).However,ifyoudochooseto
adjustthem,please bearinmindthefollowing:
•Ensure bothmainbrake linesare ofequallength.
•Ifabrakehandlehasbeenremoved,check thatitsline isstill
routedthroughthepulley whenitisreplaced.
•When thebrakehandlesarereleasedinflight,thebrakelines
should beslack.Theremustbeasubstantial"bow"inthemto
guarantee nodeformationofthe trailingedge.
•Theremustbeaminimum of10cmof free play before thebrakes
begintodeformthe trailingedge.Thispreventsthe trailingedge
frombeingdeformedwhenusingthespeedsystem.
IMPORTANT:Intheunlikelyeventofabrakelinesnappingin
flight,orahandlebecomingdetached,theglidercanbe flown
bygentlypullingtherearrisers(C-risers)fordirectional
control.
Risers
Tomakethe glidersimple tofly,we'vedesignedtheRUSH withonly
3risers.Eachriseriscoveredwithcolouredwebbing,whichmakes
themeasy toidentify.
TheA'sareRED.Youwill noticethattheA'saresplitintwoparts.
Thesmall riserontheback,holdingonlyoneline,isthe"BabyA";it
hasbeendesignedtomakeapplying"Big Ears"simple.
TheB'sareBLUE
TheC'sareBLACK.
AcceleratorSystem
Tosetupanacceleratorontheground,askafriendtopull yourrisers
intotheirin-flightpositionwhilstyousitinyourharness.Nowadjust
thelengthofthelinesothatthemainbarsitsjustbeneathyour seat.
Youshould nowbeable tohook yourheelintothe secondary (lower)
loopofthe accelerator.
The acceleratormustbeslack enoughtoensure thatthefrontrisers
arenotpulleddowninnormalflight,butnotsolongthatitis
impossible touse thefull speedrangeof theRUSH.
Extendingthesecondary(lower)loopoftheacceleratorfullywill take
theRUSH throughapproximatelyhalfitsacceleratedspeedrange.
Thisisasmuchspeedasyouwill normallyneedingeneralflight.
Should youneedevenmorespeedyoushould hookyourfeetonto
theupperbar,whichyoucanthenextenduntil thepulleys onthe
riserstouch.
Oncesetuptestthefull rangeoftheacceleratorincalmflying
conditions;ensurethat both risersarepulledevenlyduring
operation.Fine-tuningcanbecompletedwhen youarebackonthe
ground.
IMPORTANT:Forbetterpenetrationinheadwindsyoucanfly
fasterbyusingtheacceleratorsystem.Usingtheaccelerator
decreasestheangleofattackandcanmaketheglidermore
likelytocollapse,thereforeusingtheacceleratornearthe
groundshouldbe avoided.
Wewouldadvise younottousetheacceleratorwhenflyingin
turbulence.Inexperiencedpilotsarerecommendednottouse
theacceleratorsystemuntil theyarefullyaccustomedtothe
glider.Althoughall glidersaredesigned andtestedwithan
acceleratorsystem,most experiencedpilots hardlyeveruse
thefull speedrange,especiallyinturbulentconditions.
Harness
Itwill beinyourharnessthatyouwill enjoyflying...Therefore,we
recommendyouspendthetime necessarytoadjustyourharness's
differentsettings,whichwill makeflyingmorepleasurable,because
youarecomfortable.
The shoulder'sstrapsandthe hip'sstraparetheonestoset(make
sureyoudonothaveyourshoulder'sstraptootight,oryoumight
finditdifficulttogetseatedafterlaunching).Youridealpositionin
yourharnessshouldbesat,with your backleaningslightly
backwards.
The cheststrapshould be setat42,44,46cm(betweenthecentres
of therisers) forsizesS,M,Lrespectively.
Totalweightinflight
EachRUSHhasbeen certifiedforadefinedweightrange.We
recommendthatyourespecttheseweightranges.Ifyouare
betweensizesthefollowinginformationmayhelp youmakea

decisionastowhichsize tobuy:
If youwantbetterspeed,precisehandling,ifyougenerallyflyin
mountainsand/orinstrongconditions,youshould chosetofly inthe
toppartofthe weightrange.
If youwantabettersink rate,if yougenerallyflyinflat landsand/or
inweakconditions,youshould chosetoflyinthe bottompartof the
range.
BASICFLIGHTTECHNIQUES
Tofamiliariseyourselfwiththe glideritisagoodideatoperform
practiceinflationsandsmall flightsonatraininghill.Thiswill enable
youtosetupyourequipmentcorrectly.If inanydoubtpleaseget
adviceandhelp from yourlocaldealerorinstructor.
Preparation
LayouttheRUSH onitstopsurfaceinapronouncedarc,withthe
centreofthewinghigherthanthe tips.Layoutthe linesonesideat
atime.Hold uptherisersandstartingwiththe brakelines,pull all
linesclear.Repeatwiththe C,BandAlines,layingthecheckedlines
ontopofthepreviousset,andmakingsurenolinesaretangled,
knottedorsnagged.Mirrorthe process ontheotherside.

Launching
YourRUSHwill launchwitheithertheforwardorreversetechniques.
Whilstinflatingyourwing,youshould hold bothof the Arisers(main
AandbabyA)oneachside.Onceclippedin,andyouhavegone
throughthetake-off checklist(above),standcentraltothe wingto
ensure anevenandprogressiveinflation.
ForwardLaunch-Nil toLightwinds
Whenthewindisright,moveforward,yourlinesshould becometight
withinoneortwosteps.TheRUSHwill immediatelystarttoinflate.
Youshould maintainaconstantpressure onthe risersuntil the wing
isoverhead.
Don'tpull downorpushthe risersforwardexcessively,ortheleading
edgewill deform andmake taking-off difficult.
Movesmoothly throughouttheentirelaunch,thereisnoneedtorush
orsnatchatit.Youshould haveplentyof time tolookupandcheck
your canopybefore committingyourself.
OnceyouarehappythattheRUSHisinflatedcorrectly,accelerate
smoothlyoff thelaunch.
ReverseLaunch-LighttoStrongWinds
LayoutyourRUSH asyouwould forthe forwardlaunch.However,
thistimeturn tofacethewing,passingone entire setofrisersover
your headasyouturn.Nowyoucanpull theRUSH byit'sA-risers.
Once the wingisoverhead,brake itgently,turnandlaunch.
Instrongerwinds,bepreparedtotakeafewstepstowardstheglider
asitinflates.Thiswill take some ofthe energyoutofthegliderand
itwill beless likely tooverflyyou.Thisreverse-launchtechniquecan
beusedinsurprisingly lightwindstoo.
IMPORTANT:Nevertakeoffwithagliderthatisnotfully
inflated orifyouarenotincontrol ofthepitch/rollofyour
wing.
Practicegroundhandlingalot!It'sgreatfun,andwill giveyoua
muchbetterfeelforyourRUSH'sflightcharacteristics.Itwill also
improveyouroverall enjoymentofflyingbymakingyourlaunches
easier.
InFlightCharacteristics
TheRushshowsnounusualflyingcharacteristics,consequentlyitis
suitableforaverywide rangeofpilot.Inturns,the RUSH issmooth
andco-ordinated,onglidesitremainssolid andwell pressured,even
throughthe acceleratedspeedrange.Ithasaveryhighresistance to
bothcollapsesandstalls.However,togetthemostoutof yourRUSH
weadviseyoutoconsiderthefollowinginformation.
NormalFlight
Flyingat'trimspeed'(hands-up),yourgliderwill achieveits'best
glide'speed.Applythe brakesapproximately30cmtoreachthe

minimum-sinkrate.Toincreaseyourspeedforheadwindglides,use
the acceleratorbarwhichwill giveyouanincrease inspeedofupto
10km/h.
ActiveFlying
Tominimisethelikelihoodofsufferingcollapsesinturbulent
conditions,itisessentialtouseactiveflying.
All goodpilotsreacttothefeedback the gliderssendthem,andare
constantlyadjustingtheirspeedandpitchtomatchthe movements
oftheair.Thekeyelementsofactiveflying,arepitchcontroland
pressurecontrol:
Asthegliderpitchesinfrontofyou,usethe brakestoslowitdown.
Equally,asthe gliderdropsbehindyou,release thebrakestoallowit
tospeedup.
Flyingwithabitofbrakeapplied(approx20cms) will giveyoufeed
back fromthewing.Inturbulentconditionsthe internalpressureof
thewingcanchangeandyoucanfeelthisthroughthebrakes.The
aimistomaintainaconstant pressure throughthebrakes.Ifyoufeel
alossinpressureapplythe brakesuntil normalpressureisresumed
thenraisehandsback tooriginalposition(thismustbedonequickly).
Avoid flyingwithcontinuousamountsofbrakeinroughairasyou
could inadvertentlystall thewing.Always consideryourairspeed.
Thesemovementscanbesymmetricorasymmetric; youmayhave
toapplybothbrakesorjustone.Thesesubtleadjustmentswill keep
thegliderflyingsmoothlyanddirectlyaboveyouanddramatically
reducethe chancesofacollapse.Theseareskillsare bestlearntby
playingwiththe glideronthe ground!
IMPORTANT:Nopilotandnogliderareimmunetocollapses
howeveractiveflyingwill virtuallyeliminateanytendencyto
collapse.Whentheconditionsareturbulent,bemoreactive
andanticipatethemovements ofyourwing.Alwaysbeaware
ofyouraltitudeanddonotover-react.Weadviceyouto keep
holdofyourbrakes.Do notflyinturbulentconditions.
Turning
TofamiliariseyourselfwiththeRUSH your firstturnsshould be
gradualandprogressive.
Tomakeefficientandco-ordinatedturnswiththeRUSH firstlook in
thedirectionyouwanttogo,thenleanintoit.Yourfirstinputfor
directionalchangeshould beweight-shift,followedbythesmooth
applicationofthebrakeuntil thedesiredbankangleisachieved.To
regulatethespeedandradiusofthe turn,usetheouterbrake.
IMPORTANT:neverinitiate aturnatminimum speed(i.e.
withfull brakeson)asyoucouldriskenteringaspin.
Landing
The RUSH showsnounusuallandingcharacteristics butasa
reminder,here aresometips.
•Alwayssetupyourlandingearly,giveyourselfplentyofoptions
andasafe marginforerror.
•Oncebelow30metresavoid turningtightlyasthegliderwill have
todivetoaccelerateback tonormalflight.If youareatlow
altitude,orifyouhitsink,thiscouldmeanyouhitthe ground
harderthannecessary.
•Instead,allowtheglidertoflyatglideatfull speedforyourfinal
descentuntil youarearound1metreabovetheground.Apply
the brakesslowlyandprogressivelytoslowthegliderdownuntil
thegliderstallsandyouare abletostepontothe ground.
•Becarefulnottoflaretoohardatfull speedasthe glidermight
climbagainbeforestalling.Ifthe gliderdoesbegintoclimb,ease
off the brakesuntil itstopsclimbing,then flare again,butslower
thistime.If thisdoeshappen,don'tputyourhandsup!You
shouldkeepthebrakesatmid speed,standup,be readytorun
andmakesureyoubrake fullyasyouarrive onthe ground.
•Leanforwardoutofyourharnessbeforetheactuallanding
(especiallyifit'sturbulent),withyourweightleaningforward
againstthecheststrap,andmakesureyourlegsarereadyfor
thelandingandapossiblePLF.
•Choosetheappropriateapproachstyle infunctionof thelanding
areaandthe conditions.
•Alwayslandheadingintowind!
•Inlightwindsyouneedastrong,longandprogressiveflareto
bleedoffall yourexcess groundspeed.Instrongwindsyour
forwardspeedisalreadylowsoyouareflaringtosoftenthe
impactasyoutouchdown.
•Instrongwindsyouneedtoturntowardsthegliderthe second
yourfeettouchtheground.Oncefacingthewingpull smoothly
andsymmetricallydownonthebrakestostall thewing.Ifthe

gliderpullsyou,thenruntowardsit.
•If thewindisverystrong,andyoufeelyoumightbedragged,
stall thegliderwiththeCrisers.ThisstallstheRushinavery
quickandcontrollablewayandwill dragyouless thenifyouuse
thebrakes.
Packing
•Spreadthegliderflatonitstopsurface,thenlaythelinesontop.
The risersshouldbelaidontheground,atthe centreofglider,
nearthetrailingedge.
•Takeawingtip andfold itintothe centreofthewing.Repeat
thisuntil thegliderisfoldedupandapprox.60 cm'swide.
•Dothesame totheothersideoftheglider.Always makesure
thattheleadingedgeiskeptinonestraightline,asitis
importantnottobadlycreasethe reinforcingfabrics inthe
leadingedge.
•Don'tfold the glideralongthe same linesevery time; anytype of
foldingreducesthe strengthofthe fabricovertime.
•Pushoutanyremainingairbyflatteningthefoldedwingfrom the
trailingedge tothe leadingedge.
•Foldthe glidersothatthebundleisapproximatelythesize and
shapeoftheOZONErucksack.Neverroll the wingupasthis
introducesunnecessarystressesintothe fabric.
•Alwayspackyour Rushaslooselyasyoucan,aseveryfold
weakenstheclothonany paraglider.
•Finally,wraptheglidertiearoundthebundleandputitinthe
stuff sack.
•Packingyourgliderusingtheconcertinamethod,keepingthe
mylarstiffnersflatmay prolongthelifeyourglider.
ADVANCEDFLIGHTTECHNIQUES
RapidDescentTechniques
Ozonewould liketoremindyouthatthesemanoeuvresshould be
learntunderthe supervisionof aqualifiedinstructorandalwaysused
withcaution.Neverforgetthatproperlyanalysingtheconditions
before launchwill helpavoid the needtousethesetechniques.
BigEars
FoldinginthewingtipsoftheRUSH increasesitssinkrate.Thisis
usefulforstayingoutofcloudordescendingquickly.Topull big ears

Wingovers
TheOZONERushisnotdesignedforaerobaticflying.Thelimitis
tightlybankedS-turns,commonlyknownaswingovers.Thesemust
notexceed90degreesofbank.Warning:uncoordinatedwingovers
canleadtolargeasymmetriccollapsesandthereforeshouldneverbe
executedneartheground.
B-LineStall
B-stall isforfastdescentsinemergencysituationsonly.B-stall is
performedbysymmetrically pullingdownonthe B-risers.
Toinitiatethe B-stall placeyourfingersbetweenthe linesabove the
maillonsontheBrisers.Donotreleasethebrakehandles.Asyou
pull theB-linesdowntheairflowoverthe wingisbrokenandthe

ataround6m/s.
Ifyoupull toomuchB-linethegliderwill horseshoeandmovearound
alot.
Toexitthe B-stall the B-risersshouldbereleasedsymmetricallyand
inone smooth,progressivemotion.Thegliderwill resumenormal
forwardflightwithoutfurtherinput.Checkyouhaveforwardflight
againbefore usingthe brakes.
IMPORTANT:ThepitchingmovementonexitingtheBstall is
small butnecessary.Werecommendyoudonotbrakethe
glideruntil youaresurethatthegliderisflyingagain.
TheloadappliedontheBlinesduringthismanoeuvreisnot
verygoodforyourglider,onlyuse itinemergencysituations.
SpiralDives
IfyouturnyourRushinaseriesoftightening360'sitwill entera
spiraldive.Thiswill resultinrapid heightloss.Toinitiateaspiral,
lookandleanintothedirectionyouwanttogo,thensmoothlypull
downontheinsidebrake.TheRushwill firstturnalmost360degrees
beforeitdropsintothespiral.Onceinthe spiralyoumustapplya
littleoutside brake tokeepthe outerwingtip pressuredandinflated.
Safe descentratesof8metrespersecond(500ft/minapprox.)are
possibleinaspiraldive,butattheseratestheassociatedhighspeeds
andG-forcescanbedisorientating,sopayparticularattentionto
youraltitude.
Toexitthe spiraldive,returnyourweightshifttoacentralposition
andthen slowlyreleasethe insidebrake.AstheRushdecelerates
allowittocontinuetoturnuntil enoughenergy islostforittoreturn
tolevelflightwithoutanexcessiveclimbandsurge.The Rushshows
noindicationofremainingneutralinthespiraldive,howeversome
parameterscould interferewithitsbehavioursuchas; wrongsettings
ofthecheststrap(too wide),totalweightinflightoutsideofthe
certifiedweightrange,orbeinginaverydeepspiralataveryhigh
sinkrate.Youshould always bepreparedtopilotthe wingoutofsuch
aspiraldive.Todososmoothlyuseoppositeweightshiftandapply
asmall amountofoutsidebrakeandthegliderwill starttoresume
normalflight.Neverattempttorecoverfromaspiralwith hardor
quick oppositeinputsasthiswill resultinanaggressiveclimband
surge.
IMPORTANT:Spiraldives withsinkratesover8m/sare
possible,butshouldbe avoided.Theyaredangerousandput
unnecessarystrainontheglider.Spiraldivescause
disorientationandneedtimeandheighttorecover.Do not
performthismanoeuvreneartheground.
Incidents
DeepStall /Parachutalstall
Itispossibleforgliderstoresume theirnormalshapeonavery slow
release of theB-lines,butcarry ondescendingvertically andwithout
full forwardmotion.Thissituationiscalled'deepstall'or'parachutal
stall'.
ItishighlyunlikelytohappenonanyOZONEglider,butshould it
happen,yourfirstreactionshould betofullyraisebothbrakesand
theglidershould returntonormalflight.If nothinghappensaftera
fewseconds,reachupandpushtheA-risersforwardsorapplythe
speedsbartoregainnormalflight.
Ensure the gliderhasreturnedtonormalflight(check your airspeed)
beforeyouusethe brakesagain.
IMPORTANT:onlyafewcmsofinputfromyourbrakescan
maintainyourwinginthestall.Alwaysreleaseyourwrapsif
youhavetakenthem!
Deflations
Duetotheflexibleformofaparaglider,turbulencemaycausea
portionofthe wingsuddenlytocollapse.Thiscanbeanythingfrom
asmall 30%(asymmetric)collapsetoacomplete(symmetric)
collapse
If youhaveacollapse,thefirstthingtodoistocontrolyour
direction:Youshouldflyawayfromthegroundorobstaclesandother
pilots,oratleastnottoflyintothem...Asymmetricalcollapsescan
becontrolledbyweightshiftingaway fromthecollapseandapplying
asmall amountofbraketocontrolyourdirection.Thisactwill most
of thetime be enoughforafull recovery ofthe wing.
Once agliderisdeflateditiseffectivelyasmallerwing,sothe wing
loadingandstall speedarehigher.Thismeansthe gliderwill spinor
stall withlessbrakeinputthannormal.Inyoureffortstostopthe
gliderturningtowardsthecollapsedsideofthewingyoumustbe

ACROBATICFLYING
Aspecificstandardofcertificationforaerobaticflyinghasnotbeen
setupyet.Ozone wingsalthoughdesignedtothehighest
specificationsare,therefore,notcertifiedforthistypeofflying.As
Aerobaticmanoeuvresareverydifficultandincorrectlyperformed
manouverscanputabnormalstressesonthe gliderandleadtoloss
ofpilotcontrol,Ozonestronglyrecommendyounotundertakethis
styleofflying.
TOWING
TheRUSH may be tow-launched.Itisthe pilot'sresponsibilitytouse
suitable harness attachmentsandreleasemechanismsandtoensure
thattheyarecorrectlytrainedontheequipmentandsystem
employed.All towpilotsshould bequalifiedtotow,useaqualified
towoperatorwithproper,certifiedequipment,andmakesureall
towingregulationsareobserved.
Whentowingyoumustbecertainthattheparaglideriscompletely
overyourheadbeforeyoustart.Ineachcasethemaximumtow
force needstocorrespondtothe bodyweightofthe pilot.
PARAMOTRING
TheRUSH hasbeencertifiedforparamotoring,pleaseseethe
websitefordetails.Itseasy launchcharacteristicsanditshigh
stabilityatspeedmakeitaverygoodwingforthisactivity.OZONE
providesasoptionalrisersespeciallydesignedforparamotoring:they
areshorterthannormalandare equippedwithtrimmers.
Werecommendyouundertakequalifiedtrainingbeforeflyingyour
wingwith aparamotor.
very carefulnottostall the sideofthe wingthatisstill flying.Ifyou
areunable tostopthegliderturningwithoutexceedingthestall point
thenallowtheglidertoturnwhilstyoureinflatethecollapse.
If youdohaveadeflationwhichdoesnotspontaneouslyreinflate,
makealongsmoothprogressivepumponthedeflatedside.This
pumpingactionshould take about2secondsperpump.Pumpingtoo
shortandfastwill notreinflate thewingandpumpingtoo slowmight
takethe glidertooclose,orbeyond,thestall point.
Symmetricalcollapsesreinflatewithoutpilotinput,however15to
20cmofbrakeappliedsymmetricallywill speedtheprocess.If you
simulateasymmetricalcollapseduringanSIVcourseitisimportant
touseboththeAandBabyArisersandtopull evenlytoinducea
symmetricalcollapse.Use of justArisersorunevenpullingmay lead
tothe glidercollapsingonlyinthe centresectionwiththetipsflying
forwardtomeetinthemiddle,leadingtoanincreasedriskofacravat
occurring.
If yourRushcollapsesinacceleratedflight,immediatelyreleasethe
acceleratortoslowdowntotrimspeedandaftera90degturnthe
canopywill reinflateandreturntonormalflight.
Cravats
Whenthetip ofyourwinggetsstuck inthelines,thisiscalleda
'cravat'.Thiscanmakeyourglidergointoarotationwhichisdifficult
tocontrol.Thefirstsolutiontogetoutofthissituationistopull down
thestabiloline(redlineontheBriser),whilecontrollingyour
direction,youmustbecarefulwithanybrakeinputsnottostall the
oppositewing.
If thisdoesn'twork,afull stall (symetricalorasymetrical) isthe only
otheroption.Thisshouldn'tbedoneunlessyouhavebeentaught
howtodoitandcanonlybedone withalargeamountofaltitude.
Rememberiftherotationisacceleratingandyouareunableto
controlit,youshould useyourreservewhilstyoustill haveenough
altitude.
IMPORTANT:Abadpreparationonlaunch,aerobatic flying,
flyingawingoftoo highalevelorinconditionstoo strongfor
yourability,arethemaincausesofcravats.
