Thrs Character Generator features the following functions
and operations when used in combinaiion with the specif ied
Panasonic Digital AV Mixer.
r Full key board and 48 dot font.
o Various style of types including Roman, Gothic and
Italic.
PREPARATION
Battery lnstallation for Backup Memories.
'1 . Slide the battery cover as shown below.
2. Check the polarity of the batteries and install three
batteries (type AA) in the compartment.
Notes :
(1) Do not attempt to recharge the battery.
The battery is not rechargeable.
(21 Do not make a short circuit between O and O
polarities of the batterY.
Ten pages of character display and various title output
functions such as Scroll, Wipe, Window Wipe, Roll and
Crawl.
Display of date, time and stopwatch with lap time.
3. Move the cover back as shown below.
(3) Do not mix used batteries with new batterres.
Replace three batteries together.
Do not mix this battery with difJerent types of
batteries.

1. CONNECTIONS
Connect the interface plug to ihe specif ied AV Mixer after
turning the power on. When this is done, ihe equipment
starts to operate as follows :
1. "Character Generator" is displayed on the screen for
two seconds.
2. Battery status and backup memories are displayed for
two seconds.
3. The equipment runs in the mode selected by mode
selection switch (85)

WABNING' or "BATTERY EMPTY' on the screen
2. MODE SELECTION
Set the mode selection switch (85) to either the INPUT or
OUTPUT mode.
INPUT MODE:
This mode is intended for causing the title to input'
When the switch is set to the INPUT mode, the title
input job queue state is selected.
OUTPUT MODE:
This mode is intended for causing the title to
aooear on Ine screen. When the switch is set
to the OUTPUT mode, standby state of title display
is selected.
When this switch changed over, the displayed page remains
unchanged. For details of page selection and setting, refer
to Chapter 4-3 and 5-'1 , respectively.
To change over the mode selection swiich to the INPUT
mode from the OUTPUT mode during Roll, Crawl, Date,
Time, or Stopwatch display or during operation, bring the
operation to an end and place the unit in the standby mode,
after which the mode should be changed over to the INPUT
mode.
Similarly to change over the mode selection switch to the
OUTPUT mode from the INPUT mode, bring the operation
to an end, after the mode should be changed over to the
OUTPUT mode,

Before operating this character generator,

instructions and select one of the functions ENGLISH
/ DEUTSCH / FRANQAIS / ITALIANO / E_SPINOL
initially, select the function of ENGLISH When
operating this function, it is not necessary to do above

2. Use key labels supplied as a standard accessory to
modify the character keYs

Femove the key label showing the key number, and put
the label on the key where same number is positioned

3-2. Output Mode
The following keys are used in the output mode

4- 1. Character InPut
1) Character Keys
The characters arranged on the keyboard vary with the specifications of each country. Befer to page 12 through '1 3 for a list
of character keys,
Initially, select the function of ENGLISH.
2) Method of Character lnPut
1, Common lnPut
When the character key is pressed while holding the [SHIFT] key, the upper case of character on the key is displayed on
the screen, and when the character key is pressed after releasing the [SHIFT] key, the lower case of character on the
key is displayed on the screen.
2. Capital Letters Function
To output capital letters, press alphabetic keys while holding the [cAPS] key.

3. Dead Keys
Used to add an acceni symbol to the character on
the keyboard. Even when a dead key is pressed,
neither a character appears nor the cursor moves,
When a character key, to which you want to add
an accent symbol, is pressed, the accent added
characier is displayed.
But when the character key, to which an accent
cannot be added, is pressed, the charac[er
appears without any accent symbol.
See page 12 and 13 for delails of Dead Keys
positions.

4-2. Special Character Input
1. Press the [POP UP] Key. Now, a pop-up window
appears with the character frequently used.
Press the IPOP UP] Key to cancel the desired function
or e12sc lhe non-rrn wrndow.
2. A pop-up window appears at the upper part of the
screen with the cursor positioned at the lower part
of the screen, or it appears at the lower part of the
screen with the cursor positioned at the upper part of
the screen.
3. While the menus are shown, use the arrow keys [ | ]
t J I i-l [' +] to move the highlight bar to a desired
character.
Then press the [ENTER] key to display the desired
character where the cursor is oositioned, and the
pop-up window is now erased.

4-3. Page Selection
'1 . Press the [PAGE UP]key to move the page forward and
press the IPAGE DOWN] to move the page back.
2. When moving a page forward, page 1 comes next to
page 1 0, and when moving a page back, page 1 0
comes next to page 1.
3. When the page is changed, page number is displayed
for 1 second at the upper left of the screen, after which
the contents of that page are displayed.
4-4. Insertion and Overwrite
1. Press the lnsert Key lNSl to mutually set the lnsert
mode and the Overwrite mode.
2 Iniliallv qelee i lhe Overwrite mOde.
3. ln the Overwrite mode, the cursor blinks,
ln the Insert mode, the cursor is placed in the character
inverted state, and it does not blink for that reason.
4-5. Capital Letter and Small Letter
1. Press the Capital Letters Key ICAPS] to mutually set
the Capital Letier lnput mode and Small Letter lnput
mode.
Befer to chapter 4-1-(2) when operating the keyboard
wiih GERMAN or FBENCH specified.
2. lnit;ally, select the small letter input mode.
3. The height of ihe cursor is reduced in the Small Letter
mo.Je 2n.l ihc e rrrs61 becomes taller as before in the
Capitai I etter mode.
4-6. Cursor Movement
1. Press the arrow keys [ ] I I J ] to feed the cursor one
lrne, and press the arrow keys [-] [-] to move the
cursoT one character to the desired direction.

3. Keep on pressing the above keys, moves the cursor
contrnuously.
4. The cursor does not move further from thetop or bottom
or f rom the left or right end of the screen.
4-7. Line Feed
1. In the overwrite mode, press the [ENTEB] key to move
the cursor to the head of the next line.
When the cursor is positioned on the last line, press
ihe [ENTER] to move the cursor to the head of the last
lrne.
2. In the Insert mode, press the [ENTER] key to open a
new line, Now, the sentence after the cursor is inserted
between that position and the next line, and the last
line is deleied.
Execute the above function in the lasi line, to delete
the sentence after the cursor and move the cursor to
the head of the last line.
3, The character which does not fit within end of the
lowermost line on the display, such characters are
inserted at the head of that line.

4-8. Deletion
1) Back Space Key
1, Press the IBACK SPACE] key io delete the
character positioned immediately before the
cursor and to fill the blank with one sentence
after the cursor on the line.
2, This is invalid when the cursor exists at the head
of the line.
2) Delete
1. Press the Delete Key [DEL] to delete the character
where the cursor is positroned and to f ill the blank
with only one space after the cursor. However,
it does not f ill the blank extending over the line
where the cursor is positroned.
2. Press the [DEL] key while holding [SHIFI] key
to delete the entire line where the cursor is
positloned and move one line up. The cursor
returns to the head of the line.
Befer to the key sequence "[SHlFf] f [DEL]" for
further information.
3) Page Clear
1. Press [SHIFT] + IPAGE CLEAR] to erase all the
contents of the currently selected page on the
screen.
2. Press ICTBL] + [PAGE CLEAB] to erase all the
contents of ten pages, and the cursor returns to
the top of the first page.
4-9. Character Size
1. Characters come in f our sizes. Press the
corresponding f unction key to change the display f rom
one to another by toggle operation.

the character size on the selected page.
Press the [H.SIZE] key to change the column of the
character size on the selected page.
Press the [V. SIZE] key to change the row ot the
character size on the selected page.
Press [SHIFT] + ISIZE] to change the row and column
of the character size on the selected line where the

When the [Sl,zLl key is pressed wilh character size
mixed, the row and column of the character size is
changed by toggle operation from the current size of
each character.
Similarly, when the [H. SIZE] key is pressed, only the
column of character size is changed, and when the
[V. SIZE] is pressed, only the row of character size is
changed.

When the character sizes are mixed, press ICTBL] +
[SIZE] to change the row and column into medium size
where the characters exist on the selected page.
When the character sizes are mixed, press ICTRL] +
[H. SIZE] to change the column into medium size where
the characters exist on the selected page.
When the character sizes are mixed, press ICTBI] +
[V. SIZE] to change the row into medium size where the
characters exist on the selected page,
When changing the character size, the tollowing
numbers of character may be displayed in one page.
Numbers below indicated are aooroximate as the
character varies depending up on the chosen
character style, capital and small letters, character
itself, etc.

1, Press the IROMAN NORMAL] key to choose the Roman
character.
2. Press the [GOTHIC NORMAL] key to choose the Gothic
cnaracter.
3. Press the [ROMAN ITALIC] key to choose the ltalic
character.
4. Press ISHIFTI+[ROMAN NORMAL] io choose the
Boman character on the selected line where the cursor
is positioned.
5. Press ISH|FT]+iGOTHIC NORMALI to choose the
Gothic character on the selected line where the cursor
is positioned.
6. Press ISHIFT]+[BOMAN ITALIC] to choose the ltalic
character on the selected line where the cursor is
positioned.
4- 1 1. Color Setting
Caution :
The functions below are not available when used
in combination with the specified AV Mixer in this
moment. The color setting is made by specified
AV Mixer.
1. Color setting becomes valid when this mode is turned
on. lnitially, the color setting is of{.
2. Press the [COLOR] key to change the character color
over the entire screen.
3. .Press [SHIFT]+[COLOR] to change the character color
on lhe line where the cursor is positioned

Usable character colors are eight. These character
colors change in the sequence shown below. Initially,
the color is white,

When the character colors are mixed on the ltne,
character colors change in the sequence shown above
when the ICOLOR] keY is Pressed.
Press ICTRL]*ICOLOB] to turn the character colors all
white whatever color is shown on the screen.
4-12. Fine Adlustment of character position
1. Press [CTRL]+[ J ] to shift the screen two dots
upward.
2, Press ICTBLI+I ] I to shift the screen two dots down-
ward.
Press [CTRL]a[e] io shift the screen one dot
lett.
Press [CTRL]+[+] to shift the screen one dot
right.
5. Initially, characters are in positions requiring no fine
adjustment. Fine adjusted character positions are
saved.
6. Finely adiustable range is * t O dots vertically and * 12
dots horizontally from the initial positlon.
7, Press {CTRLI+tSPACEI to cancel f ine adjustment, and
the character position becomes the initially set position

2. When the [CTRL] + [HELP] keys are pressed, the help
screen appears so that keyboard setting or color key
setting can be changed
Now, setting change can be made by using I J ], I J ],
[+] and [+] keys. After setting, when the [ENTEB] key
is pressed, setting change is executed and the help
screen is cleared,

4-14. Date Display Mode Selection
1. Press [CTBL]+IDATE] to select Date Display mode.
2. Press the [DATE] key to mutually select three display
modes sequentially.
Press the arrow keys t t I I J I [-] [-] to select the
diqnlav nositinn :t the four corners of the screen.
Press [ENTER] key to execute setting change, and the
mode selected is cleared,
When not executing the setting change, the date
display selection mode can be cleared without
changing the setting by pressing the [CIRL] + [DATE]
keys.
3. Initially, the display mode is such as PM 5 : .1 5 : 0.
4. Initially, the display position is at the lower left corner
of the screen.
4-16. Second Adjustment
1. Press [SHIFT]+IADJUST] to select the second
correction mode.
2. When the [ADJUST] key is pressed in this mode, the
time should be corrected to 0 second when it is
between 0 and 29 seconds, but it should be advanced
one minute with seconds adjusted to 0 when seconds
are between 30 and 59.
3. Press [SHIFT]+[ADJUST] or [ENTEF] to return to the
original screen.
4-17. Date and Time Ad justment
1. Press ICTBL]+IADJUST] to select the date and time
setting mode.
2, Use arrow keys [*] [r] to move the cursor to desired
position and arrow keys I I ] [ I ] to adjust the number.
After completing the setting, press the [ENTEB] key to
execute desired setting and return the original screen,
lf setting is not changed, press the [CTRL] + [ADJUST]
keys to return to the original mode from the date and
time setting mode without changing the setting.

5- 1. Page Setting

4- 15. Time Display Mode Selection
1. Press [CTRL]+ITIME] to select Time Display Mode,
2. Press the [TIME] key to alternately select two display
modes.
Press the arrow keys t T I t J I [-] [-] to select the
display position at the four corners of the screen.
Press the IENTER] key to execute setting change and
to return to the original screen.
lf the setting change is not executed, press [CTRL]
+ ITIME] io return to the original screen without the
setting change.

1. Press the IDISPLAY] key to display the title of the
chosen page when the screen is in the standby mode,

numeral key to change the page corresponding to the

5-3. Scroll
1. Press the arrow key when the screen is in the standby
mode, to scroll the title of the selected page in the
direction of an arrow. The title stops in the center of
the screen.
2. Keep on pressing the arrow key when the scteen is
in the standby mode, to scroll the title of the selected
page in the direction of an arrow. The title scrolls out
without stopping in the center of the screen.
3. Press the arrow key when the title is displayed on the
screen to scroll out the title in the direction of an arrow.
5-4. Wipe
1. Press [SHIFT]fArrow keys in the standby mode, to
begin to wipe in the title selected.
The title appears in the same direction chosen by
pressing the arrow key.
2. Press [SHIFT]fArrow keys when the title is displayed
on the screen, to begin to wipe out the title displayed.
The title is erased from ihe same direction selected by
pressing the arrow key.
5-5. Window Wipe
1. Press the IWINDOW] key in the standby mode, to begin
to wipe in the title selected.
The title 2nne2rs f rnm the center of the screen toward
the four corners.
2. Press the [WINDOW] key when the iitle is displayed on
the screen, to begin to wipe out the title displayed.
The title is erased from the four corners toward the
center of the scTeer,.
3. Press ISHIFT]+[WINDOW] keys in the standby mode,
to begin to wipe in the title selected.
The title appears from the four corners toward the
center of the screerr.
4. Press [SHIFT]+[WINDOW] keys when the title is
displayed on the screen, to begin to wipe out the title
displayed.
The title is erased from the center toward the four
corners of the screen.
5-6. Roll
1. Press the [ROLL] key in the standby mode, to
continuously make scroll in the beginning page through
scroll out of the ending page in the upper direction,
2. Press the [ROLL] key when the title is displayed on the
screen. Now, the title begins to roll after erasing the
