1. Foreword
Ensure this manual is read and understood before attempting to service or repair any part
of this bed.
General Warnings, Cautions
Warnings are given in this manual to identify possible hazards in
procedures or conditions, which if not followed correctly could result in
injury, death or other adverse effects.
Cautions are given in this manual to identify possible hazards in
procedures or conditions, which if not followed correctly could result in
damage to the bed or other equipment.
Notes with regards to installation and general use
• If the operation or specification of the bed does not match the descriptions stated, then
the bed is not suitable for use and any defects must be reported to Park House Healthcare.
• The bed must be connected to a mains power supply of the correct voltage.
• Do not connect the bed to mains in the presence of flammable gases such as anesthetic
agents.
• Do not use if any of the cables are damaged or their insulation are showing signs of wear.
• Do not place hands or fingers on or near the moving parts of the bed.
•Do not stretch or squash the cables between the moving parts of the bed.
• Do not roll the bed over the cables.
• Extra caution should be taken when using the bed close to medical equipment which is
operating at high frequencies.
• If a patient is lying in bed without medical supervision the bed should always be placed in
it’s lowest position and the electrical functions of the bed should be locked.
• If a patient may be at risk of entrapment (e.g. disorientation for medical reasons) the bed
should be placed in a flat position and the patient should not be left without medical
supervision.
• Always apply the brakes when the bed is stationary.
• Before operating the bed, make sure that there is no risk of entrapment and that the
patient is positioned correctly to avoid imbalance
• Always use a suitable mattress (size and type). A full range of pressure area care support
surfaces are available from Park House Healthcare.
• Make sure there are no obstacles which will interfere with the movement of the bed (e.g.
bedside furniture).

Notes with regards to service and maintenance
• If the general use, maintenance or servicing of this product is performed in any other way
than what is stated in this manual, it may result in damage to the bed and will not be
covered under Park House Healthcare guarantee.
• Any repair that is made to the bed must be carried out by a Park House Healthcare
approved engineer. Disregarding this requirement will invalidate the guarantee

•Before starting any service or maintenance procedures, ensure that the equipment has
been adequately decontaminated.
• Do not use bleaching agents, caustic/corrosive chemicals, abrasive compounds or cleaning
pads.
• If the handset comes into contact with water, dry the keyboard and keys with a clean cloth
immediately.
• If the correct cleaning and disinfection guidelines are not performed in accordance with
what is stated in this manual, it may result in damage to the bed and will not be covered
under Park House Healthcares guarantee.
Safety and important information
Ultra low height position of only 17cm provides a safe sleeping surface for patients who may
be at risk of falling out of bed. It is also designed to facilitate the treatment, diagnosis and
monitoring of patients in an indoor hospital environment.
Indications:
The bed is appropriate for high dependency patients who could pose a
moving and handling risk and/or whose clinical condition requires that
they are cared for with minimum physical handling.
Patients with some independence may (at the carer’s discretion)
operate the general functions of the bed, whilst under medical
supervision.
Contraindications:
The safe working load of the bed is 180 kgs / 28.3 stones (this must not
be exceeded).
The bed is intended for use by patients who are 12 years and over
If a patient may be at risk of entrapment (e.g. disorientation for medical
reason), the bed should be placed in a flat position and the patient
should not be left without medical supervision (unless medical
personnel advise otherwise).

1. Duties of the user
The user must ensure that the bed is only used in the appropriate conditions and in
accordance with the instructions stated in this manual. The user is also obliged to take all
the necessary precautions in order to prevent any hazards that could occur, if the user,
patient and/or any third party does not follow the guidelines stated in this manual.
Only authorised personnel who have undergone specific training and have read and
understood this manual may operate the bed. The user must also ensure that all persons
who operate the bed have read, understood and apply the instructions stated in this
manual.
2. Product description
The Richmond Ultra Low Bed provides a functional solution for nursing patients who may be
at risk of falling out of bed. For maximum safety the sleeping surface can be lowered to just
17cm from the floor, allowing the patient to be nursed at a safe height and minimising the
risk of falls related injuries.

5. Installation
Transport and storage
Handle with care
Do not drop
Avoid violent impact
The equipment should be stored in a clean, dry and well ventilated area which meets the
following conditions:
Ambient temperature -10 to 50°C
Relative humidity of the air should range from 20% to 90% at 30% non-condensing
Air pressure 700 to 1060hPa
CAUTION! Do not hold the ABS covers or the side rails whilst moving the bed
1. Ensure the equipment provided fits the documentation enclosed
2. Attach the accessories according to the instructions
3. Place the bed in a suitable destination
4. Connect the bed to the mains where there is suitable electric supply. Do not use
extension cables
5. Ensure the bed is in full working order
CAUTION! Ensure there is sufficient distance between the bed and stationary
objects
CAUTION! If the bed does not function correctly, Park House Healthcare should
be informed immediately and the bed should be taken out of service
CAUTION! The bed should be located on a level flat surface. Do not site the
bed on loose carpet, rugs or floor coverings

6. Operations
Breaking and steering
At the foot end of the bed on the lower platform is a braking bar which controls the brakes
on all 4 castors on the bed.
When the brake bar is pressed down fully, all 4 castors will lock and the bed will not move.
When the brake bar is fully lifted, all 4 castors will become free and the bed can be moved in
all directions.

Handset functions
The handset is connected to the nurse lockout by a flexible cable and can be positioned in
various places throughout the bed.
The electrical funtions of the bed are activated via a push of a button on the handset. By
pressing the required button, movement is activated. The movement will automatically
stop when the bed reaches its maximum position, or when the button is released.
Use of the handset can be seized by restricting the control at the nurse lock out, situated at
the foot end of the bed. To lock out the functions turn anti-clockwise and turn clockwise to
unlock the functions.

Autocontour button simultaneously operates both the back rest and the thigh rest
functions.
CPR button –Press and hold this button to return the bed to a horizontal position. Before
using this button, ensure the nurse lock out is in the unlock position.
Battery back-up
The emergency battery back-up is automatically switched on if the bed is disconnected from
the mains power supply. The battery will enable emergency power operation for short
periods of time (e.g. If there has been a power cut).
To ensure the battery is fully charged, the bed must be connected to the mains power
supply at all times during normal use.
If the bed is being used on battery power, a beeping noise can be heard which indicates the
battery is running low on power. The bed should be reconnected to the mains power supply
and allowed to recharge for at least 24 hours.
Maunally operated CPR
The CPR handles can be found on both sides at the head end of the bed. To lower the
backrest in an emergency, push the handle towards the footend of the bed.
At maximum elevation with no patient weight, it may be necessary to push the back rest
down.
WARNING! The back rest can fall quickly, keep hands clear to avoid trapping

Safety sides
The safety sides on this bed are integral to this bed. Locate the sleeves into the cylindrical
mounting brackets. Push in the side rail and tighten the handscrews. Secure the
handscrews by tightening up the top nut.
To lower the safety side:
1. Hold the top bar,
2. Pull the quick release pin downwards,
3. Slide the safety side towards the foot end of the bed,
To raise the safety side:
1. Hold the top bar,
2. Slide the safety side up towards the head end of the bed until it locks into position,
WARNING! Extra care should be taken when lowering the safety sides,
keeping fingers and limbs clear of the moving parts of the bed
CAUTION! Do not use the safety sides to move or lift the bed

Mains cable
UK mains supply cables are provided with a BS1363A 5A 3 pin plug.
When the bed is to be moved, disconnect the mains from the socket outlet and store the
cable so it does not trail and create any hazards.
CAUTION! Ensure the mains lead does not become entangled in moving bed
parts
Extension
The bed can be extended at the foot end to accommodate taller patients.
Make sure the brakes are on before extending the bed. Loosen the hand screws securing
the bed extension then firmly pull the extension to extend the bed. Retighten the hand
screws to fix the bed extension in its ‘OUT’ position.
WARNING! DO NOT pull the extension out any further than the red lines on the
extension.
WARNING! Always install a suitable mattress extension when the bed is
extended

Linen tray
At the foot end of the bed the integral linen tray can be utilised to store bedding and linen.
Pull the linen tray out to store the linen during changing.

7. Maintenance
Decontamination
WARNING! Disconnect the bed from mains power supply prior to
decontamination
WARNING! Protective clothing should be worn at all times
The following cleaning procedures are suggested by Park House Healthcare as being suitable
infection control procedures. Further information is available upon request.
NB - These guidelines are for the bed and its accessories only. Please refer to specific
cleaning guidelines for mattresses.
Clean the bed using a single use cloth soaked in hand hot water and a neutral detergent.
Clean the bed from top to bottom, cleaning the wheels last. Pay extra attention when
cleaning the areas where dust can build up.
The head and foot boards and individual mattress sections can be removed for thorough
cleaning.
Rinse the bed with clean water and wipe dry with disposable paper towels. Make sure the
bed is completely dry before replacing the mattress.
Disinfecting the bed
If the bed is heavily soiled or has been exposed to bodily fluids then it will require a more
thorough cleaning procedure.
Follow the guidelines above and then wipe down using a single use cloth soaked in cold
water and a 0.1% chlorine solution (1,000ppm). If required a 1.0% chlorine solution
(10,000ppm) and cold water can be used.
Rinse the bed with clean water and wipe dry with disposable paper towels. Make sure the
bed is completely dry before replacing the mattress.

CAUTION! Frequent or prolonged exposure to higher concentration
disinfection solutions may prematurely age the bed’s appearance
CAUTION! Do not use phenol based cleaning solutions
CAUTION! Do not use abrasive compounds or pads
If the correct cleaning and disinfection guidelines are not followed as stated in this manual
any damage to the bed will not be covered under Park House Healthcares guarantee.
Note: This bed is suitable for the use in a decontamination chamber or tunnel wash and can
be both jet and steam cleaned if required.
Preventive maintenance
The following checks should be carried out at leat every 12 months.
General
Examine the bed for obvious signs of damage, ensure all joints and welds are in good order.
Ensure all handscrews, nut and any other fixings have been secured and are not absent.
Replace any damaged or missing items.
Examine the flexible cable for any cuts, abrasions, kinks or over stretching. Replace if
required.
Examine the mains cable for any cuts, abrasions, kinks or over stretching. Replace if damage
is found. If the moulded plug has been removed, replace the mains lead for the correct type
(BC1362 5A).
Test all functions of the bed. Replace any actuators that fail to function correctly.
CPR cable
After long use, the CPR release cable may stretch. This could prevent proper operation of
the CPR release. To adjust the cable, loose the grub screw found on the CPR handle and
