HowMWB-4GWorks
The MWB-4Gcombinesapowerfulwirelessbridgeand4Gtransceiverwith
the MWB-AP access pointinaseparatecompact, weatherproofunit. A
wireless bridge actsasaconnectorbetween twonetworks,inthiscasea
ShoreStation Wi-Fior4Gnetworkwhichisconnected tothe Internetand on-
boardcomputers.Afixed Ethernetporton the MWB-AP connectsatofixed
computerand an onboardlocalWi-Finetworkwillconnectvariousmobile
devicessuchaslaptops,iPhones&iPadsusing one ShoreStation account.
The MWB-4G integrated bridge willconnect toalmost anyShoreStation Wi-Fi
networkwithautomaticdegradation to4Gwhen no Wi-Finetworkisdetected.
The MWB-4Gmayalsobemanuallysetto4Gatanytimewhen desired.
Almostanymobiledevicethat’scompatiblewithWi-Ficanconnecttothe
MWB-AP onboardaccesspoint.TheMWB-4Gperformstwotasks
simultaneously.Inordertoconnecttothe Internet, itemploys itstransmitter
and antennatoseekavailablewireless networks.Whenoneisfound,it
requestsan InternetProtocol(IP)address.(AnIPaddress maybe considered
similartoatelephonenumberintelephonenetworks,inthatitinstructs
serverswhereaweb page oran email shouldbe sentinordertoreachthe
computer.)Oncean IPaddress hasbeenreceived,theMWB-4Ghasa
wireless connection tothe Internet. Atthe sametime,the MWB-4Gmonitors
whetheranycomputersareconnected toitsaccess pointoritsEthernetport.
Onconnection,itrequestsan IPaddress ofitsownand the MWB-4Gserves
an address fromitslistandthe computerthen hasaconnection tothe MWB-
4G. Oncethesetwoconnectionsareinplace,anydatathatadeviceattempts
tosend tothe Internet isreceived bythe MWB-4Gand passed onthrough the
ShoreStationwireless or4Gnetworktothe Internet. Similarly,anydata
returned tothatdeviceisreceived bythe MWB-4Gfromthe ShoreStation
wirelessor4G networkand returned through the onboardAccess Point.

InstallingtheMWB-4G
The MWB-4GMarine Wireless &4GBridgeiseasy toinstalland connect.
First, ifinstallingremoteexternalantenna’s,theantenna siteshouldbe
chosen with360°allaround visibilityand reasonableheight, typicallyatthe
firstspreadersorgoalpostforYachtinstallationsoron the superstructure
towerofamotorvessel.If usingremotemounted antennas,the MWB-4G
shouldbe sited tominimisethe antennacablerun. Weemphasizethe
importance ofusingwell positioned,appropriatehighquality,highgain
antennas,coaxialcables,plugsandsplitters,all areavailablefrom
PelagicSystems.Thisisparamountforoptimumsystemperformance.
The MWB-AP shouldbe mounted forgood localaccessreception,normally
aboutthe centreofthe vessel,usuallyportorstarboard.Thesystem
componentsarethen connected using cablessupplied.
Pleasefollowthesesteps:
1.Mountthe MWB-4Gunitonabulkhead orotherconvenientverticalsurface
withtheconnectorsfacingdownwards.Screwdownthe twosupplied “rubber
duck”antennastothe MWB-4Gantennasocketsaslabeled.If installing
remoteantenna’s,run suitablecoaxialcables(suchasLMR400)fromthe
antenna’stothe MWB-4Gunit.It isrecommend inthisinstancethatthe
coaxialcablerun iskepttoaminimumlength,mounting theMWB-4Gcloseto
the coaxialcabinentry.MounttheMWB-AP unitinasuitableposition,as
described above.
2. Locatethe black waterproof connectorat theend ofthe short 2mEthernet
power/datacable. Plugthat end of the Ethernet power/datacableinto
the black connectoron the bottomleft handside ofthe MWB-AP labelled
“PC/POWERLINEINData+PoE”,then screwthe waterproofconnectorover
the cableend.Makesurethecompressionistightaroundthewasherand
cable, taking carenot toover-tighten.

3. Connect the otherendof the short Ethernetpower/datacabletotheport
labelled“Data+PoEOUT”on the Power-over-Ethernet (PoE)Injector.
4.Locatethe black waterproofconnectoratthe end ofthe long 10m(typical)
Ethernetpower/datacable.Plug thatendofthe Ethernetpower/datacable
intothe black connectoron the bottomrighthand side ofthe MWB-AP
labelled“MWB-4GLINEOUTData+PoE”,then screwthe waterproof
connectoroverthecableend.Makesurethecompression nutistightaround
the washerand cable, takingcarenot toover-tighten.
5.Connectthe otherend ofthe long 10m(typical)Ethernetpower/datacable
tothe MWB-4G labelled “PCData+PoE”, thenscrewthe waterproof connector
overthe cableend.Makesurethecompression nutistightaroundthewasher
and cable,taking carenottoover-tighten.
6.ConnectyourstandardEthernetcategory5(cat5)patchdatacable(not
supplied)tothe PowerInjectorportlabelled“DataIN”then connectthe other
end toyourPCEthernet port.
WARNING! Never connect yourPCEthernetport to any port onthe MWB-
4G, MWB-AP orPoEpowersupply,otherthan the PowerInjectorPort
labelled“DataIN”.Anyotherconnection couldresultindamage toyourPC.

7. Connect the PowerInjectortothe vessel12/24vDC systemasindicated on
the injectorlabelusingthe sideterminals.Notetherearetwocommon “VIN+”
terminalsforconvenientlooped cablepowerconnection.
WARNING! The powerinjectormustbe properlygrounded!FortheDC
powerinjector,connectasuitablysized ground wirebetween the ground
terminalon the injectorand the powersystemground.Foran ACpower
injector,connectthe suppliedpowerplugonlytoagrounded three-pinoutlet.

ConfiguringaWindows7Computer
Note! Although no longersupported,configuring WindowsXPisasimilar
process tosetup forWindows7described below.
1.Fromthe StartMenu,selectControlPanel,then Networkand Internet, then
Networkand Internet then Networkand Sharing Center.

2. Lookforthenetworkconnection thatusesyourcomputer’sEthernetport.
Thisisusuallylabelled LocalArea ConnectionorLAN.
Note! Although theMWB-4Gconnectsthrough awirelessnetwork,do not
change the configuration onanyNetworkConnection labelled “Wireless.”The
MWB-4Gconnectsusing acomputerEthernetport.

Click on LocalArea Connection (oritsequivalent)and selectPropertiesfrom
the pop-up menu.

Inthe Propertieswindowthatopens,selectInternetProtocolVersion 4
(TCP/IPv4)andclickProperties.

3. Inthe next Propertieswindow, click the round buttonsnext toobtainan
IPaddress automaticallyandObtainDNSserveraddress automatically.Click
OKtoclosethe Propertieswindows.
