A. Preparatorystepswhichmustbe
completedbytheelectricianbeforelight
fixtureisinstalled;seeFigure1.
1. Verifythatthepoolmeetsthe
requirementsofthecurrentNational
ElectricalCodeandalllocalcodes
andordinances.Alicensedor
certifiedelectricianmustinstallthe
electricalsystemtomeetorexceed
thoserequirementsbeforethe
underwaterlightisinstalled.Someof
therequirementsoftheNationalElectricalCodewhichthepool’selectricalsystemmustmeetarelistedbelow.
a. ThelightingcircuitmusthaveaGroundFaultCircuitInterrupter(GFCI),andanappropriatelyratedcircuit
breaker.
b. TheJunctionBox(or,for12voltmodels,thelowvoltagetransformer)mustbelocatedatleast8inchesabove
waterlevel,4inchesabovegroundlevel,andatleast48inchesfromtheedgeofthepool;seeFigure1.
c. Thelightfixtureandallmetalitemswithin5feetofthepoolmustbeproperlyelectricallybonded.
d. Thewetnichemustbeproperlyinstalledsothatthetopedgeofthelensontheunderwaterlightisatleast
18inchesbelowthe surfaceof thewaterinthepool;see Figure1.
e. ThewetnichemustbeproperlyelectricallybondedandgroundedviatheNo.8AWGgroundconnector
locatedat therearof theniche;see Figure1.
NOTE
The pool or spa electrical system can be verified with a Pool and Spa Electrical Qualification Test Kit.
The test kit is available from Pentair Pool Products. The electrical system inspection using this kit
must be performed by trained and certified personnel.
2. Tobecertainthatthepool’selectricalsystemmeetsallapplicablerequirements,theelectricianshouldalso
consultthelocalbuildingdepartment.
3. UseonlyPentairPoolProductswetnichestoinsureproperbondingandgroundingconnections.
B. Stepstoperformaftertheelectricalsystemrequirementsaremet.
1. FeedcordthroughconduittoJunctionBox,leaving at least 4feetofcordatthelightfixturetocoilaroundthe
light;seeFigure1.This4feetofcordaroundthelightallowsthelighttobeservicedafterthepoolisfilledwith
water.
2. CutthecordattheJunctionBox,leavingat least 6 inchesof cord tomakeconnections.
3. Strip6inchesofthe outer cordjacket toexpose thethree insulatedwires. Becareful notto damagethe
insulationonthethreeinnerwires.
4. ConnectallthreewirestothecorrespondingcircuitwiresintheJunctionBox(blackwiretopower,whitewire
tocommon,andgreenwiretoground)andsecuretheJunctionBoxcoverinplace.
WARNING
Never operate this underwater light for more than 10 seconds unless it is totally submerged in water. Without total
submersion, the light assembly will get extremely hot, which may result in serious burns or in breakage of the lamp or
lens. This may result in serious injury to pool users, installers, or bystanders, or in damage to property.
5. Replacethelightassemblyintonicheandtightenspecialpilotscrew.

6. Fillthepooluntiltheunderwaterlightiscompletelysubmergedinwaterbeforeoperatingthelightformorethan
10seconds.Turnon mainswitchorcircuitbreaker,aswellastheswitchwhichoperatestheunderwaterlight
itself,tocheckforproperoperation.
SECTIONII. Replacinglight fixturein existingpool.
DANGER

accordance with the National Electrical Code and all applicable local codes and ordinances. Improper
installation will create an electrical hazard which could result in death or serious injury to pool users,
installers or others due to electrical shock, and may also cause damage to property.
Always disconnect the power to the pool light at the circuit breaker before servicing the light. Failure to do
so could result in death or serious injury to serviceman, pool users or others due to electrical shock.
A. Beforereplacingthelightfixture.
1. VerifythatthepoolmeetstherequirementsofthecurrentNationalElectricalCodeandalllocalcodesand
ordinances.Alicensedorcertifiedelectricianmustinstalltheelectricalsystemtomeetorexceedthose
requirementsbeforetheunderwaterlightisinstalled.SomeoftherequirementsoftheNationalElectricalCode
whichthepool’selectricalsystemmustmeetareasfollows:
a. ThelightingcircuithasaGroundFaultCircuitInterrupter(GFCI),andhasanappropriatelyratedcircuit
breaker.
b. TheJunctionBox(or,for12voltmodels,thelowvoltagetransformer)islocatedatleast8inches above
waterlevelandat least 4inches aboveground levelandatleast48inchesfrom theedge ofthe pool;see
Figure1.
c. Thelightfixtureandallmetalitemswithin5feetofthepoolareproperlyelectricallybonded.
d. Thewetnicheisproperlyinstalledsothatthetopedgeoftheunderwater light’s lens is at least 18 inches
belowthesurfaceof thewater inthepool;seeFigure1.
e. Thewetnicheisproperlyelectricallybondedandgroundedvia the No. 8 AWGgroundconnectorlocated
atthe rearof theniche; seeFigure 1.
NOTE:

Failure to bring the pool’s electrical system up to code requirements before installing the underwater light will create an
electrical hazard which could result in death or serious injury to pool users, installers, or others due to electrical shock,
and may also cause damage to property.
1. Turnoffmainelectricalswitchorcircuitbreaker,aswellastheswitchwhichoperatestheunderwaterlight.

2. Toremovelightassembly,removethespecialpilotscrewattopoffacering,removelightassemblyfromniche,
andplaceassemblyondeck.
WARNING
Be sure to keep the special pilot screw from this underwater light. This screw mounts and electrically grounds the
housing securely to the mounting ring and wet niche. Failure to use the screw provided could create an electrical hazard
which could result in death or serious injury to pool users, installers or others due to electrical shock.
3. RemoveJunctionBoxcover,disconnectthelightfixturewires,andpullthecordthroughtheconduit.
4. FeedthenewlightfixturecordthroughtheconduitfromthenichetotheJunctionBox.
NOTE:
Depending on the length of the conduit, special tools may be required to pull the cord through the conduit.
5. Leaveatleast4feet of cordto coil aroundthe lightfixture; seeFigure 1.This 4feet of cordcoiled aroundthe
lightallowsthelighttobeservicedafterthepoolisfilledwithwater.
6. CutthecordattheJunctionBox,leavingat least 6 inchesof cord tomakeconnections.
7. Strip6inches of theoutercordjacket from thecordtoexpose the threeinsulatedwires.Be careful notto
damagetheinsulationonthethreeinnerwires.
8. ConnectallthreewirestothecorrespondingcircuitwiresintheJunctionBox(blackwiretopower,whitewire
tocommon,andgreenwiretoground)andsecuretheJunctionBoxcoverinplace.

10. Fillthepooluntiltheunderwaterlightiscompletelysubmergedinwaterbeforeoperatingthelightformorethan
10seconds.Turnon mainswitchorcircuitbreaker,andtheswitchthatoperatestheunderwaterlightitself,to
checkforproperoperation.
SECTIONIII. Replacinga lamponly.
DANGER

result in death or serious injury to installer, serviceman, pool users or others due to electrical shock.
1. Turnoffmainelectricalswitchorcircuit
breaker,aswellastheswitchwhichoperates
theunderwaterlightitself.
2. Youwillneedthefollowingitems.
a. A new lens gasket (p/n 79101600).
b. A lamp, for proper type and wattage; see
Table 1.

WARNING
Replace lamp with a similar type and wattage. Failure to replace lamp with the same type of lamp will damage the light
assembly and may cause an electrical hazard resulting in death or serious injury to pool users, installers, or others due
to electrical shock, and may also cause damage to property.
WARNING
Always install a new lens gasket (part number 79101600) whenever disassembling the light. Failure to do so may permit
water to leak into the assembly which could cause:
(a) an electrical hazard resulting in death or serious injury to pool users, installers or others due to electrical shock; or,
(b) breakage of the lamp or lens, which could result in serious injury to pool users, installers, bystanders, or in
propertydamage.
3. Toremovelightassembly,removethespecialpilotscrewattopoffacering,removelightassemblyfromniche,
andplaceassemblyondeck.
WARNING

4. Disassemblelightfixtureandremovebulb.Removeanddiscardoldgasket;seeFigure2.
5. Installnewgasketduringreassemblyoflight,PentairPoolProductspartnumber79101600.

6. Alignthepilotscrewonthefaceringwiththefirst“E”intheword“BEFORE”onthelensface.Thenalignthelens/
faceringassemblytothehousingbyliningupthepilotscrewwiththearrowonthewarninglabel.
7. Secureringtolightfixture.Sealingscrewsmustbetightenedinthefollowingmannertoassureaproperseal;
a. For lights with chrome or brass face ring:
(1) Partlytighten the screwatthe 12 o’clock position, andthenpartly tighten the screwatthe 6 o’clock
position.Partlytightenthescrewatanother‘opposite’position,andthenpartlytightenthescrew
directlyacrossfromit.
(2) Continuepartlytighteningallscrewsintheabovesequenceuntilallscrewsareevenlyandsecurely
tightened.Recommended20inchpoundstorque.
b. Forlightswithstainlesssteelfacering:
(1) Withthelightrestingonitsbase,alignthefacering,andlens/gasketontopofthelightshellasdescribedin
Step6.ANEWLENS GASKETMUST BEUSED EACHTIME THELIGHT ISREASSEMBLED.
Thelockingleversshouldallbehangingfreelydowntoinstalloverthelensandgasket.Beforeinstallingthe
UnitensionClampbesurethatthegapattheendsoftheclamp
isapproximately1in.apart.PulltheendsoftheUnitension
Clamppastoneanothertoaccomplishthis.
(2) Withthebentendsofthecircularunitensionclamppointing
downspreadthe clamp andplaceitin the “U”recessesof
thelockinglevers.Besurethebentends of theclamp are
locatedbetweenthepairoflockingleversasshowninFigure
3,location A.Checkto seethatthe clampis properly
engagedwithallofthelevers.
(3) Turnthelightsothatitisnowrestingonitslens.Tightenthe
boltandnutuntilthedistancebetweentheendsof the clamp equals1/4 inch or less;see Figure 4.

8. Replacelightassemblyintonicheandtighten
specialpilotscrew.

9. Fillpooluntiltheunderwaterlightiscompletely
submergedinwaterbeforeoperatingthelight
formorethan10seconds.Turnonmain
switchorcircuitbreaker,aswellas the switch
whichoperatestheunderwaterlightitself,to
checkforproperoperation.

Bolt and nut are to be tightened at approx. 45 degrees
from the pilot screw between the tabs on the face ring
as shown above.

1. Pase el cordón a través del conducto hasta la caja de empalmes, dejando por lo menos 1.22 metros (4 pies)
decordónocableenelaccesorio para lámpara paraenrollarlo en lamisma lámpara. (Veala figura 1.)Este
metroveintidóscentímetros(4pies)decordónalrededordelaccesoriodelalámparalepermitirádarleservicio
adichalámparadespuésde que sellene deagua lapiscina.
2. Corte el cordón en la caja de empalmes, dejando por lo menos 15 cm (6 pulgadas) de cordón para hacer las
conexiones.
3. Pele15 cm(6pulgadas) delapunta delaenvoltura externadelcordón paraponeral descubiertolostres
alambresaislados—tengacuidadodenodañarelaislantedelostresalambresinternos.
4. Conectelostresalambresalosalambrescorrespondientesenelcircuito en la cajadeempalmes y fije latapa
delacaja deempalmes ensulugar.
