General Information 2
DESCRIPTION
Myers submersible effluent pumps and submersible
sewage pumps are used for effluent, sewage, and waste-
water removal, and for sump drainage in residential
sewage systems. In commercial and industrial systems, use
for liquid transfer, circulation, dewatering and flood con-
trol. Dry motors are 60 Hz, 4/10 through 1 HP, 115 or 230
volt single phase. Model DSW100M4 is 460V 3 phase.
Models deliver from 27 to 42 feet of head with maximum
capacities ranging from 92 to 145 GPM. Single phase
models have built-in thermal overload protection. Three-
phase model requires external overload.
Pumps are entirely constructed of stainless steel, including
self-cleaning cast stainless steel impeller. Oil chamber pro-
vides seal protection. 1-1⁄2" and 2" solids handling capa-
bility (see “Specifications”). NBR 70 rubber lip seal with
special sand guard V-ring for better sand handling. 2" dis-
charge elbow included.
UNPACKING AND INSPECTION
Handle with care. Check items received against packing
list to be sure that all equipment has been received.
Inspect for shipping damage. If found, file claim with carri-
er immediately.

NOTE: For continuous duty, pump must be fully submerged in liquid with a maximum temperature of 130° F (54° C).

Vent sewage or septic tank according to local codes.
In the United States, do not install pump in any location
classified as hazardous by National Electrical Code,
ANSI/NFPA 70-1984.
Pump normally runs hot. To avoid burns when servicing
pump, allow it to cool for 20 minutes after shut-down
before handling it.
Do not run pump dry. Dry running can overheat pump
and will void warranty.
Pump is permanently lubricated. No oiling or greasing is
required in normal operation. For overhaul, see instruc-
tions under "Service".
Not for use with salt water or brine.
Hazardous voltage. Can shock, burn, or
cause death.
During operation the pump is in water. To avoid fatal
shocks, proceed as follows if pump needs servicing:
A. Ground pump according to all applicable codes and
ordinances.
B. Disconnect power to outlet box or circuit breaker
before servicing.
C. To reduce risk of electric shock, take care when chang-
ing fuses or resetting circuit breaker. Do not stand in
water when working on control box or with circuit
breaker.
Single Phase Pumps:
D. When using cord and plug, plug into a grounded out-
let only. When wiring to a system control, connect
pump ground lead to system ground.
Three Phase Pumps:
Risk of electrical shock. Do not
remove cord and strain relief. Do not connect con-
duit to pump.
E. Three phase pumps are intended for permanent con-
nection only. Provide strain relief at control box for
power supply cord connection to box. All control
components must be UL listed and suitable for end
use application. Only qualified personnel should
install the pump and associated control equipment.
INSTALLATION
Risk of electrical shock. Can burn or kill. Do
not lift pump by power cord. See “Lifting Pump” and
Figure 1.

NOTE: Install pump on a hard, level surface (cement,
asphalt, etc.). Never place pump directly on earth, clay, or
gravel surfaces. Basin must be at least 18" in diameter and
30" deep.
Risk of electrical shock. Can burn or kill. Do
not lift pump by power cord.
Lifting Pump
1. Use handle on top of pump for all lifting/lowering of
pump. Disconnect power to pump before doing any
work on pump or attempting to remove pump from
sump.
2. Attempting to lift or support pump by power cord can
damage cord and cord connections.
3. Cord may pull apart, exposing bare wires with possi-
bility of fire or electrical shock.
4. Lifting or supporting pump by power cord will void
warranty.

Piping
Piping must not be smaller than pump discharge.
The rate of flow in the discharge pipe must keep any
solids present in suspension in the fluid. To meet minimum
flow requirements of 2 feet per second (61 cm/sec) in dis-
charge line, size pipe as follows:
Use a 2" (51 mm) minimum check valve in pump dis-
charge to prevent backflow of liquid into sump basin. The
check valve should be a free flow valve that will easily
pass solids. Be sure check valve installation complies with
local codes.
NOTE: For best performance of check valve when han-
dling solids, do not install it with discharge more than 45°
above the horizontal. Do not install check valve in a verti-
cal position as solids may settle in valve and prevent
opening on startup.
Drill a 3/16" (5 mm) hole in discharge pipe about 1 to 2"
(25-50 mm) above pump discharge connection (but below
check valve) to prevent airlocking the pump.
ELECTRICAL
Risk of electrical shock and fire. Be sure that
power supply information (Voltage/Hertz/Phase) on pump
motor nameplate matches incoming power supply exactly.
Install pump according to all electrical codes that apply.
Hazardous voltage. Can shock, burn, or
cause death. When installing, operating, or servicing this
pump, follow safety instructions below.
1. DO NOT splice the power cord, submerge electrical
cord plug, or use extension cords.
2. DO NOT handle or service pump while it is connect-
ed to power supply.
3. DO NOT operate pump unless it is properly grounded.
Wire 3-phase pump directly into grounded terminal
block in automatic float or pump controller box.
Power cord on single-phase units is a 3-wire conductor
with 3-prong grounding-type plug. Do not modify cord
or plug. When using with plug-in receptacle, plug
pump into a 3-wire, grounded, grounding-type recep-
tacle only. Connect pump according to all applicable
codes.
For automatic operation, plug or wire pump into an auto-
matic float switch or pump controller. For continuous
operation, plug directly into an electrical outlet or wire
directly into switch box. Connect pump to its own individ-
ual branch circuit with nothing else on the circuit. For
fuse/circuit breaker requirements see “Specifications” on
Page 2.
Risk of fire or explosion if 3-phase pump
runs backward in septic tank. Running this pump back-
wards can cause the motor to burn out and may cause
an explosion if fumes are present.
Check rotation before installing this pump in the tank. To
do this, momentarily connect the pump to the power sup-
ply (“bump” it) while looking into the discharge port with
a flashlight. The rotation should match the arrow on the
rotation label on the pump.
NOTE: This pump’s impeller design causes it to draw
more amps running backwards than running forward. To
check rotation on an installed pump, start the pump for 5
seconds or less and take an amp reading on one leg. Stop
the pump, reverse any two motor leads, and repeat. The
connection giving the lower amp reading is correct.
OPERATION
In single-phase units, an automatic overload protector in
the motor will protect motor from burning out due to over-
heating/overloading. When motor cools down, protector
automatically resets and starts motor. Three-phase units
require external overload protection.
If overload trips frequently, check for cause. It could be a
stuck impeller, wrong/low voltage, or electrical failure in
motor. If an electrical failure in the motor is suspected,
have it serviced by a competent repairman.
NOTE: Do not allow pump to run in a dry sump. It will
void the warranty and may damage the pump.
Pump is permanently lubricated. No oiling or greasing is
required.

Maintenance 5
MAINTENANCE
Hazardous voltage. Can shock, burn, or
cause death. Before removing pump from basin for ser-
vice, always disconnect electrical power to pump and
control switch.
After removing basin cover and necessary discharge pip-
ing, lift pump out of basin.
Risk of electrical shock. Can burn or kill. Do
not lift pump by power cord. See “Lifting Pump” and
Figure 1, on Page 3.
Place pump in an area where it can be cleaned thorough-
ly. Remove all scale and deposits on the pump.
Submerge complete pump in a disinfectant solution
(chlorox or similar strength chlorine solution) for at least
one hour before disassembling pump.
The pump seal plate contains a special lubricating oil
which should be kept clean and free of water at all times.
Seal and Impeller Replacement
To replace the impeller, follow steps 1 through 3. Reverse
the steps to reassemble the pump.
To replace the mechanical shaft seal, follow Steps 1
through 9; reverse the steps to reassemble the pump.
To replace the oil seal, follow Steps 1 through 11.
See the Repair Parts Illustrations, Pages 6, 8 and 10, for
part identification.
1. Disconnect the power to the pump.
2. Remove the base, diffuser, and gasket (DE40PC1 and
DE50PC1) or O-Ring (DSW40P1 through
DSW100M4).
NOTE: Models DE40PC1 and DE50PC1 have the dif-
fuser in one piece with the base. For Models
DSW40P1 through DSW100M4, the diffuser is sepa-
rate from the base.
3. Remove the impeller nut and washer; pull the impeller
off of the shaft.
4. Remove the sand shield and washer from the shaft.
5. Remove the drain plug and drain the oil out of the seal
chamber.
6. Remove the rotating half of the mechanical seal from
the pump shaft.
7. Remove the rotor/shaft assembly from the pump body.
8. Carefully tap the shaft out of the seal plate (DE40PC1
and DE50PC1) or pump body (DSW40P1 through
DSW100M4).
9. Remove the stationary half of the mechanical seal from
the seal plate (DE40PC1 and DE50PC1) or pump body
(DSW40P1 through DSW100M4).
10. Slide the lower bearing holder off of the shaft and pop
the oil seal out of the lower bearing holder.
11. Reverse steps 1 through 10 to reassemble the pump.
Use 40 grams (1.6 ounces) of U197-8A oil to refill the
oil chamber.
Capacitor Change
1. Disconnect the power to the pump.
2. Remove the motor cover from the top of the motor
assembly.
3. Remove the plastic capacitor box cover.
4. Remove the screw holding the capacitor tie-down
strap.
5. Remove the capacitor and cut the wires running to it.
6. Strip the wires for the new capacitor and install the
new capacitor. See Table 2 for capacitor specifications.
7. Reverse steps 1 through 4 for reassembly. Connect the
wires with the correct size wire nuts.
Cord Replacement
1. Disconnect the power to the pump.
2. Remove the motor cover from the top of the motor
assembly.
3. Cut the cord wires in the top of the motor assembly.
4. Remove the cord clamp locking nut and pull the cord
out of the motor cover.
5. Insert the new cord through the hole in the motor
cover and clamp it with the locking nut.
6. Clip the motor leads as close as possible to the wire
nuts, strip the new cord leads and the motor leads, and
connect the new cord. Add new wire nuts.
7. Replace the capacitor cover, the motor cover, and the
motor cover O-Ring.

Only qualified personnel should electrical-
ly test pump motor.

MYERS LIMITED WARRANTY
During the time periods and subject to the conditions hereinafter set forth, F.E. Myers will repair or replace to the original user or consumer any portion of your
new MYERS product which proves defective due to defective
materials or workmanship of MYERS. Contact your nearest Authorized MYERS Dealer for warranty service. At all times MYERS shall have and possess the sole
right and option to determine whether to repair or replace defective equipment, parts, or components. Damage due to lightning or conditions beyond the con-
trol of MYERS is NOT COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY. WARRANTY PERIOD
Pumps: 12 months from date of installation or 18 months from date of manufacture.
Tanks: 5 years from date of purchase.
Labor, etc. Costs: MYERS shall IN NO EVENT be responsible or liable for the cost of field labor or other charges incurred by any customer in removing and/or
re-affixing any MYERS product, part or component thereof.
THIS WARRANTY WILL NOT APPLY: (a) to defects or malfunctions resulting from failure to properly install, operate or maintain the unit in accordance with
printed instructions provided; (b) to failures resulting from abuse, accident or negligence; (c) to normal maintenance services and the parts used in connection
with such service; (d) to units which are not installed in accordance with applicable local codes, ordinances and good trade practices; or (e) unit is used for pur-
poses other than for what it was designed and manufactured, and (f) if three-phase submersible motors are installed on a single-phase power supply using a
phase converter or if three-phase power is supplied by only two transformers, making an open Delta system.
RETURN OR REPLACED COMPONENTS: Any item to be replaced under this Warranty must be returned to MYERS in Ashland, Ohio, or such other place as
MYERS may designate, freight prepaid.
PRODUCT IMPROVEMENTS: MYERS reserves the right to change or improve its products or any portions thereof without being obligated to provide such a
change or improvement for units sold and/or shipped prior to such a change or improvement.
