DESCRIPTION
Corrosion resistant convertible jet pumps (Models 3PL,
5PL, 7PL, 10PL, 10PLS11C and 15PLS11C) are adaptable
to either shallow or deep well installations. A shallow well
ejector (purchase separately) is used for suction lifts of
25 feet or less and can be used with drilled (cased) wells,
driven well points, and cisterns or lakes. With a deep well
ejector installed, the convertible jet pump can be used on
wells up to 110’ deep (depending on ejector package used).
Pump is equipped with a capacitor start motor and a 30-50
psi preset pressure switch.
UNPACKING
Open carton and remove pump. Check for loose, missing, or
damaged parts.

Electrical Safety
Hazardous voltage. Can shock, burn, or
cause death. Ground pump before connecting to power
supply. Disconnect power before working on pump, motor,
or tank.
Capacitor voltage may be hazardous. To
discharge motor capacitor, hold insulated handle screwdriver
BY THE HANDLE and short capacitor terminals together. Do
not touch metal screwdriver blade or capacitor terminals. If
in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
Wire motor for correct voltage. See “Electrical” section
of this manual, motor nameplate, and diagram inside motor
junction box cover.
Ground motor before connecting to power supply.
Meet United States National Electrical Code, Canadian
Electrical Code, and local codes for all wiring.
Follow wiring instructions in this manual and in motor
junction box when connecting motor to power lines.
General Safety
Hazardous pressure! Do not run pump
against closed discharge. Release all pressure on system
before working on any component.
Do not touch an operating motor. Modern
motors are designed to operate at high temperatures. To
avoid burns when servicing pump, allow it to cool for 20
minutes after shut-down before handling.
Do not allow pump or any system component to freeze. To
do so will void warranty.
Pump water only with this pump.
Periodically inspect pump and system components.
Wear safety glasses at all times when working on pumps.
Keep work area clean, uncluttered and properly lighted;
properly store all unused tools and equipment.
Keep visitors at a safe distance from the work areas.
Pump body may explode if used as a
booster pump unless relief valve capable of passing full
pump flow at 75 psi is installed.

INSTALLATION
Replacing An Existing Pump
DEEP WELL
Hazardous voltage. Disconnect power to
pump before working on pump or motor.
1. Drain and remove the old pump. Check pipe for scale,
lime, rust, etc., and replace it if necessary.
2. If your old pump has the suction pipe (the larger port
– See Figure 1) below the drive port, you will need to
install flexible pipe between the well head and the pump
so that the connection will be correct (See Figure 2).
NOTE: Your old ejector (in the well) may not be properly
matched to your new pump. If the pump does not perform
properly, we recommend that you install a Berkeley ejector
package to match your pump and well.
3. Install the pump in the system. Make sure that all pipe
joints in the suction pipe are air-tight as well as water
tight. If the suction pipe can suck air, the pump will not
be able to pull water from the well.
4. Adjust the pump mounting height so that the plumbing
connections do not put a strain on the pump body.
Support the pipe so that the pump body does not take
the weight of piping or fittings.
SHALLOW WELL
Hazardous voltage. Disconnect power to
pump before working on pump or motor.
1. Drain and remove the old pump. Check the old pipe for
scale, lime, rust, etc., and replace it if necessary.
2. Install Berkeley ejector kit Model BK4875 (kits are sold
separately). Follow the instructions provided with the kit.
Be sure to align the venturi with the top hole on the front
of the pump (See Figure 3).
NOTE: Always replace the ejector when replacing the pump
in a shallow well installation.
3. Install the pump in the system. Make sure that all pipe
joints in the suction pipe are air-tight as well as water
tight. If the suction pipe can suck air, the pump will not
be able to pull water from the well.
4. Adjust the pump mounting height so that the plumbing
connections do not put a strain on the pump body.
Support the pipe so that the pump body does not take
the weight of piping or fittings.

New Shallow Well, Driven Point Installation
(Figure 4)
1. Install Berkeley ejector kit BK4875 (kits are sold
separately). Follow the instructions provided with the
kit. Align the venturi with the top hole on the front of the
pump (See Figure 3).
2. Drive the well, using “drive couplings” and a “drive cap”.
“Drive fittings” are threaded all the way through and
allow the pipe ends to butt against each other so that the
driving force of the maul is carried by the pipe and not
by the threads. The ordinary fittings found in hardware
stores are not threaded all the way through the fitting
and can collapse under impact. “Drive fittings” are also
smoother than standard plumbing fittings, making ground
penetration easier.
3. Mount the pump as close to the well as possible.
4. Use the fewest possible fittings (especially elbows) when
connecting the pipe from the well point to the pump
suction port. The suction pipe should be at least as large
as the suction port on the pump (include a check valve
– See Figure 4). Support the pipe so that there are no
dips or sags in the pipe, so it doesn’t strain the pump
body, and so that it slopes slightly upward from the well
to the pump (high spots can cause air pockets which
can air lock the pump). Seal the suction pipe joints with
PTFE pipe thread sealant tape approved for use on PVC.
Joints must be air- and water-tight. If the suction pipe
can suck air, the pump cannot pull water from the well.
If one well point does not supply enough water, consider
connecting two or three well points to one suction pipe.
Cased Well Installation, 2” or Larger
Casing (Figure 5)
1. Install Berkeley ejector kit BK4875 (kits are sold
separately). Follow the instructions provided with the
kit. Align the venturi with the top hole on the front of the
pump (See Figure 3).
2. Mount the pump as close to the well as possible.
3. Assemble the foot valve, strainer, and well pipe (See
Figure 5). Make sure that the foot valve works freely.
4. Lower the pipe into the well until the strainer is five feet
above the bottom of the well. It should also be at least
10 feet below the well’s water level while the pump is
running in order to prevent the pump from sucking air.
Install a sanitary well seal.
5. Install a priming tee, priming plug, and suction pipe to the
pump (See Figure 5). Connect the pipe from the well to
the pump suction port, using the fewest possible fittings
(especially elbows) as fittings increase friction in the
pipe. The suction pipe should be at least as large as the
suction port on the pump. Use PTFE pipe thread sealant
tape on threaded pipe joints. Support the pipe so that
there are no dips or sags in the pipe, so it doesn’t strain
the pump body, and so that it slopes slightly upward from
the well to the pump (high spots can cause air pockets
which can air lock the pump). Seal the suction pipe joints
with PTFE pipe thread sealant tape. Joints must be air
and water-tight. If the suction pipe can suck air, the pump
cannot pull water from the well.

INSTALLATION FOR SURFACE WATER
1. Install Berkeley ejector kit BK4875 (sold separately).
Follow the instructions provided with the kit. Align the
venturi with the top hole on the front of the pump (See
Figure 6).
2. The pump should be installed as close to the water as
possible, with the fewest possible fittings (especially
elbows) in the suction pipe. The suction pipe should be
at least as large as the suction port on the pump.
3. Assemble a foot valve and suction pipe (See Figure 7).
Make sure that the foot valve works freely. Use PTFE
pipe thread sealant tape on threaded pipe joints. Protect
the foot valve assembly from fish, trash, etc, by installing
a screen around it (See Figure 7).
4. Lower the pipe into the water until the strainer is five feet
above the bottom. It should also be at least 10 feet below
the water level while the pump is running in order to
prevent the pump from sucking air.
5. Install a priming tee, priming plug, and suction pipe to the
pump (See Figure 7). Support the pipe so that there are
no dips or sags in the pipe, so it doesn’t strain the pump
body, and so that it slopes slightly upward from the well
to the pump (high spots can cause air pockets which can
air lock the pump). Seal the suction pipe joints with PTFE
pipe thread sealant tape. Joints must be air and water-
tight. If the suction pipe can suck air, the pump cannot
pull water from the well.
New Deep Well
4” Or Larger Well (Figure 8)
1. Assemble Berkeley ejector kit BK4800 (sold separately).
Follow the instructions included with the kit in order to
match the nozzle and venturi to your well conditions.
2. Mount the pump as close to the well as possible.
3. Connect two pipes (1” drive, 1-1⁄4” suction) to the ejector
and lower the ejector into the well until it is five feet from
the bottom. It should also be at least 10 feet below the
well’s water level while the pump is running in order to
prevent the pump from sucking air.
4. Install a sanitary well seal and connect the ejector piping
to the pump. Flexible poly pipe is recommended for ease
of installation. However, use steel nipples through the
well seal as tightening the well seal on plastic pipe can
crush the pipe.
5. Support the pipe so that there are no dips or sags in
the pipe, so it doesn’t strain the pump body, and so
that it slopes slightly upward from the well to the pump
(high spots can cause air pockets which can air lock
the pump). Seal the suction pipe joints with PTFE pipe
thread sealant tape. Joints must be air and water-tight. If
the suction pipe can suck air, the pump cannot pull water
from the well.

New Deep Well 2” Well (Figure 9)
1. Mount the pump as close to the well as possible.
2. Assemble Berkeley ejector kit BK4840 (sold separately),
well piping, and well head adapter according to the
instructions provided with the ejector package (See
Figure 9.) Use galvanized drop pipe with turned
couplings to allow proper flow. Follow the instructions
included with the kit in order to match the nozzle and
venturi to your well conditions.
3. Run two pipes (one smaller drive pipe, one larger suction
pipe) from the well to the pump. Support the pipe so that
there are no dips or sags in the pipe, so it doesn’t strain
the pump body, and so that it slopes slightly upward from
the well to the pump (high spots can cause air pockets
which can air lock the pump). Seal the suction pipe joints
with PTFE pipe thread sealant tape. Joints must be air
and water-tight. If the suction pipe can suck air, the pump
cannot pull water from the well.
Discharge Pipe and Pressure Tank
Connections
PRE-CHARGE TANK CONNECTION (FIGURE 10)
1. Install a close nipple and a tee in the pump discharge
port (See Figure 10). The pipe size must be at least as
large as the discharge port. Run a pipe or reinforced
hose from one arm of the tee to the port on the pre-
charged tank.
2. Install a second close nipple and tee with a relief valve in
the tee.
3. Connect the other end of the second discharge tee to
your plumbing system.
4. Check the pre-charge of air in the tank with an ordinary
tire gauge. The pre-charge should be 2 psi less than the
cut-in setting of the pump’s pressure switch. The pre-
charge is measured when there is no water pressure
in the tank. Your new pump has a 30/50 psi switch, so
adjust the tank pre-charge pressure to 28 psi.
STANDARD TANK CONNECTION (FIGURE 11)
1. Install a close nipple and a tee in the pump discharge
port. Mount a relief valve in one arm of the tee.
2. Install a second close nipple and tee in the open arm of
the first tee. Put a priming plug in one arm of the second
tee.
3. Run a pipe from the open arm of the second tee to the
inlet port of your tank. The pipe size must be at least as
large as the pump discharge port.
4. Remove the 1/8” NPT pipe plug from the pump Air
Volume Control (AVC) port (See Figure 11). Run tubing
from the pump’s AVC port to the port on the AVC
mounted on the tank. See instructions provided with tank
and AVC for details.

Hazardous voltage. Disconnect power before
working on pump, motor, pressure switch, or wiring.
Your Motor Terminal Board (under the motor end cover) and
Pressure Switch look like one of those shown above. Convert
to 115 Volts as shown. Do not change motor wiring if line
voltage is 230 Volts or if you have a single voltage motor.
Connect power supply as shown for your type of switch and
your supply voltage.
Hazardous voltage. Can shock, burn, or
kill. Connect ground wire before connecting power supply
wires. Use the wire size (including the ground wire) specified
in the wiring chart (Page 10). If possible, connect the pump
to a separate branch circuit with no other appliances on it.
Explosion hazard. Do not ground to a gas
supply line.
Wiring Connections
Fire hazard. Incorrect voltage can cause a
fire or seriously damage the motor and voids the warranty.
The supply voltage must be within ±10% of the motor
nameplate voltage.
NOTE: Dual-voltage motors are factory wired for 230 volts. If
necessary, reconnect the motor for 115 volts, as shown. Do
not alter the wiring in single voltage motors.
Install, ground, wire, and maintain your pump in compliance
with the United States National Electrical Code (NEC) or the
Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), as applicable, and with all
local codes and ordinances that apply. Consult your local
building inspector for code information.
Connection Procedure
1. Connect the ground wire first as shown in Figure 12. The
ground wire must be a solid copper wire at least as large
as the power supply wires.
2. There must be a solid metal connection between the
pressure switch and the motor for motor grounding
protection. If the pressure switch is not connected to the
motor, connect the green ground screw in the switch to
the green ground screw under the motor end cover. Use
a solid copper wire at least as large as the power supply
wires.
3. Connect the ground wire to a grounded lead in a service
panel, to a metal underground water pipe, to a metal
well casing at least ten feet (3M) long, or to a ground
electrode provided by the power company or the hydro
authority.
4. Connect the power supply wires to the pressure switch
as shown in Figure 12.

ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION

OPERATION
Preparing to Start the Pump – Deep Well
Never run pump dry. Running pump without
water may cause pump to overheat, damaging seal and
possibly causing burns to persons handling pump. Fill pump
with water before starting.
Never run pump against closed discharge.
To do so can boil water inside pump, causing hazardous
pressure in unit, risk of explosion and possibly scalding
persons handling pump.
1. Open the control valve as far as possible (See Figure
13). Then remove the priming plug from the pump and fill
the pump, fill all piping between the pump and the well,
and make sure that all piping in the well is full. If you
have also installed a priming tee in the suction piping,
remove the plug from the tee and fill the suction piping.
2. Replace all fill plugs and close the control valve
completely (See Figure 14).
3. Power on! Start the pump and watch the pressure gauge.
The pressure should build rapidly to 50 psi as the pump
primes.
4. After 2 or 3 minutes, the gauge should show pressure.
If not, stop the pump, remove the fill plugs, reopen the
control valve, and refill the pump and piping. You may
have to repeat this two or three times in order to get all
the trapped air out of the piping. Don’t forget to close the
control valve each time before you start the pump.
5. When pressure has built up and stabilized at about 50
psi, slowly open the control valve (See Figure 15) and let
the pressure drop until the pressure gauge needle starts
to flutter. When the needle flutters, close the valve just
enough to stop the flutter (See Figure 15). Your pump is
now operating at its most efficient point.

a faucet or two and running enough water out to bleed
off pressure until the pump starts. The pump should start
when pressure drops to 30 psi and stop when pressure
reaches 50 psi. Run the pump through one or two
complete cycles to verify correct operation. This will also
help clean the system of dirt and scale dislodged during
installation.

TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
Symptoms Things to Do:
A. Motor will not run. A. Check that the disconnect switch is ON and that the circuit breaker
has not tripped or the fuse has not blown.
DISCONNECT POWER and make sure that wires connecting motor to
power supply and pressure switch are tight and correctly connected
(see Page 7).
If the remedies above do not solve the problem, call your well
professional.
B. Motor runs hot and overload trips. B. Turn to electrical instructions on Page 7 and verify that motor is
correctly wired.
Check with the power company or hydro authority to make sure
that the voltage at the pump is within +10% of the motor’s rated
nameplate voltage.
DISCONNECT POWER and make sure that the wires connecting the
motor to the power supply are sized according to Wiring Chart, Page 7.
If not, rewire according to the instructions on Page 7.
If the pump is cycling too frequently, see Section E, below.
C. Motor runs but no water is delivered. C. FIRST, check the prime; that is, make sure that the pump and all the
suction piping plus the piping in the well are full of water. If they
aren’t, fill them up.
In cold weather, make sure that the pipes and pump are not frozen.
If they are, thaw them, watching out for split pipes and fittings as you
work. Heat the pump pit or pump house and bury all piping below
the frost line.
Other possible causes (call your pump professional if you suspect one
of these): Air leaks in the suction line, dropping water level in the well,
foot valve stuck or plugged, ejector plugged, impeller plugged, foot
valve or strainer stuck in the mud in the bottom of the well, a shallow
well pump installed on a well with more than 25 ft depth to water
(in this case a deep well jet pump is needed).
D. Pump does not deliver water to full capacity. D. Possible causes are: the well water level is lower than estimated,
making a different nozzle/venturi combination necessary; steel piping
(if used) is corroded or limed, restricting capacity and increasing
friction; or the piping is too small for the installation. Consult your
well professional for any of these conditions.
E. Pump cycles too frequently or does not shut E. Make sure no faucets have been left open.
off at all. If system has a standard tank, make sure it isn’t waterlogged. If it is,
drain it down to the level of the air volume control. Make sure the
AVC isn’t defective and that there are no leaks at any connections.
If system has a precharged tank, disconnect power, open all system
faucets and bleed all pressure off of tank. Use a tire gauge to check
the air pressure in the tank. This should be lower than the cut-in setting
of the pressure switch by 2 PSI (that is, if the pressure switch starts the
pump at 30 PSI, the precharge should be 28 PSI). Check the air valve
for leaks (use a soap solution) and replace the core if necessary.
If you suspect any of the following conditions, consult your well
professional: leaky pipes, leaky foot valve, water level in the well
lower than estimated, clogged ejector or impeller.
F. Air spurts from faucets. F. Pump may still be priming; when priming is complete all air will have
been ejected from the system.
If you suspect leaks in the suction piping, gasses in the well, or that the
pump is intermittently overpumping the well (that is, drawing the water
level down below the foot valve), consult your well professional.
G. Pump leaks around clamp. G. Tighten clamp nut 1-2 turns. Do not overtighten.

DESCRIPTION
Les pompes à éjecteur transformables résistantes à la corrosion et
de toute première qualité (n°s 3PL, 5PL, 7PL, 10PL, 10PLS11C et
15PLS11C) peuvent être utilisées soit avec un puits peu profond,
soit avec un puits profond. Un éjecteur pour puits peu profond
(que l’on doit acheter séparément) est utilisé pour les hauteurs
géométriques d’aspiration de 25 pieds ou moins et il peut être
utilisé avec des puits forés (à tubage), une pointe filtrante, une
citerne ou un lac. Si l’éjecteur pour puits profonds est posé, la
pompe à éjecteur transformable peut être branchée sur des puits
ayant jusqu’à 110 pieds de profondeur (en fonction de l’ensemble
d’éjecteur utilisé).
La pompe est équipée d’un démarreur à condensateur et d’un
manostat dont le réglage varie entre 30 et 50 lb/po2.

Sécurité générale

Remplacement d’une pompe existante
PUITS PROFONDS
AVERTISSEMENT
Tension dangereuse. Couper l’arrivée
de courant à la pompe avant d’intervenir sur la pompe ou sur le
moteur.
1. Vider toute l’eau de l’ancienne pompe; déposer l’ancienne
pompe. Vérifier la tuyauterie à la recherche de dépôts de tartre,
de chaux, de rouille, etc.; la remplacer selon le besoin.
2. Si l’ancienne pompe comporte un tuyau d’aspiration (le plus
grand orifice – voir la Figure 1) sous l’orifice de pression, un
tuyau souple devra être branché entre la tête du puits et la
pompe pour que le branchement soit fait comme il faut. (Voir la
Figure 2.)
NOTA : L’ancien éjecteur (celui qui est dans le puits) ne s’assortira
peut-être pas bien avec la nouvelle pompe. Si le rendement de
la pompe n’est pas adéquat, nous recommandons de poser un
ensemble d’éjecteur Berkeley convenant à la pompe et au puits.
3. Brancher la pompe sur le système. S’assurer que tous les
raccords du tuyau d’aspiration sont bien étanches, aussi bien à
l’air qu’à l’eau. Si le tuyau d’aspiration aspire de l’air, la pompe
ne pompera pas l’eau du puits.
4. Régler la hauteur de montage de la pompe de façon que les
raccords de plomberie n’exercent aucune contrainte sur le corps
de la pompe. Supporter les tuyaux de façon que le corps de la
pompe ne supporte pas le poids de la tuyauterie ni des raccords.

(Figure 4)
1. Poser un ensemble d’éjecteur Berkeley modèle BK4875 (vendu
séparément). Suivre les instructions fournies avec le nécessaire.
S’assurer de bien aligner le venturi avec le trou supérieur qui se
trouve à l’avant de la pompe (voir la Figure 3).
2. Enfoncer la pointe dans le sol, en utilisant des «raccords
d’enfoncement» et des «chapeaux de battage». Les «raccords
d’enfoncement» sont filetés sur toute leur longueur, ce qui
permet aux extrémités des tuyaux de venir en butée l’une contre
l’autre de façon que la force d’enfoncement du maillet soit
absorbée par le tuyau et non pas par les filets. Les raccords
ordinaires que l’on trouve dans les quincailleries ne sont
pas filetés sur toute leur longueur et ils risquent de s’écraser
sous l’impact des coups. Les «raccords d’enfoncement» sont
également plus lisses que les raccords de plomberie standard,
ce qui leur permet de pénétrer plus facilement dans le sol.
3. Monter la pompe aussi près que possible du puits.
4. Utiliser le moins possible de raccords (en particulier des
coudes) lorsque l’on branche la tuyauterie de la pointe filtrante
sur l’orifice d’aspiration de la pompe. Le diamètre du tuyau
d’aspiration doit être au moins aussi grand que le diamètre de
l’orifice d’aspiration de la pompe (y compris le clapet anti-retour
- voir la Figure 4). Supporter le tuyau de façon qu’il ne soit pas
cintré afin qu’il n’exerce pas de contraintes sur le corps de la
pompe; de plus, il doit être légèrement incliné vers le haut, du
puits jusqu’à la pompe (les points hauts risquent de causer des
poches et des bouchons d’air dans la pompe). Rendre étanches
les joints du tuyau d’aspiration avec du ruban d’étanchéité en
PTFE pour filetage en PVC. Les raccords doivent être étanches
à l’air et à l’eau. Si le tuyau d’aspiration aspire de l’air, la pompe
ne pompera pas l’eau du puits. Si une pointe filtrante ne fournit
pas suffisamment d’eau, considérer brancher deux ou trois
pointes filtrantes sur un même tuyau d’aspiration.
Installation sur un puits à tubage de
2 pouces de diamètre ou plus grand
(Figure 5)
1. Poser un ensemble d’éjecteur Berkeley modèle BK4875
(vendu séparément). Suivre les instructions fournies avec le
nécessaire. S’assurer de bien aligner le venturi avec le trou
supérieur qui se trouve à l’avant de la pompe (voir la Figure 3).
2. Monter la pompe aussi près que possible du puits.
3. Brancher le clapet de pied, la crépine et le tuyau du puits (voir la
Figure 5). S’assurer que le clapet de pied fonctionne librement.
4. Abaisser le tuyau dans le puits jusqu’à ce que la crépine soit
à cinq pieds du fond du puits. Pour que la pompe n’aspire pas
d’air, la crépine doit être au moins à 10 pieds sous le niveau de
l’eau du puits pendant que la pompe fonctionne. Poser un joint
sanitaire de puits.
5. Poser le té d’amorçage et le tuyau d’aspiration sur la pompe
(voir la Figure 5). Brancher le tuyau provenant du puits sur
l’orifice d’aspiration de la pompe en utilisant le moins possible
de raccords - en particulier des coudes - étant donné que les
raccords augmentent le frottement de l’eau dans les tuyaux. Le
diamètre du tuyau d’aspiration doit être au moins aussi grand
que le diamètre de l’orifice d’aspiration de la pompe. Utiliser
du ruban d’étanchéité en PTFE pour filetage sur les raccords
de tuyaux filetés. Supporter le tuyau de façon qu’il ne soit pas
cintré afin qu’il n’exerce pas de contraintes sur le corps de la
pompe; de plus, il doit être légèrement incliné vers le haut, du
puits jusqu’à la pompe (les points hauts risquent de causer des
poches et des bouchons d’air dans la pompe). Rendre étanches
les joints du tuyau d’aspiration avec du ruban d’étanchéité en
PTFE pour filetage. Les raccords doivent être étanches à l’air

INSTALLATION POUR LES EAUX DE SURFACE
1. Poser un ensemble d’éjecteur Berkeley modèle BK4875 (vendu
séparément). Suivre les instructions fournies avec le nécessaire.
S’assurer de bien aligner le venturi avec le trou supérieur qui se
trouve à l’avant de la pompe (voir la Figure 6).
2. Monter la pompe aussi près que possible du puits en utilisant
le moins possible de raccords (en particulier des coudes) sur le
tuyau d’aspiration. Le diamètre du tuyau d’aspiration doit être au
moins aussi grand que le diamètre de l’orifice d’aspiration de la
pompe.
3. Assembler le clapet de pied et le tuyau d’aspiration (voir la
Figure 7). S’assurer que le clapet de pied fonctionne librement.
Utiliser du ruban d’étanchéité en PTFE pour filetage sur les
raccords de tuyaux filetés. Poser une crépine autour du clapet
de pied pour le protéger contre les poissons, les déchets, etc.
(voir la Figure 7).
4. Abaisser le tuyau dans le puits jusqu’à ce que la crépine soit
à cinq pieds du fond du puits. Pour que la pompe n’aspire pas
d’air, la crépine doit être au moins à 10 pieds sous le niveau de
l’eau du puits pendant que la pompe fonctionne.
5. Poser le té d’amorçage, le bouchon d’amorçage et le tuyau
d’aspiration sur la pompe (voir la Figure 7). Supporter le tuyau de
façon qu’il ne soit pas cintré afin qu’il n’exerce pas de contraintes
sur le corps de la pompe; de plus, il doit être légèrement incliné
vers le haut, du puits jusqu’à la pompe (les points hauts risquent
de causer des poches et des bouchons d’air dans la pompe).
Rendre étanches les joints du tuyau d’aspiration avec du ruban
d’étanchéité en PTFE pour filetage. Les raccords doivent être
étanches à l’air et à l’eau. Si le tuyau d’aspiration aspire de l’air, la
pompe ne pompera pas l’eau du puits.
Installation sur un nouveau puits profond,
Puits de 4 pouces de diamètre ou plus
grand (Figure 8)
1. Poser un ensemble d’éjecteur Berkeley modèle BK4800 (vendu
séparément). Voir la Figure 8. Suivre les instructions fournies
avec le nécessaire de façon à assortir la buse et le venturi en
fonction des conditions du puits.
2. Monter la pompe aussi près que possible du puits.
3. Brancher deux tuyaux (de 1 pouce pour l’eau motrice, de 1-1/4
pouce pour l’aspiration) sur l’éjecteur et abaisser l’éjecteur dans le
puits jusqu’à ce qu’il soit à cinq pieds du fond du puits. Pour que la
pompe n’aspire pas d’air, l’éjecteur doit également être à au moins
10 pieds sous le niveau de l’eau pendant que la pompe fonctionne.
4. Poser un joint sanitaire de puits et brancher la tuyauterie de
l’éjecteur sur la pompe. Dans le cas de tuyaux en plastique
souples, utiliser des raccords en acier là où les tuyaux
traversent le joint d’étanchéité du puits pour éviter d’écraser les
tuyaux lors du serrage du joint.
5. Supporter le tuyau de façon qu’il ne soit pas cintré afin qu’il
n’exerce pas de contraintes sur le corps de la pompe; de plus,
il doit être légèrement incliné vers le haut, du puits jusqu’à la
pompe (les points hauts risquent de causer des poches et des

Puits de 2 pouces (Figure 9)
1. Monter la pompe aussi près que possible du puits.
2. Assembler l’ensemble d’éjecteur Berkeley BK4840 (vendu
séparément), la tuyauterie du puits et l’adaptateur de la tête du
puits conformément aux instructions fournies avec l’éjecteur
(Voir la Figure 9.) Utiliser un tuyau de descente galvanisé muni
de raccords usinés pour assurer un débit adéquat. Suivre les
instructions fournies avec le nécessaire de façon à assortir la
buse et le venturi aux conditions du puits.
3. Poser deux tuyaux (un de petit diamètre pour l’eau motrice,
un de plus gros diamètre pour l’aspiration) entre le puits et la
pompe. Supporter le tuyau de façon qu’il ne soit pas cintré afin
qu’il n’exerce pas de contraintes sur le corps de la pompe; de
plus, il doit être légèrement incliné vers le haut, du puits jusqu’à
la pompe (les points hauts risquent de causer des poches et
des bouchons d’air dans la pompe). Rendre étanches les joints
du tuyau d’aspiration avec du ruban d’étanchéité en PTFE pour
filetage. Les raccords doivent être étanches à l’air et à l’eau. Si

Branchements du tuyau de refoulement et
sur un réservoir sous pression
BRANCHEMENT SUR UN RÉSERVOIR PRÉCHARGÉ (Figure 10)
1. Poser un raccord court et un té dans l’orifice de refoulement de
la pompe (voir la Figure 10). Le diamètre du tuyau doit être au
moins aussi grand que le diamètre de l’orifice de refoulement.
2. Poser un deuxième raccord court et un deuxième té; poser une
soupape de sûreté dans le té.
3. Brancher l’autre extrémité du deuxième té de refoulement sur le
système de la plomberie.
4. Vérifier la précharge d’air dans le réservoir avec un manomètre
pour pneu. La précharge doit être de 2 lb/po2inférieure au
réglage de la pression d’enclenchement du manocontacteur
de la pompe. La précharge se mesure lorsqu’il n’y a pas de
pression d’eau dans le réservoir. Cette pompe neuve est
équipée d’un manocontacteur de 30 à 50 lb/po2; la pression de
précharge du réservoir devra donc être réglée à 28 lb/po2.
BRANCHEMENT SUR UN RÉSERVOIR STANDARD (Figure 11)
1. Poser un raccord court et en té dans l’orifice de refoulement de
la pompe. Poser une soupape de sûreté dans une des branches
du té.
2. Poser un deuxième raccord court et un deuxième té dans la
branche libre du premier té. Poser un bouchon d’amorçage dans
une des branches du deuxième té.
3. Poser un tuyau entre la branche libre du deuxième té et l’orifice
d’admission du réservoir. Le diamètre du tuyau doit être au
moins aussi grand que le diamètre de l’orifice de refoulement de
la pompe.
4. Déposer le bouchon fileté de 1/8 de pouce NPT de l’orifice du
contrôleur d’air de la pompe (voir la Figure 11). Poser un tube
entre l’orifice du contrôleur d’air de la pompe et l’orifice du
contrôleur d’air monté sur le réservoir. Pour plus de détails, se
reporter aux instructions fournies avec le réservoir et le contrôleur
d’air.
