Opening the Umbrella
The Umbrella opens like a common
rain umbrella. Figures 1– 4
1. Pull open the Velcro® strap that holds the umbrella closed.
2. Reach under the material to nd the metal slider on the post.
3. Push the slider up the post and the umbrella will open.
4. The umbrella will lock in place when the metal slider is pushed over
the metal locking tab on the post.
Securing the Umbrella to your Light
NOTE: Set up your light stand and light head in the manner suggested by
your equipments’ manufacturers.
Most light heads, head mounng clamps, and LiteStand mounts will
have a receptacle and locking mechanism for securing the umbrella in
front of the light. Figures 5 – 7
5. Here we show a ShoeMount MulClamp (available separately) as
our umbrella and ash support. Slide the post of the umbrella into
the receptacle hole.

Adding and Removing the Black Cover Figures 8 – 14
8. The black cover is fastened to the umbrella with end caps that t
over the end of each rib.
9. Hold a rib with one hand while pulling the cap away from the rib
with the other hand.
10. Pulling o the black cover reveals the white shoot-through umbrella
beneath it.

11. Here is the umbrella with half the black cover removed.
12. When all eight caps are removed, unscrew the cap at the top of
the umbrella.
13. With the cap loose, remove the black cover and replace the cap on
the umbrella.
14. You’re now ready to use the umbrella as a shoot-through.
Folding the Umbrella Figures 8 – 14
Put the black cover on the umbrella, if removed.
15. Remove the umbrella from the MulClamp or light. Hold the lower
end of the post with one hand.
16. With the other hand, push the metal locking tab into the post unl
the metal slider is free.
17. Pull the metal slider down the post unl the umbrella is closed.
18. Wrap the Velcro strap around the material and secure it.

The Photoex umbrella line is new and improved! Now our umbrella ribs and strut pivots are constructed of
a berglass composite, which is not only stronger, but also oers beer resiliency and durability than steel
or aluminum. This new feature allows for carefree handling, all but eliminang damage caused from over
bending delicate steel tube ribs. All umbrella center poles are extruded and closed o at the base (vs. folded,
hollow tubes, like many other umbrellas, that are easily bent and dented) adding to the durability of the
Photoex® umbrella model.
