1. Desc iption
The Deployment Sw vel s mounted d rectly below the cable head above the deployed tool
str ng sect on. Its purpose s to allow rotat on of the str ng w thout the rotat on of the cable
head, wh ch m ght otherw se damage the electr c cable. Th s allows the threaded end
connect ons to be eas ly made up or broken.
The sw vel cons sts of an arrangement of two thrust bear ngs, one of wh ch w ll take the load,
when the sw vel s n e ther tens on or compress on. A s ngle electr cal conductor passes
through the assembly to allow commun cat on w th the rema nder of the logg ng str ng.

3. Job Planning
WARNING
Only use silicon grease when building the Swivel as other greases may conduct electricity
and cause a short in the logging system.
3.1. Before the Job
• Check, cond t on of Sw vel. Ensure that t has been redressed, f t has been run before
on prev ous jobs.
• Ensure that the assembly s n good cond t on and that the cert f cat on s w th n date.
• Ensure Sw vel rotates freely by hand.
• Check the electr cal connect on through the Sw vel, us ng a Mult meter, and also check
the nsulat on res stance between the conductor and the body us ng a Megger Meter
(see procedure for deta ls).
• Check that all Connect ons are made up correctly, and Grub Screws have been made
up.
3.2. During the Job
• Ensure that the O-R ngs on the GO Connect ons are n good cond t on, otherw se
replace.
• Check cond t on of GO Connect ons, espec ally, the seal ng d ameter s free from
damage or scratches, and the Spr ng Contact can be pushed n, and spr ngs back out. It
s recommended that the thread protector be replaced whenever the thread s exposed
dur ng operat ons.
• Lubr cate GO Threads only w th S l con grease.
• Ensure GO Connect ons are made up correctly on the Tool Str ng.
3.3. After the Job
• Check for damage or excess ve wear to any part of the Sw vel. Repa r/Replace
accord ngly. Pay part cular attent on to threads, seal areas, and the GO Connect on
Spr ng Contact.
• Check the electr cal connect on through the Sw vel, us ng a Mult meter, and also check
the nsulat on res stance us ng a Megger Meter (see procedure for deta ls). Re-dress
accord ngly.
• Check the Sw vel rotates freely by hand. If t doesn’t str p down, check components,
clean, re-dress and re-coat where appl cable.

4. Maintenance
4.1. Introduction
Regular ma ntenance of the equ pment us ng Phuel redress k ts or Phuel approved parts s
essent al to ts cont nued safe operat on. Ensure that the pre and post job operat ng
procedures are followed and that ma ntenance records are kept.
4.2. Schedule
There s no scheduled ma ntenance for th s tem. Replace o-r ngs after exposure to sour gas
env ronments.
4.3. Safety
Ensure that all tools and equ pment are n good cond t on and are su table for the ntended
use.
Care must be taken when us ng electr cal test ng equ pment, only qual f ed personnel should
be us ng th s equ pment.
Appropr ate personal protect ve equ pment should be worn when bu ld ng & test ng the
equ pment.
4.4. Tools
The follow ng tools are requ red.
• 1-11/16”, 1-5/8” & 1-1/4” Spanners or su table Adjustable Spanners.
• 1/8” Allen Key.
• Mult meter.
• 7/16” Socket and Wrench.
• Megger Meter.
• S l con Grease.
• Pa r of long nose pl ers & a pa r of nternal c rcl p pl ers (13mm).

4.5. rocedures
4.5.1. Redress
Th s procedure results n the redress of the Sw vel. Use Phuel suppl ed redress k ts
• Remove the two Grub screws (12).
• Back off Bottom Sub (1) wh le back ng up on the Lower Seal Sub (2). Remove Bear ng
(6), clean and nspect.
• Back up on the lower Contact Receptacle (7) and us ng a 7/16” Socket, remove the
upper Contact Receptacle (7), then remove the upper Insulat on Washer (11).
• Pull out Conductor Rod Assembly (5) from the bottom.
• Hold ng the Top Sub (4), remove the Reta n ng Nut (3) from the Top Sub (4), remove the
Ant -V brat on washer (18).
• Remove Bear ng (6), clean and nspect.
• Remove the Lower Seal Sub (2), and remove O-R ngs (16 & 17).
• Remove O-R ngs (15) from the Bottom Sub (1).
Before Assembl ng beg ns, all parts should be carefully cleaned w th an alcohol based flu d,
nspected for damage and lubr cated us ng Silicon G ease only.
Ensure that elastomer c seals are not damaged or excess vely stretched dur ng assembly.
Use new seals from the appropr ate redress k t and check that the dates are w th n a useable
per od.
• Assemble O-R ngs (16 & 17).
• Sl de the Lower Seal Sub (2) onto the Top Sub (4), be ng careful not to damage seals.
• Grease and assemble the Bear ng (6) components onto Reta n ng Nut (3).
• Place the Ant -V brat on washer (18) onto the recess n the Reta n ng Nut (3). Use a l ght
appl cat on of s l cone grease to hold n the central pos t on f requ red.
• Make-up Reta n ng Nut (3) to Top Sub (4), ensure Ant -v brat on Washer (18) s n correct
pos t on before t ghten ng.
• Sl de the Conductor Rod assembly (5) through the Reta n ng Nut (3), from the bottom.
• Assemble upper Insulat on Washer (11), onto Conductor Rod (5) ns de the Top Sub (4).

• Make up Contact Receptacle (7) us ng the 7/16” Socket to Conductor Rod (5) and
t ghten.
• Grease Bear ng (6), and assemble nto Bottom Sub (1).
• Make-up Bottom Sub (1) to Lower Seal Sub (2) and t ghten.
• Check the GO P n, Spr ng Contact (10), by push ng n. Ensure t spr ngs back out, repeat
th s several t mes to check.
• Check the electr cal connect on through the Sw vel s conduct ng us ng a Mult meter.
Also check the Insulat on Res stance through the Sw vel us ng a Megger Meter - @ 500V
read ng should be not less than 100 MΩ.
• Assemble Grub Screws (12) and Thread Protectors (19 & 20).
4.5.2. Complete Str p Down of Sw vel
Th s procedure results n the complete str p down of the Sw vel. Ta lor the nstruct ons to su t
your ntended object ve
• Remove the two Grub screws (12).
• Back off Bottom Sub (1) wh le back ng up on the Lower Seal Sub (2). Remove Bear ng
(6), clean and nspect.
• Back up on the lower Contact Receptacle (7) and us ng a 7/16” Socket, remove the
upper Contact Receptacle (7), then remove the upper Insulat on Washer (11).
• Pull out Conductor Rod Assembly (5) from the bottom and the remove the Lower
Contact Receptacle (7), Insulat on Washer (11) and Insulat ng Sleeve (13).
• Hold ng the Top Sub (4), remove the Reta n ng Nut (3) from the Top Sub (4), remove the
Ant -V brat on washer (18).
• Remove Bear ng (6), clean and nspect.
• Remove the Lower Seal Sub (2), and remove O-R ngs (16 & 17).
• Remove O-R ngs (15) from the Bottom Sub (1).
• Us ng C rcl p Pl ers, Remove C rcl p (21) from Bottom Sub (1).
• Remove Spr ng Contacts (10), Spr ng (14) and Flat Insulators (9) and Insulat ng Sleeve
(13).
• Clean and nspect all parts for ev dence of damage or excess ve wear. D scard the O-
R ng seals and replace them w th new ones. Repa r or replace any damaged or worn
parts. Re-coat parts as necessary.

4.5.3. Complete Assembly of Sw vel
Before Assembl ng beg ns, all parts should be carefully cleaned us ng an alcohol-based flu d,

• Assemble the Insulat ng Sleeve (13), Flat Insulators (9), the Spr ng Contacts (10) and the
Spr ng (14) nto the Bottom Sub (1)
• Assemble the C rcl p (21) nto the Bottom Sub (1), us ng C rcl p Pl ers.
• Assemble O-R ngs (16 & 17).
• Sl de the Lower Seal Sub (2) onto the Top Sub (4), be ng careful not to damage seals.
• Grease and assemble the Bear ng (6) components onto Reta n ng Nut (3).
• Place the Ant -V brat on washer (18) onto the recess n the Reta n ng Nut (3). Use a l ght
appl cat on of s l cone grease to hold n the central pos t on f requ red.
• Make-up Reta n ng Nut (3) to Top Sub (4), ensure Ant -v brat on Washer (18) s n correct
pos t on before t ghten ng.
• Make up the Contact receptacle (7), Insulat on Washer (11) and Insulat ng Sleeve (13) to
the Conductor Rod (5) and then sl de the assembly through the Reta n ng Nut (3), from
the bottom.
• Assemble upper Insulat on Washer (11), onto Conductor Rod (5) ns de the Top Sub (4).
• Make up Contact Receptacle (7) us ng the 7/16” Socket to Conductor Rod (5) and
t ghten.
• Grease Bear ng (6), and assemble nto Bottom Sub (1).
• Make-up Bottom Sub (1) to Lower Seal Sub (2) and t ghten.
• Check that the Spr ng Contact (10) s assembled correctly by push ng on the end,
ensur ng that t spr ngs back out. Repeat th s several t mes unt l sat sf ed.
• Check the electr cal connect on through the Sw vel s conduct ng us ng a Mult meter.
Also check the Insulat on Res stance through the Sw vel us ng a Megger Meter - @ 500V
read ng should be not less than 100 MΩ.
• Assemble Grub Screws (12) and Thread Protectors (19 & 20).
