TROUBLESHOOTING
1) Before beginning troubleshooting, remove all batteries and wait 3 minutes.
Then using new, fresh ALKALINE batteries, repeat FIRST STEP through FOURTH STEP, above.
2) The temperature is displayed on the floating thermometer, but “cc.c” is displayed on the base station on its upper display. Look to see the
CHANNEL indicated on the display of the floating thermometer is the same as the CHANNEL displayed on the base station. If not, then use the
“CHANNEL, MAN/SCAN” pushbutton on the base station to select the same CHANNEL.
3) The floating thermometer and base station work OK when close together, but the floating temperature display on the base station shows “--.-“ or
“cc.c” sometime after I place the floating thermometer in the water and the base station indoors. Try a different position for the base station. A
line-of-sight position is usually best, especially through a window versus an outside wall. Also take note of where the floating thermometer is
located when this happens. If it has stopped in a blind position to the base station, this could be the cause. Use the enclosed tether line (thread only)
to keep the floating thermometer in a line-of-sight position if necessary. If there is still a problem of occasionally losing the floating temperature
display, there could be some local radio frequency interference causing the problem, such as cell phone, cordless phones, wireless LAN, two-way
radio, etc. It may not be possible to have reliable operation under such conditions.
4) The base station shows a temperature on its upper display that is not equal to the temperature displayed on the floating thermometer. This can be
caused by one of two conditions: (a) The base station has temporarily lost communication with the floating thermometer; or, (b) The base station is
receiving a signal from a neighbor’s floating thermometer instead of yours. In case of (a), wait at least 3 minutes for the temperature to be updated,
if it is not updated then follow troubleshooting step 3. In case of (b), follow the procedure for changing the CHANNEL 1-2-3 selection on the
floating thermometer in the FLOATING THERMOMETER SETTINGS section, above, to select a different Channel from your neighbor.
5) The display on the floating thermometer goes blank from time-to-time. This can be caused by one of two conditions: (a) The electrical connector
inside the unit is loose; or (b) the battery contacts inside the unit are dirty. In either case, first, open the floating thermometer and remove the
batteries. Second, unplug the electrical connector (the connector might be in-line with the wire harness or mounted on the printed circuit board).
Then snap the connector back together tightly. Third, thoroughly wipe clean the + and –ends of both batteries. Lastly, follow the FIRST STEP
through FOURTH STEP of the Operator Instructions.
