TogetthebestperformancefromyourGXRSubwoofers,youmustuseaSubwooferEnclosure.Don’t
botherusingthemin“freeair,”withnosubbox,justpoppedintothebackdeckofyourcar.Youwill
notgetverygoodperformancefromyoursubwoofersifyoudothis.
Youcanbuildyourownbox,buyapre-builtboxoraboxkit,orhaveyourPolkAudiodealerdesign
andbuildacustomsubenclosureforyou.YourGXRSubwoofersweredesignedtoworkwellinawide
varietyofenclosuresizesandconfigurations.
Ifyouchoosetobuildyourownenclosure,besuretobuilditwell.Makecertainit’sproperlysealed
andairtightformaximumbassperformance.

AMPLIFIER POWER REQUIREMENTS FOR GXR SUBWOOFERS
YourSubwooferswillworkwellwithavarietyofelectroniccomponents.Aslittleas50wattsperchannel
willdeliveradequatelisteninglevelsinmostcars.Ifyouhaveanoisycarorintendtoplayyoursystem
atloudlisteninglevels,morepowerisnecessarytoachievethebestperformance.Morepowerisalways
better,ConsultyourPolkAudiodealerforspecificrecommendations.
OPTIMAL CROSSOVER SETTING
Werecommendusinganactivecrossoverwitha12to18dBperoctavelowpassfilterslope,and
settingittoaninitialsettingofSOto90Hzasagoodstartingpoint,Thisisanoptimalcrossover
settingonmostvehicles.
INVERTING PHASE
Dependingontheplacementofyoursubwooferenclosureandassociatedcomponents,itmaybe
necessarytoinvertthephaseofoneoranotherofyoursystem’sconnectionsinordertogainbetter
subwoofer/mid-rangeblending.Invertingthephasesimplymeansswitchingthepositiveconnections
withthenegativeconnectionsattheamplifier.Ifyouchoosetodothis,invertthephaseofonlyone
setofspeakels(eitheryourmains,oryoursubs,neverboth).

SAFE LIMITS OF OPERATION
YourPolkGXRSubwoofersaremadewiththehighestqualitymaterialsforyearsoftrouble-free
performance.However,damagetoloudspeakerscanoccurwhenanamplifier,regardlessofits
wattage,ismadetoplayathigherlisteninglevelsthanitspowercanclearlyproduce(usually
beyondthe“1to2o’clock’positiononthevolumecontrol).Thisresultsinveryhighlevelsof
audibledistortion,originatingintheamplifier,whichaddsaharsh,grittysoundtothemusic.
Contrarytopopularbelief,aspeakerismorelikelytobedamagedbytryingtogettoomuch
volumefromalow-poweredampthanfromahigh-poweredone.Heardistortion?Turnitdown

LOW FREQUENCY CUT-OFF FOR MID-RANGE SPEAKERS
IN SYSTEMS WITH SUBWOOFERS
Nowthatyouhaveasubwooferinyoursystem,youmaywanttodecreasetheamountofbass
goingtoyourmid-rangespeakerj.Thiswillgetyoubettermid-rangesoundandincreasethepower
handling.Therearetwowaystorolloffthebassbeforeitgetstoyourmid-rangespeakers.Onewayis
tousea“bassblocker,”acapacitorplacedinserieswiththespeakerinput.Bassblockersareinstalled
inseries,oneendconnectedwiththepositiveleadfromyouramplifierandtheotherendconnected
tothepositiveleadofeachofyourspeakers.Bassblockercapacitors(200microfarad@lOOvolts,
non-polarized)areavailableatanyRadioShackorpartssupplyhouse.Theotherrouteistouse
anelectroniccrossoverdevicethatallowsfilteringbelow1OOHzorso.Findthesedevicesatyour
authorizedPolkAudiodeafer.

PolkAudio,Inc.warrantstheoriginalpurchaseronlythatthisPolkAudioGXRSeriesProduct
(theProduct)willbefreefromdefectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipforaperiodof(1)oneyear
fromthedateoforiginalretailpurchasefromaPolkAudioAuthorizedDealer.However,thiswarranty
willautomaticallyterminatepriortotheexpirationofthe(1)oneyearperiodiftheoriginalretail
purchasersellsorotherwisetransferstheProducttoanyotherparty.Theoriginalretailpurchaser
shallhereinafterbereferredtoas“you.”ToallowPolkAudiotoofferthebestpossiblewarrantyservice,
pleasefill outtheProductRegistrationCard(s)andsendthemtotheFactoryattheaddressprovided
