Air Q ality Management for Indoor
Environments

LAB1191R, Iss e 1, May 2015
Overview
The Silavent AMIE control mod le provides enhanced control of air q ality in domestic
indoor environments serviced by Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR).
Silavent AMIE offers a choice of man al or f lly a tomatic control of the two main
f nctions: extract fan boost speed operation and heat exchanger bypass (s mmer
bypass).
The extract fan boost speed is controlled by h midity level sensing or an external trigger
s ch as a switch or p sh b tton. H midity level sensing will change the fan speed from
backgro nd to boost as the level of h midity changes. The external trigger will change
the fan speed depending on its on/off condition. When switched off from on, a 15
min te r n on timer is activated; s bseq ently the MVHR nit will ret rn to backgro nd
speed after 15 min tes nless the external trigger is operated d ring this time.
Heat exchanger bypass (s mmer bypass – no heat recovery) is controlled by room
temperat re or time clock settings. In room temperat re mode the bypass will change
from off to on when the room temperat re exceeds the set temperat re. In time clock
mode the bypass operation is controlled by pre-programmed or ser programmed time
settings.
IMPORTANT!
This appliance does not add a heating or refrigerant cooling f nction to the MVHR
system. The cooling f nction provided is the operation of the bypass mechanism of the
MVHR nit, which diverts air aro nd the heat exchanger.
This appliance can be sed by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with
red ced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if
they have been given s pervision or instr ction concerning se of the appliance in a safe
way and nderstand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance.
Cleaning and ser maintenance shall not be made by children witho t s pervision.
Before commencing any work read the following instr ctions caref lly and ens re yo
have the necessary competency to complete the work safely.

7. Filter maintenance reminder
We recommend that the filters of yo r MVHR nit are inspected and maintained on a
reg lar basis to ens re optim m operation. The freq ency of cleaning will vary from
property to property and is dependent on a n mber of factors specific to the property.
We recommend the filters are inspected every two to three months ntil the req ired
freq ency of inspection and maintenance can be determined. See MVHR operating
instr ctions for details of filter removal and refitting.
The AMIE control has the option to provide a filter cleaning reminder every 3,000 ho rs
(approximately 4 months). Contact o r technical department on 08443 715523 for more
information abo t activating this f nction. If selected the display will show a filter
cleaning message on screen and the (OK)

Once the filters have been inspected and cleaned, validate it with the (OK)

The AMIE control will display a filter change reminder every 9,000 ho rs (approximately
12 months). The display will show a filter change message on screen and the (OK

will ill minate red.
Note: if the filters have been reg larly maintained, the req irement to replace every

AMIE is based on a different philosophy to other temperat re controlled bypass systems.
•Senses room temperat re and activates the bypass f nction according to the set
point commanded by the ser (heat recovery on, temperat re controlled bypass
activated)
•Feat res a f lly programmable time controlled bypass f nction. This allows the
ser to command the bypass to activate irrespective of temperat re – perfect for
night time ventilation (heat recovery on, temperat re controlled bypass
activated)
•Is s pplied with a n mber of pre-set bypass programmes. These provide the ser
with q ick and easy access to a n mber of time controlled bypass options
Looking at the pre-set programmes (next page) it can be seen that the time control has a
resol tion of 30 min tes. Where the time segment is colo red black, the bypass f nction
is temperat re controlled. Where the segment is clear, the bypass f nction is time
controlled.
Taking P1 as an example, night cooling (MVHR nit in bypass mode) will start at 10pm
and stop at 5am. This means that the home will be s pplied with cooler air thro gh the
night, as the external air temperat re falls, making a more comfortable environment for
the occ pants to get a good night’s sleep. In addition the fabric of the property will also
be cooled, which means a lower initial temperat re prior to the next day’s temperat re
increase.
Pre-set programme options.
•P1 – Night cooling
Activates the bypass d ring typically cooler night time ho rs (7 ho rs)
•P2 – Extended night cooling 1
Activates the bypass for a longer period d ring night time ho rs (12 ho rs)
•P3 – Extended night cooling 2
As P2 b t f rther extended (14 ho rs)
•P4 – Red ced heat recovery 1
Activates the bypass d ring periods of typically higher activity where heat
recovery is not req ired (can be sed in conj nction with boosted fan speed –
decrease h midity setting)
•P5 – Red ced heat recovery 2
As P4 b t with revised weekend ho rs
•P6 – Daytime bypass
As P4 b t with revised ho rs
•P7 – O t of ho rs cooling (shop, office)
As P1 b t with revised ho rs (typical office working ho rs)
•P8 – Constant bypass
Activates the bypass contin ally, no heat recovery at any time or temperat re
•P9 – Temperat re control bypass
Activates the bypass dependent on ser set temperat re, no timed bypass
operation
IMPORTANT!
This appliance does not add a heating or refrigerant cooling f nction to the MVHR
system. The cooling f nction provided is the operation of the bypass mechanism of the
MVHR nit, which diverts air aro nd the heat exchanger.
