Precautions
1. The battery for master PW-VP50 is lithium battery with 8.4V.
Please recharge the master machine with the charger of 8.4V.
2. The battery for slave PW-VP50 is AAA battery 4 pieces.
Please switch off the slave machine after testing, and remove the batteries if there is
no testing going on.
3. Press the power button 3 seconds to switch on or switch off.
4. The inject current to slave machine cannot exceed 50mA. The output or other signal
for master machine cannot be injected into the slave machine input in case the slave
machine is damaged.
5. Please do not block the ventilation on the back of master machine. It is suggested lay
it inclined for dissipation.
6. Please turn down the current peak value or prolong the output cycle to extend the
battery life if the master battery is lower than 20%.
It is not suggest recharging the master machine while doing testing to avoid
interference or security concern.
7. There is relay trip voice during the testing, and the indication LED will flash. If the
indication LED is not flashing, please check the wiring connection or the master
machine.
8. Please contact the tech support for assistance if there is failure or technical issue.
Please do not uninstall the machine without authorization from manufacturer.

1. Brief Introduction
PW-VP50 CT polarity checker is the favorable meter which can be used for field CT
polarity test in power plants, substitution and any other application which may need to
check the polarity. There are 2 units included in PW-VP50. One master machine can
automatically inject high-precision pulse current with adjustable amplitude and period to
the primary side of CT, three-phase at the same time. The other slave machine will
receive and analyze the waveform of induced pulse current at the secondary side so as to
judge the polarity is positive or negative automatically by the LED indicator on the
machines.
This testing method is very simple, reliable and easy to operate. There are built-in battery
inside of the kits and very small size so the engineers can use it to quickly complete the
polarity detection work not only for CT, but also for the secondary protection circuit's
polarity check.

2. Master machine and slave machine
2.1 Master machine

There are three pairs of current output ports A, B and C.

The three ports will be connected with the CT primary current.
Buttons on the master machine:
Power: Press the power button 3 seconds to switch on or switch off the master machine.
Phase output: It is used to set the output phase of the current pulse. Phase A, B, C or
three-phase can output simultaneously.
Period: It is used to set the pulse output period: 2 second, 3 second, 4 second and five
second for setting.
Max current: It is used to set the max pulse current injected to the CT primary side. There
are four grades: 1A, 2A, 3A and 5A. The higher of the max current, the higher of the
induced current in CT secondary; If so, the power consumption will be higher and the
battery working time will be shorter. We suggest using the 5A option when the CT ratio is
higher than 4000/5; and using 1A or 2A or 3A option with CT ratio lower than 4000/5.
Single trigger: It is used to send the single current pulse.
Cyclic trigger: By pressing it, the checker will output the current pulse with the setting
cycle.
Default: The checker will working with the default mode setting: three-phase output, max
current 1A, period 3s and cyclic trigger.

2.2 Slave machine

There is one pair of signal input port on the slave machine.
The port will be connected with the CT secondary side.
Note: The current amplitude for the input current can be over than 50mA, otherwise the
machine will be damaged.
When the inductive current is input, the inductive current LED indicator will be on for
indication. The slave machine will collect the inductive current waveform and analyze the
CT polarity. If it is analyzed polarity Positive, the LED Positive polarity will be on in green

for 2 seconds and alarm; if it is analyzed polarity Negative, the LED Negative polarity will
be on in red without alarm,

The master output will be connected with the CT primary and output pulse current with
setting value.
The slave machine will be connected with the CT secondary side to check the winding
polarity. If there are more than 2 slave machines configured, more CT polarity can be
checked at the same time.
There is magnetic installed inside of the slave machine so it can be attached to the cabinet
for convenience.
During testing, if it is showing the master battery low indication LED on, it is suggested
decrease the master output period and max current or change a new master machine.

4. Compare with traditional battery test
1) The traditional battery test cannot send the pulse automatically, but in manual.
PW-VA500 supports to send pulse in manual and automatic. The pulse period and
max current can be set in single phase or three-phase.
2) By automatic mode, the master machine can send the pulse in cycle. And the test
engineer needs only to check the CT polarity on basis of inductive polarity of the CT
secondary from the slave machine.
3) By battery test, more than 2 engineers should be required for the site testing. Besides,
the long-distance communications, testing wiring connection, etc makes the testing in
low speed.
Moreover, the pulse current amplitude will be affected by the resistance, and
remaining battery.
By using PW-VP50, the above advantages will be avoided.
