This PocketPower" is an electronicdevicethat converts low voltageDC
(directcurrent) electricityfrom a batteryto 115volt AC(alternating
current) householdpower.In designingthis inverter,PowerOnBoard
hasincorporateddesigntechniquespreviouslyemployedin computer
powersupplies. The result of thesedesign innovationsis a smaller,
lighterandeasier-to-usepowerinverter.
ThePocketPower@Inverterconverts power in two stages.Thefirst
stageis a DC-to-DCconversionprocessthat raisesthe low voltageDC
at the inverter inputto 145volts DC.Thesecondstageis a MOSFET
bridgestagethat convertsthe highvoltageDCinto 115volts, 60 HzAC.
TheDC-to-DCconverterstageusescreative,highfrequency,zerovoltage
switchingpowerconversiontechniquesthat replacethe bulkytransformers
found in lesstechnologicallyadvancedmodels.Theinverterstageuses
advancedpowerMOSFETtransistorsinafull bridgeconfiguration.
