Working with the Cryostat CF-6100
1. Begin by plugging in the cryostat power cord (with any appropriate adaptors and surge
protectors) into the wall.
2. Turn the cryostat ON by flipping the blue circuit breaker on the back of the cryostat. The
circuit breaker functions as the power switch. The switch is in the top position for ON,
and bottom position for OFF.
a. The cryostat must be switched on for at least 5 hours before initial use.
b. Close the sliding window.
3. Turning the cryostat on will bring you to the main control panel:

Main Control Panel
The Precisionary Cryostat CF-6100 is unique in that it has a state-of-the-art touchscreen control
panel for all functionalities. To help explain the functions of each panel in the Main Control
Panel, here are the specific buttons and selections:
U
pper Right Panel
Compressor activation button
After turning the cryostat on, the compressor will
automatically start cooling after 3 minutes. Note that the
compressor will wait for 3 minutes before activating. The
freeze chamber will begin to cool down to the desired
temperature.
Time & day indicator
Indicates the time of day.
Indicates the day of the week.
The time and day can be set in the Time Settings Control
Panel (see below).
Chamber light
Pressing the chamber light button will turn on the freeze
chamber light. Pressing it again will turn the light off.
Ultraviolet (UV) light
Pressing the UV button on the right will turn on UV light
for 15 minutes (900 seconds). A countdown timer is set
for 900 seconds. Pressing the UV button again will turn
the UV light off.
Sleep (standby) mode
Pressing this button activates the sleep mode and turns
the indicator light on. The sleep mode is recommended
for keeping the temperature of the freeze chamber
between -5 and -10 C. During sleep mode, the working
time of the compressor is much shorter, allowing for
decreased average power consumption. This helps

prolong the lifespan of the compressor and reduces
energy consumption. Therefore, when the cryostat is not
in use for a long time, activate the sleep mode. Press the
compressor activation button to exit sleep mode.
Defrost mode
This button is used to turn on/off the instant defrost
function. Press this button to turn the instant defrost ON,
which will turn on the indicator light. The machine will
enter the defrosting state, which takes 60 minutes each
time. Press this button at any time during the defrost
cycle will turn the defrost function OFF, and the indicator
light will turn off. After turning the defrost function off,
cryostat cooling resumes after 25 seconds.
Upper Left Panel
Compressor state
Working state of the compressor
This icon on the touch screen indicates the working state
of the compressor.
Green = working
Blue = standby
Black (off) = stop
Increase/decrease temperature
Adjust the desired temperature settings by using the (+)
or (-) buttons.
Semiconductor cooling
???
Semiconductor cooling (Hibernation mode is invalid)
This button is the on / off key of semiconductor cooling.
When the button is pressed, the indicator light is on, the
machine starts the semiconductor cooling part on the cold
stage, cools the module platform, and starts the
semiconductor cooling for 15 minutes. As time increases,

the semiconductor operating time will gradually decrease
until the semiconductor refrigeration unit stops working
and the indicator light goes out. You can also press this
key to stop the semiconductor refrigeration part during
operation. In addition, when the semiconductor
refrigeration part is working, if the temperature of the cold
stage is higher than -15 ° C, the semiconductor
refrigeration part in operation will automatically shut
down. The temperature of the stage is higher than -15 °
C, and the semiconductor refrigerating parts cannot be
turned on.
Lower Left Panel

The lower section of the main control panel will show
options for trimming and sectioning.
Press this button to go between Trim and Section
options.
Increase/decrease slice
thickness
This is the increase button. Press to increase the section
(or trim) thickness.
This is the decrease button. Press to decrease the
section (or trim) thickness.
Cumulative thickness & slice
count
The left side of this panel displays the cumulative slice
thickness and slice count. Press this area to reset both
values to zero.

Time Setting Control Panel
In addition to the Main Control Panel, the touchscreen on the Precisionary Cryostat CF-6100
also has a Time Setting Control Panel to allow users to set the clock, sleep (standby) durations,
and defrost durations. Specific times and days can be set for clock, automatic sleep mode, and
automatic defrost mode.
To get to the Time Setting Control Panel from the Main Control Panel, press the “Set” button:

To return to the Main Control
Panel, press the “BACK” button
in the lower right of the Time
Setting Control Panel.

Small Operation Panel
On the left side of the outer chamber, there is a small operation panel (Figure ):

Chamber light
Press this button to turn on the chamber light. Press it
again to turn it off.
Ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection
Press this button to turn on the UV light to disinfect the
freeze chamber. The UV light is automatically timed to turn
on for 15 minutes, after which it will turn off. Press this key
any time after turning the UV light on to turn it off.
It is strongly recommended that the user keep the outer
wall of the UV light bulb clean, to ensure full UV light
penetration for sterilization and disinfection.
Specimen holder forward (slow)
Press this button to slowly move the specimen holder
forward.
Specimen holder retract (fast)
These two buttons can move the specimen holder forward
and backwards quickly.
Pressing the specimen holder retract (fast) button will
cause the specimen holder to retract to its initial position.
Press the forward (fast) button to stop the specimen
holder in motion.
