
1.5.5 DVD-ROM Drive
Other thanthe internal CD-ROM drive, the notebook also providesoptional factorybuilt-in
DVD-ROM drive. DVD-ROM drives arealso backward compatiblewithCD-ROM, so you
canalso use anyaudioCDs, video CDs, photo CDs, and CD-R. Using a software MPEG-
2/DVD program, thenotebook canplayback anycommercialDVD movietitles.
1.6 System BIOS SETUP Program
Your computeris likely to havebeen properlysetup and configured byyourdealer priorto
delivery. However, you mayfind itnecessaryto usethecomputer’s BIOS (Basic Input-
OutputSystem) Setup programto change systemconfiguration information, such as the
current date andtime, or yourhard disk drivetype. The Setup programcan be accessed when
you power on the system andpressingthe <F2> function key.
The settings thatyou specifywithin theSetup programarerecordedin aspecialareamemory
called the CMOS RAM. This memoryis backed up by a batteryso that is will notbeerased
when youturn off or resetthe system. Whenever you turn on the computer, thesystem will
readthe settings storedin the CMOS RAM andcomparethem to theequipmentcheck
conducted during the Power On Self Test(POST). If an error occurs, an error message willbe
displayed on the screen, and you will then be prompted torun the Setup Program.
As the POST (Power-On Self Test) executes duringtheboot up process, the screen will
displaythe followingmessage:
Press<F2> to Enter SETUP
Pressthe<F2> keytorun the BIOS Setup program. The BIOS Setup program is organized
into five menus which you canselect usingthe ßand àkeys. To movefromone option to
another, youuse the up anddown arrow keys while usingthe<F5> and<F6>, or <+>and <->
keys to changethesettings.Ontherighthandsideof thescreen are some brief help
descriptionsof each itemyou want to change.
On theBIOS Setup program, you will find the followingparts on thescreen:
•Item Specific Help
The rightsideof thescreen. Thisarea describeseachparameter and its
availablesettings.
•Menu Bar
The top lineof thescreen. Each of thefiveselections displays its own screen.
•Parameters
The leftside ofthescreen. This area lists the parameters and their current
settings.
•KeyStatus Bar
The bottompartofthe screen. Theselines displaythekeys availableto move
thecursor, select aparticular function andso forth.
To exit theBIOS Setup program,simply press the <Esc> keyand selectfrom the Exit menu
whether youwantto Savechanges andexit; Discard Changes and exit.
