1. Before connecting the LAN cable, you must attach the ferrite core to the cable:
a. Open the ferrite core.
b. Wind your LAN cable around the core for one circle and close the core, leaving 6 cm between the core and the
connector end.
2.Plug the connector endwiththe core to theRJ-45 connector on the computerand the other endtothe network hub.
NOTE: The appearance of the core may be different from the one shown.
Using the Wireless LAN (option)
Dependingon your model, an internalMini PCI wireless LAN (WLAN)card may have been pre-installedby your computer
manufactureratthefactory.This card allows you toaccesscorporatenetworksorthe Internet in a wirelessenvironment.
TheWLAN features include:
*IEEE802.11b/astandardcompliance
*2.4 GHz DSSS (DirectSequence Spread Spectrum) technology
*Peer-to-Peer (Ad-Hoc) and AccessPoint(Infrastructure) modes support
*WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)64/128-bitdata encryption
*Transmission rateat 11 Mbps,5.5Mbps,2 Mbps,and1 Mbps withautomaticdata rating
To take advantage of the WLAN feature,make sure that the WLAN driver is installed correctly.(See Chapter 6 for more
information.)If yourWLAN card was provided byyourdealer insteadof the computermanufacturer,contact your dealer
for the correct driver to use.
Configuring the WLAN
Afterdriver installation, you can usethe WLAN utilityto configure and monitor yourWLAN connection. Ifyou are using
WindowsXP,you can also useits built-inWLAN utility.Followthis proceduretolaunch theWLANutility inWindowsXP:
1.Select Control Panelfrom the Startmenu.
2.ClickNetworkandInternet Connections.
3.ClickNetworkConnections, then double-click the Wireless NetworkConnectionicon .
4.Click Properties in the WirelessNetwork Connection Status dialogbox.
5.You can configureyourWLAN settingsin theWirelessNetworkConnectionProperties dialog box.
Turning Off/On the WLAN
NOTE: The FAA (Federal Aviation Agency) has deemed it unsafe to operate wireless devices in
aircraft as this may interfere with flight safety. Remember to turn off wireless LAN when using
your computer in the airplane.
Your computer has a built-in Fn+F1WLAN hot key to switch the WLAN on/off (see“Hot Keys”in chapter 2).
Uponbooting-upyour computer,theWLAN function is off.BothWindowsXPWLAN utility and the Fn+F1 hotkeymust be
on for the WLAN function to work. The WLAN indicator ( ) glows green to indicate that the computer is ready for WLAN
connection.
To turn off theWLAN function,either press Fn+F1 or turn off theWLAN utility.
Ittakesapproximately30secondsforyourcomputerto make a successful WLAN connection and approximately 10 seconds
todisconnect.
