withtheconveniencesyou expectduringyourdaily activities. Onceyouunderstandhow tosafelyoperateand care for
yourpowerchair,itshould giveyouyears oftroublefree operationandservice.
Readandfollowallinstructions,warningsandnotes inthismanualbeforeattemptingtooperate yourpowerchairforthe
firsttime.Youmustalsoreadallinstructions,warningsandnotescontainedinanysupplementalinstructionalbookletsfor

PRODUCT SAFETY SYMBOLS
Thesymbolsbelowareusedonthe powerchairtoidentifywarnings, mandatoryactionsandprohibitedactions. Itisvery
importantforyoutoread andunderstandthem completely.
Read and follow the information in the owner’s manual.
Do not allow unsupervised children to play near the power chair while the batteries are
charging.
Maximum seating weight.
Keep your hands away from the tyres when driving. Be aware that loose fitting clothing
can become caught in drive tyres.
Use correct tie-down points for controller harness to prevent the harness from getting
caught in the drive tyres, pinched in the seat frame or damaged when passing through
doorways.
Do not use a cell phone, walkie/talkie, laptop or other radio transmitter while operating.
Avoid exposure to rain, snow, ice, salt or standing water whenever possible. Maintain and
store in a clean and dry condition.

Removal of grounding prong can create electrical hazard. If necessary, properly install
an approved 3-pronged adapter to an electrical outlet having 2-pronged plug access.

Do not place power chair in freewheel mode on a decline.
Do not lift the mobility vehicle while seated in it.
Do not remove anti-tip wheels.
This product has been tested and passed at an immunity level of 20 V/m.
Do not place power chair in freewheel mode on a incline.

Do not connect an extension lead to the AC/DC converter or the battery charger.
Keep tools and other metal objects away from battery terminals.
Use only AGM or Gel-Cell batteries to reduce the risk of leakage or explosive
conditions.

Corrosive chemicals contained in battery. Use only AGM or Gel-Cell batteries to reduce

Explosive conditions exist!
Do not use batteries with different amp-hour (Ah) capacities. Do not mix old and new
batteries. Always replace both batteries at the same time.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
MANDATORY! Do not operate your new power chair for the first time without completely reading
and understanding this owner’s manual.
Your powerchairisastate-of-the-artlife-enhancementdevicedesignedtoincrease mobility.Prideprovidesanextensive
varietyofproductstobestfittheindividual needs of the power chair user. Please be aware thatthefinalselectionand
purchasing decision regarding the type of power chair to be used is the responsibility of the power chair user, who is
capableofmakingsucha decision,andhis/herhealthcareprofessional(i.e.,medicaldoctor,physical therapist,etc.).
Thecontentsofthismanual arebasedontheexpectationthatamobility deviceexperthasproperlyfitted thepowerchair
totheuserand hasassistedtheprescribing healthcareprofessionaland/orthe authorisedPrideDealerin the instruction
processfortheuseof the product.
Therearecertainsituations,includingsomemedicalconditions,wherethepowerchairuserwillneedtopracticeoperating
the power chair in the presence of a trained attendant.Atrained attendant can be defined as a family member or care
professionalspeciallytrainedinassistingapowerchairuserinvariousdailylivingactivities.
Asyoubeginusingyourpowerchairduringdailyactivities,youwillprobablyencountersituationsinwhichyouwillneed
somepractice.Simplytakeyour timeandyou willsoonbeinfull andconfidentcontrol asyoumanoeuvrethroughdoor-
ways,onand off oflifts,up and downrampsand over moderateterrain.
Beloware someprecautions,tipsandothersafetyconsiderationsthatwillhelpyoubecomeaccustomedtooperatingyour
powerchairsafely.
Modifications
Pridehasdesignedandengineeredyourpowerchairtoprovidemaximummobilityandutility.Awiderangeofaccessories
is available from your authorised Pride Dealer to further customise your power chair to better suit your needs and/or
preferences.However,undernocircumstancesshouldyoumodify, add,remove ordisableanyfeature,partorfunctionof
yourpowerchair.
WARNING! Do not modify your power chair in any way not authorised by Pride. Do not use
accessories if they have not been tested or approved for Pride products.
Pre-Ride Safety Check
Gettoknow the feelofyourpower chairanditscapabilities. Priderecommendsthatyou performasafetycheck before
eachuseto make sureyourpower chair operatessmoothlyand safely.
Performthefollowing inspectionspriortousing yourpowerchair:
!Checkforpropertyreinflation.Maintainbutdonotexceed2.4bar(35psi)ineachtyreifequippedwithpneumatictyres.
!Checkallelectrical connections.Makesurethey aretightand notcorroded.
!Checkallcontrollerconnections to thepowerbase.Make sure theyaresecuredproperly.
!Checkthebrakes.SeeVII. “Care and Maintenance.”
!Checkbatterycharge. SeeVI.“Batteriesand Charging.”

Weight Limitations
Yourpowerchairisratedfor amaximumweightcapacity.Pleaserefer tothespecificationstableforthislimit.
MANDATORY! Stay within the specified weight capacity of your power chair. Exceeding the weight
capacity voids your warranty. Pride will not be held responsible for injuries and/or property damage
resulting from failure to observe weight limitations.
WARNING! Do not carry passengers on your power chair. Carrying passengers on your power
chair may affect the centre of gravity, resulting in a tip or a fall.
Tyre Inflation
Ifyourpowerchairisequippedwithpneumatictyres,youshouldcheckorhavetheairpressure checkedregularly.Proper
inflationpressureswillprolongthelifeof yourtyresandhelpensure thesmoothoperationofyourpowerchair.
WARNING! It is important that 2.4 bar (35 psi) tyre pressure be maintained in pneumatic tyres at
all times. Do not underinflate or overinflate your tyres. Low pressure may result in loss of control,
and overinflated tyres may burst. Failure to maintain 2.4 bar (35 psi) tyre pressure in pneumatic
tyres at all times may result in tyre and/or wheel failure.
WARNING! Inflate your power chair drive tyres from a regulated air source with an available
pressure gauge. Inflating your tyres from an unregulated air source could overinflate them, resulting
in a burst tyre.
Incline Information
Moreandmorebuildingshaverampswithspecifieddegreesofinclination,designedforeasyandsafeaccess.Someramps
mayhaveturningswitchbacks(180-degreeturns)thatrequire youtohave goodcorneringskills onyourpowerchair.
!Proceedwithextreme caution asyouapproach thedowngradeofa ramporotherincline.
!Takewideswingswithyourpowerchair’sfrontwheelsaroundanytightcorners.Ifyoudothat,thepower chair’srear
wheelswillfollow awidearc, notcutthe cornershortandnotbumpintoorgethunguponanyrailingcorners.
!When driving down a ramp, keep the power chair’s speed adjustment set to the slowest speed setting to ensure a
safelycontrolled descent.
!Avoid suddenstopsandstarts.
Whenclimbinganincline,trytokeepyourpowerchairmoving.Ifyoumuststop,startupagainslowlyandthenaccelerate
cautiously.When driving down an incline, set your power chair to the slowest speed setting and drive in the forward
directiononly.Ifyour powerchairstartstomove downtheinclinefasterthan youanticipatedordesired,allow ittocome
toacomplete stopbyreleasingthejoystick, thenpushthe joystickforwardslightly toensurea safelycontrolleddescent.
WARNING! When on any sort of an incline or decline, never place the power chair in
freewheel mode while seated on it or standing next to it.
WARNING! When climbing an incline, do not zigzag or drive at an angle up the face of the
incline. Drive your power chair straight up the incline. This greatly reduces the possibility of
a tip or a fall. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline.
WARNING! You should not travel up or down a potentially hazardous incline (i.e., areas
covered with snow, ice, cut grass or wet leaves).
WARNING! Never travel down an incline rearward. Doing so may cause the power chair to
tip. Always exercise extreme caution when negotiating an incline.
WARNING! If your power chair is equipped with a reclining seatback, do not attempt to
negotiate inclines with the seat in a reclined position. Do not attempt to negotiate obstacles
with the seat in a reclined position unless an attendant is present to help stabilise the
chair. Failure to heed could result in the power chair tipping over.

WARNING! Even though your power chair is capable of climbing slopes greater than those illustrated
in figure 1, do not, under any circumstances, exceed the incline guidelines or any other
specifications presented in this manual. Doing so could cause instability in your power chair.
Priderecommendsthatthemaximumslopeofaninclineyouattempttosafelyascendordescendonyourpowerchairdoes
notexceed8.7%(5°).Seefigure1.
WARNING! Any attempt to climb or descend a slope steeper than 8.7% (5°) may put your power
chair in an unstable position and cause it to tip.

Freewheel Mode
Yourpowerchairisequippedwithtwomanualfreewheelleverstoallowformanualmanoeuvreabilitybyatrainedattendant.
Formore informationabouthowtoplaceyourpowerchairintoandoutoffreewheelmode,seeIII.“YourPowerChair.”
WARNING! Do not use your power chair in freewheel mode without an attendant present.
WARNING! Do not attempt to personally place your power chair in freewheel mode while
seated on it. Ask an attendant for assistance if necessary.
WARNING! Do not place your power chair in freewheel mode while on an incline or decline.
This could cause the chair to roll uncontrollably on its own.
Braking Information
Yourpowerchairisequippedwithtwopowerful brakesystems:
!Regenerative—useselectricityto rapidlyslowthevehiclewhen thejoystickreturnstothe centre/stopposition.
!DiscPark Brake—activatesmechanicallyafterregenerativebrakingslowsthevehicletonearstop,orwhenpoweris
removedfromthesystemforanyreason.
Cornering Information
Whileyourpowerchairisequippedwithfrontandrearcastorwheels,excessivelyhighcorneringspeedscanstillcreatethe
possibilityoftipping.Factorswhichaffectthepossibilityoftippinginclude,butarenotlimitedto:corneringspeed,steering
angle(how sharplyyouareturning),unevenroadsurfaces,inclinedroadsurfaces,ridingfromanareaoflowtractiontoan
area of high traction (such as passing from a grassy area to a paved area – especially at high speed while turning) and
abruptdirectionalchanges.Highcornering speeds are notrecommended.Ifyou feel that youmaytipoverin a corner,
reduceyourspeed andsteeringangle (i.e.,lessenthesharpness oftheturn) topreventyour powerchairfrom tipping.
WARNING! When cornering sharply, reduce your speed and maintain a stable centre of gravity.
This greatly reduces the possibility of a tip or fall.
Public Streets and Roadways
WARNING! You should not operate your power chair on public streets and roadways. Be aware
that it may be difficult for traffic to see you when you are seated on your power chair. Obey all
local pedestrian traffic rules. Wait until your path is clear of traffic, and then proceed with extreme
caution.

Outdoor Driving Surfaces
Yourpowerchairisdesignedtoprovideoptimumstabilityundernormaldrivingconditions—dry,levelsurfacescomposed
ofconcrete,blacktoportarmac.However,Priderecognisesthattherewillbe timeswhen youwillencounterothersurface
types.For thisreason, yourpower chairis designedtoperformadmirablyonpackedsoil,grassandgravel.Feelfreetouse
yourpowerchair safely onlawnsand inparkareas.
!Reduceyourpower chair’sspeedwhen drivingonuneventerrainand/orsoftsurfaces.
!Avoidtallgrassthatcanentangletherunninggear.
!Avoidlooselypacked gravelandsand.
!Ifyoufeelunsureabout adrivingsurface,avoidthatsurface.
Inclement Weather Precautions
Exposureofyourpowerchair toinclementweatherconditionsshould beavoidedwheneverpossible.If suddenlycaught
up in rain, snow, severe cold or heat while operating your power chair, proceed to shelter at the earliest opportunity.
Thoroughlydryyourpowerchair beforestoring,chargingoroperatingyour powerchair.
PROHIBITED! Operating in rain, snow, salt, mist/spray conditions and on icy/slippery surfaces can
have an adverse affect on the electrical system. Maintain and store your power chair in a dry and
clean condition.
WARNING! Prolonged exposure to hot or cold conditions may affect the temperature of upholstered
and non-upholstered items on the power chair, possibly resulting in skin irritation. Exercise caution
when using the power chair in extremely hot or cold conditions or when exposing your power
chair to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time.
Stationary Obstacles (Steps, Kerbs, etc.)
Proceedwithextremecaution when drivingnearraisedsurfaces,unprotected ledges and/ordrop-offs(kerbs,porches,
stairs,etc.).Besureyourpowerchairistravelingperpendiculartoanykerb youmay berequiredtonavigate.Seefigure2.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair climb or descend an obstacle that is higher
than 5 cm (2 in.) unless you have the assistance of an attendant.
WARNING! If your power chair is equipped with a kerb climber, do not attempt to climb any kerb
in excess of 5 cm (2 in.) in height. Do not approach kerbs at an angle; instead approach any kerb
you intend to ascend or descend in the forward position.
WARNING! Do not attempt to have your power chair proceed rearward down any step, kerb or
other obstacle. This may cause the power chair to tip.

Stairs and Escalators
Powerchairsarenot designedtotravelup or downstairsorescalators.Always use alift.
WARNING! Never use your power chair to negotiate steps or escalators.
Doors
!Determineifthe dooropenstowardor awayfromyou.
!Driveyour powerchair gentlyand slowlyforward topushthedooropen.Ordriveyourpowerchairgentlyandslowly
rearwardtopullthedoor open.
Lifts
Modernliftshave adooredge safetymechanismthat, whenpushed,reopens theliftdoor(s).
!Ifyouarein the doorwayofalift when thedoor(s)beginto close, pushontherubber dooredgeorallow the rubber
dooredgetocontactthe power chair andthedoorwillreopen.
!Usecarethathandbags, packages orpowerchairaccessoriesdo not becomecaughtinlift doors.
Lift/Elevation Products
Ifyou willbetravelingwithyourpowerchair,youmayfinditnecessarytousealift/elevationproducttoaidintransporta-
tion.Priderecommendsthatyou closely reviewtheinstructions,specificationsand safety information setforthbythe
manufacturerof thelift/elevation productbefore usingthat product.
WARNING! Never sit on your power chair when it is being used in connection with any
type of lift/elevation product. Your power chair was not designed with such use in mind
and any damage or injury incurred from such use is not the responsibility of Pride.
Motor Vehicle Transport
Priderecommendsthatyoudo notremainseatedinyourpowerchair whiletravelinginamotor vehicle.Thepowerchair
shouldbestowedinthe boot of a carorintheback of a truckorvanwithbatteries removed and properly secured.
WARNING! Do not sit on your power chair while it is in a moving vehicle.
WARNING! Always be sure your power chair and its batteries are properly secured when it is being
transported. Batteries should be secured in an upright position and protective caps should be
installed on the battery terminals. Batteries should not be transported with any flammable or
combustible items.
Positioning Belts
YourauthorisedPrideDealer,therapist(s)andotherhealthcareprofessionalsareresponsiblefordeterminingyourrequire-
mentforapositioningbeltinordertooperateyourpowerchairsafely.Typically,thepositioningbeltisnotdesignedforuse
asarestrainingdeviceinamotor vehicle.
Positioningbeltsshouldbe installed asdetailedinthis manual. SeeV. “ComfortAdjustments.”Onceinstalled, the belt
shouldbeplacedacross the pelvisasdeterminedby the user’s healthcare dealer.Anchor pointsofthepositioning belts
shouldbelocatedsothataprojected side-view angle of the pelvis isbetween30°–75°ofhorizontaldependingon the
user’s weight,postureandseatcushion thickness.
WARNING! If you require a positioning belt to safely operate your power chair, make sure it is
fastened securely in order to reduce the possibility of a fall from the power chair.
WARNING! The positioning belt is not designed for use as a seat belt in a motor vehicle.

Batteries
In addition to following the warnings below, be sure to comply with all other battery handling information. For more
informationaboutyourpowerchair’sbatteries,seeVI. “BatteriesandCharging.”
MANDATORY! Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead
compounds. Wear goggles and gloves when handling batteries and wash hands after
handling.
WARNING! Power chair batteries are heavy. See specifications table. If you are unable
to lift that much weight, be sure to get help. Use proper lifting techniques and avoid
lifting beyond your capacity.
WARNING! Always protect the batteries from freezing and never charge a frozen battery.
Charging a frozen battery may result in damage to the battery.
WARNING! Connect the battery harnesses in the proper manner. RED (+) cables must
be connected to positive (+) battery terminals/posts. BLACK (-) cables must be
connected to negative (-) battery terminals/posts. Protective caps should be installed
over all battery terminals. REPLACE cables immediately if damaged.
Removable Parts
WARNING! Do not attempt to lift or move a power chair by any of its removable parts, including
the armrests, seat, foot riggings, controller and shrouds.
Preventing Unintended Movement
WARNING! If you anticipate being seated in a stationary position for an extended period of
time, turn off the power. This will prevent unexpected motion from inadvertent joystick contact.
This will also eliminate the possibility of unintended chair movement from electromagnetic
(EM) sources.
Reaching and Bending
Neverreach,leanorbendwhiledrivingyour powerchair.Ifit isabsolutelynecessary toreach,leanorbend whileseated
onyourpowerchair, it is importanttomaintainastable centre of gravityandkeepthepower chair from tipping.Pride
recommendsthatthepower chair user determinehis/herpersonallimitations and practicebendingandreachingin the
presenceofaqualifiedhealthcareprofessional.
WARNING! Keep your hands away from the tyres when driving. Be aware that loose
fitting clothing can become caught in drive tyres.
WARNING! Do not bend, lean or reach for objects if you have to pick them up from the
floor by reaching down between your knees or if you have to reach over the back of
the seat. Movements such as these may change your centre of gravity and the weight
distribution of the power chair. This may cause your power chair to tip.

Transfers
Transferring onto and off of your power chair requires a
goodsense ofbalance.Alwayshave anattendantorhealth-
careprofessionalpresentwhilelearningtoproperlytransfer
yourself.
Toeliminatethepossibilityofinjury,Priderecommendsthat
youora trainedattendantperformthe followingtasksbe-
foreattemptingatransfer:
!Turnoffthe powertothecontroller.
!Ensureyourpowerchairisnotinfreewheelmode.See

!Turnthe castorwheelstoward thetransferdestination
toimprove powerchair stabilityduringtransfer.
!Make sure both armrests are flipped up or removed

User Positioning
Priderecommendsthatall usersbeseatedin an uprightpositionwith their pelvispositionedasfar rearwardaspossible
in the power chair seat.All users need to discuss pelvic positioning with their authorised Pride Dealer, therapist(s) or
healthcare professional to determine appropriate pelvic position when seated on the power chair based on the user’s
individualmedical needs.
Prescription Drugs/Physical Limitations
Usersmust exercisecareandcommonsensewhenoperatingapowerchair.This includesawareness ofsafetyissueswhen
takingprescribedorover-the-counterdrugsorwhen theuserhasspecificphysical limitations.
WARNING! Consult your physician if you are taking prescribed or over-the-counter medication or
if you have certain physical limitations. Some medications and limitations may impair your ability
to operate your power chair in a safe manner.

Alcohol/Smoking
Thepowerchairusermustexercisecareandcommonsensewhenoperatinghis/herpowerchair.Thisincludesawareness
ofsafetyissueswhileundertheinfluenceofalcoholorwhilesmoking.
WARNING! Do not operate your power chair while you are under the influence of alcohol, as this
may impair your ability to operate your power chair in a safe manner.
WARNING! Pride strongly recommends that you do not smoke cigarettes while seated in your
power chair, although the powerchair has passed the necessary testing requirements for cigarette
smoking. You must adhere to the following safety guidelines if you decide to smoke cigarettes
while seated in your power chair.
!Do not leave lit cigarettes unattended.
!Keep ashtrays a safe distance from the seat cushions.
!Always make sure cigarettes are completely extinguished before disposal.
Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference (EMI/RFI)
WARNING! Laboratory tests have shown that electromagnetic and radio frequency waves can
have an adverse affect on the performance of electrically-powered mobility vehicles.
ElectromagneticandRadioFrequencyInterferencecancomefrom sources such as cellular phones, mobile two-way
radios(suchas walkie-talkies),radiostations, TVstations,amateurradio (HAM)transmitters,wireless computerlinks,
microwavesignals,pagingtransmittersandmedium-rangemobiletransceiversusedbyemergencyvehicles.Insomecases,
thesewavescancauseunintendedmovementordamagetothecontrolsystem.Everyelectrically-poweredmobilityvehicle
hasanimmunity(orresistance)toEMI.Thehighertheimmunitylevel,thegreatertheprotectionagainstEMI.Thisproduct
hasbeentested andhaspassedat animmunitylevel of20V/m.
WARNING! Be aware that cell phones, two-way radios, laptops and other types of radio transmitters
may cause unintended movement of your electrically-powered mobility vehicle due to EMI.
Exercise caution when using any of these items while operating your mobility vehicle and avoid
coming into close proximity of radio and TV stations.
WARNING! The addition of accessories or components to the electrically-powered mobility vehicle
can increase the susceptibility of the vehicle to EMI. Do not modify your power chair in any way
not authorised by Pride.
WARNING! The electrically-powered mobility vehicle itself can disturb the performance of other
electrical devices located nearby, such as alarm systems.
NOTE: For further information on EMI/RFI, go to the Resource Center on www.pridemobility.com. If
unintended motion or brake release occurs, turn your power chair off as soon as it is safe to do so. Call your
authorised Pride Dealer to report the incident.

THE JAZZY 1103 ULTRA
The Jazzy 1103 Ultra has two main assemblies: the seat and the power base. See figures 5 and 6. Typically, the seat

MainCircuitBreaker:The maincircuit breakerisasafetyfeaturebuiltintoyourpowerchair.Whenthebatteriesandthe
motorsare heavilystrained (e.g.,fromexcessiveloads),themaincircuitbreakertripstopreventdamagetothemotorsand
theelectronics. Ifthecircuittrips,allowyourpowerchairto“rest”forapproximatelyoneminute.Next,pushinthecircuit
breakerbutton,turn onthecontroller,andcontinue normaloperation.Ifthemaincircuitbreakercontinues totriprepeat-

Manual Freewheel Levers
Yourpowerchairhasamanualfreewheelleveroneachmotor.Manualfreewheelleversenableyoutodisengagethedrive
motorsfromthegearboxesandmanoeuvrethechairmanually.
WARNING! Do not use the power chair while the drive motors are disengaged! Do not
disengage the drive motors when the power chair is on an incline, as the unit could roll
on its own. Only engage the freewheel mode when on a level surface.
WARNING! It is important to remember that when your power chair is in freewheel mode,
the braking system is disengaged.
To engage ordisengage the drive motors:
1. Locatetheleveron top of eachmotor.
2. Pushthetwo leversinwardtoengage thedrivemotors (drivemode).Seefigure 8.
3. Pullthetwo leversoutwardto disengagethedrive motors(freewheelmode). Seefigure9.
Ifaleverisdifficult tomoveineitherdirection,slightlyrockthepowerchair backandforth. Thelevershouldthenmove
tothedesired position.
WARNING! Do not use the freewheel lever handles as tie-down points to secure this product.
