614 power chairs equipped with Dynamic electronics.
This guide is divided into three sections:
Section 1 — No Power
Section 2 — Battery Condition Meter Diagnostics
Section 3 — Flash Code Diagnostics
How to Use Pride Model Specific Technical Troubleshooting Guides
All Pride Model Specific Technical Troubleshooting Guides follow the same format. They are divided into sections address-
ing symptoms such as No Power or Unit Powers Up But Does Not Drive. If the mobility product is capable of giving fault
codes, one section will deal with each code for that model.
The troubleshooting guide utilizes diagrams that are located on the insert(s) of the guide. See figure 1. These diagrams
identify main components by number (1, 2, 3, etc.) and all connectors by number with a lower case extension (1a, 2a, 3a,
etc.). The diagrams also show how all of the components are connected.
Using the Table of Contents, locate the section that best describes your troubleshooting issue. Each section will include a
list of symptoms, followed by a diagnosis of the problem, and finally a solution or procedure to solve the problem. The
procedure is set up as a numbered list of instructions, which may include one or more tests. Results of these tests will:
Direct you to change a component and retest the system.
Go to the next numbered step.
Advance to a numbered step farther along in the section.

System Retest
When a procedure specifies to replace a compo-
nent, you must retest the system after replacing
that component.
To retest the system:
1. Replace the component.
2. Reconnect any harnesses that were
disconnected.
3. Reconnect the batteries (if disconnected).
4. Power on the controller.
5. Operate the power base.
—If the power base operates normally, then
reassemble the power chair.
—If another problem has surfaced, then go to
that procedure in this guide.

SECTION 1 - NO POWER
Symptoms:
The battery condition meter LEDs do not light up when the
on/off key is depressed.
Diagnosis:
There is a power interrupt in the system.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to find the source of the interruption:
1. Measure voltage across pin 1 (B+) and pin 2 (B-) of the
off-board charger programming socket (connector 1a).
See figure 2.
— If the multimeter indicates 0VDC , then go to the next step.
—If the multimeter indicates greater than 18VDC, then
replace the Dynamic joystick (1) and retest the system.
—If the multimeter indicates less than 18VDC (but not
0VDC), then recharge the batteries and retest the system.
2. Unplug connector 4b from connector 1b. See diagram 2 .
3. Measure voltage across pin 2 and pin 3 on connector 4b.
See figure 3.
— If the multimeter indicates 0VDC , then go to the next step.
— If the multimeter indicates greater than 0VDC, then
replace the Dynamic joystick (1) and retest the system.
4. Unplug connector 3b from connector 4a. See diagram 2 .
5. Measure voltage across pin 2 and pin 3 on connector 3b.
See figure 4.
— If the multimeter indicates 0VDC , then go to the next step.
—If the multimeter indicates greater than 0VDC, then
replace the Dynamic bus cable (4) and retest the system.
6. Remove the seat. Refer to the power base owner’s manual.
7. Remove the rear shroud. See figure 5.

8. Remove the front shroud. See figure 6.
9. Unplug connector 3a from connector 2a. See diagram 2 .
10. Measure voltage across pin 1 and pin 4 on connector 2a.
See figure 7.
— If the multimeter indicates0VDC , then go to the next step.
—If the multimeter indicates greater than 0VDC, then
replace the Dynamic bus cable extension (3) and retest
the system.
11. Unplug connector 5a from connector 2d. See diagram 2 .
12. Measure voltage across pin 1 and pin 2 on connector 5a.
See figure 8.
— If the multimeter indicates0VDC , then go to the next step.
—If the multimeter indicates greater than 0VDC, then
replace the Dynamic power module (2) and retest the
system.
13. Unplug connector 6a from connector 5b and connector
7a from connector 5c. See diagram 2.
MANDATORY! Battery posts,
terminals, and related accessories
contain lead and lead compounds.
Wear goggles and gloves when
handling batteries and wash hands
after handling.
WARNING! Always protect the
batteries from freezing and never
charge a frozen battery. Charging a
frozen battery may result in damage to
the battery.
WARNING! RED (+) cables must be
connected to positive (+) battery
terminals/posts. BLACK (-) cables
must be connected to negative (-)
battery terminals/posts. Protective
caps should be installed over all
battery terminals. REPLACE cables
immediately if damaged.
14. Measure voltage across pin 1 and pin 2 on connector 6a.
See figure 9.
— If the multimeter indicates greater than 0VDC, then go
to step 16.
— If the multimeter indicates0VDC, then go to the next step.

— If the multimeter indicates 0VDC, then replace both bat-
teries and retest the system.
—If the multimeter indicates greater than 0VDC, then
replace the rear battery harness (6) and retest the system.

16. Measure voltage across pin 1 and pin 2 of connector 7a.
See figure 10.
— If the multimeter indicates 0VDC , then go to the next step.
— If the multimeter indicates greater than 0VDC, then go to
step 18 .
17. Measure voltage across connector 7b and connector 7c.
See diagram 3.
— If the multimeter indicates 0VDC, then replace both bat-
teries and retest the system.
—If the multimeter indicates greater than 0VDC, then
replace the front battery harness (7) and retest the system.
From step 16
18. Measure resistance across the two terminals of the cir-
cuit breaker (13). See figure 11.
— If the multimeter indicates about 1 ohm, then replace the
power interface harness (5) and retest the system.
—If the multimeter indicates an open, then replace the cir-
cuit breaker (13) and retest the system.

PROHIBITED! Never use an extension cord to plug in your battery charger. Plug the charger
directly into a properly wired standard electrical outlet.
PROHIBITED! Removal of the grounding prong can create an electrical hazard. If necessary,
properly install an approved 3-pronged adapter to an electrical outlet having 2-pronged plug
access.

SECTION 2 - BATTERY CONDITION METER DIAGNOSTICS
Battery Condition Meter LEDs Ripple Left to Right/Steady Display
Symptoms:
The LEDs ripple from left to right, then alternate with a steady display.
When the joystick is moved, the speed setting indicator flashes.
Diagnosis:
The Dynamic joystick (1) has a short between pins 2 and 3 on the off-board charger/programming socket (connector 1a).
This safety feature will keep the power chair from operating when an off-board charger is connected by shorting out
these two pins.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to find the source of the fault:
1. Ensure there is nothing plugged into the off-board charger programming socket (connector 1a).
2. Turn the controller power off, then back on.
— If the battery condition meter LEDs still ripple left to right then alternate with a steady display, then go to the next
step.
3. Unplug the run plug (10) from connector 2b. See diagram 2.
4. Measure resistance across pin 1 and pin 4 of the run plug (10), then across pin 3 and pin 4. See figure 12.
— If the multimeter indicates less than 1 ohm for both tests, then replace the Dynamic joystick (1) and retest the system.
— If the multimeter indicates an open on either test, then replace the run plug (10) and retest the system.
Left Red Battery Condition Meter LED
Flashing
Symptoms:
The Left Red Battery Condition Meter LED is flashing.
Diagnosis:
The battery voltage to the Dynamic power module (2) is
low. This is most likely due to batteries that are not getting
charged properly or at all. Figure 12. Run Plug (10)
Solution:
Use the following procedure to find the source of the fault:
1. Measure voltage across pin 1 (B+) and pin 2 (B-) on connector 1a. See figure 2.
— If the multimeter indicates less than 18VDC (but not 0VDC), then go to step 8.
— If the multimeter indicates 0VDC, then replace the Dynamic joystick (1) and retest the system.
— If the multimeter indicates greater than 18VDC, then go to the next step.
2. Plug connector 11b into connector 1a (see diagram 2) and then plug connector 12b into a standard electrical outlet.

3. Observe the status indicator lights on the charger to
determine if it has power and is charging.
NOTE: Refer to the manual supplied with the charger for
status indicator light information.
— If the off-board charger status indicator lights do not
turn on, then go to the next step.
— If the off-board charger status indicator lights turn on
and indicate that the charger is charging, then allow the
batteries to charge for 8-14 hours and retest the system.
— If the off-board charger status indicator lights indicate
that the charger has power but is not charging, then
replace the off-board charger (11) and retest the system.
4. Unplug connector 12a from connector 11a. See dia-
gram 2. (If the charger power cord is hardwired to the
off-board charger, then go to step 6).
5. Measure voltage across pin 1 and pin 2 and across pin 1
and 3 of connector 12a. See figure 13.
— If the multimeter indicates about 120VAC for both tests,
then replace the off-board charger (11) and retest the
system.
— If the multimeter does not indicate about 120VAC for
both tests, then go to the next step.
From step 4
6. Unplug connector 12b from the electrical outlet.
7. Measure voltage across pin 2 and pin 3 and across pin 1

— If the multimeter indicates about 120VAC for both tests, then replace the power cord (12) and retest the system. (If
the power cord is hardwire to the charger, then replace the off-board charger (11) and retest the system.)
— If the multimeter does not indicate about 120VAC for both tests, then try a different electrical outlet and retest the
system.
From step 1
8. Remove the front shroud. See figure 6.
9. Measure voltage across connectors 6b and 7c. If 0VDC is read, then measure voltage across connectors 6c and 7b.
See diagram 3.
— If the multimeter indicates the same voltage as measured in step 1, then the batteries are too low to charge with the
off-board charger. Take the batteries to an authorized service center for load testing and charging.
— If the multimeter indicates a different voltage than measured in step 1, then go to the next step.
10. Unplug connector 5a from connector 2d. See diagram 2.
11. Measure voltage across pin 1 and pin 2 on connector 5a. See figure 15.
— If the multimeter indicates the same voltage as measured in step 9, then go to step 16.
— If the multimeter indicates a different voltage than measured in step 9, then go to the next step.

13. Measure voltage across pin 1and pin 2 on connector 6a,
then measure voltage across connectors 6b and 6c. See
figure 16.
— If the multimeter indicates the same voltage for both
tests, then go to the next step.
— If the multimeter does not indicate the same voltage for
both tests, then replace the rear battery harness (6) and
retest the system.
14. Measure voltage across pin 1and pin 2 on connector 7a,
then measure voltage across connectors 7b and 7c. See
figure 17.
— If the multimeter indicates the same voltage for both
tests, then go to the next step.
— If the multimeter does not indicate the same voltage for
both tests, then replace the front battery harness (7) and
retest the system.
15. Measure resistance across the two terminals of the cir-
cuit breaker (13). See figure 11.
— If the multimeter indicates less than 1 ohm, then replace
the power interface harness (5) and retest the system.
— If the multimeter indicates greater than 1 ohm, then
replace the circuit breaker (13) and retest the system.
From step 11
16. Unplug connector 3a from connector 2a. See diagram 2 .
17. Measure resistance from pin 1 on connector 2a to pin 1
on connector 2d and measure resistance from pin 4 on
connector 2a to pin 2 on connector 2d.
See figure 18 .
— If the multimeter indicates less than 1 ohm for both
tests, then go to the next step.
— If the multimeter indicates greater than 1 ohm for either
test, then replace the Dynamic power module (2) and
retest the system.

18. Disconnect connector 3b from connector 4a. See diagram 2.
19. Measure resistance from pin 2 on connector 3a to pin 2 on connector 3b and pin 3 on connector 3a to pin 3 on
connector 3b. See figure 19.
— If the multimeter indicates greater than 1 ohm for either test, then replace the Dynamic bus cable extension (3) and
retest the system.
— If the multimeter indicates less than 1 ohm for both tests, then go to the next step.

20. Disconnect connector 4b from connector 1b. See dia-
gram 2.
21. Measure resistance from pin 2 on connector 4a to pin 2
on connector 4b and from pin 3 on connector 4a to pin 3
on connector 4b. See figure 20.
— If the multimeter indicates greater than 1 ohm for either
test,
then replace the Dynamic bus cable (4) and retest the
system.
— If the multimeter indicates less than 1 ohm for both
tests, then replace the Dynamic joystick (1) and retest
the system.

Battery Condition Meter LEDs Ripple Right to Left
Symptoms:
The battery condition meter LEDs ripple from right to left.
Diagnosis:
The Dynamic joystick (1) is in Lock Out mode.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to unlock the Dynamic joystick (1):
1. Turn on the power to the controller.
2. The battery condition meter LEDs will scroll up, then ripple from right to left. If the controller remains on for more
than 15 seconds (approximately), the controller will power down.
3. Turn on the power to the Dynamic joystick (1).
4. Press the horn key twice within ten seconds while the battery condition meter LEDs ripple from right to left.
SECTION 3 - FLASH CODE DIAGNOSTICS
Steady Flash of Speed Setting Indicator LEDs
Symptoms:
The speed setting indicator LEDs are flashing steadily.
Diagnosis:
The Dynamic joystick (1) was out of the neutral (center) position during the power up process. This feature will prevent
the chair from moving if the joystick is accidentally moved when the on/off key is pressed.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to clear this fault:
1. Make sure there is no physical damage to the Dynamic joystick (1) which might prevent it from returning to the
neutral (center) position.
2. Press the on/off key to turn off power to the controller.
3. Make sure the Dynamic joystick (1) is in the neutral (center) position and press the on/off key to turn on power to
the controller.
— If the Dynamic joystick (1) still displays the fault, then replace the Dynamic joystick (1) and retest the system.

Flash Code #1 - User Fault/Stall Timeout
Symptoms:
The service indicator (amber wrench-shaped LED) flashes once, followed by a pause.
Diagnosis:
There is a Stall Timeout fault, indicating that the motors are demanding too much current from the controller for an
extended period of time. This may be caused by motors which are unable to turn freely. This fault will typically clear
itself after the stall conditions are removed.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to find the source of the fault:
1. Turn off the Dynamic joystick (1), then turn it back on and try to operate the power chair.
— If the fault occurs again, then make sure the right and left motors (8 and 9) are not physically obstructed.
— If the motors are not physically obstructed, then replace the Dynamic power module (2) and retest the system.
Flash Code #2 - Battery Fault
Symptoms:
The service indicator (amber wrench-shaped LED) flashes two times, followed by a pause.
Diagnosis:
The battery voltage to the Dynamic power module (2) is about 20VDC. This is most likely due to a damaged or improp-
erly charged battery.
Solution:
Please see “Left Red Battery Condition Meter LED Flashing” in section 2 of this technical troubleshooting guide.
Flash Code #3 - Left Motor Fault
Symptoms:
The service indicator (amber wrench-shaped LED) flashes
three times, followed by a pause.
Diagnosis:
There is a left motor harness open.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to clear the fault code:
1. Remove the front shroud. See figure 6.

2. Unplug connector 9a from the connector (2e). See diagram 2.
3. Measure resistance across pin 1 and pin 2 of connector 9a. See figure 21.
— If the multimeter does not indicate 0.5 - 1.5 ohms, then replace the left motor (9) and retest the system.
— If the multimeter indicates about 0.5 - 1.5 ohms, then replace the Dynamic power module (2) and retest the system.

Flash Code #4 - Right Motor Fault
Symptoms:
The service indicator (amber wrench-shaped LED) flashes
four times, followed by a pause.
Diagnosis:
There is a right motor harness open.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to clear the fault code:
1. Remove the front shroud. See figure 6.
2. Unplug connector 8a from connector 2c. See diagram2 .

— If the multimeter does not indicate 0.5 - 1.5 ohms, then
replace the right motor (8) and retest the system.
— If the multimeter indicates about 0.5 - 1.5 ohms, then
replace the Dynamic power module (2) and retest the
system.

Flash Code #5 - Left Park Brake Fault
Symptoms:
The service indicator (amber wrench-shaped LED) flashes five times, followed by a pause.
Diagnosis:
There is a left park brake open.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to clear the fault code:
1. Ensure that both freewheel levers are in drive mode. Refer to the freewheel operation label on the front shroud.
2. Remove the front shroud. See figure 6.
3. Unplug connector 9a from connector 2e. See diagram 2.
4. Measure resistance across pin 3 and pin 4 of connector 9a. See figure 23.
— If the multimeter indicates about 35 ohms, then replace the Dynamic power module (2) and retest the system.
— If the multimeter does not indicate about 35 ohms, then replace the left brake assembly and retest the system.

Flash Code #6 - Right Park Brake Fault
Symptoms:
The service indicator (amber wrench-shaped LED) flashes
six times, followed by a pause.
Diagnosis:
There is a right park brake open.
Solution:
Use the following procedure to clear the fault code:

3. Unplug connector 8a from connector 2c. See diagram 2.

— If the multimeter does not indicate about 35 ohms, then replace the right brake assembly and retest the system.

Symptoms:
The service indicator (amber wrench-shaped LED) flashes seven, eight, nine, ten, or eleven times, followed by a pause.
Diagnosis:
Faulty joystick
Faulty power module
Faulty communications between the joystick and power module
Solution:
Use the following procedure to clear the fault code:
1. Remove the seat. Refer to the power chair owner’s manual.
2. Remove the front and rear shrouds. See figures 5 and 6.
3. Unplug connector 4b from connector 1b and unplug connector 4a from connector 3b. See diagram 2.

4. Measure resistance across the following ( see figure 25 ):
pin 1 on connector 4a and pin 1 on connector 4b
pin 2 on connector 4a and pin 2 on connector 4b
pin 3 on connector 4a and pin 3 on connector 4b
pin 4 on connector 4a and pin 4 on connector 4b
— If the multimeter indicates an open on ANY of the above
measurements, then replace the Dynamic bus cable (4)
and retest the system.
— If the multimeter indicates less than 1 ohm on all mea-
surements, then go to the next step.
5. Unplug connector 3a from connector 2a. See diagram 2 .
6. Measure resistance across the following (
see figure 26) :
pin 1 on connector 3a and pin 1 on connector 3b
pin 2 on connector 3a and pin 2 on connector 3b
pin 3 on connector 3a and pin 3 on connector 3b
pin 4 on connector 3a and pin 4 on connector 3b
— If the multimeter indicates an open on ANY of these
measurements, then replace the Dynamic bus cable
extension (3) and retest the system.
— If the multimeter indicates less than 1 ohm on ALL of
these measurements, then go to the next step.
7. Check connectors 1b, 4a, 4b, 3a, and 3b for damage or
corrosion.
— If damage or corrosion is present, then clear the corro-
sion or replace the damaged part and retest the system.
— If no damage or corrosion is present, then replace the
Dynamic power module (2) and retest the system.
— If replacing the power module does not resolve the
problem, then replace the Dynamic joystick (1) and
retest the system.
