I.IntroductiontoAir‐Q1100
TheAir‐Q1100applianceisanairtreatmentsystemforinteriorspacesservedbyaductedHVACair
handlingsystem(“HVAC”).TheAir‐Q1100deliversafragranceorairtreatmentagent(“Agents”)
intotheairflowoftheHVACsystemeitherthroughthecentralfanunit(CFU)oratsuitable
locationsinthebranchedductwork.Itisdesignedforpermanentinstallationontheoutsideor
insideoftheCFU.
TheAir‐Q1100ismanagedbyanon‐boardcomputerthatisfullyprogrammableforspacesizes
from1,000to250,000cubicfeetperapplianceandoneormoreintensitylevelsinthesameday.
MultipleappliancescanworktogetheronthesameormultipleCFUstotreattheairinthesame
spacesservedbytheHVAC.Inthisway,thereisnolimitationonthesizeofthespacethatcanbe
servedbyAir‐Q1100.
Air‐Q1100requireslittletonomaintenanceexceptperiodiccleaningforappearance.Installations
ofAir‐Q1100aredesignedsothattheconsumptionoftheconsumableCartridgesofAgent
(“Cartridges”)requiresreplacementnomorefrequentlythanonceamonth.
TypicalAir‐Q1100applicationsincludeairtreatmentforodorremediation,scentbrandingand
ambientscentinginpublicspacessuchascasinos,malls,hotels,theaters,ballrooms,convention
centers,hospitals,andrestrooms.
TheAir‐Q1100generatesultrafine,ultra‐lightdropletsapproximately500nanometersin
diameter.Bycomparison,adropletfromapressurizedaerosolis50microns(50000nanometers)in
diameteror166timeslargerthananAir‐Q1100droplet.Intermsofweightandvolumeofliquid,
thecomparisonisevenmoredramatic.A50‐micronaerosoldropletis4.6milliontimesheavier
thana300‐nanometerAir‐Qdroplet.1ThistinyAir‐Qdropletoffersmanyperformancebenefits
overaconventionalaerosolincluding:completelyuniformdistributionofthetreatmentagent;100
timesmoreexposedsurfaceareaallowinguseofmuchlessairtreatmentagentpercubicfoot;and
theabsenceofanyliquiddepositsonsurfacessuchastheinteriorsurfacesinaHVACsystem.
TheAir‐Q1100Guideispackedwithimportantinformationthatwillhelptheusers,installersand
serviceengineersoptimizetheperformanceofthismodernairtreatmentsystem.Weencourage
youtoreaditcarefully.

Air‐Q1100isusedwithproprietaryfragrancesandodorremediationagents(“Agents”)toenhance
indoorairqualitybyerasingodorsandintroducingscent.Thisisaccomplishedbyconvertingliquid‐
stateAgentsintoultra‐finedropletsandinjectingthemintothemintotheHVACsystemtoblend
withtheairflow.Usedasdirected,theconcentrationofAgentintheairwillusuallybelessthan1
partpermillion(<1ppm).Thismeansthatforevery1,000,000moleculesofair,lessthan1
moleculeisairtreatmentAgent.TheAir‐Q1100’sdropletsareabout500nanometersindiameter
(halfamicron).Adropletofthissizepresents10,000timesmoresurfaceareatotheairthanthe
sameamountofliquidina50‐micronaerosoldroplet.TheAir‐Qdropletis1/1,000,000ththeweight
ofanaerosoldroplet.Thismeansthedropletsbehaveasiftheyweredry,donotleaveanyresidue
onthebladesorinteriorductsurfacesandcreatescenteffectwithconcentrationssolowitus
unlikelytotriggerallergicresponse.
TherearetwobasicapplicationsforAir‐Q1100:ambientscentingandodorremediation.TheAir‐Q
1100deliverysystemandProlitec’sproprietaryairtreatmentchemistrycandobothatthesame
timeoreitheronealone.
1.AmbientScenting
AmbientScentingistheuseoftheAir‐Q1100todeliverascenttocreateamoodor
ambience,associateascentwithabrand,enhanceavisualthemeorsimplymakeaspace
morepleasantforitsoccupants.
2.OdorControl
OdorControlistheuseofAir‐Q1100andspecialairtreatmentchemistrytoneutralize
odorsbyblockingcertainmalodorsthusallowingtheintroductionofverysmallquantities
offragranceintotheair.Normalairfreshenerssimplyusefragrancetodouseamalodor.

A.Air‐Q1100AppliancePrecautions:
• Theappliancemustbeoperatedinanuprightorverticalpositionandfirmlyattachedtoa
verticalsurfacesuchasawalloraduct.
• TheapplianceshouldNOTbeusedwiththedoorintheopenposition.Thedoorisopened
onlytoperformacartridgeorprogramchange.
• NEVERputyournosetotheoutputofAir‐Q.Within12inchesoftheoutput,thefragranceis
highlyconcentrated.Theimproperinhalationofhighconcentrationsoffragrancemaycause
irritationincludingwateryeyes,headache,coughandupperrespiratorydiscomfort.
• Theapplianceisbuilttobepluggedintoan110VACor220VACpoweroutlet.TheULandCE
compliantpowersupplyconvertspowerto12VDCtopowertheappliance.
• Unplugbeforecleaning.
B.Air‐QCartridgePrecautions
• ReadtheProductSafetyInformationSheetandtheMaterialSafetyDataSheetenclosed
providedwitheachshipmentofCartridges.Insurethattheseinformationsheetsare
availableforreviewbyemployees
• UselatexglovestohandleaCartridgetoavoidtheliquidgettingonhands.TheAgentsare
formulatedsoastonotbeharmfulincontactwiththeskin,buttheconcentratednatureof
theagentsmakesthescentdifficulttoremovefromhandsandskin.
• WashyourhandsafterallcontactwithCartridgesorfragranceandairtreatmentagents.
• CartridgesmustbeprovidedbyandcontainAirTreatmentAgentformulationswhichhave
beencertifiedbyProlitec.
• WhileAir‐QAirTreatmentAgentsdonotcontainingredientsdeemedharmfultotheskin,if
thereisskincontact,washwithsoapandwater.Ifthereiscontactwiththeeyes,irrigate
theeyewithfreshwaterfor5minutes.Ifthereisanyeyeirritation,consultaphysician
immediately.

A.ChangingtheCartridge
• Unlatchandopenthedoortoaccessthecartridge:Thedoorshouldbeopenedonlyto
performacartridgeorprogrammingchange.Wheninuse,thedoormustbeclosed.
1.Removeairnozzle(locatedonthesideofthecartridgehead)byrotating90degreesand
pullingtowardsyou.(SeePicture#1)
2.DetachInjectorhoseandhoseconnectorfromthecartridgeoutputport(locatedonthe
topofthecartridgehead).Thisisdonebyunscrewingthehoseconnectorfromthe
cartridgeoutputportandpullingout.
3.Removecartridgefromapplianceenclosure.
4.Installnewcartridge,placeandtightenhoseconnectorfirmlyoncartridgeoutputport.
5.Insertairnozzleandrotatethehandle90degreesuntilsecured(bystemretainingtab
oncartridgehead).(SeePicture#2)
6.Turnapplianceon.Verifythattheplumeisnotescapinginsidetheapplianceandthatall
connectionsaretight.Closethedoorwhencomplete.
B.O‐ringReplacement–every6monthsorasneeded:
• Replacetheairnozzle3o‐rings(Partnumber10208) ifworedownorswollen.Apartiallyfull
cartridgemayindicateanairleakbetweentheairnozzleandthecartridge,reducingplume
output.Replaceasneededand/oreverysixmonthsforpreventativemaintenance.
• IfthereisanyAgentthatleaksduringthecartridgeinstallation,cleanitcarefullywitha
papertowelwithsomeethanoloranotheralcohol.
C.AirFilter–every6monthsorasneeded.
• Replaceairfilter(partnumber10417) ifdirty.Ifanydusthasgatheredinsidetheunit,
removeitwithadamppapertowel.

Itisimportanttofindaninsertionpointwheretheplumeoutputwillbesmoothlydrawninto
andmixedwiththeairflow.ThisusuallymeansthosepartsoftheAHUwherethestatic
pressureisnegative.Ideallocationsinclude:
• BeforethesupplyfanwithinjectionthroughthewalloftheAHU.Positioningimmediately
beforethefanandafterthecoilsifpossibleorinthemixedairchamber.
• BehindtheblowerwiththewholeappliancemountedinsidetheAHUinthemixedair
chamber.
• OutsidetheAHUintheSupplyairduct.
BestpracticewheninstallinginanAHUistoplacetheinjectortubeaftertheheatingand
coolingcoils.Ifthisisnotpossible,thePlumeoutputcanpassoverhotwater,steam,chilled
water,andDXcoils.
Opengasflamesshouldabsolutelybeavoided.Ifinstallationmustbeovergasheatedcoilsor
opengasflames,contactProlitecTechnicalSupport.
ThebestlocationfortheApplianceisbelowtheinjectortube(SeeFigure1).Theinjectorhose
shouldberunupwardasshortadistanceaspossibleandNEVERMORETHAN6FEETOR180
CENTIMETERS.Ifanupwardinjectorhoserunisnotpossible,careshouldbetakensupportthe
hosetopreventsaggingoranylowspotintheruntoavoidanypossibilityofcondensationand
liquidcollectionwhichwillblocktheplumeoutput.Theinjectorhoseispronetostretching,so
supportpointsshouldbeplacedevery5to6inchesonhorizontalruns.Givethehoseaslight
upwardslantalongitsrun(SeeFigure2).Thehosemustnotberunhorizontally.Astrongtape
(suchasVenturetape)maybeusedtosupportshortruns.ThehosemayberunthroughPVC
pipeforlongerdistances.

5.Assemblehoseandhoseconnectortogether(seephotobelow).Besuretoleave
approximately1/8ofaninchclearancebetweenthetopofthecartridgehoseconnector
andtheendofthehose.Thensecurewithclamp,ensuringthatthehoseconnectorisstill
freetorotate.

TheinjectortubeisinstalleddirectlyintotheAHUortheductwork.Itsorientationcanbeadjusted
relativetotheairflow.
• Forinstallationsintothenegative/suctionsideoftheAHUfan,orientthetubewiththe
elbowpointedupwards(SeeFigure2),sothatanyplumecondensationwillsipbackin
thetube.
• Forinstallationsafterthesupplyfan,suchasinasupplyduct,itisnecessarytoconfigure
andorienttheInjectorTubetoobtainagoodaspirationoftheoutputintotheair
stream.Theinjectortubeshouldbepointedinthedirectionoftheairflowandinclined
45oupwardapproximately.Turbulenceintheairflowcanpreventevenaspirationofthe
plume.Itisbesttoplacethetubeinastraightsectionofduct,andfarawayfromany
turns,branches,orcross‐sectionchangesaspractical,andnotimmediatelyafterthe
supplyfan.
1.Attheinsertionpoint,drillaholeusinga½”drillbit.
2.InserttheInjectorTubethroughthehole.
3.FindanorientationoftheinjectorTubethatappearstoproduceagooddrawofairinto
theendofthebarb.
4.Fastentheflangeusingthethree#10sheetmetalscrews
5.TurntheAPPLIANCEonandverifythataplumeisproduced.
6.BeforeattachingtheInjectorhosetotheinjector,verifythattheplumecanfloweasily
throughtheinjector.Thiscanbedonebyplacingtheendofthehose½inchawayfrom
theinjectorandverifyingthattheplumeisbeingdrawnin(aflashlightwillmakethe
plumeeasiertosee).Iftheplumedoesnotriseintothehose,adjusttheorientationof
theInjectorTubeuntilaspirationisachieved.
