2.1 Warning information

– Sodium hypochlorite 0.9% (NaOCl)
– Hydrochloric acid 5% (HCI)

2.2 Recommendation for the weeks prior to maintenance
In the weeks leading up to maintenance, preferably fill only as
much salt into the brine tank as you will need in the time prior to
maintenance to keep the level as low as possible.

Depending on the installation version and system updates, the
images in this manual may differ from your installation. There are
various maintenance packages and spare parts packages avail‐
able to match your installation. We urgently recommend updating
the installation to the latest update. The following graphic shows an
overview of the installation versions and updates of the system.

Maintenance must be carried out in this order. If this sequence is
not adhered to, it is your responsibility to ensure that the machine
is in proper working order.
3.1 Check the status and condition of the system prior to maintenance
Complete the inspection list in the check-list. The check-list consti‐
tutes an integral part of the maintenance pack. Contact the supplier
if no check-list has been provided. Read off the production param‐
eters on the screen. Refer to the operating instructions for the
menu structure for all parameters.

3.1.2 Checking the alarm history
Check the alarm history by pressing the

list is displayed. Try to avoid future alarms. Refer to the operating
instructions for an explanation of the alarms.

Follow the instructions on the HMI of the system for a system with
a Siemens control.
3.1.3 Monitoring escaping liquid
Check whether there are any visible liquid leaks on the system. If
there are leaks, record them to eliminate them later.
3.1.4 Monitoring the hydrogen outlet
Check whether the hydrogen pipework to the room is leaking.
Check that there are no obstructions in the lines or outside the
lines. Eliminate the cause if a leak or obstruction is found.
3.1.5 Checking the room ventilation
Check visually and by touch whether the room ventilation system is
blocked.
3.1.6 Is the water test kit still valid?
Check the expiry date to determine whether the water test kit can
still be used.
3.1.7 Measuring cell current
Use a current clamp to measure the cell current. Check whether
the current is 75 ±2 A.

3.1.8 Cell voltage measurement
Use a multimeter to measure the voltage of each individual cell.
The cell voltage must lie between 3.0 and 3.7 V DC per cell. Refer
to the ‘Fault reporting’ chapter in the operating instructions if the
voltage is higher.
3.1.9 Checking the water flow rate
Check whether the product is flowing into the storage tank.
3.1.10 Checking leak detection in the collection pan
Connect the two plugs together: the system must stop pro‐
ducing chlorine. The solenoid valve (water inlet) must close.
Press the float: the system must stop producing chlorine. The
solenoid valve (water inlet) must close.
3.1.11 Does production stop?
Does production stop when the door is opened?
3.1.12 Is production running?
Does production continue even though the door is open?
3.1.13 Stopping production

3.1.14 Checking whether the right salt is being used
Refer to the data sheet.
3.2 Rinsing the system prior to maintenance
1. Use the [START/STOP] button in the main menu to stop the
system.
2. Use the product pump to drain the product tank. Store the
product that comes out of the product tank in a suitable tank.
1. Route the outlet hose of the product pump into the suitable
tank.
2. Turn the rotary switch of the product pump from
“EXTERNAL” to “100%” operating mode to pump the product
out of the product tank.
3. When the product tank is empty, turn the rotary switch of
the product pump back to “EXTERNAL”.

3. Fill the product tank with water:
1. Connect the outlet of the product pump to the drain.
2. Use a hose to connect the sampling valve of the softener
to the product tank and open the orange cover.
3. Open the sampling valve of the softener to start the filling
process.
4. Level: between the lower and upper level switches.
5. Close the sampling valve of the softener.
6. Remove the hose from the product tank
ðThe product tank is now filled with water. It is possible
that the product pump pumps water while filling the
product tank. When the product pump starts pumping the
water, close the softener sampling valve and remove the
hose.
4. Rinsing the brine suction side:
1. Remove both foot valves on the brine tank.
2. Insert both suction hoses into a 10-litre bucket filled with
water and rinse the suction hoses by hand.
3. Clean the filters of both foot valves.
4. Re-assemble the foot valves.
5. Replace both foot valves in the bucket.
6. Turn the rotary switch of the brine pump from
“EXTERNAL” to “100%” to rinse the brine out of the system
for a few minutes.
7. If required, bleed the brine pump.
5. Refill the bucket if you need to.

6. 1. Select “External” on the brine pump.
2. If available, select “External” on the product pump.
3. Call up the Maintenance menu on your control.
Standard control: in the Maintenance menu, press the right
arrow key and select “Rinse”.
Siemens control: in the Maintenance menu, press “Rinse
cells for 10 minutes”.
ðThe cell is now rinsed with water for 10 minutes: no
product is produced and no brine is metered.
7. 1. Turn the rotary switch of the brine pump to STOP.
2. Turn the rotary switch of the product pump to STOP.
8. Switch off the external power supply as soon as cell rinsing
has ended.
ðThe cell(s), lines, sensors etc. are now filled with water
instead of with brine or product.

9. 1. Disconnect the water supply
2. Open and close the sampling valve of the water softener to
bring the system to atmospheric pressure.
3.3 Brine tank and brine pump
1. Check whether the brine tank is leaking. If so, eliminate the
leakage.
2. Check whether salt crusts have formed in the brine tank. You
will need to clean the brine tank if the brine tank is seriously
dirty or if a hard salt layer of ≧ 5 cm has formed on the base,
which is impermeable to water.
3. Remove all crusting and other contaminants.
4. Read the brine pump manual for the correct instructions for
maintenance of the brine pump.
3.4 Softener and water supply
INFORMATION: Read the operating instructions for the water soft‐
ener system, e.g. on the Ehrle manufacturer's website, model:
Clack WS1CI.

1. Replace the water filter.
2. Every 3 years: replace the water inlet valve and make sure
that the arrow on the valve points in the direction of flow.

3. If the water inlet valve is still the “white valve”, then replace it
with a BÜRKERT® valve.

4. Softener maintenance.
Annually: clean the venturi pipe at the top.
Every 3 years:
nReplace the piston spacer ring.
nReplace the O-rings.
nReplace the injector.
nReplace the injector filter mesh.
3.4.1 Maintenance on the softener: Softener head
1. Unlock the click system to remove the plastic cover of the
control unit (see Fig. 6, the component on the left of the
image):
2. Disconnect the plugs.
3. Press the retaining bracket up and remove the control unit
with display.
4. Use the special wrench to loosen the power end cap.
5. Remove the piston downwards out of the softener head.
6. Remove the piston spacer ring from the housing.
7. Use the special wrench to unscrew the injector cover to gain
access to the injector and the injector cap.
8. Use a screwdriver to dismantle the injector.
9. Use a screwdriver to dismantle the injector cap.
3.4.2 Maintenance on the softener: Brine suction
1. Remove the retaining clip.
2. Loosen the brine suction connector.
3. Dismantle the top-up lock from the brine suction connector.
4. Remove the retaining clip of the angle piece.

5. Loosen the angle piece.
6. Remove the retaining bracket of the other angle piece.
7. Use the special wrench to loosen the cap to gain access to
the flow meter.
8. During maintenance, replace the parts from the maintenance
pack. Make sure that all O-rings are slightly lubricated before
fitting them.
9. Replace the injector filter mesh and all O-rings.
10. Dismantle the softener head.
11. Replace the O-rings under the softener head.
12. Re-fit the softener head on the softener.
13. Re-install the injector and injector cap in the housing. Make
sure that you do not confuse the two components.

14. Use the special wrench to secure the injector cap.
15. Refit both angle pieces.
16. Refit the retaining clips of both angle pieces.
17. Re-install all new and cleaned/lubricated parts into the
housing.
18. Use the special wrench to secure the power end cap.
19. Guide the cables through the guides.
20. Fit the bracket of the control unit with display.
21. Securely lock the cables in the guides.
22. Insert both plugs back into the sockets.
23. Replace the plastic cover and make sure that the time and all
settings are correct.
3.5 Product tank
1. Check whether there is a leak and eliminate the leak.
2. Check the cover and the seal of the product tank for damage.
3. Every 3 years: replace the level switch of the product tank.
4. Replace the O-ring in the foot valve annually.
5. Annually: clean the filter in the foot valve.
Every 3 years: replace the complete foot valve.
6. Every 3 years: maintain the product pump in accordance with
the product pump maintenance manual.
7. Ensure that the product metering hose is at atmospheric
pressure.
8. You can remove the product metering pump from the supply
tank to work more easily on the liquid side.
9. Carry out maintenance as per the operating instructions for
the metering pump. Replace the diaphragm, valves etc.

3.6 System cabinet
1. Rectify any leaks if any were found during the initial inspec‐
tion.

2. Replace the filter mat
3. While replacing the filter mat, check that the fan rotates prop‐
erly by manually rotating the fan. Any stuttering, jolting etc. is
a sign that the fan will soon need to be replaced.

4. Replace all seals of the chlorine line. There are different
numbers of seals that need to be replaced on the different
versions. All seals downstream of the cells through which the
product flows must be replaced. For systems from year of
construction 10-2022 onwards refer to the figure:

5. Every 3 years: replace the complete valve. Pay attention to
the direction arrow on the valve.

6. Every 3 years: if the system still has an electric water regu‐
lating valve, replace this water regulating valve every 3 years
by simply disconnecting the hoses (clip system). Pay atten‐
tion to the direction of the flow meter:
The system requires an update if the water regulating valve
is no longer available: 10-2021. This update includes a soft‐
ware update.

7. Replace the flow meter. You can reuse the hose and pipe
couplings. Use PTFE thread sealing tape to tighten the cou‐
plings in the flow meter. Check the arrow of the flow meter
before assembly: the arrow must point in the direction of flow.
8. Replace the entire injector in the brine metering pipe.
9. Depending on the system and the revision status of the
system, the “injector in the water softening line” must also be
replaced.
10. Replace the internal parts of the injector.
Remove the first part to detach the internal parts.
Replace all internal parts of the injector.
11. Replace the internal parts of the injector, except for the
spring. You will need to reuse this spring.

We urgently recommend updating the system with at least
“Update 12-2020”. It is even better to update the system with
update 10-2021.

13. Open both threaded connectors of the flow sensor at the
outlet.
nPay attention to the flow sensor’s measuring cartridge, as
it can fall out.
nA direction arrow is located on the flow sensor. The direc‐
tion arrow must point upwards.
nFundamentally do not use any tools to tighten the 3-part
couplings or hexagonal head screws. It is enough to
tighten them hand-tight.
1 - Loosen the pipework between the cells and the flow
sensor (left part in the image Fig. 12) and remove this
pipework. The temperature sensor must remain in the
line.
2 - Replace all O-rings in the 3-part couplings.
3 - Remove the 2 hexagonal head screws from the sensor,
and replace the 2 flat seals above and below the flow
sensor, see figure Fig. 13.
CAUTION! Pay attention to the flow sensor’s measuring
cartridge, as it can fall out.
Replace the measuring cartridge in the sensor every 3
years.
4 - Replace the 2 hexagonal head screws of the sensor, but
do not yet fit the sensor.
14. Only for systems from 10-2022. Check whether the level
switch is working properly. If not, replace the level switch.
3.7 Control cabinet
1. Check them for corrosion and replace if necessary.
2. Check that all cables are properly connected and secure any
cables that are not properly secured.
3. If fitted: replace the filter mat of the ventilation system.
4. Check that the fan is rotating properly by manually rotating
the fan. Any jamming or snagging is a sign that the fan will
soon need to be replaced.
