HardwareInstallation
Followthedetailedproceduresdescribedinthissectionforeasy
installation oftheQDISA3000 Graphiccardontoyourcomputer
system.Theonlytoolneededforinstallation isascrewdriver.
Note!Beforeinstalling theQDISA3000AGPcard,touchametal
surfaceofyourcomputertodischargeyourselffromstaticcharge,
holdthegraphiccardbytheedgesbesurenottotouchtheIC
chips,leadsorcircuits.
1.Beforeopening thecomputercover,besurethepowerto
thecomputersystemunitandalldevicesconnectedtoit are
turnedoff. Disconnectthecomputerfromthepowersupply.
2.InatypicalPCcomputerall covermountingscrewsare
locatedonthebackofthecomputer.Removethesescrews
andsavethem.Carefullyremovethecover.
3.RemovetheexistingVGAcardordisablethemainboard’sVGA.
4.RemovetheAGPslotshieldatthebackofthecomputerby
removingitsretaining screwandliftingitout.Savethescrew.

5.CarefullyinsertthegraphiccardintotheAGPslotby
holding thecardatthetop and gentlypushingbothends
intotheslotatthesametime.Donotforce thecardinto
theslot!Ifthecarddoesnotfit easily,pull it back,and try
again.
6.Securethecardwiththescrewremovedintheabovestep.
7.Replace andsecurethesystemcover.
8.ConnectaVGAcompatibleormulti-frequencymonitor
withthe15 pinvideoconnectoratthebackoftheQDISA3000
card.
9.Reconnectthecomputertothepowersupply.

BeforeYou Begin
All installation instructionsassumestheCD-ROMdiskislocated
indrive D:and Windows95 isinC:\Windows.Replace either
withtheactuallocationifnecessary.
OperatingSystemRequirements
ForallAGPfeaturebenefits,useWindows95 OSR2.1orthelater
version.Toinstall Windows95 OSR2.1,firstinstall OSR2.0then
upgradetoOSR2.1byinstallingUSBSUPP whichis
providedbyMicrosoft.You cancontactthedistributorof
Windows95OSR2forUSBSUPP supplement.
Installation ofSA3000 DisplayDriversfor
Windows95/98/NT
ThedisplaydriverscanbeautomaticallyinstalledintoWindows
95,Windows98 andWindowsNT4.0.
1. Installing StandardVGADriver
Itisrecommendedthatyoufirstinstall Windows95/98/NTwith
theSA3000 AGPcardalreadyinstalled.Afterthe
installationofWindows95/98/NT,thedefault VGAdrivershould
havebeeninstalledfirst.

If Windows95(OSR2)hasbeeninstalledbeforetheinstallation of
theSA3000AGPcard,thefirsttimeWindows95runswiththe
SA3000,theUpdateDevice DriverWizard
windowappears,clicknext(Donotclick Cancel,oryoursystem
will hang!). Thenclickfinishtoinstall thestandardVGAdriver,
directtheinstallationpathtoyour\windows\systemdirectoryif
Windows95CDisrequested.Followtheprompt,donotrestart
Windows95 thenproceedtostep2.If usingWindows98/NT,this
incidentwillnotoccur.
2. InstallingtheSA3000 driver
Afterinsertingtheauto-run SA3000 driverCDintotheCD
ROMdrive,adialog box popsupasshownon thefollowing
page.YoucanalsorunAutoRun.exefromtheCDdirectlyif
auto-runisnotsupportedbyyoursystem.

Selecting ¡®InstallDisplayDriver’fromthedialog boxwith
yourmouse,thiswillautomaticallyinstalltheSA3000 driver.
Whencompleted,amessagebox popsup,promptingyouto
restartthecomputer.Press OKtorestartthecomputer.

3. InstallingDirectX
Inwindows95,run auto.exefromtheCD-ROMand select¡®Install
DirectX’fromthedialog box,thenfollowthepromptstoinstall
DirectX.

Toreceiveoptimumvisualdisplayandperformance,
configureyourWindows95 driveronce itisinstalled.
Clicktherightmousebutton whilethemouseispointingatan
emptyareaofWindows95desktopandselectPropertiesfrom
DisplayPropertiesWindow,youcanadjustscreenresolution,
colordepth,monitorsetting,refreshrate,etc.
Refertothesectionsbelowforacompletedescriptionofwhat
optionsareavailableforeachconfiguration tab.Aftermaking
yourchanges,followtheon-screenpromptstocompletethe
configuration.

If you wanttochangethe
screenresolutionorcolor
depth,clickon theSettings
tabatthetop ofthescreen.
Thispanelwillnowbe
displayed.Changethescreen
resolution using the‘Desktop
area’sliderontherightside
ofthewindow.Tochangethe
colordepthofthescreenuse
the‘Colorpalette’selector
locatedon theleftsideofthe
window.
If you arenotabletochoose
aresolutionthatyourmonitor
supports,youmayneedto
changeyourmonitorsettings
byclickingtheAdvanced
Propertiesbuttonand
clicking theMonitortab.
ClickChangebuttonfor
MonitorType.Clickthe
ManufacturerandModel
thatmatchesyourmonitor.

If you wanttochangetherefreshrate,clickAdvancedProperties
button intheSettingpanel,clickthedownarrowbutton,choose
thenumberofrefreshrateyouhopetoselectthenclickOKbut-
ton.Ingeneral,thehighertherefreshrate,thebetterthedisplay
quality.Besureyourmonitorcansupporttherefreshratechosen!
If you wanttoviewtheimageorvideoon TV,connectyourTVto
thevideooutconnector(C-videoorS-video)first.ForTV-out
setting,clickonS3TVOut3tabatthetopofDisplayProperties
Window.

TicktheTVBoxinthispaneltoenableTV-out.Clickon the
downarrowsinTV-TypeandTVOutputSignalareatoselect
NTSC/PALandS-Video/C-VideotoconformyourTVstandard
andtheconnection.
ClickAdvancedSettingbutton toadjusttheimageeffectonTV,
clickonTV-Adjustmenttabtoadjusttheimagesizeandposi-
tion.

Configuring WindowsNT4.0Driver
ToconfigureyourWindowsNT4.0driveronce it isinstalled,
followtheprocedureslistedbelow.
1.Rightclickon theWindowsNTdesktopandselect
Properties.
2.FromtheDisplayPropertiesdialogbox,you canchange
yourdriverandmonitorconfigurations.ClickontheSettings
tab,locatedatthetop ofthedialog box,and adjustthesettings
usingthedrop-downboxesand sliderbars.
3.Followtheon-screenpromptsforcompletingWindowsNT4.0
driverormonitorconfiguration.

BIOSUpgrade
Onrareoccasions,itmaybenecessarytoupgradethevideo
BIOSon yourQDISA3000 card.Insuchacase,you will receive
anewBIOSBinaryfileand autilitycalledS3Flash.
FollowthesestepstoupgradeyourvideoBIOS:
Step1.StartyourcomputerfromMS-DOSsystemfloppydisk,
orwhileWindows95isbooting,pressthekey‘F8’
andselect‘CommandPromptOnly’fromthestart
menu.
Step2.If you havereceivedtheBIOSupgradefiles.AtDOS
prompt,createadirectoryinyourharddisk,thencopy
theupgradefilesintothisdirectory.changethe
directorytotheBIOSupgradedirectory.
Step3.AttheDOSprompt,typethefollowingcommandto
install thenewBIOSintotheQDISA3000 card’s
FlashMemory
S3Flashxxx.ROM
xxx.romistheBIOSBINFileyou received.This
willloadtheBIOSimagefileintothecard’sBIOS
space.
Important: DoNOTrebootorpower downthemachineuntil
themessage‘S3VideoBIOShasbeenupdated’isdisplayed,
oritwillcausetheBIOStobeincompletelyprogrammed,
resultinginanon-functioninggraphiccard.
AfterthenewBIOShasbeeninstalled,restartyourmachine
normally.PleasebesuretoHardBootyoursystembyeither
pressing theResetbutton orthePowerbutton.

FCCInformation
Thisequipmenthasbeen tested and found tocomplywiththe limitsfora
ClassBdigitaldevice,pursuanttoPart15oftheFCC Rules.Theselimits
aredesigned toprovidereasonableprotection againstharmful
interferenceinaresidentialinstallation.Thisequipmentgeneratesuses
andcan radiateradiofrequency energyand,ifnotinstalledandusedin
accordancewiththe instructions,maycauseharmfulinterferencetoradio
communications.However,thereisnoguarantee thatinterferencewillnot
occurinaparticularinstallation.If thisequipmentdoescauseharmful
interferencetoradioortelevision reception,whichcan be determined by
turning the equipmentoff and on,the userisencouraged totrytocorrect
the interferencebyone ormoreofthe following measures:
•Reorientthe receiving antenna.
•Increasethe separation between the equipmentand receiver.
•Connectthe equipmentintoan outleton acircuitdifferentfromthatto
whichthe receiverisconnected.
•Consultthedealeroran experienced radio/TVtechnicianforhelp.
ThisdevicecomplieswithPart15 ofFCC Rules.Operation issubjectto
the following twoconditions:(1)Thisdevicemaynotcauseharmful
interferenceand,(2)thisdevicemustacceptanyinterferencereceived,
including interferencethatmaycauseundesired operation.
Noticetouser:Changesormodificationstothisproductnotapproved by
the partyresponsibleforFCC compliancecouldvoidyourauthorityto
operatethisequipment.
Inorderforan installation ofthisproducttomaintaincompliancewiththe
limitsforaClass Bdevice,shielded cablesmustbe used forthe
connection ofanydevicesexternaltothisproduct.
