HardwareInstallation
Followthedetailedproceduresdescribedinthissectionforeasy
installation oftheQDIZX1280 Graphiccardontoyourcomputer
system.Theonlytoolneededforinstallation isascrewdriver.
Note!BeforeinstallingtheQDIZX1280AGPcard,touchametal
surface ofyourcomputertodischargeyourself fromstaticcharge,
holdthegraphiccardbytheedgesbesurenottotouchtheIC
chips,leadsorcircuits.
1.Beforeopening thecomputercover,besurethepowerto
thecomputersystemunitandalldevicesconnectedtoit are
turnedoff. Disconnectthecomputerfromthepowersupply.
2.InatypicalPCcomputerall covermountingscrewsare
locatedonthebackofthecomputer.Removethesescrews
andsavethem.Carefullyremovethecover.
3.RemovetheexistingVGAcardordisablethemainboard’sVGA.
4.RemovetheAGPslotshieldatthebackofthecomputerby
removingitsretaining screwandliftingitout.Savethescrew.

5.CarefullyinsertthegraphiccardintotheAGPslotby
holding thecardatthetop and gentlypushingbothends
intotheslotatthesametime.Donotforce thecardinto
theslot!Ifthecarddoesnotfit easily,pull it back,and try
again.
6.Securethecardwiththescrewremovedintheabovestep.
7.Replace andsecurethesystemcover.
8.ConnectaVGAcompatibleormulti-frequencymonitor
withthe15 pinvideoconnectoratthebackoftheQDIZX1280
card.
9.Reconnectthecomputertothepowersupply.

All installation instructionsassumestheCD-ROMdiskislocated
indrive D:and Windows95 isinC:\Windows.Replace either
withtheactuallocationifnecessary.
OperatingSystemRequirements
ForallAGPfeaturebenefits,useWindows95 OSR2.1orthelater
version.Toinstall Windows95 OSR2.1,firstinstall OSR2.0then
upgradetoOSR2.1byinstallingUSBSUPP whichisprovidedby
Microsoft.You cancontactthedistributorofWindows95OSR2
forUSBSUPP supplement.
Installation ofZX1280 DisplayDriversfor
Windows95/98/NT
ThedisplaydriverscanbeautomaticallyinstalledintoWindows
95,Windows98 andWindowsNT4.0.
1. Installing StandardVGADriver
Itisrecommendedthatyoufirstinstall Windows95/98/NTwith
theZX1280 AGPcardalready installed.Aftertheinstallationof
Windows95/98/NT,thedefault VGAdrivershouldhavebeenin-
stalledfirst.

If Windows95(OSR2)hasbeeninstalledbeforetheinstallation of
theZX1280AGPcard,thefirsttimeWindows95runswiththe
ZX1280,theUpdateDevice DriverWizardwindowappears,
clicknext(DonotclickCancel,oryoursystemwillhang!).
ThenclickfinishtoinstallthestandardVGAdriver,directthe
installationpathtoyour\windows\systemdirectoryifWindows
95CDisrequested.Followtheprompt,do notrestartWindows
95 thenproceedtostep2.IfusingWindows98/NT,thisincident
will notoccur.
2. Installing theZX1280 driver
Afterinsertingtheauto-runZX1280driverCDintotheCD
ROMdrive,adialog box popsupasshownon thefollowing
page.YoucanalsorunAutoRun.exefromtheCDdirectlyif
auto-runisnotsupportedbyyoursystem.

Selecting ¡®InstallDisplayDriver’fromthedialog boxwith
yourmouse,thiswill automaticallyinstalltheZX1280driver.
Whencompleted,amessagebox popsup,promptingyouto
restartthecomputer.Press OKtorestartthecomputer.

3. InstallingDirectX
Inwindows95/98,run AutoRun.exefromtheCD-ROMand
select¡®InstallDirectX’fromthedialogbox,thenfollowthe
promptstoinstall DirectX.
