The shipment contains an LCIF with three media cassettes
If any items are missing or damaged, contact your shipping
company or your local vendor.

With two or more
people, lift the
LCIF using the top
carrying grips.
Place the LCIF on
a level surface.
WARNING!
Do not open any panel or cover secured with screws
except when instructed in the user manual. The inside of the LCIF
contains high-voltage points, and there is a risk of electrical shock.

Open the media
cassettes and
remove the
spacers:
Cardboard
Foam (label-
ed “C” )
Taped-on
plastic spacer
Remove the
media cassettes.
Remove the tall
cardboardspacers
inside the LCIF.
Reinsert all the
cassettes.
Press down all
caster stoppers to
lock the LCIF
wheels.
WARNING!
Always lock the stoppers. If the stoppers are not locked, the printer may move unexpectedly and cause personal injury.

WARNING!
The printer weighs about 150 lbs (68 kg). Don’t lift it by yourself. To avoid hand injury, be careful when placing the printer onto the large-
capacity input feeder.

»Note:
Leave the media cassette inside the printer when performing this. The printer and LCIF are flush on the front and sides (the back will protrude).

Caution:
Do not tilt the printer more than 10° from
horizontal. Tilting could cause damage from
spilling of consumables. Make sure the LCIF
cables do not get caught under the printer.
Turn the printer off
and unplug the
power cord.
Locate the guide
pins.
Have four people
lift the printer
using the carrying
grips on the front,
left side, and back
of the printer.
Using the guide
pins to align the
printer and LCIF,
lower the printer
onto the LCIF.
2Remove the LCIF
upper media
cassette.
Secure the two
screws.
Push the media
cassette back into
the LCIF.
3Press the
recessed area on
the back cover of
the printer.
Pull forward to
remove the small
plastic cover.
Firmly plug the
connectors of the
LCIF cables flush
with the printer.
»Note:
If the
connectorsare
not firmly
connected, an
error will
result.
4Gather the cables
to the left.
Press the metal
cover on the LCIF
and hold it up until
the next step is
completed.
Start inserting the
small plastic cover
as high up as
possible so it
catches and
secures the metal
plate.
Push the plastic
cover until it clicks
into place flush
with the printer.
»Note:
In compliance with UL guidelines, “The appliance inlet is considered to be the main disconnect device.”
Plug the power cord into a grounded AC outlet and turn on the printer to print a startup page.
»Note:
The “Paper Source” section should indicate that the media tray setting contains the LCIF.

Printer Driver Sample—Microsoft Windows 95/98 Use one of the following methods to set up the printer driver.
Microsoft Windows 95/98 (QMS-Supplied Driver):
On the Settings tab, select the Optional Input Bin in the Available Options list and choose Add. Then on the
Paper tab, choose the appropriate optional cassette in the Source drop-down list box.
Microsoft Windows 95/98 PPDs (QMS-Supplied PPDs):
From the Device Options tab, use the Installable Options list to select Optional Inputbins. Then at Change
Setting for: select Installed.
Microsoft Windows 3.1, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (QMS-Supplied Driver):
On the Paper tab, select the appropriate optional cassette in the Source drop-down list box.
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (QMS-Supplied Driver):
In the Paper/Output/Paper Source branch, select the appropriate optional cassette.
Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 (QMS-Supplied PPDs):
From the Advanced tab, select Paper Source, then select Optional1.
Macintosh (QMS-Supplied PPDs):
From the Chooser, click the Setup button then click the Configure button. Set the LCIF popup menu to Install
and click OK.

1Pull the media
cassette out.
Grasp the
cassette with both
hands and pull
outward while
lifting up at
the front.

The
oversized and
transparency/
label media
cassettes can
only be
installed in the
upper bin.
2Holding the
optional cassette
with both hands,
set it into the
grooves inside
the printer.
Press the cassette
all the way into the
printer.

1Turn off the printer.
Open the front
cover.
Pull out the
manual feed unit
(including the
multipurpose tray).
Loosen the two
screws on the
printer’s right-side
cover.
Open the cover by
swinging it back
and removing it.
Caution:
Protect the
printer from
electrostatic
damage by
using an
antistatic
wrist band.
2Hold the SIMM by
its edges and with
the notch on the
bottom.
Install additional
memory from right
to left.
After pressing the
memoryfirmly into
its slot, push it to
the left to lock it in
place.
Align the tabs
on the cover to
replace it.
Tighten the two
screws.
Press the manual
feed unit firmly
into the printer.
Close the printer’s
front cover and
turn on the printer.
