TheTRU-BalancePowerReclineisauniqueseatingsystemdesignedspecifically
forthePridePowerChair.Itisfullyadjustabletomeettheindividualneedsofthe
user,anditismountedtoaPridepowerbasetoprovidemaximummaneuverability.
Reusablehookandloopfastenersare includedinyourowner’spackageforusein
attachingthe seatcushion to the seat base.These fastenersare notintended for
useoncushionswithanti-skidmaterial,as they maydamagetheseatcushion.

Usethis diagram to familiarize yourself with thefunction andlocation of each
componentbeforeusingtheTRU-BalancePowerRecline.
PRECAUTIONARYGUIDELINES
Beforeoperating the TRU-BalancePower Recline, please read the following.
Theseguidelinesareprovidedforyourbenefitandwillaidyouinthesafeoperation
oftheseatingsystem.
!Turnoffthepowerbefore you areseatedin theseatingsystem.
!Alwayshaveassistancewhenyouarebeingseatedintheseating system.
!Followalloftheproceduresandheedthewarningsasexplainedinyourpower
chairowner’smanual.
WARNING! Your Quantum Rehab Specialist configured your
TRU-Balance Seating System to suit your specific
requirements. Do not change the original configuration
without first contacting your Quantum Rehab Specialist.
WARNING! Should the fittings on your TRU-Balance Seating
System become loose, report the problem immediately to
your Quantum Rehab Specialist.
WARNING! Your TRU-Balance Seating System is not approved
for use as a seat in any vehicle. Use the seats and occupant
restraints provided by the manufacturer of the vehicle.
WARNING! Do not exceed the weight capacity listed in your
power chair owner’s manual or 300 lbs. (136 kg), whichever
is less.
WARNING! Traveling to the full recline position could create
a pinch point. Keep all body parts away from the lower back
cane brackets when reclining.
Failure to heed the above warnings can result in personal injury and/or
equipmentdamage.

Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference (EMI/RFI)
WARNING! Laboratory tests have shown that electromagnetic
and radio frequency waves can have an adverse affect on
the performance of electrically-powered mobility vehicles.
ElectromagneticandRadioFrequencyInterferencecancomefromsourcessuchas
cellularphones,mobiletwo-wayradios(suchaswalkie-talkies),radiostations,TV
stations,amateurradio(HAM)transmitters,wirelesscomputerlinks,microwavesig-
nals,pagingtransmitters,andmedium-rangemobiletransceiversusedbyemergency
vehicles.Insomecases,thesewavescancauseunintendedmovementordamageto
thecontrolsystem.Everyelectrically-poweredmobilityvehiclehasanimmunity(or
resistance)toEMI.Thehighertheimmunitylevel,thegreatertheprotectionagainst
EMI.Thisproducthasbeentestedandhaspassedatanimmunitylevelof20V/m.
WARNING! Be aware that cell phones, two-way radios,
laptops, and other types of radio transmitters may cause
unintended movement of your electrically-powered mobility
vehicle due to EMI. Exercise caution when using any of these
items while operating your mobility vehicle and avoid coming
into close proximity of radio and TV stations.
WARNING! The addition of accessories or components to
the electrically-powered mobility vehicle can increase the
susceptibility of the vehicle to EMI. Do not modify your power
chair in any way not authorized by Pride.
WARNING! The electrically-powered mobility vehicle itself
can disturb the performance of other electrical devices
located nearby, such as alarm systems.
NOTE: For further information on EMI/RFI, go to the Resource Center on
www.pridemobility.com. If unintended motion or brake release occurs, turn
your power chair off as soon as it is safe to do so. Call Pride at 800-424-8205
to report the incident.

4-WAY TOGGLE CONTROLS (OPTIONAL)
Allows the user to control the recline, tilt, seat elevator, and articulating leg rest
actuators (if so equipped).

TheSynergyTRU-BalancePowerReclinecanbeoperatedthroughthePGRemote
Plusjoystick, aspecialty controller,theAttendantControl Module, or a toggle
(seefigure4,5,and6). There areinhibitsonyourSynergySeatingSystemwhich
will not allow you to drive your power chair or operate certain options when
reclinedor elevated. See figure2.
WARNING! Check the immediate area before operating the
recline features. Keep clear prior to and during movement.
Failure to heed can result in personal injury and/or equipment
damage.
NOTE: This manual will discuss toggle, joystick, and Attendant Control
Module operations only. If your Synergy Seating System is equipped with
a different operating device, please refer to the operation manual sup-
plied with that device and/or your power chair owner’s manual.

Attendant Control Module
YourSynergyTRU-BalancePowerReclineisequippedwithanAttendantControl
Module(see figure 7). Theactuators can beadjusted eitherbythe userthrough
the controller or the toggle, or by an attendant through theAttendant Control
Module. Anyactionmade throughtheAttendantControlModule will override
toggleactions made by the user. To adjust any ofthe actuators,press Select to
cycleuntiltheactuatortobeadjustedisilluminatedontheactuatorindicator(see
figure8), thenpress the up arrow toincrease thelift ortilt or the down arrowto
decreasetheliftortilt.

2. Press Select until the actuator on the back is illuminated on the actuator

!Leg Rest Function (Optional)
1. Press the power key to power on the module.
2. PressSelect untilthe desiredleg rest actuatoris illuminatedon theactuator

thedegreeofelevation.
3. To return the leg rest to a lowered position, press Select until the desired

on the actuator indicator on the module. Use the up and down arrows to
increase or decrease the degree of tilt.
3. To return to a sitting position or to a 0°tilt position, press Select until the
actuatorsin both theback andseat are illuminatedon theactuator indicator
on the module, and then press the down arrow until the seat is in a sitting
position.
!Independent/Combined Leg Rest Function (Optional)
1. Press the power key to power on the module.
2. Press Select to cycle through the left, right, and combined leg rests until
the desired leg rest actuator is illuminated on the actuator indicator on
themodule. Usethe up anddown arrowsto increaseor decrease thedegree
ofelevation.

Joystick Operation
1. Press the On/Off key to power on the chair and the controller.
2. Press the Mode key twice to select actuator adjustment mode.
3. Pushthejoysticktotherighttocyclethroughtheavailablemotorfunctionsuntil
theseatbacklightisilluminatedontheactuatorindicator.Seefigure8.
4. Push the joystick forward to raise the seatback or backward to recline the
seatback.
5. Press the Mode key again to return to the drive mode.

Thepower seatelevatorprovides liftof upto7 in.(18 cm)fromthe powerbase
usingasinglepostplateandactuator.Seefigure9.Themaximumweightcapacity
ofthe powerseat elevator is300 lbs.(136 kg)and is availableon somemodels.
ContactyourQuantumRehabSpecialistfor specific information.Thepowerseat
elevatoroperatesthroughthepower chair controller, toggle switch,orAttendant
ControlModule.
NOTE: When the seat is elevated, a 1/4-speed drive inhibit is engaged and
you are no longer able to tilt the seat. See figure 2.
NOTE: Operation instructions using the joystick 4-way toggles are dis-
cussed below. If you are using a different toggle, the Attendant Control
Module, or a different operating device, please refer to the appropriate
section of this manual or the operation manual supplied with that device
and/or your power chair owner’s manual.
To operate the powerseat elevator:
1. Pushthetoggle switchtothe left toelevatethe seat.
2. Push the toggle switch to the left, release, then push to the left again to
lower the seat.

Thehigh-pivotpowerelevatinglegrestsutilizeahighpivotpointtomore closely
mimicthemotionofthekneeduringlegrestelevation Theycanbeadjustedeitheras
apairorindividually.Seefigure10.Thehigh-pivotpowerelevatinglegrestsprovide
70°ofmovement,havestandardswing-awaycalfpadsthatareheightadjustable,
acceptallfootplates,and have amaximumweightcapacityof 300 lbs.(136kg).
Theyareavailablewithallpowerbasesthatsupportupgradedelectronicsandthat
areavailablewithSynergySeatingSystems.Thehigh-pivotpowerelevating leg
restsoperatethroughthepowerchaircontrollerortoggleswitch.
NOTE: Operation instructions using the joystick 4-way toggles are dis-
cussed below. If you are using a different toggle, the Attendant Control

POWER ARTICULATING LEG RESTS OPTION
Thepowerarticulatinglegrestsmaintainthecorrectknee-to-heel measurements
when the user’s legs are being elevated and can be adjusted either as a pair or
individually. See figure 11.Thepowerarticulatinglegrestsprovide70°or80°of
movement,havestandardswing-awaycalfpadsthataredepthandheightadjustable,
acceptallfootplates,and have amaximumweightcapacityof 300 lbs.(136kg).
They are available with all power bases that support upgraded electronics and
thatareavailablewithSynergySeatingSystems.Thepowerarticulatinglegrests
operatethrough thepower chair controller, toggleswitch, orAttendant Control
Module.
NOTE: Operation instructions using the 4-way toggles are discussed be-
low. If you are using a different toggle, the Attendant Control Module, or
a different operating device, please refer to the appropriate section of this
manual or the operation manual supplied with that device and/or your
power chair owner’s manual.
NOTE: For information on operating individual power articulating leg
rests, please refer to the appropriate section of this manual that refers to
the controller you are using, or contact your Quantum Rehab Specialist.
To operate the combined leg rests:

SWING-AWAYPOWERARTICULATINGLEG RESTSOPTION
Theswing-awaypowerarticulatinglegrestsareoperatedthesamewayandhave
the same features as the power articulating leg rests but have an added swing-
away feature which enables you to rotate the leg rests to the side before you
transferonto or offofyour powerchair.
To rotatetheswing-awaypower articulatinglegrests:
1. Pushin the releaselever.Seefigure 12.
2. Rotatethe leg rest.

To changethecontroller position:
1. Turnoffthepowerto thecontroller.
2. Unplug the controller connector from the power base. Refer to the power
baseowner’smanual.
3. Removeanywire ties securingthecontrollercableto the armrest.
4. Loosenthemountingscrewsinthe controller mounting block. See figure13.
5. Movethe controller mountingblock andcontroller to theother armrest and
tightenthemountingscrews.
6. Route the controller cable to the back of the power base and reconnect the
controller.Seefigure14.
To change thecontroller extension:
1. Turnoffthepower to thecontroller.
2. Loosenthesetscrews inthecontrollermountingblock.See figure 13.
3. Slidethecontroller intoorout of thearmrestto the desiredposition.
4. Tightenthesetscrewstosecure the controller.
