HBA1224
Handbrake Alarm.
FUNCTION
The HBA1224 alarm is used in a 12V or 24V automotive system. It monitors the handbra e switch
and the doorframe switch* to provide audible and visual warning if the door is opened while
the handbra e is not applied. Once the alarm starts, it stays latched on until the handbra e is
applied (even if the door is closed again). The HBA1224 improves vehicle safety as it:
• Reduces the ris of the vehicle being accidentally left un-attended without the
handbra e on.
• If used with external relay/horn, it can provide a warning to anyone in the general
area, that a vehicle has been left without it’s handbra e on.
*The doorframe switch is the switch mounted in the doorframe that switches on the cab light
when the door is opened.
FEATURES
• Compact size (50x30x25mm), with mounting tabs that can be drilled for screw
mounting.
• Internal audible warning (piezo buzzer).
• Internal visual warning (red LED).
• Ground output (0.5A max) for an optional external buzzer or relay, E.g. to sound the
vehicle horn.
• All alarms (visual, internal audible & external output) latch on until the handbra e is
applied.
• Options for ground or positive doorframe switch inputs.
• Options for ground or positive handbra e switch inputs.

CONNECTIONS
The HBA1224 is wired as shown opposite. Two options are shown as a guide, depending on
how the vehicle handbra e switch is wired. If the vehicle has a positive door switch for the
dome light, the wire must be cut and a diode must be added as per diagram on right (to
prevent false alarms from the manual dome switch). This diode must be rated to supply
dome light(s). All un-used wires should be taped over.
PRECAUTIONS
• Care must be ta en to avoid overloading the outputs. The output to the external
alarm is rated at 0.5A max. In ground switched applications, the outputs for the
dome light(s) and the dashboard light are 2A max. If higher currents are required,
suitably rated relays must be added.
• The HBA1224 relies on the switches operated by the handbra e and the door. These
switches should be regularly chec ed to ensure they operate correctly.
• The HBA1224 is a reminder only; it does not monitor how hard the handbra e is
applied. The operator must ensure the handbra e is operated sufficiently to maintain
vehicle safety.
