in this manual.

Please consider that damages caused by manual modifications to the device are not subject to warranty.
Neverlet thepower-cord comeinto contact withother cables!Handle thepower-cord and allconnections withthe
mains with particular caution!
Make sure that the available voltage is not higher than stated on the rear panel.
Always plug in the power plug least. Make sure that the power-switch is set to OFF-position before you connect
the device to the mains.The power-plug has to be accessable after installing the device.
Make sure that the power-cord is never crimped or damaged by sharp edges. Check the device and the power-
cord from time to time.
Alwaysdisconnect fromthe mains,when thedevice isnot inuse orbefore cleaningit. Onlyhandle thepower-cord
by the plug. Never pull out the plug by tugging the power-cord.
This device falls under protection class I.Therefore it is essential to connect the yellow/green conductor to earth.
The electric connection, repairs and servicing must be carried out by a qualified employee.
Do not connect this device to a dimmer pack.
Do not switch the fixture on and off in short intervals as this would reduce the lamp’s life.
During the initial start-up some smoke or smell may arise.This is a normal process and does not necessarily
mean that the device is defective.
Donot touch the device’s housing barehands duringits operation (housingbecomes hot)!
For replacement use lamps and fuses of same type and rating only.

2.Operating determinations
This device is a moving-head spot for creating decorative effects and was designed for indoor use only.
If the device has been exposed to drastic temperature fluctuation (e.g.after transportation), do not switch it on
immediately.Thearising condensationwater might damage yourdevice.Leavethe deviceswitched offuntilithas
reachedroomtemperature.
Never run the device without lamp!
Do not shake the device.Avoid brute force when installing or operating the device.
Never lift the fixture by holding it at the projector-head, as the mechanics may be damaged. Always hold the
fixture at the transport handles.
Whenchoosing the installation-spot, pleasemake sure that the deviceis not exposed to extreme heat, moisture
or dust.There should not be any cables lying around.You endanger your own and the safety of others!
The minimum distance between light-output and the illuminated surface must be more than 1 meter.
Make sure that the area below the installation place is blocked when rigging, derigging or servicing the fixture.
Always fix the fixture with an appropriate safety-rope.Fix the safety-rope at the correct holes only.
Onlyoperate the fixtureafter having checked that the housing isfirmly closed andall screws are tightlyfastened.
The lamp must never be ignited if the objective-lens or any housing-cover is open, as discharge lamps may
explose and emit a high ultraviolet radiation, which may cause burns.
Themaximum ambient temperature ta = 45° C mustnever be exceeded. Otherwise,the lamp is switchedoff and
the fixture is out of operation for 5 minutes.
CAUTION!

sothat itsfunction is impaired,e. g.due to cracksor deepscratches!
Operate the device only after having familiarized with its functions. Do not permit operation by persons not
qualifiedfor operating the device.Most damages are theresult of unprofessional operation!

Please use the original packaging if the device is to be transported.
Please consider that unauthorized modifications on the device are forbidden due to safety reasons!
If this device will be operated in any way different to the one described in this manual, the product may suffer
damages and the guarantee becomes void. Furthermore, any other operation may lead to dangers like short-
circuit, burns, electric shock, burns due to ultraviolet radiation, lamp explosion, crash etc.

4. Installation
4.1Fitting the lamp
DANGER!
Installthe lampswith the deviceswitchedoff only.
Unplugfrom mainsbefore !
To insert the lamp MSD 250 or MSD 250/2 open the top cover of the head (see the drawings to identify which
cover is top) by loosening the 4 Phillips screws on the front and rear sides of the top cover.Then open the
small lamp cover by loosening 3 fastening screws (see the drawing).If changing the lamp, remove the old lamp
from the socket.Insert the lamp to the socket.Do not install a lamp with a higher wattage! A lamp like this
generates temperatures the device is not designed for.Damages caused by non-observance are not subject to
warranty.Pleasefollow the lamp manufacturer‘s notes!Do not touch the glass-bulb bare hand during the
installation! Make sure that the lamp is installed tightly into the lampholder system.
Adjusttheoptimaldistance1-1.5 mmfromthelensby turning
thescrew"A"(seethedrawings"Lampadjustment"below).
Then close the small lamp cover by tighten 3 fastening
screwsagain.
Reclose the top cover of the head and tighten the 4 Phillips
screws
Beforestrikingthelamp, resetthe"LAti"and"LASt" counter
s in the menu of the Control Board, by pressing the "Up"
and "Down" buttons in one time and then confirming with
theEnter-button.

4.2 Lamp adjustment
Correct Incorrect
The SPOT 250 XT lampholder is aligned at the factory.Due to differences between lamps, fine adjustment may
improvelight performance.
Strike the lamp and focus the light on a flat surface (wall). As the optimum distance of lamp from lens was
adjusted during the installing or changing the lamp (by turning the screw "A"), it is necessary to adjust only the
second position by turning the screw "B", in order to center the hot-spot (the brightest part of the beam).
If the hot- spot seems to be too bright, you can lower its intensity by moving the lamp closer to the reflector. Do
so by turning srew "A" until the light is evenly distributed.
Ifthe light onthe edge seemsto be brighter as inthe center, the lamp istoo close atthe reflector.In thiscase, you
need to move the lamp away from the reflector until the light is evenly distributed and the beam appears bright
enough.
4.3 Installation of an optional lens
The device is delivered with a 15°-standard lens. If you wish to insert an optional 12° or 18°-lens (it is not the
standard part of delivery), please follow the instructions below:
Optional 12°-lens:
Remove the fixation-ring of the 15°-lens with an appropriate tool. Remove the lens. Install the optional 12°-lens
and fix it with the fixation-ring.
Keep optimum distance to lens
Optimum distance 1 - 1,5mm

Optional 18°-lens:
Unscrew the knurled-head screw on the plate of the light-output. Install the optional 18°-lens and fix it with the
knurled-headscrew.
4.4 Inserting/Exchanging gobos
DANGER!
Installthe goboswith the deviceswitchedoff only.
Unplugfrommainsbefore!
To insert the gobos open the top cover of the head by loosening the 4 Phillips screws on the front and rear sides
of the top cover.
Ifyou wishto use otherforms and patternsas the standard-gobos,or ifgobos are tobe exchanged, pleasefollow
theinstructions below:
Rotating gobo-wheel:
CAUTION!
Neverunscrew thescrews ofthe rotatinggobo
asthe ballbearing willotherwise beopened!
Remove the fixation-ring with an appropriate tool.Remove the gobo and insert the new gobo.Press the fixation-
ring together and insert it in the front of the gobo.

4.5 Rigging the fixture
Dangerof fire !
Wheninstalling thedevice, makesure thereis nohighly inflammable
material(decoration articles,etc.) inbetween a distanceof min. 0,5m.
Warning ! Use 2 clampsto rig thefixture on the truss.
Followthe instructionsmentionedat thebottom ofthebase.
Makesure that thedevice isfixedproperly! Ensurethat
thestructure (truss) towhich you areattaching the fixturesis secure.
The installation of the projector has to be built and constructed in a way that it can hold 10 times the weight for 1
hourwithout anyharming deformation.
The installation must always be secured with a secondary safety attachment, e.g.an appropriate catch net.This
secondary safety attachment must be constructed in a way that no part of the installation can fall down if the
main attachment fails.
Whenrigging, derigging orservicing the fixture stayingin the areabelow the installation place,on bridges, under
highworking placesand other endangeredareas isforbidden.
Themoving-head can be placed directlyon the stage floor orrigged in any orientation on a truss without altering
itsoperation characteristics (see thedrawing).
You canfix the Spot250 XT ona truss via 2Omega holders orusing the mountingplate(it is notthe standard part
of delivery) or screw the clamps directly to the 2 holes (5) in the base.
For overhead use, always install a safety-rope that can hold at least 10 times the weight of the fixture.You must
only use safety-ropes with screw-on carabines.Pull the safety-rope through the two apertures on the bottom of
the base and over the trussing system etc.Insert the end in the carabine and tighten the fixation screw.
Fixation via Omega holders
1.Bolt each clamp (1) to the omega holder (4) with M12 bolt and lock nut through the hole in the holder.
2.Fasten the omegaholders on the bottomof the base byinsertingboth quick-lockfasteners(3) into theholes of
the base and tighten fully clockwise.
3.Fasten the safety-rope (2) through the two apertures on the bottom of the base and over the trussing system.

Fixation via a mounting plate
1. Screw 2 clamps (1) to the mounting plate (4) with M12 bolts and lock nuts through the holes in the
mounting plate (4).
2.Insert the 4 quick-lock fasteners (3) into the holes on the bottom of the base and tighten fully clockwise.
3.Fasten the safety-rope (2) through the two apertures on the bottom of the base and over the trussing system.

4.6 Changing the power supply settings
Both the transformer and the ballast must be connected correctly for the local AC voltage and frequency.
Thewrong settings can causepoor performance or demage ofthe moving head.The factory settings are printed
next to the power switch.
Verifythe powersupplysettings beforeapplyingpower!
If you want to change the power supply settings,follow the instructions:
1.Disconnect the fixture from AC power.
2.Remove the top base cover (closest to the power cord) by loosening the 6 screws.
3.Move the wire 1 on the transformer connection block to the position according to the desired voltage.
4.Move the wires 2 and 3 on the ballast connection block to the position according to the desired frequency
(voltage).
5.Closethe base beforeapplying ACpower.

4.7 Connection to the mains
Connect the fixture to the mains with the enclosed power cable and plug.
The earth has to be connected!

4.8 DMX-512 connection/connection between fixtures
Thewiresmustnotcomeinto contactwith eachother,otherwise
thefixtures will not workat all,or willnot workproperly.
Only use a stereo shielded cable and 3-pin XLR-plugs and connectors in order to connect the controller with the
fixture or one fixture with another.
Occupation of the XLR-connection:

If youare using thestandard DMX-controllers, you canconnect theDMX-output of thecontroller directlywith the
DMX-input of the first fixture in the DMX-chain. If you wish to connect DMX-controllers with other XLR-outputs,
youneed to useadapter-cables.
Building a serial DMX-chain:
Connect the DMX-output of the first fixture in the DMX-chain with the DMX-input of the next fixture. Always
connect one output with the input of the next fixture until all fixtures are connected.
Caution: At the last fixture, the DMX-cable has to be terminated with a terminator. Solder a 120 Wresistor
between Signal (–) and Signal (+) into a 3-pin XLR-plug and plug it in the DMX-output of the last fixture.

6. Controller mode
The fixtures are individually addressed (001-497) on a data link and connected to the controller.The fixtures
respond to the DMX signal from the controller.
6.1 DMX addressing
Thecontrol panel on thefront panel of the fixture allows you to assign theDMX fixture address, whichis defined
as the first channel from which the SPOT 250 XT will respond to the controller.
If you set, for example, the address to channel 5, the SPOT 250 XT will use the channel 5 to 20 for control.
Please,be sure that youdon’thaveanyoverlappingchannels inorder to controleach SPOT 250 XTcorrectlyand
independently from any other fixture on the DMX data link.
If two, three or more SPOT 250 XT are addressed similarly, they will work similarly.
Foraddress setting, please referto the instructions under"Addressing"(menu "A001").
Controlling:
After having addressed all SPOT 250 XT , you may now start operating these via your lighting controller.
Note:After switching on, the SPOT 250 XT will automatically detect whether DMX 512 data is received or not.If
there is no data received at the DMX-input, the display will start to flash "A001" with actually set address.
This situation can occur if:
- the 3 PIN XLR plug (cable with DMX signal from controller) is not connected with the input of the SPOT 250 XT
- the controller is switched off or defective, the cable or connector is defective or the signal wires are swap in the
inputconnector.
Note:It’s necessary to insert the XLR termination plug (with 120 Ohm) to the last fixture in the link in order to
ensure proper transmission on the DMX data link.
6.2 Remotely controllable functions
Lamp
The SPOT 250 XT is to be operated with a MSD/HSD 250 or MSD 250/2 GY-9,5 lamp.
Arelayinside of the SPOT 250 XTallowsyouto switchon andoff the lampvia the control panel or viayourDMX-
controller without affecting the rest of the lighting.
To switch On/Off the lamp, please refer to "Switching On/Off the lamp " (menu "LAMP").
Note: It is also important to note, that the discharge lamp is cold restrike types, that means, that they have to be
cold before re-striking. For this reason, you have to wait 5 minutes (max. speed of fan must be adjusted) after
having switched Off the lamp before you can switch it back On again. If you try to switch On the lamp within 5
minutesafter havingswitcheditOff,the SPOT250 XTwill store thisinformation andautomatically ignite thelamp
whenthe5 minutesperiodhas expired.Themessage "HEAt" will appearon thecontrolpanel displayof theSPOT
250 XT. If the ignition of the lamp is seven times unsuccessful, on the display will appear "LA.Er", meaning that
the lamp could be damaged or even missed, or there could be a failure on the ignitor or ballast.
Colour wheel
TheSPOT250XT featuresa colour-wheel with 12colour positions - 11of these with dichroiccolors and the last
one open.The wheel can be positioned between two adjacent colors in any position.It is also possible to rotate
the color-wheel continuously at different speeds - the so-called "Rainbow effect“ is created.
Rotating gobo wheel
The rotating gobo-wheel includes 4 metal gobos, 1 glass gobo and 1 multicolour dichroic gobo rotating in both
directions, indexable, rotating gobo wheel cont. rotation slow to fast.The multicolour dichroic gobo (containing
C,M,Ycolors) canbe combined withthe color-wheelespecially with cyan,magenta and yellowcolours inorder to
obtainseveraldifferentmulticolourbeams.

3-facet prism rotating in both directions at different speeds.

Focus
Motorized focus enables the beam to be focused anywhere on stage.
Dimmer/Shutter/Strobe
Smooth 0 - 100 % dimming is provided by the combined mechanical dimmer/shutter unit.This unit may also be
used for strobe effect (1 - 10 flashes per second)
Fans
The SPOT 250 XT is cooled by three axial fans - two in the projector head and one in the base.The speed of the
fans (and of course the noise) can be continuously reduced if very quiet performance is required.
By the control panel using the "FAnS" function you can choose 5 types of the fan speed operating modes.
7. Stand - alone mode
The fixtures on a data link are not connected to the controller but can execute pre-set programs which can be
different for every fixture.To set the program to be played,see the "Stand-alone setting" ( menu "St.AL.").
"Stand-alone operation" can be applied to the single fixture (the fixture may be set to the master /slave mode or
controller mode ) or to multiple fixtures operating synchronously.
Synchronous operation of multiple fixtures requires that they must be connected on a data link and one of them
is set as a master (master mode) and the rest as the slaves (slave mode).The slaves are assigned to SLA1-
SLA9 and on the certain slave address can be connected only one fixture.To set the fixture as the master or
slave , see the "Addressing" (menu "A001").
If the master fixture runs a reset,switches On/Off the lamp or plays test(program) ,all slaves will execute
these acts too (e.g. if the master fixture has switched the lamp off,no slaves can switch the lamp on)!
You can't play or edit any programs on the slaves by their control panels if the master is switched on and
connected to the master/slave chain.
The master fixture starts simultaneous program start in the other slave fixtures.All fixtures have a definite,
synchronizedstarting pointwhen playingbacktheir programs.Thenumber of runningprogram isthe same in all
slaves and depends on the master's choice (menu "St.AL." ).Every fixture runs its program repeatedly ,starting
the program step No.1 when requested by the master .
Forexample:
If the slave fixture has a shorter program length, it will continously repeat its program until the master fixture
finishes its own program and restarts its program running (slave 1- prog.step 3 will not be finished).
If the slave fixture has a longer program length, it will restart at prog.step 1 before it completes all its prog.steps
(slave 2 - prog.step 5 will not be played)- see the picture bellow.
Note:Disconectthe fixtures fromthe DMXcontroller beforemaster/slave operating ,otherwisedata collisionscan
occur and the fixtures will not work properly!
It’s necessary to insert the XLR termination plug (with 120 Ohm) into the input of the master fixture and into the
output of the last slave fixture in the data link in order to ensure proper transmission on the data link.
From the master's control panel is possible to control any slave in a master/slave chain.

8. Functions of the control panel
The control panel situated on the front side of the base offers several features.You can simply set the DMX
address,master/slave mode, read the number of lamp or unit hours, switch On and Off the lamp, run test, make
a reset and also use many functions for setting and service purposes.
The main menu of the control panel is accessed by pressing the [Mode] button - press this one so many times
untilthedisplay showsmessage "A001" (withactually storedaddress). Browsethroughthe menuby thepressing
[Up] or[Down] buttons- the displayshowsstep bystep thesemessages:A001,SLCt,InFO,PErS,LAMP,tESt,
StAL,rESE, SPEC.Press [Enter] if you wish to select one of them.The functions are described in the following
sections and the function hierarchy is shown below.
8.1 Addressing
By this menu you can set the DMX address or address the fixture as a master/slave.
DMX addressing
1.Pressthe [Mode]-buttonso manytimesuntil thedisplayshows message"A001" (withactually storedaddress).
2. Press [Enter]-button anduse the [Up] and [down] buttons to select"dM.Ad."-menu.
3.Press[Enter]-button(the letter "A" flashes) and by[Up] and [down] buttons select required address(001 -
497), press [Enter]-button to confirm.
4.Select "M.ASL."-menu,press[Enter]-button anduse [Up] and[down] buttons toselect "d.AbL."(nomaster or
slave),press [Enter] to confirm.

Master/slave adressing

3. Press[Enter]-button(display flashes) and select"MASt"(to set the fixture as the master in a chain of multiple
fixtures) or "SLA.1"-"SLA.9"(to set thefixture to bethe slave ina chain ofmultiple fixtures) and press[Enter]

to confirm. If you want address no master or slave, select "d.AbL.".
4.Press the [Mode]- button.Choosen address is shown on the display.
If message "MASt." fast flashes-DMX signal is received at the DMX-input- disconnect DMX controller!
Only one fixture may be the master. Up to the 9 slaves may be connected to the master and on the certain
address can be connected only one slave fixture (SLA1-SLA9).
Note:Disconectthe fixtures fromthe DMXcontroller beforemaster/slave operating ,otherwisedata collisionscan
occur and the fixtures will not work properly!
If the fixture is set as the master and DMX signal is connected to its input,the error massage "MAEr" will appear
onits display and the fixture's address will be set to its DMX address inorder to respond to DMX signal from the
controller.
Forexample:
The master fixture has these address setting:"dM.Ad."-menu.........A017
"MA.SL."-menu........MASt (is displayed)
8.2 Slave control
This function allows you to control the slaves from the master's control panel in a master/slave operation.
Selectthisfunction fromthemain menuandpress [Enter]-button.Browse thelistof allconnectedslaves ("SL.C.1"
- "SL.C.9") by pressing [Up] or [Down] button.Select the desired slave and press [Enter]-button.The slave's
control panel is available from the master's control panel.
If no slave is connected to the master,massages "SL.C.1","SL.C.2","SL.C3"..."SL.C.9" still round repeat.
Note:This function is available from the master fixture only.
8.3 Fixture informations
The menu allows you to read an useful information about the fixture as the lamp life,head temperature,software
version, etc.
Press[Up] and [Down] buttons to selectthe desired option andpress [Enter] to seethe value or nextsubmenu.
Power On time
-By this option you can read the total number of the operation hours since the
SPOT 250 XT has been fabricated.Press [Enter] or [Mode] to return to the menu.

-The number of the hours that the SPOT 250 XT has been powered On since the
counter was last reset.Press [Enter] or[Mode] to return tothe menu.In order toreset
this counter to0, you haveto hold the [Up] and[Down]-button andpress the [Enter]-
button.
Lamp On time
-This option enables you to read the total number of the operation hours with the lamp
on since the SPOT 250 XT has been fabricated.Press [Enter] or [Mode] to return
to the menu.
-The number of hours that the lamp has been powered On since the counter waslast
reset.Press [Enter] or[Mode] to returnto the menu. Inorder to reset this counter to 0,
youhave to holdthe [Up] and [Down]-button and pressthe [Enter]-button.
Lamp strikes
- By this option you can read the total number of the lamp strikes since the SPOT
250XT has been fabricated.Press [Enter] or [Mode] to return to the menu.
-The number of the lamp strikes since the counter was last reset.Press [Enter] or
[Mode] to return to the menu. In order to reset the counter to 0, you have to hold the
[Up] and[Down]-button andpress the [Enter]-button.
Max. fixture head temperature
- By this option you can read the max. temperature of the head inside since the
SPOT 250 XT has been fabricated.Press [Enter] or [Mode] to return to the menu.
-Max. temperature ofthe head insidesince the counter was last reset.Press[Enter] or
[Mode] to return to the menu. In order to reset the counter to 0, you have to hold the
[Up] and[Down]-button andpress the [Enter]-button.
Current fixture head temperature
Temperaturereadouts ofthe head insidein Celsius.Insidetemperaturesbelow70°C are not critical. 70° C and
more lead to the lamp being switched off. Please note that the outside temperature should not exceed 45° C.
DMX values
Readout DMXvalues ofeach channel receivedby the fixture. Usethe [Up] and[Down] buttons to selectdesired
channel and press [Enter] to read its value coming to the fixture or [Mode] to cancel and return to the menu.

Software version
By this function you can read the software version of the display module. Press [Enter] to read its value or
[Mode] to return to the menu.
8.4 Personality options
These options allowyou to modify SPOT 250 XT operatingbehavior.
Press [Up] and [Down] buttons to select the desired option and press [Enter] to set the value or to see next
submenu.
Pan reverse
This functionallowsyouto invert thepan movement.Use the [Up] and [Down] buttons toselect "On"ifyou wish
this feature or "Off" if you don’t wish this feature and press [Enter] to confirm or [Mode] to cancel and return to
the menu.
Tilt reverse
This function allows you to invert the tilt movement.Use the [Up] and [Down] buttons to select "On" if you wish
thisfeature or "Off" if you don’t wishthis feature and press [Enter] to confirm or [Mode] to canceland return to
the menu.
Movement resolution
By this function you can adjust the 16-bit movement resolution (Mod.1, Mod. 2) or 8-bit resolution (8bit).
Use the [Up] or [Down] keys to select the desired movement resolution and press [Enter] to confirm or [Mode]
to cancel and return to the menu.
