GRAPHIC
EQUALIZER
INTRODUCTION
The ROLLS REQ313 graphic equalizer is intended for room equalizing or sound
shaping and the approximate frequency response curve can be seen graphically
by the settings of the frequency controls.Recording and broadcasting studios,
sound contractors and musicians will appreciate the low noise, straightforward
design, and versatile signal control of the REQ series.
INSPECTION
1.Unpack and inspect the REQ313 box and package.
If obvious physical damage is noticed, contact the carrier immediately to make a
damage claim. We suggest saving the shipping carton and packing materials for
safely transporting the unit in the future.
2.Please complete theWarranty Registration Card and return it to the factory.

DESCRIPTION
FRONT PANEL
Power Switch:To turn the REQ313 on or off, press the upper or
lower portion of this button.
NOTE: ALWAYS TURN THE EQUALIZER ON BEFORE THE
POWER AMPLIFIER IS TURNED ON, AND TURN THE EQUAL-
IZER OFF AFTER THE POWER AMPLIFER IS TURNED OFF.
Filter Level Controls; Each of these sliders control the output level
of each of the 31 bandpass filters. Center detent position is
grounded for guaranteed flat response.
Filter Range Switch & Indicators:The gain range of the filter sliders
is switchable (as a group) from +/-6dB to +/-12dB. At 6dB the
green LED will light, at 12dB the yellow LED will light.
Bypass Switch & Indicator:When the red LED is lit, the equalizer
circuitry is bypassed.Use this switch to compare equalized and
unequalized material, or to bypass the EQ in the event of power
loss.
Overload Indicator:This LED lights if any section of the EQ circuitry
is within 3dB of clipping. Occasional blinking of this LED is accept-
able.
Low-Cut Frequency Control:This control determines the roll-off
frequency of the High-Pass Filter. This roll-off frequency can be
adjusted from 10Hz to 250Hz.
High-Cut Frequency Control:This control determines the roll-off
frequency of the Low-Pass Filer. This roll-off frequency can be
adjusted from 3kHz to 40kHz.
REAR PANEL
The rear panel contains the XLR and 1/4” input and output jacks.
Connect the power cable to a properly grounded AC outlet.
Fuse Holder: This receptacle contains an AC primary fuse. Always
replace this fuse with the same type and rating of fuse.If the fuse is
blowing out consistantly after each replacement, the unit is in need
of service.

OPERATION AND APPLICATIONS
The REQ equalizers are useful signal processing tools where
precise frequency control is needed across the audio spectrum.
When used with an analyzer, the REQ units may be used to tune an
acoustical environment to avoid ringing (feedback), increase clarity,
and flatten the overall frequency response. Insert the graphic equal-
izer between the signal source and the power amplifier or cross-
over.Adjust the level and equalization as required to yield the
desired system response. The Low Cut and High Cut filters are
used to band-limit the frequency response to increase clarity and
reduce noise.
The equalization filters in the REQ313 are constant bandwidth
(constant Q).The bandwidth of each individual filter is guaranteed
to be narrow enough to prevent unwarranted interaction between
filters, yet wide enough to produce exactly the type of correction
curve demanded by even the most unusual acoustic surroundings.
INSTALLATION
Your REQ313 may be installed in a standard 19” rack or placed in
any dry, well ventilated area. The 1/4” connectors are balanced with
the tip being positive (+) and the ring negative (-), or will assume an
unbalanced state with unbalanced (TS) connectors. The XLR con-
nectors are pin 2 positive (+).
