Please follow the guidelines and instructions contained within this manual to
ensure safe and reliable operation of your product.
ALWAYS beware of any objects or limbs which may fall behind the pillow lift.
Although the motor has no pull action to prevent any crushing hazard, it may
still be possible to trap objects in the assembly due to the weight of the user.

1 Introduction
Thank you for purchasing your Roma Medical Pillow Lift.
Your Pillow Lift has been designed to give many years of trouble free service. If
however you should experience any problems with this product then please
contact your local dealer, or Roma Medical direct on (01656) 674488.
2 Application
The Roma Medical Pillow Lift is designed to fit most standard divan beds, from
single to kingsize. However there may be some types of bed or accessories that are
not suitable for use with this product, water beds and electric blankets being
obvious examples. If you are in any doubt about the suitability of this product
please seek out the advice of a healthcare professional.
The device should not be left in an operational state where the user / patient
requires constant supervision as this may result in unintended movement. Remove
the security key to prevent unauthorised use.
3 Product Description
The Roma Medical Pillow Lift is manufactured from high quality plastic coated ERW
steel tube.
A 24-volt linear actuator operated through a transformer, powers the Pillow Lift.
This greatly reduces the possibility of electrocution from the mains 240volts supply.
Two PP3 (9v) batteries provide emergency battery supply that will enable up to 3
emergency operations of your Pillow Lift. It is recommended however that the
batteries should be changed after 1 operation or every six months. These batteries
are available commercially from retail outlets.
The handset is touch button operated and has an indicator light to show the unit is
operating.
The maximum safe working load of the Pillow Lift is 255kgs (40st) do not exceed
this figure.
Unlike many other similar products your Pillow Lift is fitted with an actuator that is
powered in one direction only, this is a safety feature that prevents the possibility of
a crushing incident when operating in the closing mode.

4 Installation Instructions
This product is built to withstand heavy loads and its total weight is 15kgs. When
removing from its carton it is advisable to lay the carton flat and slide the Pillow Lift
out avoiding the necessity to lift the product above waist height.

In the event of there being any damage or shortages then please contact your
supplier immediately.
To fit your Pillow Lift to the bed it is advisable to make as much room around the
bed as possible.
1. Remove the top covers of the bed– quilt etc.
2. Connect the emergency battery leads to the batteries.
3. Slide the controller onto the motor and connect the handset and motor.
4. Position the pillow lift at the head of the bed with the back of the frame against
the headboard or supporting wall. (The bed should have a wall or headboard to
provide support against any horizontal movement during operation).
5. Plug the transformer into a nearby mains socket and test the Pillow Lift operates
correctly.
6. DO NOT overstretch cables or place them where furniture maybe moved over, or
persons could trip.
7. DO NOT route cables where they could become pinched or trapped.
8. Persons requiring special attention or children should be supervised when using
the Pillow Lift.

5 Operating Instructions
Holding the handset with the flex nearest to you press the button marked and
the backrest will rise. When the desired position is reached release the button.
Pressing the button marked and the backrest will lower. When the desired
position is reached release the button.
6 Maintenance
Your Pillow Lift needs only the minimum of maintenance. The frame should be
checked regularly ensuring all fixings are in place. Occasionally clean the frame with
a non-abrasive cleaner and wash the straps if they are soiled using any proprietary
washing powder. Allow the straps to dry naturally.
Change the batteries every 6 months even if it they have not been used.
Check monthly that all the electrical cables are undamaged.
7 Safety Feature
The pillow lift handset is fitted with a security key which enables the unit to be
disabled when not in use to prevent any unauthorised use. The key ring at the top
of the handset can be gently pulled out to remove the security key. Once removed,
the pillow lift will not operate. Take care not to force the key when inserting as it
can only be re-fitted in one way.

Guarantee
Your Pillow Lift comes with a 2 Year back to base guarantee from date of purchase.
This guarantee covers faulty workmanship or sub standard materials and does not
affect your statutory rights.
The guarantee is not transferable.
If a defect or fault arises, the dealer from where the product was purchased should
be notified immediately.
Important: during the guarantee period the electrical components must not be
opened or tampered with as this will invalidate the guarantee.
