3. Installation and Wiring
This chapter provides steps for installing the AuraSys L-2 and L-2K devices. It
also includes a Quick Guide for fast reference as well as a reference section for
wiring the system.
3.1 Installation Quick Guide
There are a number of steps to installing the unit:
Step Action Section
Preparing the Installation Environment 3.2.1
Preparing the Wiring 3.2.2
Mounting the Control Panel 3.2.3
Wiring the L-2 System 4
3.2 Installation Prerequisites
Unit installation is limited to the control panel. Installation instructions for
additional communication modules are included in appendices in this manual.
For information on installing the various detectors, please refer to the
individual manuals supplied with the detector.
3.2.1 Preparing the Installation Environment
Establish the control panel location using the following guidelines:
Locate the control panel in a place where the temperature is within the
specified limits for operation.
When distributing wiring, avoid putting the system wires close to house
wiring to reduce capacitive coupling of noise.
Locate the control panel in the center of the premises to avoid long runs
to any one location.
Install the panel 130 cm +/- 10 cm from the floor. Make sure to leave 15
cm all around the control panel for ventilation and/or wiring entry. The
panel should be installed at eye level to ease in making connections or
repairs.
3.2.2 Preparing the Wiring
The control panel provides 12 VDC up to 1 Ampere for PGM add-ons and
sensors. The maximum wire length between the panel and accessories
depends on the amount of current drawn by the accessory and the gauge of
the conductors (wires) used.

3.2.3 Mounting the Control Panel
The L-2 control panel family comes in two enclosed versions:
L-2 – Plastic enclosure with 2-state key switch
L-2K – Plastic enclosure with 6-button arming keypad
Follow the below instruction to mount the L-2 control panel family.
To mount the L-2 and L-2K panel:
1. Using a Philips head screwdriver, unscrew the enclosure screws and open
the L-2/2K enclosure.
2. Use the mounting template as shown in Figure 3 to drill holes in the wall.
3. Insert masonry anchors into the drilled holes.
4. Remove the PCB from the enclosure by gently pressing the PCB clasps to
release the PCB from the enclosure.
5. Use a flat head screwdriver to gently remove the plastic knockouts of both
the wiring hole and screw placement.
The bottom left mounting location is required for the back tamper protection,
and is the only hole without a knockout.
6. Thread the wires through the wiring hole and wire the unit as explained
ahead in Chapter 4.
7. Secure the L-2/2K panel to the wall using the supplied mounting screws.
The tamper screw is different from the mounting screws. The mounting screws
are pan head screws while the tamper screw is a unique flat head screw.
8. Place the PCB back into the back case of the enclosure; ensure that the
claps are holding the PCB in place.
9. Close and secure the enclosure using a Philips head screwdriver.

4.2 Wiring the System
General connections from the PCB in the control panel to other panel
components are shown in the wiring diagram in Figure 4.
4.2.1 AC/DC Wiring
The preferable power input for the system is via an AC adaptor; however, you
have the option to connect the system to a DC power supply as well. Wire the
AC/DC power supply to the Volt IN terminal blocks (VIN + and -) located on
the PCB. Refer to Figure 4 to locate the appropriate connectors.
The AC range is between 14-18 VAC, limited up to 1.2 A. Refer to Chapter 2
for detailed electrical characteristics of the transformer.
4.2.2 Battery Connection
To connect the battery to the panel:
1. Place the battery in the battery housing within the enclosure.
2. Connect the battery’s plug to the dedicated battery power jack on the
PCB.
Figure 5: Battery Connection Diagram
See Chapter 2 for detailed battery related information.
RISK OF FIRE, EXPLOSION AND BURNING
•If replaced by incorrect battery type
•Do not disassemble, expose to excessive heat or incinerate.
•
Dispose used batteries in appropriate container.
4.2.3 Telephone Wiring
See Figure 6 for the telephone wiring diagram to the control panel. It is
important to connect the control panel to a good ground, to prevent false
ringing.

Figure 6: Telephone Diagram
In the United States, do not connect directly to the phone line; instead use
Rosslare’s MD-31 RJ-31X jack to connect to a phone line, as explained in
Appendix A.
4.2.4 PGM Connection
The onboard PGM output is an open-collector output with a 120 mA drive
capability. The output can be connected to the AUX+, as shown in Figure 7 or
to an external power supply.
Figure 7: PGM Wiring Diagram
4.2.5 Smoke Detector Connections
Smoke detectors that have a 2-wire input are wired exactly like zones.
To support four-wire smoke detectors, the PGM output must be used as a
reset trigger (see Figure 8).
For smoke detectors with internal reset mechanism the PGM output is used for
power supervision purposes (see Figure 9).
For 4-wire fire/smoke detectors, use the following settings:
•Zone input type Single N.O.
•Attached PGM PGM 1
•Zone Functional Type 24-Hour Fire 4-Wires
•
PGM Activation Trigger Fire Detector Control
