Conguration
The DIP switch settings are only read during unit start-up and
specify different unit settings.
Input 6, 7, and 8 may be used
for special purposes (see
settings above). If used for
special purposes the respective
input cannot trigger any sound
messages.
After the initial boot up, VA4-SD reads the DIP-switch to set up the
main mode of the unit. All internal settings and parameters are stored
into the internal ash memor y.
1 - 3:
Input mode
000 = Decimal inputs (one oor per pin).
001 = Reserved.
010 = Binary inputs (oor 0-31).
011 = Special Binary 127 (oor 0-127)
100 = Gray code inputs (oor 0-31).
101 = Reserved.
110 = Reserved.
111 = Res er ve d.
4:
Inputs active 0 = Active High.
1 = Active Low.
5:
Input trigger 0 = Plays message upon oor change.
1 = Input 8 used for trigger.
6:
Repeat message 0 = Off
1 = On
7 & 8:
Music mode 00 = No music, completely disabled.
01 = Music enabled.
10 = Music enabled, input 7 reduces the volume.
11 = Music enabled, input 7 reduces the volume,
input 6 switches the volume on and off.

Conguration
(one oor / message - per pin)
Decimal Each input triggers a message stored on SD card folder 1..8.
NOTE:
• If input trigger (DIP switch 5, trigger on input8) is ON, the
message in the selected folder is played. If it is used, there will be 7
remaining inputs to assign and use.
• If DIP switch 6 is ON, the messages are repeated as long the input
is activated.
• NOTE: DIP switch 7 and 8 control the music mode, input 6 and
7 may be used for special purpose and cannot be used as oor
announcer/xed message.
Binary inputs and
Gray code
Special Binary
127
Inputs 1 to 5 are for the binary and gray code bits. Up to 5 bits are
supported. The inputs 6,7 and 8 may also be used for special purpose
(see DIP switch settings). Where no special purpose is selected, these
inputs can be used to trigger a xed message.
Where no special function is selected for inputs, 6, 7 and 8, these
inputs can be used to trigger messages placed in folder
“\MESSAGES\1\”, “\MESSAGES\2\” or “\MESSAGES\3\”.
Depending on the settings for the DIP-switch, it is possible to have up
to 127 individual folder (1-127 oors enabled, 0 is used as idle state).
If separate input trigger (DIP switch 5, trigger on input 8) is ON, the
message in the selected folder is played together with the
“\ARRIVAL\UP\” or “\ARRIVAL\DOWN\” folder when input 8 is
activated. If DIP switch is OFF, the trigger (ARRIVAL) is generated
automatically when binary inputs change state.
If DIP switch 6 is ON (repeat), the xed messages are repeated as
long the input is activated, but the trigger/arrival is only played
once.
In this mode inputs 1 to 7 is used for binary code. Only input 8 is used
for special purpose, depending on DIP switch settings.
• Standard and music mode 00 and 01
Input 8 used as “Message 1”.
• DIP switch 7 and 8, music mode 10
Input 8 reduces the volume.
• DIP switch 7 and 8, music mode 11
Input 8 mutes the music (turns music of f).
• DIP switch 5, input trigger 1
Input 8 is used as input trigger.
Note: Input trigger has the highest priority.

Music DIP switch 7 and 8 set the music mode, giving in total 4 different
modes.
1. (00) No music
2. (01) Music on
3. (10) Music on with reduction by input 7.
4. (11) Music on with reduction by input 7, and mute by input 6.
In modes 3, and 4, the background music is played while no other
message is played. All the xed messages, arrival sounds and
oor announcements will interrupt (fade out) the music. Af ter the
interrupting message is nished, the music will play again.
In modes 3 and 4, input 7 is used for reducing music level (whenever
music is played), and cannot be used as oor announcer/xed
message.
In mode 4, input 6 is additional used as mute input. When input is
activated the current music sequence mute 100%, when deactivated
the next music le is played.
NOTE: In the music folder multiple music les can be placed, and
will be played in sequence. The current playing music le will be
remembered, and if interrupted by either mute or power failure, the
next music le will be played.
The binary coded decimal (BCD) 10 stage switch is used to set the
loudspeaker level. Both voice announcer (messages) and the music
level can be set by this switch.
NOTE:
• Stage 1 is lowest volume, stage 9 is highest volume. Stage 0 is used
for special purpose (future feature).
• If input 6 is used for “night music” or reduced music level, the level
will be approximately half of the level set by the audio level switch
(BCD switch).
