followed including the following:
1. Read all instructions.
2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs. Do not touch areas
around opening and vents that may become hot.
3. To protect against electrical hazards, do not immerse cord or plugs in water
or other liquid.
4. Do not allow children to operate this appliance. Close supervision is
necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
5. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool
before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
6. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the
appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return
appliance to Salton for examination, repair or adjustment. See Warranty.
7. The use of accessories or attachments not recommended by Salton may

8. DO NOT use outdoors.
9. DO NOT let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
10. DO NOT place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
11. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot
liquids or hot oil. Hot oil is very dangerous and can cause serious burns.
12. Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To
disconnect, turn any control to ‘OFF’, then remove plug from wall outlet.
13. This appliance is for Household Use Only. DO NOT use appliance for other

17. Only use the Control Plate Assembly/Heater Tube in the Removable Fry Bowl

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY
SAFETY RELEASE POWER CORD
A short supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards of becoming entangled in
or tripping over a long cord. The cord should be arranged so that it will not
drape over the counter top or table top, where it can be pulled on by children or
tripped over spilling hot oil. Do not allow the cord to run underneath or to be
wrapped around the appliance as this may impair the function of the magnetic
safety release.
The Safety Release power cord attaches to the appliance with a magnetic
connector. This magnetic connector will detach from the appliance if the cord is
pulled on accidentally. DO NOT USE THIS APPLIANCE WITH AN EXTENSION CORD.
The magnetic end fits into the socket of the fryer in only one direction. Always
attach the magnetic end of the cord directly to the fryer socket prior to plugging
into a wall outlet. When disconnecting, always remove the plug from the wall
outlet first.
If the magnetic power cord becomes damaged in any way, contact Salton
Canada at the address listed at the back of this booklet for a replacement. DO
NOT attempt to permanently attach the power cord to this appliance. DO NOT
use any other power cord on this appliance.
POLARIZED PLUG
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To
reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one
way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does
not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.

HOW TO USE
1. Once the Fryer has been assembled (do not include the basket), add the
cooking oil between the MIN (2.8 L/Q) and MAX (3.2 L/Q) oil levels
indicated on the Heater Tube. IMPORTANT: Never heat the Fryer without oil.
2. Attach the Magnetic Cord to the Fryer then plug into the wall outlet. (If
the Magnetic Cord is positioned upside down, it will not attach.)
3. Press the On/Off Switch at the back of the Fryer to the On Position (1) and
the Power Indicator Light will turn on. It will stay on until the switch is
either pressed to the off position (0), the plug is disconnected from the
appliance or the plug is removed from the
wall outlet.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The magnetic cord is
designed to detach easily from the fryer in case
a child accidentally pulls on the cord. If it is
bumped or touched during use, it could
accidentally detach during operation.
4. Most deep frying is done at 190°C /375°F, the MAX marking on the
Temperature Control Dial. When the selected temperature has been
reached, the Ready Light will go out.
NOTE: The Ready Light will cycle on and off as the selected temperature is
maintained.
5. Place food into the Frying Basket. The Basket will hold approximately
1.2 kg (2.6 lbs) of food. DO NOT fill the Basket above the top edge.
6. Slide the Basket Tongue into the hole in the Base. Holding the
Basket slightly forward so the Basket stops in the ‘draining’ position,
above the oil.
7. Place the Cover on the Fryer. Then tilt the basket back towards yourself to
release the Basket from the ‘draining’ position and lower it gently into the
oil.

8. Once the food is cooked, raise the Basket to the ‘Drain’ position before
removing the Cover. Turn the Temperature Control to the MIN position and
press the On/Off Switch to the Off position (‘0’). Unplug the power cord from
the wall outlet. Lift the Cover by the Handle and remove the Cover.
IMPORTANT: To avoid escaping steam, always open the Cover away from you.
NOTE: DO NOT allow food to remain in the Basket in the drain position
over the hot steam for an extended period of time. Food will lose its crispness.

HELPFUL HINTS
• Use only good quality cooking oil that is suitable for deep frying. The oil
should have a high smoke point. These include Peanut, Canola, Cotton
Seed and Vegetable oils.
• The oil must be filtered regularly and changed after 8 to 10 uses. If the
oil is dirty it can overheat at a much lower temperature. This can cause
the oil to catch fire.
NOTE: If oil has been used for cooking seafood, it should be discarded.
• Prepare the food to be cooked by cutting into uniform size pieces so they
will cook evenly.
• Adding wet food to cooking oil will cause oil to splatter or foam. Always
pat food dry before cooking. Remove excess water, ice or frost from
food. Shake frozen foods over a sink or paper towels to detach pieces
of ice.
• Fill the basket before placing it in the deep fryer.
• When cooking French Fries, cook for 1 minute then lift the basket to the
draining position for 1 minute to allow the oil to recover to its initial
temperature. After one minute, lower the basket back into the oil and
continue frying until done.
• The magnetic cord is designed to detach easily from the fryer in case a
child accidentally pulls on the cord. As a result, if the cord is bumped or
touched during use it could accidentally detach during operation. If the
cord is touched, check to be sure that the Power Indicator Light is on. If
the light is off, remove the plug from the wall outlet, reconnect the cord
to the fryer then plug back into the wall outlet.

CARE AND CLEANING
1. Unplug cord from wall outlet. Allow oil to cool. NOTE: Oil retains its
temperature for a long time after use and could take 2 – 3 hours. Do
not attempt to empty the Fryer until the oil has cooled completely. Do
not move or carry the Fryer while it is still hot.
2. Once oil has cooled remove the Control Plate Assembly and place on
paper towels. IMPORTANT: Never immerse the Control Plate Assembly in
water. Wipe the Control Plate Assembly with a damp cloth or paper
towels. Dry thoroughly.
3. Remove the Fry Bowl and use the Pouring Spout to pour the oil into an
airtight container. If the oil is to be reused, strain the oil through a coffee
filter into the container. Seal the container and store in a cool dark place.
4. The Basket, Fry Bowl, Base and Cover can be washed in warm soapy
water or in the dishwasher. NOTE: The Basket should be placed on the
top rack of the dishwasher only.
5. When all parts are completely dry, reassemble the Fryer and store in a dry
location.
NOTE:
• DO NOT IMMERSE CONTROL PLATE ASSEMBLY/HEATER TUBE, CORD OR
PLUG IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.
• DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL OR ABRASIVE CLEANERS ON ANY PART OF
YOUR APPLIANCE.
