BEFORE FIRST USE
1. Remove all packing materials.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Remove the Styrofoam located under the
Cooking Pot.
2. Wash all removable parts in warm soapy water, including the Cooking
Pot, Fry Basket and Handle, Steaming Rack and Fondue Forks.
Rinse and dry thoroughly. NEVER IMMERSE THE HOUSING/BASE
IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID. WIPE WITH A DAMP CLOTH.
NOTE: When using the appliance for the rst time you may notice a
slight odour due to the burning off of manufacturing oils and residue.
This is completely normal and will disappear after the rst few uses.
Assembling the Basket Handle
Ensure that the handle of the Frying Basket has been correctly attached.
1. Place the Handle so that it is upside down inside of the Fryer Basket
with the wire ends pointing to the Fry Basket Handle Bracket (on the
top inside of the Basket)
2. Press the ends of the wire handle together at the free end of the
handle. Insert the ends into the two small wire holes inside the
basket. (DO NOT insert the wire ends of the Handle through the
Bracket at the top edge of the Frying Basket)
3. Once the Handle is inserted into the holes, ip the Handle up so that
it locks into position over the Fry Basket Handle Bracket at the top of
the Frying Basket. This locks the Handle onto the Basket (the Handle
should now be right side up). Pick up the Basket and gently shake it
so you can be sure that the Handle is locked in position before frying.
HOW TO USE
1. Insert the Cooking Pot so that the Cooking Pot Prongs t into the
holes in the metal plate at the bottom of the Housing. The 3 Prong
section ts at the back of the Housing. NOTE: Ensure that you have
removed the Styrofoam underneath the Cooking Pot.
2. With the Control Dial in the OFF position, attach the magnetic end of
the power cord to the unit and plug the into the wall outlet.
3. Only use wooden or heat proof plastic utensils to prevent damage
to the Cooking Pot’s non-stick surface. Use metal utensils when
Shallow Frying being careful not to touch the non-stick coating.

Boil (200-225°F)
Sauté (300° - 350°F)
Roast (350°F)
Steam (200-225°F)
Stir Fry (400°F)
Shallow Fry (375°F)
NOTE: this is only a guide and the temperature should be adjusted
depending on food temperature, size, etc.
5. When cooking is nished turn the Control Dial to the OFF position and
unplug the appliance from the wall outlet.
6. Allow the appliance to cool completely before cleaning.
Keep Warm
This appliance is perfect for entertaining. The Cooking Pot can hold up
to 5 litres/quarts of food.
1. Turn the Control Dial to 175°F and place the glass lid on the unit.
2. When the indicator light goes out, add hot food to be kept warm.
3. Stir contents occasionally to keep the temperature consistent.
Slow Cook
1. Turn the Control Dial to approximately 185°F if you want to cook your
food all day. This temperature is the typical low setting on a slow
cooker.
Turn the Control Dial to 225°F to cook food approximately 4 hours.
This temperature is typical to the high setting on a slow cooker.
2. Place food and liquid in the Cooking Pot. To retain heat and moisture
during the cooking process, do not lift the Cover.
NOTE:
- Always allow plenty of time for cooking.
- Cut excess fat from meat before cooking. Brown meat to add
additional avour before slow cooking.
Salton_MC1353_InstructionBooklet_E.indd 6Salton_MC1353_InstructionBooklet_E.indd 6 13-05-22 1:34 PM13-05-22 1:34 PM

7
- Some vegetables, such as carrots, turnips and celery take longer to
cook than some meats. Check your recipe before slow cooking.
- Products that are branded as ‘light’ and seafood, sh rice and pasta
cook quickly. They should be added toward the end of the cooking
time.
- Keep in mind that many things affect the cooking time, including the
temperature of the food when placed in the cooker, size of the food,
etc. Take this into consideration when you are planning your recipe.
Fondue
This appliance is perfect for Cheese Fondue. Do not make chocolate
fondue as the lowest temperature is too high for chocolate.
1. Turn the Control Dial to 200°F or to the temperature in your fondue
recipe.
Boil
1. Fill the Cooking Pot 2/3 full with water. Cover.
2. Turn the Control Dial to 400°F until water starts to boil.
3. Depending on the type of food you are cooking either add directly into
the boiling water or place in the Basket and then into the water. Water
should cover the food at all times.
4. When water comes to a boil again turn to between 200°F & 225°F.
Turn down lower if necessary so water does not boil over.
Steam
1. Place 2 cups (500ml) of water in the Cooking Pot.
2. Place the Steaming Rack on the Cooking Pot so that the Steaming
Rack is lower than the top edge of the Cooking Pot and is
approximately 1” (2.5cm) above the water.
3. Place food on the rack.
4. Place Cover on Cooker.
5. Turn the Control Dial to 400°F until the water starts to boil. Turn
down, if necessary to a minimum of 212°F so water continues to boil
and create steam.

Sauté
1. Always pat meat dry with a paper towel before you sauté, to avoid
splatter.
2. Turn the temperature dial to 300-350°F.
3. Add a few tablespoons of oil to the cooking pot, depending on the
amount of food to sauté. Heat the oil.
4. Once the oil is hot, add food.
5. Do not completely ll the base of the Cooking Pot. This will reduce
the temperature too quickly and will not sauté properly. Cook in
batches to keep the correct temperature.
Roast
1. Food can be browned rst before roasting to add avour. Follow the
instructions in the Sautéing section above.
2. Fill the Cooking Pot with your ingredients.
3. Turn the Control Dial to your desired temperature, 350°F or above.
4. Follow the directions in your recipe.
Stir Fry
1. Prepare the food so it is ready to cook.
2. Turn the Control Dial to 400°F.
3. Add approximately 2 – 3 tablespoons (30 – 45ml) of oil to the Cooking
Pot. Never use butter or margarine as the smoking temperature is too
low. A good quality peanut of vegetable oil is preferable.
4. Allow the oil to heat.
5. If your recipe includes meat, cook this rst. Stir with a wooden spoon
or spatula when cooking. When cooked, remove to a warmed plate.
6. Add vegetables and cook until the desired doneness.
NOTE: Add vegetables that take longer to cook rst, then add
remaining ingredients.
7. Add meat back to the cooking pot.
8. Follow your recipe for sauces, etc.
Salton_MC1353_InstructionBooklet_E.indd 8Salton_MC1353_InstructionBooklet_E.indd 8 13-05-22 1:34 PM13-05-22 1:34 PM

Shallow Fry
1. Add a good quality peanut, soya or other high quality vegetable oil to
the Cooking Pot. IMPORTANT: DO NOT EXCEED THE “OIL MAX”
FILL LINE INSIDE THE COOKING POT.
2. Turn the Control Dial to 375°F.
3. Place the Cover on the Base.
4. Preheat the oil until the red indicator light goes out. Remove the Cover.
5. Assemble the Fry Basket. (See the Section “Assembling the Basket
Handle”)
6. Place food in the Fry Basket. Food must be immersed in the oil. DO
NOT exceed one layer of food for best results.
7. When food is cooked hook the Basket onto the side of the Cooking
Pot to allow food to drain for a few seconds. NOTE: If it is left too
long, it will lose its crispness.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
•DO NOT EXCEED THE “OIL MAX” FILL LINE INSIDE THE
COOKING POT.
• DO NOT mix different types of oil.
• When frying, oil may take the avour of foods that are being fried. Fry
foods with stronger avours, such as sh, last.
• Fry foods of similar sizes at one time to prevent some of the food from
being under or over cooked.
• When frying potato based foods, cut then wash in cold water to remove
the starch. This will prevent them from sticking when frying. Dry food
thoroughly.
• Multi-Cooker needs to be completely cool before removing oil and
cleaning.
• Oil can be reused providing that it is properly strained through a
cheesecloth or strainer. Place in a container with a tightly sealed lid
and place where it is not exposed to light. Oil can also be refrigerated.
• Oil must be changed after 10 batches. If frying seafood it must
be discarded. NOTE: If oil is dirty it can overheat at a much lower
temperature.
• Replace oil if it changes colour, smells rancid, smokes when heated or
starts to foam.
